Tanner, I just want to say that your videos and cheerfulness have brought such joy to my life recently. I am a COVID RN, and throughout this dark time I needed to find a hobby that worked for me. I decided to splurge on a cricut, and I am so thankful I did. After a shift I watch your videos and decompress with crafts. This is just the start for me, but I have already learned how to make cups and T-shirts. I cannot wait to learn more. You truly are a joy and inspiration to us all. I would give anything to have live classes with you, my mom and I love your ideas and channel!
Thank you so much. I'll b doing mine with an iron. Plus an explorer air 2. Making 2 shirts for my daughter n her best friend for their 100th day at school for kindergarten.
The reason I live your videos is that they are so clear and to the point! I know how to do it,in fact did my project while I watched you. Other channels make this a half an hour process. Thanks, Tanner!
My new clients are going to Disney and picked a svg with multiple layers of mickey and Minnie. As a beginner this video makes me more confident accomplishing this new task Thanks! 😄
You're so awesome! Thank you for being so great at explaining and showing how to do this. I was kinda nervous about doing a layer project but you totally gave me the confidence to make it happen. God bless you, your great work and channel.
Your Cricut will do it all for you! It will say how many layers your image is and tell you “Prepare the 1st mat” when you hit “Make it” and the will just cut them later at a time for you. When your done with your first layer cut it will say to prepare you 2nd layer and so forth. Just make sure your image is in separate colors on Design Space so Cricut will know you want separate colors. That’s what I’ve gathered so far anyway lol
I love how he says “right here” I’ve watched several of his tutorials even though I have a Silhouette instead of a Cricut. The principals are the same and his instruction is very easy to follow.
You have been my main source of learning for my cricut journey. Easy to understand. I originally watched you before my wedding when I was EXTREMELY stressed and your videos were straight forward and explained things well. Thank you.
I love the way that you explained each process in this video! It looks great and something that I can do. I have been doing single layer and has had such anxiety about getting this done. You explained it with a smile and that brightens my heart. Thank you 🎉
I tried using transfer tape last night on Cricut everyday iron on for a design with multiple layers. It ended up not even sticking to the fabric when I tried to iron it on. Lesson learned!
Thank you for this video! I was worried doing 30 secs per layer was too much but it wouldn’t stick when I did 15 secs. I had 7 layers too lol. I’ve also used parchment paper to protect the previous vinyl layers! My only regret is using a tshirt board when applying the vinyl. The cracks/creases in the board show through the vinyl 😭
Brill video, confirmed everything I needed to know... thanks, I will be making a 3 layer unicorn t-shirt that I made on ds for my little girl tomorrow now 🙂
Can you do a full Tutorial on how you make the layers of the project, the entire formate from making each layer by size of flower etc etc on the screen to putting it in the Cricut
Well we do that in most every video, and you need to personally choose your colors and size the image to your personal shirt or whatever you're putting it on :) That is why we do not show it in this video
I’m new as well and I’m soooo lost I thought this was going to be easy🙄😳🤔😯🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ I’m so thankful for you and your tips! You’re amazing! I love watching your RUclips channel! I’m so happy I came across it. I know prior on one of your RUclips you said it was best to wash once prior to ironing on. Should I air dry shirt or dry in my dryer?
Awe thank you!!! When pre-wahshing, please throw it in the dryer! Especially for shirts, the point of the pre-wash is to shrink the cotton in the shirt, so drying is a good idea :)
Thank you for this awesome video. Quick question... the recommended time for pressing is 30 seconds, so heating multiple layers for 30 seconds each doesn't damage the bottom layers of vinyl which end of receiving longer periods of heat?
Excellent tutorial. Love all the tips and tricks. I plan to start working more with have and infusible ink and appreciate all these tutorials and tips. Wishing you Tanner a super week. Hugs Susan
Hello, thanks for sharing. If you have two different types of vinyl that have two different press times and heat settings and you are layering, what takes precedence? Thank you.
GREAT question! The hottest setting should be used :) it's very hard to "burn" HTV but if it's not heated all the way through, that would be bad. Hope this helps! Happy crafting!
Awesome explanation! It may be in the comments but there are so many... I am curious, instead of the 1st sheet every time, are you able to use the Teflon paper?
Such great tips! I'm making my first shirt but I want to add some htv on the back side too. Do I need to put something in between the shirt to protect the vinyl on the front side? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you so much! Love your channel.
I thought heating the vinyl to long would make the sticky go away. What type of vinyl do you use for shirts? Mine has not been staying on. By the way thanks for the tips and tricks.
Quick question...I watched a different RUclipsr using a Cricut Design Space and she discussed colors and even showed it on her computer on the right hand side. Mine doesn’t show the colored dots next to images or lettering. I use a laptop. How do I find it or why isn’t it showing on mine? I’d love to do layering, but I can’t because I can’t group separate images.
You can change colors if your SVG is had different layers. If not, you can duplicate and contour out your design to make different layers different colors :)
Here is our tropical flower cut file: www.makersgonnalearn.com/cut_files/floral-2/ . It is available to any member of Makers Gonna Learn! www.makersgonnalearn.com/join/
Thank you for the wonderful tips for layering! Ready to try my first layering project. Where can I find those flowers that you layered? They remind me so much of Hawaii!
Question: when I did my layers like this the sticky side stuck to my previous layer and was trying to pull that color up when I tried to peel the additional layer. Why?
You really explained how to transfer the images, but hoe did you design all these cutouts? What's the difference between vinyl & HTV? What exactly is HTV? Please excuse my ignorance, but I just received my very first Cricut Explorer Air 2 for Christmas and want to do this process. Is all vinyl & HTV material accessible for tee shirts or sweatshirts? Besides Cricut materials, what other materials are just as good, but cost effective? Can an iron, do just as well as the heat press?
Makers Gonna Learn thanks for you quick response! Do you think it’ll be a strong enough adherence to become a pocket? I’m planning on cutting the pocket, say 5x5 and I’ll cut another piece of upholstery vinyl that’s 4x4, stick that on and then stick the 5x5 perimeter to the bigger piece that the pocket goes on. Will it be strong enough?
Sometimes my contours, cut in a way that when I layer them on a shirt they are a tad bit off in size and ill have space between vinly cuts that didn't seem to be on the screen. Is duplicate not exact or am I doing something wrong🤷.
Can heat vinyl be layered ON TOP of other heat vinyl? As in a Panda. I layered the white on the black but the white won't stick. Can you tell me how to do this? Thanks!
@@jessieann3871 Not sure if you’re asking me or the creator of this RUclips but I just used HTV I think you can do glitter vinyl you just can’t press it for very long.
How can i avoid the markings of the clear side when I iron the second layer over the first? It left an indented square from the cut out over my first layer.
This is a good question! These are hard to avoid. We like to use a teflon sheet instead of overlapping the transfer sheets too much. Try that next time! :)
Tanner is the only person who can say “hit the subscribe button” and I’ll actually listen! Thanks for the awesome & informative video!

