Favourite platformer is probably Megaman 3 or Celeste, those games have an absolutely insane soundtrack and are brutally hard but worth the pain of failing. They teach you perseverance lol Megaman 3 got me into action platformers in general
My favourite platform game is Sly Raccoon because it was my first ever game ive ever played and ps2 was my first console. Sly Cooper is always one of my favourite gameserie. 🦝
Not sure if it is the best I've ever played, but Rayman Legends on the Switch in co-op mode was probably my favourite platforming experience. Particularly the music levels where you time your movements to the beat. Wish there was a new 2D Rayman game coming.
This looks awesome! Hoping it gets a physical to add to the collection! My favorite platformer would have to be.... Donkey Kong Country on SNES... Keep up the great work guys! SEEYAAA
To this day, I still think the Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie is one of my favorite platform adventures. This game has some of those vibes.
What I like about the game first of all, and what is important, is to have your own artstyle, your own identity. In terms of gameplay, the hammer throw reminds me of Yoshi's Island, as does the collection of the heart within seconds, which is basically the same principle as in Yoshi with the timer that runs out as soon as Baby Mario is in danger. And otherwise you can see that the developers come from the 16-bit and Amiga era as far as the level design is concerned (also reminds me of Turrican). Above all, Chris Hülsbeck contributed the soundtrack.
@@RaptureMusicOfficial Hey Fabian, das ist schön zu hören :D Hoffe ihr hattet eine gute Zeit und Tiny Thor ist ein Erfolg. Tranlation: Hey Fabian, that's great to hear :D Hope you had a good time and Tiny Thor is a success.
Man, this looks phenomenal! The art style definitely reminds me of Owl Boy, but the platforming, as you mentioned, is very reminiscent of old school Donkey Kong Country, which I completely adore. Fantastic reviews! You lads sold me on this one. Many thanks!
This brings back great memories of SNES platformers. The addition of the hammer is intriguing! 🎉 This belongs in my platformer collection. I love that the developers have thoroughly tested this instead of rushing it and then patching it, which seems to be way too common these days. ❤
The jewels reminded me of Duck Tales right away and some of those extended platforming sections looked a lot like Guacamelee to me. Great to see how they take bits and pieces of the classics and put their own spin on them!
I loved that game on the Sega Genesis. The Blizzard of old was a fantastic developer. Edit: I forgot to mention that The Lost Vikings is available on Switch as part of the Blizzard Arcade Collection. I am not sure what differences there are between the version on that collection and the Genesis version though.
I love pixel art style games. My favourite platformer of all time is either SMB3 or SMW. Tiny Thor just brings me back to the early days of the 90’s back when I was a teenager playing SNES/Megadrive with my mates. With the sega Saturn and play station on the horizon. Ahh the memories.
My favorite platform adventure is Record of Lodoss War - Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth. It's got a similarly gorgeous art style that kinda makes it look like a 2D Sega Saturn game - the kind I used to be salivating over in gaming mags but that were ultimately left in Japan because Sega only wanted 3D games (which the Saturn wasn't good at) to be released in the west. Indie developers like this are the main reason why this is such a good era in gaming. The days when indie games were short throwaway experiences that served as a distraction between AAA games are long gone.
You can see how much passion went into every little detail of this game, from the movement to the beautiful graphics with a delicious pixel style to even the music. A must have for every platformer fan. And speaking of platformer: There are just too many good games out there to decide on my „favourite platformer“, so I instead list up some of the best platformer experience I ever had, hope that is ok: - Olli Olli World - Celeste - Hollow Knight - Crash Bandicoot 1 - 4 - A Hat in Time - Shovel Knight - Spyro Reignited Trilogy - Cuphead
Nice, this is a whole selection of different games all rolled into one. At one point jumping around the trees gave me flashbacks to Wizards and Warriors on the NES (bonus points to anyone that remembers that game)
Tiny Thor looks fantastic and I agree the art style reminds me of Owlboy. My favourite recent platformer has to be Kaze and the Wild Masks. It really scratched my Donkey Kong itch.
Wow, that is some of the loveliest 2D sprite work I’ve ever seen! I’m glad you boys mentioned Owlboy. That’s what I was thinking when I was watching this video. It reminds me of that, or the first Rayman, back before that series’ artstyle turned into some silly Flash animation style. There was also a Lemmings game by Psygnosis for the PS1 that’s brought to mind. Very 32-bit 2D, as you’ve said. I’ve got to play this sometime.
Just found your channel the other day after i bought i new switch and browsed for some gametips. I really like your approach on these! And yeah Tiny Thor looks awesome! Keep it going!
Favorite platformer (and one of my favorite games of all time) is the original NES Bionic Commando. Loved the gimmick arm and how well it was used throughout the game, making the precision platforming so rewarding by the end.
My name in Gaelic is Tormod, one that is used still in Norway, and means "Courage of the Thunder God(Thor)", so glad to live in an area that was once Viking raided.
This makes me want a SwitchUp special of your favourite art styles or visual themes for games. Not necessarily the best looking, but games that just go for a strong look, like this, and totally pull it off.
Hey guys, thanks for all you do. Much appreciated. Definitely feel it gets inspiration from many games of the past. It does really look fun and increasingly challenging, which is good to me! Much love yall.
I’ve had a weird obsession with Thor my whole life because I was born on Thorsday (Thursday) and grew up in the 90s so this is right up my alley, so excited.
I look forward to a new video from you guys everyday. Switchup is the best gaming review channel on RUclips IMO. 2D platformers are my favorite genre. I'd say the Ori games have stood out to me in terms of level design, progression and especially art style. This one looks like it stands out from the pack and it's on my list for sure.
