Having a really stressful day. Your videos teach me great things, but your voice and personality relax me. So, thanks for everything. I think you are a delight!
I love how clearly you explain everything, we get scared when we want to do it, but seeing you do it all becomes so easy. The owl is beautiful, I hope I can do it. I learn so much every day thanks to you. I already want to see other similar projects. Thank you very much.
Ppl like you make the world go around. My brain is experiencing so much anxiety bc I can’t wait until tomorrow, so that I can make a shirt ❤. Thank you. God bless you Miss Jennifer 😊
You are a Crafting Goddess! I just completed my first ever t shirt and it was a layered glitter vinyl. I am so proud of myself and I couldn't have accomplished it without you! It's not layered layered, but I used four different colors and had to fit the 4 pieces around each other with precise center measurements. All of your tips were very much welcomed. I can't sing your praises enough. Thank you thank you!!!
Thank you for another great (and really cute) tutorial! Would love to see a tutorial on placement of HTV in other areas besides centering on shirt. For example, pocket or heart placement, collar placement, and back of t-shirt placement.
I always learn so much from your videos! Thank you for being so clear, showing each step, and speaking slowly. You make every step and every project so much easier and more enjoyable! ❤️😁
Thanks for the detailed tutorial, I am used to screenprinting where you often separate the colors, instead of stacking them. Is there a benefit to either in HTV? Easier to eliminate gaps this way during shrinking? Similarly in screenprinting I would build in an offset or overlap to compensate.
Thanks so much for such a great tutorial! I was hoping to pick your brain about layering htv that use different heat/time/pressure settings. What happens if the top layer you want to use calls for higher temp/longer time of press than your bottom layer/s? For example, I have a piece with three layers; the bottom two will be Siser EasyWeed, which calls for 10-15 seconds at 305° with medium pressure, and the top layer (that I WANT to use, at least) is Cricut holographic iron on, which calls for 330° for 30 seconds with light pressure. I'm afraid of pressing the Siser for too long or overheating it, or inversely not pressing the holographic iron on for long enough/hot enough if I back down the settings for that top layer. Should I abandon ship altogether and use a different type of htv for the top layer? Thanks so much and be well!
I was tearing my hair out all day trying to figure out how the heck to put this PNG over because I couldn’t find the svg and the whole time it was the dang HTML one 🤦🏼♀️ Thank you! I just downloaded a bunch because you saved me!!!!
Thanks for another great tutorial! I’m just wondering, is there a limit to how many layers you can do? I feel like the materials would probably be affected after a while. I don’t have much experience so not sure.
I'm not really sure on how many layers would be too much. I haven't tested that but you can cut the vinyl out for some of the vinyl to fit in the cuts. Just go for it. You can decide when there are too many layers.
Thank you for another clear, concise tutorial. Thank you for sharing your talent, designs and time with us. You have inspired me to try cutting something other than paper. I was also admiring the 3-D alphabet behind you and was wondering if you have a tutorial for those too. Thanks again for all you do.
Thank you Jennifer I tried it on my own , apparently I needed instructions, let's say that I experienced all the stages of Crafting with vinyl 😢 . Thank you for rescuing me 🎉
I know this video was presented almost two years ago. And God knows I've seen almost every video you've ever done...and belong to every group and class you are part of. But this video...right here...saved the day for me. Of course I've watched it before. Of course I figured I'd know how to layer iron on vinyl. I've been doing the Cricut...vinyl...everything for a few years. But for some reason, I could NOT remember how to do this. My husband bought me the Maker 3 for Christmas. I already have the original Explore and the original Maker. After watching this video...I was able to make a Detroit Lions fan sweatshirt within a few minutes. I needed it for tomorrow's game. You make everything so easy to follow...step by step! I had my svg already to go and hit "make" and you said..."do not forget to mirror...it will remind you...but don't forget"!!! That saved the day. And using my Easy Press in 3 second intervals for each layer was a miraculous save the day step! I had 5 layers so I didn't want to mess it up! Thanks Jennifer. You are such a magnificent teacher! I actually had trotted over ( in the few minutes I had) to our Hobby Lobby to get some silver and some blue smart vinyl and for the first time ever didn't have to use a mat! Thank you...God bless you...and I'm sending virtual hugs your way! I'm so proud of how it turned out!
