Hi RUclips,
In this video I am building Trumpters Curtiss P-40M Warhawk / Kittyhawk III in 1/32 scale. I finish the model as aircraft GLO FR817 Lady Godiva of SAAF 55Sqn.
In the video I use a mix of Mr Hobby, Tamiya, AK Interactive, Abteilung 502, Ammo by Mig, Vallejo and Microscale Industries products. I use AK Real Color and Mr Hobby paints to paint the main surfaces of the model and most of the weathering is done using my favorite Abteilung 502 oils.
All products used I paid for myself and there is no paid promotion in the video.
Please keep comments pleasant, constructive or helpful criticism is fine, but anything rude or abusive will be deleted. This is not my day-job, I model and make these videos for enjoyment and I am far from being a professional modeller.

Wow! After 47 years I thought I might try and do a model. Having seen this incredible amount of work I think I will just subscribe, watch and enjoy. Amazing, truly amazing. 🇦🇺👍🍺🍺
The paint job is flawless. It really looks like it was painted metal and not plastic. Unbelieveable.
Excellent build! I have always been fond of the P-40 even though it always seemed to be under appreciated.
Excellent build
That was a superb build, and the weathering was perfect, welldone and nothing like a large scale kit to work on.
Thank you
What a build (and builder!) I specially appreciate how thoughtful you are about describing your skills. Brilliant.
Thanks you, thanks for watching.
Really need a full video on how to assemble the hgw seatbelts. Im absolutely stumped by them
Details inside of details. Beautiful art.
formidable model , very realistic, congratulations, difficult to do better.bravo
Fantastic build! As usual.
Phenomenal build! I'm doing a Hurricane IIC 1/32 in desert scheme and you have given me some ideas on techniques to use (if I ever get back to it!)
Thank you, thanks for watching.
Awesome!... we have a P40 warbird here in NZ✈️🇳🇿
Nice work - please build Corsair next
Very nice build! Now I regret even more for my purchase of P-40B from Trumpeter, it's still sitting in box for past 15 years 🤔🤔
wow great channel, outstanding
Прекрасная работа. А разбитый самолет или другой аппарат сможете сделать? Разбитый имею ввиду авиа крушение, или взорванный танк или еще что то типо того.
Your great at modeling I'm 85 years old and restarting again. Also, I have Prostrate cancer. But I'm not let that stop me.
Don't misunderstand me I'm not feeling sorry for myself I've lived a long time and I'm still going along for a while yet!
Like you're modeling very much inspirational get the juices flowing love watching God bless your master model in my opinion
Bro what, are you even alive still
Great work! Love your videos. Keep them coming!
Thank you, thanks for watching.
How do you not instantly ruin the clear parts with the extra thin?
Is that a Speedmaster you’re wearing?
Excellent build
You came up in my feed a week or two ago and I quickly subbed, you've got great content, skills and present information well. Plus the length of your videos is about perfect for me. Keep up the great work!
Hi Steven, thank you for the sub. Im glad the video length is good for you. Its always a difficult one, it could go on forever!
The cockpit needs serious correction. As Brett Green said "The cockpit is really poor. I find it astonishing that Trumpeter has once again repeated their error of a flat cockpit floor, while the real floor was the curved top profile of the upper wing. The flat floor compounds errors, resulting in sidewalls, the pilot’s seat and the rear bulkhead all noticeably lacking in height.".
The fact that the rondels turned out less than perfect actually made this build truly more realistic. The guys would hand paint them anyways so this method using the circuit and the masking looks so much more authentic.
3:51 I love how you Brits across the pond say “Al-U-Minium”. You guys make anything sound a bit more classy! 👌 🫖 🇬🇧
Another great pronunciation is “schedule”. Shed-dule, or something like that. We are used to hearing sked-ule.
@@asdf9890 Yes, quite. Quite so, old boy.
As a brit, its quite funny seeing people comment stuff like this, innit mate?
@@MTAviation123 Would you like to go for a ride in my Jag-U-ar?
Yes. Ill make sure i bring plenty of bottol'o'wa'ers too guvnor
Amazing job, excellent focus on details and lots of tips throughout. This is in my stash so I've picked up quite a few ideas from this build which I will certainly incorporate into mine, so thanks for that.
Thank you Robbo. Thanks for watching. Good luck with the build!
@@ScaleModelShed 👌✈️🇨🇱 gran video
I've always been a P-40 fan. This is great work THanks!
yes, it is a great plane
Just as your previous builds, the result is phenomenal ! Probably one of the best p40 builds I've seen. Keep up the great work, cheers👍
The Brasilian Air force have 65 units in 1946.