After looking through many videos for a thorough explanation...THANK YOU!!!!!
You're welcome!
My new clients are going to Disney and picked a svg with multiple layers of mickey and Minnie. As a beginner this video makes me more confident accomplishing this new task Thanks! 😄
You did such a great job explaining how to do layers!! Thank you so much and the use of using the large layer film is brilliant!
Glad you think so!
Having watched your video, feeling more confident at trying layering.
Yay! Thank you for watching!
You're so awesome! Thank you for being so great at explaining and showing how to do this. I was kinda nervous about doing a layer project but you totally gave me the confidence to make it happen. God bless you, your great work and channel.
thank you so much for sharing such an easy to follow lesson!
You're so welcome!
Thanks!!!! That was way easier than I thought it would be. Now to find the video on how to make layered cuts in design space .
Glad it was helpful!

Love the trick with the ironed crease down the middle!!! It's a life saver!
Wow! You made that look so easy. I can’t wait to try this. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome!
Wow you make that look easy
Thank you! Practice makes perfect!
Great video! Thank you for breaking it all down so nicely, going to attempt my layered shirt tomorrow 🤞🏼
You're welcome! Good luck!!
Thank you
I tried using transfer tape last night on Cricut everyday iron on for a design with multiple layers. It ended up not even sticking to the fabric when I tried to iron it on. Lesson learned!
You can't use regular transfer tape for HTV (Iron-On). Only use the included transfer sheet and take your time transferring each layer.
That was the best video I have seen for layering. Thanks
Thank you so much for your kind words!
This was THE best explanation for layering! Thank you for the tips!
Glad it was helpful!
I feel like best is an over sell .
thank you so much for this!
U made this look soo easy thanks
Aww, thanks! It is easy once you get the hang of it!
I always use a teflon sheet when doing any vinyl iron on. It makes it so easy and doesn't stick at all!
They are very affordable!
Thank you for watching! ❤
This was a great video, thank you so much. Maybe I’ll finally try a multi-layered vinyl project!!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Love the hack for making sure design is centered. What do you suggest for making sure design is straight and not placed askew?
Thank you for this!!!

Hello, can you use a teflon sheet for each layer ?
Feel free to, yes!
What is the difference between putting back the carrier sheet onto layering HTV and putting parchment paper instead?
It does the same thing. Feel free to use parchment, you just need some type of barrier between the HTV and your EasyPress.
Are you using the same piece of transfer tape or did you also cut multiple pieces of that?
HTV comes with transfer paper built in :) We are re-using some pieces but we mention that in the video.
nice design,i want one where can i get this design.thanks

Layered Heat Transfer Glitter vinyl top layers never wants to stick. Any tips?
So you don't use a teflon mat to protect the shirt?
Can heat vinyl be layered ON TOP of other heat vinyl? As in a Panda. I layered the white on the black but the white won't stick. Can you tell me how to do this? Thanks!
yes, it can! :)
I figured it out. The white can only be pressed for a couple seconds on top of the first layer.
Did you layer htv on htv? If so how did you do it successfully? Have you used sports flex or glitter with layering?
