In this video I'm building the Arma Hobby Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate (Frank). I will be using mainly Mr Hobby, Tamiya, VMS, Ammo by Mig and Abtielung 502 products.

Looks great. I like the weathering. It looks like they’ve given the Kamikaze pilot an older plane. I’ve not used the masking film before but I think I’ll have to add some to my kit. Thanks Andy.

The best thing on TV / PC this evening, I guess that aircraft was flown by their worst kamikaze pilot who kept bringing it back. Again, simple techniques that when you know....... are so obvious. Really enjoyed it !

Just a quick pointer, you've used Mitsubishi cockpit green when it should be the substantially lighter Nakajima green

Nice work on one the best looking Japanese planes of WW2. .l made the Hasegawa kit of this back in the 80's and still a good kit today, if you can find one !
BTW Ki.84's had 2 x 12.7mmm firing through the prop arc, and a 20mm cannon in each wing
Depends on version, some had 4x20mm, some had 2x20 in cowling and 2x30 in wings - intended for bomber interception

Great detailing in 1/72. I could easily mistake it for 1/48 scale.

Great job on such a tiny model!
I think you chose correctly to weather it hard like that. Kamikazes were probably pretty fresh, but would have not had cannons.

If I were the squadron CO and I had to select aircraft for one way missions, I'd keep the good ones and send out the heaps of junk. I think the weathering is appropriate.

I like the look. Only thing I'd change is that considering that Kamikaze was same as Seppuku, a ritual suicide, they'd have given a quick spray of green on the plane. So, green but the ratty chipping would still be visible through the thin paint over it. So would look a little fresher, but definitely they'd use used and at end of life planes.

i have to agree the weathering is over the top but its a great demonstration of superb weathering exercise! Coupled with a wartorn hangar vignette I think this model will look even better!
Can you please do an eurofighter? Revell has got some, and I think they look good.

A thought. You could have solved the wear vs realism problem by painting and weathering the model then applying the red stripes last. As those would have been painted on for the last mission it's possible that the whole plane wasn't painted, just the kamikaze stripes.

Awesome job on that, looks nicely beat up and worked. Those Ki-84s are good looking aircraft, a bit "muscular" like P-47s.

I didn't like the chips to the metal a little, and a little too much with weathering, but this is already a matter of taste.

Maybe it's a kamikaze that wasn't used. The reference material had to come from somewhere.

Hope you don’t mind one suggestion though. The yellow on Japanese planes is more of an orange yellow. Mr. Color C-58 is a matching color.
So I guess this pilot has flown multiple Kamikaze missions. Does this mean he's very good or very bad at his job?
Really impressive as always :) Question though, why would a Kamikaze pilot have a bomb? That suggests it's not intended to be a suicide mission.
Clearly to make more damage if the plane hits something.
@@JohnyG29 If that were the case the fuselage could be packed with RDX or another explosive. No need to make it detachable.
Google is your friend.. Its to cause more damage. Apart from bombs, they were loaded with extra fuel.
Kamikaze aircraft carried bombs. The Ki-115 was built solely as a kamikaze aircraft and it had a bomb crutch. Not sure if the bomb could be released in flight
@@chrismartin3197 I suppose then it's possible that the Ki-115 was a 'flying bomb' and the inclusion of the bomb was simply to increase the destructive power of the impact.. fair enough :)

I think the weathering is overdone. Should be cleaner at that scale.

Have you seen these aircraft in pictures? Some are worse than what the model looks like . this is 1945. Not 1943.
Honestly, the weathering is over done, the panel lining isn't the right tone for the model and calling the Hinomaru a roundel is a tad disrespectful... Other nations call those emblems a roundel, but to Japan it's the Hinomaru and it's revered as well as still in service.
Overall, you haven't considered the scale of your model and painted it appropriately.