Thais is beautful airplane i Very like.
Please facture EMB-312 TOUCAN.
Thanks
Fantastic work as always. A quick question: I noticed that the marking stencils were a bit off (roundels a bit oblong and not perfectly round). Is that a limitation of the cricut machine or deliberate choice?
looks like the placement of the stencil is off rather than the machine, I use a Cricut Maker and it cuts shapes very accurately
Lets be real, IRL these were not perfect circles, these do look a bit more accurate for a plane that is quickly painted to be sent to combat as fast as possible
Idk, I might just be liking the style
Hi. TBH I think it is a limitation of the Circuit Joy (the small one), it seemed to have a bit of trouble with perfect circles on the masking paper. I have ordered some Oramask 810 stencil film to try., it should cope better. Having said that, as Nomad Prod. says, I really wasn't too concerned, as it turned out, I kind of liked the imperfection! I did some minor corrections if they were too bad. Thanks for watching.
@@ScaleModelShed Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. It was mere curiosity more than anything. Your builds always come out fantastic.
Nag nag nag.
Мене більше вражає як точно підібрані кольори,супер майстер з великої літери ,дуже приємно дивитись на зборку моделі 1-32.🥇
Great video! And, ok, I admit I'm OC and anal retentive about certain things. My only problem with this build are the stenciled roundrels. At this scale, any asymmetry, bleed under, wrinkled masks, etc. just jump off the model at me. As with the formation light fix (great recovery, btw), I think i would have used aftermarket decals for the roundrels and lettering as much as possible. Less expensive than a Cricket. Yeah, I'm a cheapskate, too. My father called it being frugal. But, the video was jammed full of great techniques, especially for handling photo etch, cloth seatbelts, and weathering.
I've subscribed so I can see more of this builder's skill. Thanks! Let the criticism of my comments begin!
I am still admiring your airbrushing techniques, add to that the detailing and weathering. Excellent work!
Thank you.
awesome build mate!
Hi Scale Hanger 182. Thank you and thanks for watching.
Another great build, these finished kits look like you could hop in them and fly them away. Excellent work as always! Subscribed!
Thank you!
I like the simple way you explain your procedures and decisions. The camera work is excellent, some of the best on these modelling channels. Keep it up! Thank you from Malta.
Scale Model shed your utube videos are awesome my friend
Зеркала заднього огляду набуло,????
As to the Gun Barrels you opened, what is shown is an outer barrel shroud for the M-3, .50-Caliber machine-gun. What I do is open the hole as you did, paint the shroud gun-metal gray then insert a silver tube to emulate the guns barrel which were chromed.
Hi, good call! I will look at doing that next time round! Many thanks. Andy.
@@ScaleModelShed cool beans, great job on the model.
She a looker that one, would definitely get centre stage on my shelf. Done an excellent job. Thanks for sharing
Fantastic work, congratulations ...
The only flaw is the painted decals, too imprecise to match the quality of your work.
Unfortunately they are evident precisely because everything else is fantastic ...👍👍👋
Thank you, your probably right there, better stencils next time!! Thanks, Andy.
Glad to see some one actually do the props from a sandy, desert theatre correctly. The spinning props are basically sand blasted along the leading edge! 3 thumbs up!!
I don’t really think the desert is as sandy and dusty as people make it out to be.
I think you should look at some wartime photos... Instead of what your perception of something maybe
Hi, I built the P-40N kit by Trumpeter , the canopy was a poor fit, the rest was good though, nice job!
Brilliant video my friend, I've just got back into modeling the last time I built a model I was 14yrs old I'm retired now and I'm 55 yrs old but I've bought 3 kits to get me started with photo etch , HMS Belfast 1/600 , Bristol Beaufort 1/72 and the Boulton Paul Defiant also 1/72 I've just purchased this evening Tamiya HMS King George V so I'm looking forward to getting that one 1/350 scale
Easier to leave HGW buckles on fret to thread belts through.VMS flex 5. goes off quick(especially black variety) if you mix with a standard thin CA get almost same behaviour but lasts for ages on shelf.Wicked cockpit for trumpeter kit, looks almost ZM quality with a little finesse, pukka workmanship.
Thanks for the video! I'm getting back into modeling after a twenty four year hiatus. The P40 is my favorite WWII plane and I am looking forward to building mine. I would like to know what type and name of the metal clamps you used on the tail section of your warhawk? Also where I can buy them? Thanks again for this video.
The only thing is that the fuselage roundels look a bit off. And didn't the P-40M carry a different canopy? I don't know if the Commonwealth version was different from the US ones. Otherwise excellent build.