HELP! I made my business logo out of multiple colors and believed I followed your instructions. Everything stuck on well (although I had some issues with the small type letters). I set my design on the back but it remains sticky. The worst color was smart iron on glitter gold. I am using an easy press set at 330 degrees. Ideas?
Well I guess I didn't listen well at the start of your video. My first layer was the gold so I assume that was the problem. Trying again with adjusted vinyl.
I get ghosting marks on my vinyl when I make several layers. I have a feeling it’s from my Teflon sheets. Do you recommend something to avoid this? Please and thank you!
I have no idea why a two layer vinyl on a sweatshirt bubbled right in the middle of the decal. I removed the design and started over with the same materials. It did the same darn thing. Why?
Just what I needed to figure out this shirt for my grandson. Thank you Jennifer. I love how you have a video for everything I need to know. God Bless you and thank you again
I have been doing layered vinyl for a while now...and Jennifer, I have been doing it all WRONG according to this video. Thank you for sharing this and the tips in the video. This is a game changer.
Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial! I made a Hey Bear t-shirt for my toddler and I soon realized I needed to use layers to do what I wanted and had no clue what to do. His shirt came out perfectly!
THIS MADE THIS SO MUCH LESS SCARY!!!!! i am using a heat press though not an easy press so do i still start at a lower temp. i usually do it at 355 degrees!! thanks so much
You are literally a LIFE SAVER! I had designed a shirt for a concert in 2 weeks but the manufacturer cancelled my order. I have the svg files to try to make it myself. I was overwhelmed but your tutorial is perfect. Going to try to make it tomorrow
Christina Tregoning 1 second ago How do I layer permanent vinyl once I reverse to put on the inside of a picture frame to AVOID all the bubbles. For example: writing a name in blk with a shadow of white vinyl?? I can't find a youtube or anything on applying vinyl on the inside when layering and I know it can be done. HELP!! Thanks and love your videos
Wow, this video is excellent! Thank you so much for walking me through every step of this. I've been wanting to try a layered shirt forever but have always been too scared! Can't wait to try it :)
Question about the temperature. Glitter vinyl is 330° on cotton and Glitter is 315° on cotton so why did you heat all the layers to 315°? I'm going to use 2 types of vinyl on a cotton sweatshirt that aren't layered but next to each other. The Patterned vinyl calls for 340° and the Everyday vinyl calls for 315°. Do I press the Patterned vinyl first then reposition the Easy press 2 so I just cover the Everyday vinal without reheating the Patterned vinyl?
This was soooo helpful ❤. I’m wondering though if I have a cheap vinyl maybe. Is it normal to have pitting throughout the whole image? It’s on every layered piece I’ve hot pressed. Thanks again for your video!
Iron-on vinyl has to be mirrored because you cut the side that is the part that gets ironed down. So when you flip it over to iron it the words are correct to read.
I have layered a Minnie Mouse graphic on a onesie. but I can feel the edges of the vinyl. Unfortunately, I pressed each layer (using Easy Press) for 30 sec/315 degrees on each layer. Is that why I can feel the edges? Can I remove this and do it the correct way?
How bad is it? You may be able to slightly feel an edge to it which is not much different than what you would feel with a store bought shirt with vinyl on it.
Is glow in the dark/uv color changing HTV also considered to be classified in the ‘specialty vinyls’ and still need to adhere to the layers rules of ONLY being able to be applied to the top layer only as well?
Thank you for a great tutorial. I was so scared to layer and had no idea. I've had my press for 1 whole year and never used it. Now I'm going to. Thanks for sharing.💜
Hey Jennifer! My cousin wanted me to create a shirt for his daughter’s 6th birthday. She loves Ryan’s World and he sent me the image he would like on the shirts. I will be making three shirts. I do have two of the images already. What I don’t know is how to put it on design space and cut the images out. Can you help me? I already have the iron on vinyl in every color that will be needed.
I have been asking for help from numerous people but nobody will help me. When I layer these shiny lines show up all over my vinyl. Why? Whats it from? I don't understand. Ways to fix?
In other videos I've seen for vinyl on t-shirts they say after you finished the vinyl to the shirt you should flip the shirt over and press on the back as well for best results to help it adhere better and last longer. Is that NOT THE CASE here? Do we NOT press the back as well?
I try to follow you. Your just a bit to fast for me to follow for a beginner. You see I don't have a computer, so I can only use my i phone. Any suggestions?
