Crazy days when a stock pickup is one of the faster vehicles at th track. You’re consistent enough that you could go bracket racing.
Bracket races are dominated by Tesla's these days. The competition is really tight with electric vehicles being so consistent.
You ever seen an Ecoboost run?
@@FlameOnTheBeat TRX run very low 12's. Lighting was doing high 12's all day.
@@ismaelcarrillo3956 The TRX did a 13.8.. Not 12's
Sitting on stock all-seasons, no tonneau cover.. Unbelievable!
Hey Mike. This is the Tesla leather gloves guy. It was a pleasure racing you.
I have to say, this sure gives me new respect for EV's. Having owned Trans Ams and Camaros most of my life, getting to the high 12's is something to be proud of. Now, a Ford F150 does it without any mods! Either way though, ICE or EV, it takes a lot of money to get to these numbers.
Base model lightning is 40K tho. That ain't t bad. This wasn't a base, but I believe the base is the same where it matters
Ya the thing is there are really no mods for this maybe a better tire set up, so that where most of the trucks will be stuck at
Have you driven a new GAS Mustang V/8 with a 10 speed automatic lately? It'll blow all this GREEN stuff to the curb box stock. Without having to plan trips based on charging stations along the way. BTW would you look forward to standing by your GREEN ride at the charging station during an terrific lightning storm? LOL
@@XXPS60, when I get one, it will charge at home about 98% of the time. The range is more than enough for my daily driving. Long trips will require some planning, but charging infrastructure is getting better with time.
@@XXPS60 We raced my buddies slightly modded c8 vette a few weeks ago against my Tesla Model 3 performance. The Vette didn't even come close to standing a chance. It looked like a child's toy. That vette would definitely be quicker than a stock 5.0
I LOVE the sound of a powerful engine. But the electrics are sooo fast!! I drove a Tesla, and the acceleration is just insane.
As a daily driver of a model 3 performance… yeah. It never gets old 😂
Drive a plaid. It’s literally next level. Like your brain can’t compute how this thing moves so fast.
Tesla motor is MAX speed: 18,000 RPM
You might really like the new EV Dodge Chargers! All the performance of the EVs, but with VROOOOM SOUNDS!!!!! LOL
@@ChrisLeiter It will when you have to replace the battery.
I have had my lightning since June 3rd, lariat with extended range. it's like nothing I have driven before. I love this truck. Also keep in mind that this truck weights in at around 6600 lbs!
Don't talk about weight, it's weigh that much because of battery, which is not useless.
@@currycel470 of course I will talk about weight. Weight is weigh regardless of where it's at. It affects range, speed, towing, road wear, vehicle registration, wear and tear on parts, I could go on...
@@currycel470 my 1997 Ford 350 weigh around 7,200 lbs , and can pull the same as that electric Ford and still have about 70 miles to go before tank is empty
@@EarthSouthside You're waiting for the 3rd generation of this truck then. So about 7-10 years.
If the pro model came with the extended battery I would be all over it. The price difference between the regular and extended range batteries is ridiculous
Bone stock and factor tires in a full-size four-door truck turning 12s. Unbelievable but there it is.
Plus it can tow 10,000 pounds and go off-road!
@@Renniz72 with that weight range is only about 70 miles.
Nice. Looks like the Lightning is put together better than the Mach E.
Electric cars are expensive toys. I have a Honda civic
Gotta love the relaxed dad&son having fun atmosphere - good times and an awesome car!
Only the electric American cars are winning...
High altitude drag racing w electric is the ultimate advantage
Taking an electric truck to a drag strip makes no sense and I love it. Keep up the good work guys!
Taking most modern performance cars to a drag strip these days makes no sense! Launch control, engine management, automatic transmission and all in a straight line, it's nothing more than a reaction test. Can do that with an app on the sofa! ;)
@@djtaylorutube Well you can modify them. I modify my Tesla all the time. Its just a different skill set, from mechanic to engineer.
@@KrAOLo What sort of modifications? That's a genuine question.
Taking a tesla electric vehicle to a drag makes no sense either

