Let's not forget that both Liz and Lea lent their voices to be the singing voices for Jasmine as well. I would have never expected a duet with these two together.
What's especially awesome (I think) about Lea's singing here is that she was able to "make" her voice sound "young" again. Saigon was 1989, almost *20* years before this concert. Today, Lea's voice is much stronger, thicker, fuller. Yet in her opening section here she sounds like the 18-year old Kim again. Amazing.
I'm curious about something and I'd love to ask someone who actually attended the concert. We see Liz on stage from the start of "I Still Believe" but she enters the stage during the song "The Story Goes On" - did Liz sing a song, leave the stage, and then return for the second duet? Or are these out of order and they sang the duets back to back? Thanks in advance!
Yes initially they do sound similar, but if you hear them carefuly, you can see Liz has a higher tone and their vibratos are completely diferent. Lea is a Mezzo and Liz a Soprano.
Consistently pitch perfect, Lea is! Her dynamics is just so goooooooooood! Her diction is wonderful making you want to listen to her every word. Every word that comes from her mouth sounds delicious! She always has this emotive touch to her every performance. You can listen to anyone with a lot of verbal calisthenics but you would often wonder what they are saying. Lea has got a very angelic yet powerful voice . She is above par excellence!
Vibrato master class! Everything is perfect in this performance, Lea has since gained an amazing maturity in interpreting this song that can only come with time. You'd think she couldn't have done it any better than when she performed this on Broadway but she has made this song richer and more beautiful. Ok, I'll stop fanboying now. 💖 Lea!!!
such a breathtaking duet from these two Disney singers. Im glued in hearing them and honestly I can't see any difference in their voices. It's just like hearing one voice!
Bringing these two beautiful voices together is truly a gift from the Heavens! Liz and Lea, I have listened to these two duets here so many times since 2008. You are both "the greatest musical theater vocalists in the world!" I just got shivers listening. We are SO LUCKY to be able to listen to your brilliance. Thank you. Elizabeth
I have the Original London Cast Recording and I did a comparison with 1989 Lea and 2005 Lea's voice, aside from minor timing differences she sounded exactly the same for the first part of this song, simply unbelievable!
OMG perfect singers. I can't stop to stand also and show respect to these two amazing real singers. Timeless. No exact words to express how amazed I am
They both are so great! Their voices blend so well together. They both seem to admire each other so much. My opinion, the best live version I've heard.
SOOOOO powerful! I can't begin to say how much I enjoyed seeing Miss Saigon when it was on Broadway. I was lucky to see both in the show several times... "I Still Believe", "Last Night of the World", and "Now That I've Seen Her (as sung by Liz Callaway) are my favorite songs in the show. To hear both singing "I Still Believe" 20 years later is truly amazing. As much as I loved them back in the 90's, the emotion expressed here is all that much greater. Just wonderful!!!
@tripleaxell Claire Moore was the first Ellen in London when "Miss Saigon" made its world premiere in the West End in 1989. Claire Moore has never been on Broadway. Liz Callaway was the first Broadway Ellen in 1991. And to come full circle, Ruthie Henshall, who was in the ensemble in the original London cast of "Miss Saigon" was the final Ellen when "Miss Saigon" closed in New York in 2001. Lea Salonga was again Kim, Will Chase was Chris and Luoyong Wang was the Engineer.
Two truely brilliant voices, I can certainly tell the two apart but I grew up with them. 'I still believe' is one of me and my best friend's favourite duets. I sing the part of Ellen xx
Both were Disney singers. Lea was the singing voice of Mulan and Jasmine (in Aladdin). Liz was the singing voice of Jasmine (in The Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves) and Kiara (in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride). Liz also sung as Anastasia and Odette (in the Swan Princess), neither of which are characters from Disney movies.
This is how a duet should be done. No over powering of each other's part and blend harmoniously instead! True artists indeed!!!
I'm not surprised why Salonga has been described as the greatest musical theater vocalist in the world!

Liz Callaway s voice is crystal so as Lea's great broadway singers. I love them both
Beautiful. Like no time had past between these two from the first Broadway year. Their voices so magical together.
Let's not forget that both Liz and Lea lent their voices to be the singing voices for Jasmine as well. I would have never expected a duet with these two together.
Liz Callaway and Lea Salonga were in the original Broadway cast of MISS SAIGON together.
I'm still wondering why lea didn't take the role of jasmine in the next movies of aladdin
@@kanna7013 She was really busy on Broadway at the time - she simply might not have had the time to do it.
@@simplystreeptacular she also had the 10th Anniversary of Les Mis in London
Mulan and Anastasia
Lea is also Princess Jasmine (Aladdin)
both lea and liz sang for Princess Jasmine (Aladdin)
Also Kiara and Odette.
Their voices are so similar it's eerie.
they really are. Love them both. I thought forever that it was Lea's voice who sang in Anastasia..
Liz Callaway!!! Wow!!! Her voice is so crisp and pitch perfect!

!0!
I was in the audience when this performance happened..it was even more amazing in person. She was pregnant with Nicole at the time.

@@meredithchandler73 yes she stayed and sang meadowlark
She entered with the song the story goes on..then I still believe and then she sang meadowlark after that.
Lea is really a great icon.
God I have never listened anything so beautiful. I'm in tears.
they both have magical voices
Yes initially they do sound similar, but if you hear them carefuly, you can see Liz has a higher tone and their vibratos are completely diferent. Lea is a Mezzo and Liz a Soprano.
Lea Salonga is a lyric soprano wi a range frae F3 tae C6.
Liz Callaway vocal range G3 - G#5

Miss Saigon and the two singing voices of Jasmine
Wow, this is what it means to take care of your voice. They sound impeccable!!!

Wow, unbelievable..both of them are magnificient. They way they sang the song gave me goosebump.
it's funny how after all these years, Lea can still sound the same as the Kim she portrayed when she was just 18....
wow.
I have the Original London Cast Recording and I did a comparison with 1989 Lea and 2005 Lea's voice, aside from minor timing differences she sounded exactly the same for the first part of this song, simply unbelievable!

Both of them provide the singing voice for Princess Jasmine!!
Lea in the original movie, Liz in the two sequels.
Amazing...two incredibly talented female artists. I do believe Liz Callaway was the voice of Disney's Anastasia and is on the movie soundtrack.
I'm getting a "SideShow" vibe from their voices XD they blend beautifully.
Ivan Castronuevo haha nice one
They are both good and amazing singers!!!love it...
The cristal clear beyond beautiful voices of broadway. I love them!!
Two truely brilliant voices, I can certainly tell the two apart but I grew up with them. 'I still believe' is one of me and my best friend's favourite duets. I sing the part of Ellen xx

Excellent! Love this duo.
It's 2021 and still watching this 2 duo....... classic
No doubt both very talented singers, but unpopular opinion: Lea's voice has never given me goosebumps and tears the way Liz's voice has.

This video gave me the chills! D: Two of my most favorite broadway singers in one performance is the BEST!
Instead of "I will hold you all night, I will make it alright.", Liz Callaway's version is "It's all over I'm here, there is nothing to fear." on 3:26
Marxs Escondo Liz sang the original lyrics.
2 of the best voices to EVER grace Broadway and Carnegie Hall!
omg, this is fantastic.. amazing performance... just amazing
they sound the same but Ms. Lea Salonga is the best here :)
Both were Disney singers. Lea was the singing voice of Mulan and Jasmine (in Aladdin).