So your way of iron pressing each layer for 3 sec’s is a method of adding all 4 layers without Transfer Tape is that correct? If I understand that right that is genius ! If not then I am confused & need to watch the video again! Thank You
I learn so much from you. What if you’re using all layers of everyday vinyl and no specialty vinyl. Do you still increase the temp on the last layer. And time it for the everyday vinyl?? Hope this made sense
Hi Jennifer love your tutorials. I just want to know if the easy presses can be used on other materials other than clothing, for example on wood/ ceramics etc
I was wondering how you would place your design on a shirt that has a seam running across the chest. If I center it, then the seam runs right in the middle. Can I just iron on as if it isn’t there or change the whole design 🤷🏼♀️ thanks for your help !
This way must make the shirt feel really thick. Would it not be better to cut the shapes so that they fit like a puzzle, and create 1 layer? Asking about comfort of the shirt.
I saw that used smaller pieces closer to the size of the design. Can this be done with smart vinyl? Or does the whole sheet/roll have to be intact? I hope I’m making sense lol.
Hi Jennifer I have just watched this video and my question is I have multiple different colour parts but they are not necessarily over laying each other. Just wondering if you apply the same technic as this video as putting one layer down first and then adding the others. I know you said that you can't layer any other material on top of glitter or foil but mine as i said I am not layering on top they are all fitting in with each other. So i am wondering if the foil is my biggest part and i need to put it down first as everything fits into the foil how should i do this please
This is probably a silly question, but do the "mats" shown on the last screen when cutting coordinate with the color they are supposed to be? Does that make sense? The last screen that has the mats numbered as they cut with the check marks going down the left side of the screen?
I love watching your videos, you always explain everything so clearly, I also have your Cricut Coach Playbook which is so helpful, thank you for making cricut enjoyable and less stressful
I thought you weren’t supposed to iron on vinyl on top of vinyl? Shouldn’t you have done cutouts for the bottom layer so the top layers are adhering to the shirt and not the vinyl?
I tried this on a shirt however the black writing faded when I had to press another sheet over top the black.. Will that always do that? It also looked the black color did bleed as well. Why is that?
Thank you! I have a cricut machine that was stored away for so long because just learning to use it seemed overwhelming, my goal was to learn how to make tees and now I have the confidence that I can do it!! Great tips and info!! Can’t wait to keep Learning some more from your videos!
Glad I could help! Here is a great place to start! We have a free series of online classes that show you how to set up and begin creating with your machine as a Cricut owner! Here's the link to sign up: makeracademy.com/cricutkickoff
Thank you so much. I love how you teach clearly, but succinctly. You’re thorough without belaboring your explanation. I have a channel too and I aspire to do this.
Great tutorial. By chance, do any of your books offer HTV layering tutorials in them? I love your videos, but sometimes books are easier for me to follow, because I can read the info over and over at my own pace.
Love how you explain everything so clearly! Is it possible to add a name on top of an ironed design( that's already there on a purchased Tshirt) without melting the one below? Thank you.
Just got my EasyPress 3 12x10 and unfortunately, after several failed projects and continued frustration; the EasyPress 3 is a complete failure in my hands. I purchased the the 12 x 10 for it's size and perceived thermal distribution. I has consistently failed to adhere any material towards the center. I have had to resort to using the edge of the machine to press the material and to no avail. Over three hours to press one shirt had me come to the decision to return it. I had such high hopes but it's not worth the agitation and dread. I love your videos, you are my goto creator and I am so heartbroken in not being able to create any future projects.
@@JenniferMaker Thank you for your reply! I'm thinking I did get a defective machine! I just did a full press and several layers continued to peel off. It has been such a disparaging experience I don't believe HTV crafts will be part of my forte'. Despite the disappointing experience with the press, my wife and I continue to watch for each and every new video.
Denise, glitter iron-on, due to its course material, needs to be the top most layer. If you layer on top of glitter iron-on, that course material will show through the material you ironed on top, making it not look so great.
Having a really stressful day. Your videos teach me great things, but your voice and personality relax me. So, thanks for everything. I think you are a delight!