Tommy thinking the Lightning would run 15s made my day, then running a 12.11 was the perfect surprise.
Good times . That caddy V surprised me in making up from start. Electric ⚡️ torque is awesome
Very consistent run times, nicely done. 👌
You should always turn A/C off as it drips water on the track...
Facts!
My friend had a model s plaid, and it was pretty nice. When they sold it though and they got the Ford f150 lightning my god we loved that thing.
That was truly amazing! looks like you all had a blast. Lightning was impressive
So how much battery was left after eight passes down the track?
Glad you guys took it to the track. Need to spend some more time there your online audiance would probably enjoy it too
Man those Tesla’s are fast, and no drama.
You beat the CTS-V, you got the win light. She had a bad reaction time. Take the win!
You did Great Tommy!! It's a New truck...might take some time to get used to it... Great racing!!
Love this video! That Tesla Plaid is insane!
A stock pickup solidly in the 12s. Amazing, and it's dead quiet and rides like a dream.
HEY! I’m bandimere security! I took your picture on your way in! Didn’t know just how big you guys are, cool to see some big guys come up to our track!
Pretty impressive for sure.
Tommy, don’t wait to see the green light. You got to go on the bottom bulb.
That plaid tho🔥
Thx, that was a lot of fun watching. I had no idea how exciting to watch normal people with normal cars drag racing. And @11:01 , who would have thunk a Tundra would beat a Mustang.
Can we just stop and appreciate a $50k, 4-door family car running 11.65?!
should be running around 11.2 my model 3 with accel boost runs 11.68 at 36k dollars
I was genuinely surprised when that truck chirped the tires on the Ike gauntlet challenge. And no BS my guess was that you would run a 12.89 looks like I was right on the money
I think what I love about this channel besides the quality of content is watching these guy love what they do and watching sub count go up. Well on ya way to 100k and up !
TY for sharing ... that cutting off power gotta be super annoying, but it's still super fast!! ... I remember how much tuning + bolt ons I had to add to my 93 DSM to run this quick ...
Great video. Super fun to watch. Thanks guys
Very consistant runs! Nice!
Curious what those 8 runs did to the battery's state of charge.
The SOC on a lightning is a setting controlled by the PCM. Putting the vehicle in sport puts the SOC value at 50. Once disabled i believe it's set back to 65. For some reason though. I believe that you may be talking about something else.
@@EarthSouthside not sure where you are getting that info from but I did 10-15 runs with my Tesla M3P and never dipped in performance, consistent 11.7. My battery went from 73 to 48.

In 2035
Great work gentlemen, awesome content
That was a LOT of fun! Thank you..
Drag racing is fun, lot better use of leisure time than watching television!
Nice runs! Glad to see real track results instead of keyboard racing. Regarding the chick in the CTS V, look at the time slip... she let off just past the 1/8 mile. Her speed at the 1/8 mile was 97 and her speed at the 1/4 was 100. What was the state of charge in the Lightning? I know that in my Model Y performance there is a steady decline in 1/4 mile time as SOC goes down.
Looks like you guys has some good fun at the track. Truck did really well!
Wait till a Shelby or Super Snake comes out.
The true test should be drag racing while towing 10k behind you 🤣
Great video btw, great father son dynamic.
Oh man, what would the dragstrip do if you showed up with a mini-excavator strapped to the back?
I want to see an Ike Gauntlet uphill tow going for the fastest time possible.
I thought running the A/C while on the track was a big “no no” due to the potential of dripping water on the track and the potential for causing accidents. I definitely haven’t see performance decreases when running A/C like in a gas car.
I hope someone will let me know about the water on the track.
Yes...I made a comment about it too.
This guy seems to be a complete dirtbag with no regard as to the safety of others. I hope the track bans him from attending future events.
it is a huge no no.
@@cmiller8006 that is what I thought. Thanks for confirming, as I’ve never personally been to a drag strip racing.
Maybe for sub 10 or 8 second non street legal cars. Most won’t have AC. But for street legal drags it’s not a big deal. I’ve even seen some put ice on their intercoolers/intake manifolds before a race.
@@TobyCostaRica they specifically tell you not to at Norwalk. I've seen people turned around do to the evaporator dripping
I really miss Bandimere, but I don't miss the DA for ICE vehicles. Also, Ecoboost F-150s are definitely running 12s and 13s with tunes.
I'm only at 1:57 and I know the 15s comment is just for entertainment value and shock at the real number. Way to juice up the video Tommy. Finished it. Great video guys request more from this raceway.
State of charge matters too
Hurray for Bandimere Speedway, family-owned since forever.👍

