I have a friend whose mother is also a soubrette (an operatic term for a light soprano with a sweet, youthful timbre). She's in her 80's and still sounds like a young girl when she sings, just like Lea. It's one of the traits of a soubrette soprano. I told my friend his mom has a Disney princess voice. 🥰
Almost nobody would have known who she was by name, but recognized her immediately when she started singing. What an amazing gift for your daughter's wedding.
The bride is so lucky to 1)have a Dad who loved her so much to bring her childhood dreams come to reality 2)have the legend Lea Salonga perform on her wedding day.
I’ve followed Lea for her entire career. Saw her in the original Miss Saigon in London. Many years later, she starred in a revival of Flower Drum Song on Broadway and auctioned off her earrings for charity….and I bought them. I’ve never done anything like that ever, but for Lea, I fell. Her voice lights up the world.
Lea is my all time favorite. I was in senior high school in the Philippines when Miss Saigon debut in London. When I went to college, I was able to buy Miss Saigon CD and I memorized Miss Saigon by listening to it over and over. My dream was to finish my nursing so I could go to US and watch Miss Saigon - if it's still running and Lea still playing Kim. You're so lucky to watch her perform.
I’m a 20 year veteran correctional officer in the most violent prison in the state. In my line of work you have two choices: be tough as nails or go home. There’s no room to be soft, and yet, Lea just brought me to tears.
@@isabellajones7644 I’m sorry ma’am, but I’m very happily married and would never violate the trust of my wife or family. I wish you well but no thank you.

Everybody in the Broadway world knows Lea Salonga. She is an icon. A legend. It is so amazing to see this crowd get a performance of a lifetime. What a special way to celebrate this wedding! Amazing dad, how special this treat was!
I was lucky enough to see her in the original cast of Miss Saigon when it was in previews for Broadway. Just fabulous and that was the role that catapulted her into Broadway stardom.
I hardly knew who she was when I sat down in the eighth row @The Royal Theatre on Drury Lane in London. She was so young and starred opposite the legendary Jonathan Pryce. Then she sang and the world changed. The theatre was in rapt attention and for two and a half hours the only sound was the breath of the audience. I will never forget that night as long as I live. Lea Solange WAS Miss Saigon!
While accepting her Tony award for “Miss Saigon,”when she thanked Actors Equity, the audience laughed. It was because Actors Equity blocked her work visa with immigrantion.
Literally tying cause half those people probably don’t know her from anything aside from Disney. They probably didn’t even know it was her. Meanwhile my broke ass would probably never afford to hear her sing live.

If there's an award for Best Dad of the Year, this dad deserves this. Locating, affording, and securing THE Lea Salonga as a performer is not a feat every rich person can do. This dad scoured the planet to do this.

Booking both a Disney and a Broadway legend for a wedding means, daddy is a rich and a very powerful man. Lea Salonga is like Manny Pacquiao in singing! Proudly Filipino.❤
Man that dude is Dad of the year. What an awesome thing to do for your princess. He must have some real chops to get Lea Salonga to do a wedding gig. Lucky daughter, rock star dad!

As a Filipino, having Ms. Lea Salonga singing for this wonderful and love filled wedding is a very big deal for me. She’s really a very well known, celebrated and admired celebrity in my Country the Philippines.
u can be proud, but as a filipino american and i can imagine other races reading this, would get second hand embarrassment. this is the problem with lack of representation. you guys act so desperate and make being proud over something as little as this. lea is a filipino singer but she’s been a loved singer worldwide since forever too. SHE was in broadway and disney. THE way filipinos make it their entire personality to identify thru these celebrities just because we are the same nationality is cringe. this isn’t a song competition or world cup. mentioning our country like this just screams begging for any crumbs💀
i knew this whole comment section would just be full of mainland filipinos ready to tell everyone their proud 💀😭 like please 90% of the viewers on this video we’re prolly filipino, not other races. y’all want to associate our country with anyone that receives praises from other races/people. the validation is so weird. i hope theres a day were i can watch a video relating to a filipino celeb/ person without the comments acting like they saved the world. if u want to show our pride, have class. not swarming over any foreigners video that brings up our country.
Daming nagkakalat na mga pinoy. Nakakahiya. Mga taga ibang bansa di naman ganyan. Si MJ, mariah, whitney, ariana pag nag perform wala namang proud US citizen sa comment section. I would be also crying tears of joy if Lea Salonga sang for me live. Lea is one of the greatest female vocalists ever. So lucky to have this established Broadway and Disney legend at your wedding!
What’s really incredible about her performances in Mulan and Aladdin is that she made her singing voice sound like the main voice actresses’s. Unbelievably talented artist.