Thank you for another great (and really cute) tutorial! Would love to see a tutorial on placement of HTV in other areas besides centering on shirt. For example, pocket or heart placement, collar placement, and back of t-shirt placement.
For other areas I would physically measure the space and then recreate that in Design Space with a square, rectangle, or circle, etc.

Yes! 😊🌻

Yes, you just don't use steam. 😊🌻

I get ghosting marks on my vinyl when I make several layers. I have a feeling it’s from my Teflon sheets. Do you recommend something to avoid this? Please and thank you!
I dont use a teflon sheet, I use parchment paper or butcher paper, and haven't have an issue....
I would use the plastic carrier sheets that come on the front of the iron-on. You can reuse them like I show in my video.
Thank you! ❤️
Thanks for the knowledge. I’m in the sneaker custom lane & recently started t shirts. Your videos have been a great help.
YAY! I'm so happy to hear that! 😊🌻
Thanks for the clear, organized presentation and the tip that nothing can go on top of the specialized vinyls.
What is the Sports Iron-on for?
Sports Iron on are for fabrics that are kind of stretchy, like the fabric of yoga pants ..or like an expandex type of fabric...
Exactly what octobergirl4 said. It is great for jerseys as well.
I've just discovered you and I am so glad. I love your work and how you explain every step. I also love your brand and consistency. Great job!
Thank you so much!
I agree, I love the way everything is explained step by step, it makes using Cricut very user friendly
You are the best and teaching and sharing . Thank you so much. I learn a lot from your chanel and on your web as well. 🙏👍
I appreciate that! 😊🌻
I have no idea why a two layer vinyl on a sweatshirt bubbled right in the middle of the decal. I removed the design and started over with the same materials. It did the same darn thing. Why?
What type of surface are you pressing your vinyl on? You can also preheat the shirt beforehand to remove any moisture.
Another great lessons. Can you layer infusible for a shirt with this technique?
I have not tried layering infusible ink.
Love your tutorials! They are the clearest, easiest, and best videos out here! Keep up the good work. Many of us appreciate everything you do!
Thank you! So glad you like them!💗
Just what I needed to figure out this shirt for my grandson. Thank you Jennifer. I love how you have a video for everything I need to know. God Bless you and thank you again

Super happy to hear this, Ash!
@@JenniferMaker I followed your tips and it turned out so good, thank you!
Siser sparkle is a layerable glitter vinyl. You can put other layers directly on top of it. Love the lil owl! So cute 🥰