This was amazing and fun. Thanks for uploading this video.
Can't wait for the Tesla Cyber truck to come out with four electric motors. It'll literally be a Plaid +1.
Sure, in 2035
Tommy, when that last amber light lights up you go… don’t wait for the green!
Tommy. Just an fyi. You don’t take off when you see green. You take off when the last amber goes off. On some vehicles that are slower to start moving, you take off while the last a,beer is lit.
Add .2 - .3 street times due to track timing rollout plus the added traction of lane rubber and some leftover glue. The record setting tesla plaid only comes with 275 width street rated tires. Electric traction and power aids are outstanding compared to ice cars rwd.
Starts at 4:06
Very cool. Now make it a 1 ton and have it get 400-500 mile range. Baby steps, I know.
They'll be at 1000 miles in 3-4 years.
@@uowebfoot Lol in your dreams. The Model S long range has had around the same range for years now and the only competitor is Lucid which is claiming 500 in their $150,000 car. Gas is still king in the range department. A $25,000 Prius can do 800 miles.

I am a dino (mainly diesel) guy all the way but when I heard about the lightning I had to test drive one. Then there was NO way I wasn't buying one. It took two month to find one but my God it is wayyyyyy too much fun to be legal! Nice to see all the positive comments, unlike instagram where it is all hate. I still absolutely love my F250 7.3 diesel but in all honesty I have only touched the keys 2 times in the 3 months of owning the Lightning. And the wrangler and 76 nova have sat untouched since. The ride in the lightning is just that great!!!
That was fun to watch
Awesome stuff man. The plaid vs the vette, soon as the vette changed gears it was over for him. That constant electric power is a beast!! Your ford lightning is super awesome too. Definitely is no slouch n will surely surprise a lot of ppl I’m the streets.

Cool video, cool truck, but I want to know more about that stripped out Jaguar with the side exit exhaust, low key cold air intake in the headlight housing and boost gauges sticking up through the firewall.
Ah very natural convo in the intro :)
Curious if the Lightning has a speed limiter and that the reason it dropped power was because you were approaching the limiter.
Probably 117MPH limit...what typical full size truck tires are speed rated for
All I can say is wow
Model 3 vs lightning close? A full second slower is A LOT of time lol
Closer than you’d have guessed I bet. Truly impressive vehicles both
@@smartelectriccar you are new to the drag racing world. A full second is a lot of time…
I think this truck is best suited in a 1/8 mile drag strip. The top end power loss really diminishes its power
Tesla S Plaid should do low 9's. Not sure why that guy is running mid 9's. Must have a passenger with him.
or not fully charged.
Bracket racing times! Very impressive and consistent.
That's literally how computers work. They only do what you tell them to do. If you ask them the do the same thing over and every again millions of times per second, that is exactly what they will do.
They don't have the variability that ICE engines do. It's literally expected that they perform consistently every single time. That's how transistors work...if it weren't for this reliability, no computer would ever function correctly.
There really is no surprise here.
@@RK-kn1ud But because of batteries, you can only do a few runs before your battery overheats and you have almost no power.

Best job in the world
What was the lightning’s SOC and battery temp?
I had a 2000 lightning. Awesome trick. Would love to have the new one.
Are you allowed to have the tailgate down during the drag races?
Interesting how consistent your times were after 8 runs. What was the overall drop in your battery percentage? For me in my model 3 performance, I lose about 1% after every 1/4 mile run.
I feel like thats an acceptable rate.
Crazy 🤣 how fast the truck is. 12.81 in the quarter👏 and at a high elevation. But as racers say "It's bought not built"
I feel like it’s even better because you don’t have to spend more on upgrading.