Man, I'm not really an aircraft modeler but man your work is absolutely amazing. It makes me want to get a few aircraft and give it a go. Being a warship modeler I think I have a good chance to accomplish something that is decent. Your work is stunning. Thank you for sharing and giving some inspiration.
amazing ! One technical question, didn't you have any mixing issue using both sepia and dust wash with oil paint ?I'm starting a 1/48 P40 too and I hesitated between insisting on dust wash but still having the effect of a dark wash to provide deeper effect. thx!
Nice works - you build a model Masterpiece here... big LIKE and instant subscribing your interesting channel - Thank You !!!
I came .. I saw .. I was inspired.. I subscribed.. the first of many I’ll be watching.. best build and well explained … weathering as you go is very interesting.. so many leave it to the last thing to do.. congrats 🎉 cheers Steve .. PS .. which airbrush are you using?
That was a fantastic build. Thank you for posting.
If I may point out an error, I noticed the centre of the roundels were painted, flat red.
In the SAAF markings, the RAF red was replaced with orange, as per the orange in the south Africa flag at the time.
I thought the decals looked like they had orange? Depends on what my screen puts out correctly.
Lovely looking P-40...lf it was a South African AF machine, surely the centre disc of the roundels would have been orange instead of the red ?
The cockpit floor is the top of the wing. Trumpy's P40s all have this basic error. A no research model build. Very disappointing.
Super! Great model! I really liked the painting, traces of wear and work. But your printer could not cope with the circles, I cut them out with a simple dividers with a blade from Tamiya.
Hi. You're right, Im still experimenting with the Circuit. Ive ordered some Oramask 810 stencil film, which should work much better than the masking paper. Thanks for watching.
Very impressive build. The kit has an error though - the M variant had a small opening window on the port side front screen assembly, same as the later N models. That, along with the longer fuselage, are the two main visual differences between the E and M models.
Great job!! You guys from RUclips just showed a new level of model creation. BUT for some reason I want you to be able to somehow imitate the photoresliticity of the models so that they look like real planes. At the moment, it immediately catches the eye that these are models. Just considering your abilities, how much effort has been invested, isn't it logical to make another revolution?
It may not have been the best plane of WW2 but I like the Warhawk, it just looks tough & strong, but then, I also prefer the Hurricane to the Spitfire, so what do I know.😜 Beautiful result btw.
Thanks Grant, the Hurricane is a gem!
Why are undersides grey instead of standard Azure Blue? Trumpeter definitely messed up shape of the canopy, nothing like P-40.
After watching a number of your videos I would like to say that you have mad skills, but that is not true. Rather you literally have insane skills, or perhaps even obsessive compulsive skills. In any case you have thousands of dollars in finishing products.
Beautiful work!!! And your paint work really brings the kit to life. I have been building model kits sence i was a kid and I still finding it amazing the outstanding work some modeler do. You just got another subscriber.
Thank you, and thanks for the sub!
Looks stunning. The paintwork shows your artistic skills. Did the rounders not come as stencils? I heard lots of folk saying how difficult they are to paint due to paint bleed and mask materials not being flexible enough. How did you find it, I’m not brave enough yet. Great vid though, looking forwards to more.
Amazing video as always!
I have a question, does the dremel rotary tool is safe for scale models ?
As I know its rpm are very high
It's safe for the plastic?
Super model 2023👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀🥇🥂❄️❄️🇺🇦
Great vid!! The P40 is often viewed as a pre-war obsolete design and was outclassed by later pursuit designs. This was hardly the case. With its huge wing and tail surfaces, along with light wing loading, the P40 was the most maneuverable American design throughout the war. It was rugged, had no vices and was unmatched in a dive--only the giant P47 was close. When it was in design, high-altitude interdiction was not included, therefore it did not have proper turbo supercharging for high altitude work. Saburo Sakai himself said the only American aircraft he feared, when properly handled by the pilot, was the P40.
Thanks Ron, really interesting read!
@@ScaleModelShed Ren - not Ron.
This is the finest model video I have ever seen. I am a many blue-ribbon modeler in trains. Thank you so much for this oasis from a crazy world.
Could do without the music
Master skill checked by the only one place - painting yellow OVER white
Call my crazy but isn't black lines easier than doing all that white filler?
well done indeed... one of my favorite WWII Aircraft as well as the theatre of the war it helped to win and turn the tide of WW II
I feel like I've gotten to know your air compressor intimately.... 😘
Doubled your subs in 11 months. I can see why. Great build and thanks. 👍🙂
You blew it when you tried to paint the roundels, decals would have been a better idea, also your gauges have no glass in them. amateur.