How do I layer permanent vinyl once I reverse to put on the inside of a picture frame to AVOID all the bubbles. For example: writing a name in blk with a shadow of white vinyl?? I can't find a youtube or anything on applying vinyl on the inside when layering and I know it can be done. HELP!! Thanks and love your videos
You can apply the permanent vinyl on the inside of the glass. Make sure to mirror it.
Wow, this video is excellent! Thank you so much for walking me through every step of this. I've been wanting to try a layered shirt forever but have always been too scared! Can't wait to try it :)
Go for it! 😃
You could do it that way since they are not layered.
Great video, Jennifer!
Thank you!!
This was soooo helpful ❤. I’m wondering though if I have a cheap vinyl maybe. Is it normal to have pitting throughout the whole image? It’s on every layered piece I’ve hot pressed. Thanks again for your video!
You are so welcome!
Okay so if you mirror any vinyl you ALWAYS have to have your vinyl basically facing down and the paper on the back facing up?
Iron-on vinyl has to be mirrored because you cut the side that is the part that gets ironed down. So when you flip it over to iron it the words are correct to read.
Can I put printable vinyl and htv on the same shirt? Example.... The words of an image with htv and the image itself with printable vinyl?
Yes, you can do that.
I just started using my cricut! When I try the multi layer, my vinyl ends up looking wrinkled! I don't get why.
Reduce the time on the bottom layers to avoid that.
It can be layered over.
Thank you for a great tutorial. I was so scared to layer and had no idea. I've had my press for 1 whole year and never used it. Now I'm going to. Thanks for sharing.💜

I learn so much from you. What if you’re using all layers of everyday vinyl and no specialty vinyl. Do you still increase the temp on the last layer. And time it for the everyday vinyl?? Hope this made sense
You would use the recommended time and temperature for the vinyl and the shirt.

Hi Jennifer, I’m a new subscriber and I’m looking for a foil on fabric tutorial… do you have one of those?
I don't have one at this time but you may want to ask in my FB Group, facebook.com/groups/cricutcraftersandmakers/
This way must make the shirt feel really thick. Would it not be better to cut the shapes so that they fit like a puzzle, and create 1 layer? Asking about comfort of the shirt.
You could do that but this way is easy and it does not feel much thicker.
When I was doing my project, my eyes layer left lines on the base layer from the press
I’m using the mini press. Is that the problem?
Make sure that the carrier sheet covers the entire project to avoid lines when pressing.
I saw that used smaller pieces closer to the size of the design. Can this be done with smart vinyl? Or does the whole sheet/roll have to be intact? I hope I’m making sense lol.
You can make layered shirts with smart iron-on vinyl.
thank you! followed this and my first project was a success!

I know you said that you can't layer any other material on top of glitter or foil but mine as i said I am not layering on top they are all fitting in with each other. So i am wondering if the foil is my biggest part and i need to put it down first as everything fits into the foil how should i do this please
You would actually want to place your glitter and foil last to prevent overheating the two.
This is probably a silly question, but do the "mats" shown on the last screen when cutting coordinate with the color they are supposed to be? Does that make sense? The last screen that has the mats numbered as they cut with the check marks going down the left side of the screen?
Yes! And the check marks show that they are complete.
I love watching your videos, you always explain everything so clearly, I also have your Cricut Coach Playbook which is so helpful, thank you for making cricut enjoyable and less stressful
You are so welcome! 😃💜
Thank you for always sharing your talents with us. 🥰
My pleasure 😊
I thought you weren’t supposed to iron on vinyl on top of vinyl? Shouldn’t you have done cutouts for the bottom layer so the top layers are adhering to the shirt and not the vinyl?
You can iron on top of vinyl. I wouldn't;t go more than 3 layers. Glitter vinyl would on be for the top.
Thank you for all of these great tutorials!! PS Where did you get your green work mat?