Wow Tommy , what a great family business to be born into this looks super fun 🤩
Would be nice if the lightning had a launch mode for best 0-60 times….
I wonder if with people reporting the fronts scrabble for traction on launch. If Ford could tweak the programming for hard acceleration to put more power to the rear wheels. Or if it already does? 🤔
That Tesla Model 3 Performance was really slow. If you navigate to a Supercharger before your run it will precondition the battery and run 11.50 or lower with a reasonably charged battery.
Do you what battery temperature provides the best results?
Fun trick, you can navigate to supercharger while you are away from the car by putting a weight on the driver's seat.
@@David-bh2ug I have done a lot of testing and I believe between 53 degrees C and 55.5 degrees C will provide 455 KW of maximum discharge power. That is the highest I have seen.
Lol, no thanks
My non-performance Model 3 with acceleration boost can run about the same time, must have been at a 60% charge.
@@LearningFast dude that’s 610 hp. That’s insane. I thought the car was rated for 500?
With a bit larger tires you could bring you top end up, but you will loose a bit off the line. Turn on the dif lock and off traction control. If you tires slip you might try airing them down just a tiny bit. You might also power break if the truck lets you.
It's already in SPORT mode.
For as quick as the Lightning is the 60' is horrendous. I'd expect that kind of time if the truck was losing traction and spinning the tires like ice vehicles typically do.
Rides high and high efficiency tires. Probably too much weight transfer and not enough grip.
Yeah, that was the most surprising part of this, after watching so many tesla videos you get use to the EV's destroying the completion for the first 60 and they have to try to catch up (to non-plaids) . Here it was getting beat in the first 60 (besides just reaction time).
@@curtisbme a stock ecoboost truck with a tune is quicker than this lightning. At sea level they can run 11s.
I feel like this is just the start! No doubt that this is the future! in another 10 years, or so, these EV's will be lighter, faster, and more efficient!
Yes. They're called Tesla's
@@ismaelcarrillo3956 , the model S is extremely fast. There's definitely room for improvement. I recently saw a new start up company for EV batteries. He claims his new lighter batteries will get 7-800 mile range. The batteries being so heavy is the biggest hindrance in the range....
I have a M3performance in black . I got behind some crazy looking hyper car going onto the interstate the other day he punched it (man it had a sweet exhaust note) I had to let off after half a second at full throttle so I wouldn't run over him. they are stupid fast right now.
There is a NEW Carbon-Kevlar-Composite fibre body fabrication technology coming out to retail channels within 10 years that will reduce the price of building super-light-weight all-Carbon-Kevlar composite body panels and ladder frames (i.e. at 1/5th the weight of steel and 1/2 the weight of aluminum) to almost the same price as stamping out sheet aluminum and steel!
First we use a NEW environmentally-friendly method to break up CH4 (methane or natural gas) into Hydrogen and Carbon Black called Electro-Oxide-Catalysis that creates the components (i.e. Carbon Black) that gets mixed with ceramic particles and/or polyaramid plastic filaments (i.e. Kevlar) to create a super-strong-and-light-weight filament (i.e. string) that is wound using SUPER-FAST fully-computerized winding machines into WHOLE SHEETS (4 metres by 4 metres square) of cloth that is pressed together with a NOW CHEAPER and MORE DURABLE AND MORE FIREPROOF RESIN by Laser-vision-based Auto-Filament-winding and super-heated-hydraulic-bag-resin-compression systems that can create whole body panels and ladder frames within MINUTES rather than hours or days! (No giant vacuum chambers or autoclaves needed!)
This means that the 6600 lbs of the current 2022 Ford F150 Lightning that is 1800 pounds of battery and 4800 pounds of body structure can be reduced to 2400 pounds of body structure and 900 pounds of battery using Aluminum-Sulfur batteries or Graphene Supercapacitors. That is a 3400 lbs worth of weight reduction!
THAT MEANS the Future All-Carbon-Kevlar composite fibre-based Ford F150 Lightning will be 3200 lbs versus today's 6600 lbs. Even the suspension springs/coils and wheels can be made of the stronger and more resilient carbon-kevlar composites! That also means the all-carbon composite fibre-based F150 Lightning will be able to carry 5200 lbs in the back bed versus the 1800 lbs it currently carries! Plus carbon-kevlar-composite-fibre body panels and ladder frames are STIFFER and STRONGER (tensile, torsion, shear, compression-wise) than steel or aluminum!
Hard to beat that!
