Breath of the Wild has an eerie sense of loneliness in its overworld that no other game in the series can match. The story teaches you how to live with tragedy and you are basically going around this destroyed post apocalyptic land trying to figure out who you are and what happened. The sheikah technology was also very interesting from a lore perspective and the characters were really good as well.
@@chooongusbug724 The sense of loneliness doesn’t come from the lack of content. It comes from the fact that you are traveling around this post apocalyptic land that’s been shredded to ruins. The empty space between places is completely necessary for the overall feeling and atmosphere of the overworld. You can feel the sadness and despair in the air at times. People also spend hundreds of hours playing the game which goes against your lack of content argument. And there’s plenty of extra content to be found in the DLC as well. Including master mode and the ex champion trials. If anything lacks content its Tears of the Kingdom because the map is 3x as big and yet 3x as empty. The sky is empty, the depths is tedious, and you build cars and planes to travel around the same exact map as Breath of the Wild. They really spent 7 years making that game and thought they were adding extra content. At least Breath of the Wild felt like a brand new experience.
@ShadowWizard224 the sense of loneliness absolutely comes from the fact there's nothing to do but go off. Enjoy that 60 dollar beta, nostalgia is a wild thing lol
@@chooongusbug724 Nostalgia??? Your acting like the game came out 100 years ago. The game wasn’t perfect but it was completely necessary for the time it came out especially after the backlash that skyward sword got for the 25th anniversary back in 2011. It was a great game for the time it came out and completely revolutionized the series. You’re probably one of those players that complains about weapon durability because you’re not skilled enough to actually be good at the game. There’s plenty of content to last people hundreds if not thousands of hours so I honestly don’t know what you are talking about. The eerie sense of loneliness comes from the vibe and atmosphere not lack of content. And if that’s still not enough the DLC has plenty of extra content as well like extra cut scenes, trials, boss rushes, master mode, etc etc… Monk Maz Koshia is a top three boss battle in the entire series and the game itself has one of the most underrated soundtracks in the entire series. It won game of the year for a reason.
This was my first Zelda game and I enjoyed it. I was not crazy about the breaking weapons at first but it did make you explore more to find better ones. You get the satisfaction of beating a monster with his own weapon. I loved the empty open space instead of fighting something every ten seconds. I also loved the red moon respawn to give you more time to ride a horse or something else. I did hate the rain showing up while I was climbing.lol
I like TOTK more. It has this time travel element, the larger emphasis on an ancient highly-advanced civilisation and even though equally scarcely populated, feels more “alive”. As if BOTW was the first shot and TOTK finally got it right. But both games are great. I hope there will be more in that vein on the upcoming Switch 2.
I dont think i can agree rhat BotW was a masterpiece but it came very close. It just felt a bit too empty and didnt have much to do outside of fighting enemies or looking for koroks. But there absolutely was potential with open air Zelda and i think Tears of the Kingdom is what truly showed that open air Zelda is here to stay. Tears of the Kingdom is what i wanted out of Breath of the Wild. Caves, meaningful side quests (i didnt like most of the side quests in BotW outside of the one in Kakariko with the Yiga member who defected to the Sheikah, most were just standing around on a pedesta, waiting for a shadow to hit a pedestal or grabbing 40 pieces of wood from cutting trees), a story thats actually going on in the present and a story thats going on in the past thats actually mysterious, more interesting mechanics and just much more do to in a world that i originally thought was pretty barren. I love both games and TotK wouldnt exist without BotW, but TotK was absolutely what i wanted out of BotW
I understand your complaints about botw feeling empty. However, I feel that botw being empty helped make a feeling of loneliness and made it seem like ganon had actually destroyed Hyrule. With totk the people of Hyrule are rebuilding Hyrule so, having a lot of things to do make sense. In my personal opinion I like botw better however, totk is definitely an amazing game.
@zzzr0wlit I feel nostalgia blinds you a bit TBH, even back when BotW came out? Everyone was complaining about the game being empty and asking for stuff like caves and side quests that actually mattered. And even before TotK? I felt BotW was more so a beta or proof of concept for what open air Zelda could be... TotK delivered on that in a way BotW couldnt due to the technical limitations of Wii U holding BotW back (you know Aonuma wanted caves and sky islands in BotW but couldn't implement them because of the Wii U's CPU/lack of ram?) Both games have their place but when I see someone say BotW was better, I have to pose the question (like I do when people say OoT is better than MM) how much of that is nostalgia talking? It's absolutely fine, we all have fond memories of stuff we love but I feel its a valid thing to bring up/question For me? After 20 hours of exploring in BotW, I realized I was gonna find nothing but empty grassy plains, Korok poo or a shrine and if it was a blessing shrine (one that was just sitting out in the open) I got a bit disappointed because exploration didn't really matter. TotK? Caves alone make exploration much more rewarding, not to mention quests where I'm helping NPCs get from point A to point B, stuff that's more interactive and makes the world feel like it's more alive. I've heard the argument of BotW going for a more barren feeling to make the world feel more lonely and to an extent I agree but I also feel that's a bit of a cop out for people to excuse BotW kind of being devoid of meaningful content. But too each their own
@@tinyhumans9304tbh even playing botw now after totk still makes me think that botw was better. I never really minded that some parts of the game felt empty. Exploring felt fun even if I didn't find much in the areas of which I was exploring. I also didn't really like totks story that much. In totk ganon feels like he has no reason to be evil. Ganon in botw isn't human and is basically just a monster made of malice and because of this he is evil as he is made up of hatred of the final boss of skyward sword(didn't want to spoil skyward sword in case you hadn't played it). I feel like ganon should have had motives in totk if they wanted to convey a story that made sense because ganon is human in that game. If you want a human to be a villain in a story then that villain should have a reason to be against the main characters.

Amazing video. To be honest my first experience with the game wasn't great. I couldn't work out how to leave the great plateau! On my second playthrough I completed it to 100%.
I must be in the minority because I tried the game and I just could not get into it even though it was very pretty and cool in the beginning. (I didn't like the survival aspect with baking food and managing that aspect.. and also the numerous objects and the weapon that break etc ) I much prefer a game like Prince of Persia, the last Crown, which I find to be a masterpiece.
Try Tears of the Kingdom, it's legitimately what Breath of the Wild should've been. Breath was kinda empty and after a few hours of exploring? You knew what you were gonna find where in Tears? There's so much to do, so much to see, better gameplay mechanics, a more refined gameplay loop and a more engaging plot all around. I've met quite a few people who didn't like Breath but love Tears so I think Tears is worth checking out