Hi Jennifer! When applying the vinyl, does the shirt need to be washed or could it be not washed?
Either way. I do recommend that if you are going to pre-wash, do not use a softener. Once you have applied the HTV, you may wash normally.
How did you upload the whole image? When I upload an image I have to do pieces. Am I uploading each piece?
You only upload the SVG file of your choice. Open the SVG folder to see the cat, flower or owl and then drag the one you want into Design Space.
Does the cricut explorer 2 do this type of iron on? And can I upload my own artwork to put on tshirts? Thanks
Yes it does! You can do a print then cut with your artwork. jennifermaker.com/print-cut-cricut-transfer-tshirts/
How would you use the heat press if the vinyl is larger than the surface area of the heat press? Thank you
Press it in sections.
I tried this on a shirt however the black writing faded when I had to press another sheet over top the black..
Will that always do that? It also looked the black color did bleed as well. Why is that?
Cricut iron-on vinyl was use to make this and we have not encountered that problem with the brand. jennifermaker.com/how-to-layer-vinyl-on-a-shirt/
I noticed you didn’t heat the back of the T-shirt. Just the front. Is that what you do on layered shirts or did I miss something
You can heat the back when you make a layered shirt.
Is it possible to have multiple layers of the same color while doing HTV on a t-shirt
You would not be able to press multiple layers at the same time if the carrier sheets cross over. 🥰
thank you
You're welcome 😊🌻
Thanks this really helped.
Hello how do you get the shirt template i use my iPad and i can't find a way to get the shirt template
templates are not available on iOS.🥰
@Jennifer Maker can you put infusible ink on iron on vinyl if you are doing a layer design?
Infusible ink needs a polyester base so it would need to be your bottom most layer. I would not layer on top of it.
So it the top layer had been regular vinyl what temp would you have used?
I would use the temperature that is recommended for the correct type of vinyl.
Me too. I've had my cricut since Christmas!
Same. I'm going to get mine back out!
Hi Jennifer, how much do you sell a T-Shirt like one of those?
I do not sell any of my work but people do in my group that may have an answer for you. facebook.com/groups/cricutcraftersandmakers/
Thank you so much. I love how you teach clearly, but succinctly. You’re thorough without belaboring your explanation. I have a channel too and I aspire to do this.
Thanks so much! You can do it too! Best wishes to you. 😊💜
@@JenniferMaker thank you so much!
Can I do the same project, iron on vinyl on blankets?
Certainly! 🥰
Great tutorial. By chance, do any of your books offer HTV layering tutorials in them? I love your videos, but sometimes books are easier for me to follow, because I can read the info over and over at my own pace.

@@JenniferMaker thank you so much! I appreciate it!
Should you wash the shirt before you put on the design?
You do not have to. It is not required.
Love how you explain everything so clearly! Is it possible to add a name on top of an ironed design( that's already there on a purchased Tshirt) without melting the one below?
Thank you.
Yes you can! Make sure to cover it with butcher paper and try to press only on the letters and not the whole design.
Tysm!
newbie here I've been trying to do christmas stockings /iron on/
❤😊😊😊like has owls and hugs
I'm looking to make a bluey
Thank you. Cricut makes wonderful products and has great customer service. Perhaps you got a defective one. jennifermaker.com/cricut-heat-presses/
Can you apply HTV to both the front and back of a t-shirt?
Yes, you can. You can put a pressing mat inside the t-shirt.
Love this tutorial and all the little tips and tricks to make it so easy, I’m going to give it a go!
I'm so glad! 💗
I successfully did this years ago and forgot the process, thank you for this vid!
Quick question, did you use cut image or print then cut ??
This is a cut image that I layered.
What happens if you put everyday vinyl on top of specialty vinyl like glitter vinyl? Your video says don't do it but why? what happens?
Denise, glitter iron-on, due to its course material, needs to be the top most layer. If you layer on top of glitter iron-on, that course material will show through the material you ironed on top, making it not look so great.
@@JenniferMaker thank you for the explanation. Makes sense.🫶🏻
I love your skirt. Would love to make one for my next Disney trip. Where did you get it and did you layer like the owl. Thanks so much