At 0.20 What is the mark just below the canopy rail ? Is it a defect in the plastic ?
If you don't have a folding tool for photo etch, perhaps a credit card would help to get a straight fold?
Looks like a quality air brush- if I can ask which do you use ?
Great. But the glass of the canopy could still use some aging, it looks too new
I'm going to start the P-40N by trumpeter soon. Can you tell me what the paint number for the AK real colors US interior green is. From pictures the AK website it looks horrible and nothing like the GCZ primer from the Curtis's factory. Thanks and love this build that you did.
Thanks jerry, you probably want RC262 although I think I used RC231 field green. Thanks for watching. Andy
All the Trumpeter's in 1/32 of the P-40 with the exception of the E & F short tail version, fail to represent the P-40 faithfully, they all the represent the fairings for the pushrods controls on the tail section they are overlooked on all the variants up to the N variant, the Hasegawa model kits are more precise on this detail, therefore the Hasegawa kits are superior.
correction: all the Trumpeter's P-40s up to the N variant fail to represent the fairings for the control pushrods on the tail sections, they are not present.
I have several questions regarding your cricut joy. Im not using tamiya masking paper, I'm using "tisket" paper, clear masking paper, basically the same thing I assume. What setting do you use to stop it cutting deep into the cutting matt as I cant seem to find one that works? Also goes without saying TOP BUILD MATE!!
Hi, I haven't needed to use mine for a while now, but I remember there is a pressure setting?
@@ScaleModelShed yeah everything i try just bloody cuts through. Im gonna try the tamiya tape. Might work.
Great work
Brother from over the pond
I think your in the UK
I am in Mass
Where specifically would you apply the dusty oils?🤔
That's the right seat pan, the only thing missing is the leather seat cushion. My grandfather flew one in WWII in the early 40s for the USAAF, I have pictures of his plane and the cockpit that he took while over seas.
I believe the parachute becomes the seat cushion. The ground crew may have thrown one in for their use.
What is the point of doing this, why waste time when you could be earning money
What a nice job. The detailing is awesome. This is the 3rd videos I've watched of yours...again, great job! Thank you for posting and waiting on your next build! Going to watch your other past videos. I've enjoyed them.
Thank you Cory, Thanks for watching.
Great video. I learn a lot from you. What is the blue tool you use to bend PE?
Good job, why was the rear iron sight offcenter then the front site entered? I'm trying to think of a circumstance in which it would make sense to make the pilot press his head against the glass on the right side to look down the sights lol. since the 50cals are evenly distributed on the wings and converge at a fixed place in front of the plane those sites should be 100% centred. otherwise great work
Hi. Me and my Father had this exact conversation. I did some research and it seems that the iron sights were offset to the right in case of failure of the reflector sight (which is the same as the Spitfire's). The pilot would need to physically shift viewpoint to aim. Thanks for watching. Andy
Amaizing work..!! congratulation!!George from Argentina

Im about to make one for a sharkmouth group build.... this is showing me where i can bring this old revell kit. haha
just finished the video.... The Bar is set. I might reach half way on my first go with this type of model. haha Great Great work!
This is an awesome build of the Warhawk! Great job on the weathering, I love it! 👏👏👏
Thank you Roland. Thanks for watching
Would be interested to know if you ever sell the completed projects
This is Interesting I never knew we gave p40s to the RAF
Very interesting to see how you do your weathering and chipping without hairspray...Thanks for the vid...very nice!
Superb! Doing the video must take a lot of work too.
I think that you made this even better then plasmo if you know him
My only question is with the cockpit glass would it not be a lot more dirtier as it looks rather clean and clear, as I don't think you actually did anything to weather it.
Hi, good point, it could probably have done with some dust around the edges where I couldn't be cleaned. Thanks for watching. Andy
Just found you channel, great production and excellent work! Got a wild hair one day about 6 months ago reminiscing about my models I built as a kid. After a 40 year break, I’ve jumped back in pretty hardcore! On my 4th build, and first multi engine, a 1/72 B17.
Can I ask what that blue wand-thing you use to shape/bend photoetch is? Is that a dedicated tool or just a random handy object?
Hi, if you look up RP Toolz, it is one of their tools. Thanks. Andy
Excellent build, for some reason I only found your channel now. Will definitely return!
Great job always enjoy your videos ! may I ask what did you use for insulators on wires? ✌Canada✌
Hi, I used thin tube designed for modelling turnbuckles. Thanks. Andy