I'm trying to figure how this Dad made it possible for Lea to fly halfway round the globe, pull her from her busy job as judge & coach in a weekly TV show (The Voice, Philippines) plus she's a newspaper columnist in Manila. $$$$$

What a meaningful, wonderful idea to please his daughter on her wedding day. Lea Salonga did a superb job singing two songs that I also love. Dad Jim, you are a superman!! -Congratulations to the bride and groom.
As much as I have pride for Lea Salonga being such a world class talent representing my home country, I have to give most of the credits to the dad in this video. He went all the way to make his daughter's wedding extra special. It just shows how much he loves and cares for his baby.
I am not an emotional person or a cryer but Lea’s voice always gets me. The thing that sets her apart is the emotion and sincerity sh sings with. She tells the story of the song. Every time. You can see the bride is in awe ❤

How on earth can Lea Salonga, now over 50 years old, have such a young-looking face, beautiful teeth, and radiant smile? And she still sings with her very even, medium-rate vibrato on many of the longer notes of the songs. She is truly a magically gifted person and performer. We are blessed that she still chooses to perform and sing around the world.
It's genuinely something wonderful to see people enjoy Lea Solonga's voice all across the world. Gives many of us here in the Philippines pride that, despite our small nation and numerous controversies over the decades, we still have people from this little country that can have such a grand influence on the rest of the world.
I’m crying. Lea’s voice gives me goosebumps, it’s exquisite, it has not changed even as she ages. The dad’s love for his daughter is just beautiful. I wish I have a dad like him.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who cried over this video. She is very lucky to have a father like him but for sure, Jim Is also lucky to have her as a daughter.
That must have been a dream come true for such a huge Disney fan like her. To see and hear her favorite Disney songs sang right in front of her by no less than the legendary Disney singer herself, Ms. Lea Salonga. That was amazing. What a Dad who loves her daughter so much. Didn't realized that "A Whole New World" could get a different meaning, to different people. Here, I can see the Father's love for his daughter - from watching and taking care of his little girl up until she grows into the woman she is today. It makes me teary eyed as I'm currently pregnant with my first baby (14 weeks) and single mom. I can't wait to sing and dedicate this song to them as it resonates with me deeply. I can actually see myself doing everything with them: through the ups and downs, and the unconditional love I have for them. I can't wait to have my little bundle in my arms! It truly is a whole new world.

That's the difference between a pop or a balladeer and a rocker.. a rocker always throw a party after concert which could damage their vocal cord,a balladeer will just go back to the hotel and sleep after the show 😆
I had the privilege to watch her sing live at 54below in NYC, which probably holds less than the venue in this video. Such an intimate setting, and such an amazing experience. Lea a legendary artist.
This woman has been super famous. Since she was a teenager, it’s insane how humble and genuinely sweet she seems to be as a person definitely living out the character of the princesses she sang.
I had the pleasure of being around at this private waterfront wedding, not as a guest but as a mere spectator to this event. As a friend of the owners of Lowndes Grove in Charleston, I was at this sprawling 15 acre paradise overlooking the Ashley River to the west. I had the distinct honour of meeting Leah Salonga as I eavesdropped inside the function room and witnessed this very rare occasion. As a little girl growing up in Myrtle Beach in SC, I watched countless Disney films throughout my childhood. My all time favourite was Mulan. I was 3 years old in 1998 when I watched the film. My utmost dream was to be like Mulan and to the extent even play the part in acting plays in primary school but I never got the chance to fulfil that dream since I don't possess oriental features at all. Instead, I'm a white girl of Anglo-Saxon descent and being blonde deprived me even further of achieving my goal. I was so overjoyed in meeting Leah Salonga in the flesh and hearing her serenade the bride. Somehow, my lifelong dream became a reality' not by having to play the part itself but to have met the person who inspired so many young girls like me to pursue a cherished aspiration in using her voice to bridge the gap between peoples of different races and cultures.
I dont know why but I cried seeing how the bride's family loved the bride so much.....and Lea Salonga, you're a masterpiece. You made me feel proud as a Filipino.

Many years later, she starred in a revival of Flower Drum Song on Broadway and auctioned off her earrings for charity….and I bought them. I’ve never done anything like that ever, but for Lea, I fell. Her voice lights up the world.
I too saw Lea in the original cast of Miss Saigon in London with Jonathan Price. Fabulous!
Wow, that's amazing! You truly are a fan! God bless! 😊

Dang you got the earrings

I was lucky enough to see her in the original cast of Miss Saigon when it was in previews for Broadway. Just fabulous and that was the role that catapulted her into Broadway stardom.
Lea is wonderful. She killed the song of my favorite movie Mulan and I would love to have her in my wedding song
I hardly knew who she was when I sat down in the eighth row @The Royal Theatre on Drury Lane in
London.
