It was nice to see them both in one stage, singing together... nostalgia to Miss saigon days where Lea as Kim and Ruthie in the ensemble. I wish to see them in person.
lovinglife same also reminds me of Les Mis 10 where they played Eponine and Fantine respectively and they were Kim and Ellen in its final weeks on broadway
I didn't even know the lyric changes had been made until I was singing along like the old queen I am, as I usually do, reading the lyrics and they didn't match. I wish people would stop f*cking about with stuff. It's one thing being woke and accepting, but erasing stuff and rewriting is beginning to verge on farcical
I watched the performances then and now many times and Simon and Ruthie have their voices aged. Interesting comparison but still elegant and beautiful voices. Lea's sweet voice has changed a bit but still a legend..
Last night I watched him sleeping, My body pressed to him. And then he started speaking. The name I heard him speak was Kim... Yes, I know that this was years ago, But when moonlight fills my room I know You are here, still. I still- I still believe You will return. I know you will. My heart against all odds Holds still. Yes, still, I still believe. I know as long as I can keep believing, I'll live. I'll live, Love cannot die. You will return, you will return, And I alone know why... Last night I watched you sleeping. Once more the nightmare came. I heard you cry out something, A word that sounded like a name. And it hurts me more than I can bear Knowing part of you I'll never share, Never know. But still- I still believe The time will come When nothing keeps us apart. My heart forever more holds still. Age-related vocal fatigue. Broadway singers are vocal athletes that train to perform. There are individual variations, but like any other athlete, a Broadway singer experiences changes as he or she ages.
I read online it is damage from poor technique. It is very intense vocally on the West End Stage and if you don’t take good care it can destroy your voice. She sang other songs in that concert and sounded awful. Alice Ripley has lost her voice too.
Her hearing may also be affected. She's struggling to hear the pitch. Her voice is definitely fatigued as well. Causing her to force the sound further hurting her vocal cords.
I love Ruthie, and idolise Lea, but Ruthie sounded so out of tune and her demeanor wooden here, which is a shame. Think her hair was bothering her a bit. Lea gives 100% to every performance. Her voice hasn't changed at all. My daughter's ex boyfriend's brother Jordan was in "I'm a celebrity" with Ruthie though and she was his favourite campmate and the nicest apparently apart from Beverly Callard.
The whole orchestra started out of key!! When lea started the first verse you can hear the flutes are out of key and not even a little bit. But yes Ruthie had major trouble and that’s not what I am used of with her!
I feel like Miss Saigon has gone through more unnecessary lyrics rewrites than any other show I can think of. Every version I've seen & heard is different! Stop toying with my emotions!
@@tarajh totally agree. Its "her or me" was always a better fit than "now that I've seen her" lyrically but to be replaced completely is so unnecessary
Sounds like Ruthie's vocal cords were shot! Vocal nodes perhaps? She was flatting and had a hard time producing a decent sound. Ruined the duet with Lea. Too bad, I liked Ruthie's Fantine during the Les Mis 10th anniversary. Time for some vocal rest for her.
What happened with Ruthie Henshall? Her singing was so full of flats! It was so distracting that not even Lea's beautiful singing saved the number. :-(
Her voice has gotten worse with time unfortunately, she is still an amazing actress but her singing technique is quite unusual and has ruined her voice. Her versions of Memory and I Dreamed a Dream are still some of the best.
@@cumfreyjones5487 You should watch Lea's performance of I dreamed a dream recently in Lytham. Someone even sent her a letter telling her how beautiful it is. ruclips.net/video/ZgqM5d_VYlA/видео.html

@@brandon.october It is sadly. In her prime she was one of my favourites singers. I got to see her as Fantine in the 10 year anniverasy of Les Miserable and she blew me away ❤️
What a royal B Lea telling onstage "not bad..." to a collegue, and considering all that's happened and the horrible live conditions that are obvious... even she is screaming as she's was trying to overshadow Ruthie.
Not Ruthie at her best, but so well said about Lea. She has been so lionized over the years that it clearly has gone to her head. She was brilliant and likely has been unequalled as Kim. Yet her Eponine has long been overrated (lacking in feeling and character), and her Fantine, while I saw her just twice in the role, was nowhere near the best I've seen.
I think it's better to overshadow ruthie in this performance. She's doing so horrible. She didn't take care of her voice and she's my favorite fantine omg.
@@normcummings1967 There’s probably more context to this. Both were not feeling well and given the live conditions. They were probably expecting the worse but they both were able to get through it, thus, Lea telling both themselves, “not bad”.

Bravo
Lea Salonga: Perfect pitch!
Two queens on the same stage and such a beautiful song 🎭♥️😭
So much respect for these two ladies. Fantastic!
Filipino pride Ms. Lea Salonga! 👏🇵🇭💗
Love you Ruthie. Such a talent, and look gorgeous. 💗
breathtaking. they both complement each other in singing and performance.
Two Queens sharing the stage!
Such powerhouses. Amazing. Absolutely amazing ❤️😍👍🏻💫🎤💐
A perfection!
Wow! The clash of two greatest Fantine ever! 😍
Love Ruthie. I enjoyed her in miss Saigon when I seen her on broadway
two queens 🥺🥺
This is so much better than the new lyrics
Honestly the lyric changes in the revival were in my opinion completely unnecessary.

Love Miss Saigon.
I love Ruthie Henshall 02:40 but she was out of tune.. i think its too cold. Still she was my favourite Ellen
That’s years of bad technique taking its toll, it’s nothing to do with the cold
Yey Fantine and Eponine
Eponine and fantine.
Lea is singing in the song's original key back in the 90s.
Something is up with Ruthie's voice. This is not her normal - you can tell something is affecting her

I think if you watch carefully, it’s because she is singing into the wind which is not easy. It’s an open air performance

I think Ruthie does great here. I don’t get why people don’t like her performance.
She’s off key and struggling.

She's a soprano with a wide range. Jasmine and Mulan are sopranos

Ruthie sounds like she's drunk. I wonder what happened.

AZdudeAZ singing in the correct key, however, on most of the belted notes she was flat due to strain.