I definitely will be getting this. The pixel art styles have grown on me. And the platformers are becoming my go to...I just don't have time for 100 + hours in an RPG. My favorite platformer is the Ori games. Story, art, soundtrack....all just perfect.
This looks great!!! One of my favorite platformers has been the Trine series....hav.really enjoyed the lush visuals, cool abilities and fun puzzle platforming.
Thanks guys! Been eyeballing this game for sure! Definitely right up my alley! I like the setting options you talk about, it will definitely add to replayability. It's also gonna work out great because I'm doing a hard run through Guacamelle 1&2 lol
Looks fun! Definitely gives me a nostalgic feel from the SNES days. I would say the Donkey Kong Country games would be my favorite platform adventure games. So many good memories.
My favorite platform adventure... oh man, there's so many that come to mind. If I had to name something recent, I found Marsupalami Hoobaventure to be delightful. While not quite reaching the highs of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, it immediately evoked memories of it. The game's biggest problem was how short it was (they've since patched more levels). Although, it could also be argued that it didn't overstay its welcome. Many of today's games don't even try (not to). Tiny Thor looks and sounds like it's a lot of fun! I see the resemblances you made to Owlboy. I was going to say it gives me Kid Chameleon vibes if you remember that game on the Genesis/MegaDrive.
Dont play many platformers but one I enjoyed waaaaaay back was Cool Spot. The game about the 7Up dot. Ahhh those 90's brand mascots... I've seen concept videos and development from this title for years. So happy it made it thru dev cycle and looking so polished. Excited to give it a go
This looks amazing. The dirt breaking bit near the end of the vid reminds me of Earthworm Jim 2, but level styles remind me a bit of Tiny Toon Adventures on Mega Drive. Looks like it has elements of all my favourites as a kid!
4:01 Sonic? The way this mechanic works is totally inspired by Yoshi’s Island with how much time you have to get baby Mario back (and collecting those little walking/hopping starts adds more seconds to the timer).
The graphics in this game are just beautiful and aesthetically pixel perfect, and love how it has a unique hammer mechanic. The developers have been constantly listening and replying to feedback on steam when it released the demo. They seem amazing. Would love this on Switch portable. Favourite platformer would probably be Jak and Daxter 1…it was the best and did everything in that game. Also, Braid is definitely something else that I can’t forget and stood out.
Thanks for this video. This one caught my eye in your new games video this week so I was stoked to get some more information before it releases! My favorite platformer has got to be Super Mario World. Just a lot of great memories of playing that one when I was a kid!
My favorite platform adventure is definitely one of my absolute favorites it's the one and only Shovel Knight!!! I have played through that game so many times on multiple platforms and I even got all the Amiibos!!! From the excellent soundtrack, the super fun gameplay, the creative boss fights, the way the levels look and thematically match each knight and the story creates an excellent package that made me fall in love with it.
It really reminds me of the Sega Genesis and the art reminds me of a cranked up version of Viking Child on Atari Lynx... Your right about jumping on the bees, it's so Donkey Kong Country! It really looks fun, good on the Devs. 👏🏼😁
I love how you guys work so well with developers and you get to check out these games that I would normally not even look at. This game looks awesome. As far as my favorite platformer that would have to be Donkey Kong tropical freeze.
My favorite platformer would have to be "It Takes Two" I have a great memory playing it together with one of my best friends. This game has a few cool features that I really dig. Hammer throwing, puzzles and going back after you beat the game for collecting items you missed or areas you didn't discover the first, second or even third time through.
My favourite platformer is, and always will be, Super Mario World on the SNES (or Switch Online of course). The gameplay hasn't aged a second, and is as good now as it was then. Absolute masterclass in game design by the big N!
That is some fine pixel art! It also looks really fast paced and interesting, I don't know if it'll be a day one buy but I'm definitely putting it on the list. As for my favorite platformer it's definitely the messenger.
This reminds me of the older, proper hard-as-balls RAYMAN games where you re-visit earlier the levels before with obtained powers (gold fist, hover glide) later on and free all of the Teensies etc. Would love to see how this compares to the oldskool 90s awesomeness which have my vote as some of the greatest and genuinely challenging platformers :D :D This looks great, sounds great and should be great to pass a few levels on the morning commute... thanks for adding YET another to the backlog list and another great video!
If I had to choose one platform title, it would probably be Ducktales on NES. It was the first platform game that I remember beating. I do remember it being difficult, but I was also like 6 when I finally beat it lol. Tiny Thor looks pretty cool though! Definitely like the art style and the Mjolnir mechanics.
My favorite platformer series in the last couple years was Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, but I’ve been playing through Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze lately and it’s been kicking my butt at times! (In a fun way!) This game definitely looks like it would be right up my alley
I love the look of this game! The adventure platformers I played the most were Earthworm Jim and Comix Zone on the Megadrive 😊 This takes me back to those great times 👍
This game looks amazing and has been on my wishlist since your video for things to look out for. Its art style and style of platforming reminds of an old game I used to play on my dad's PC called Claw. That was about a pirate cat. This looks like it has tight platforming and the hammer gameplay looks sick!
@@SwitchUpYt That’s good to hear the review was quite positive. The platformer I’ve been pulling hairs over recently has been the messenger after getting it on sale😂
Awesome video. Great review. I think I'll be grabbing this in the near future. Action platformer/ metroidvania are my absolute favorite to play and collect. Ive taken my collection to a whole new level since the switch has basically become the home for these types of games. I think currently im at 220 games physical and plenty of digital as well.. This gives off some FLYNN Son of Crimson vibes among other obvious similarities.
Oh this one is beautiful visually. In terms of switch platformers - I’d go for Yooka Layley and the Impossible Lair. So underrated and such a lovely 2D adventure. The fact you can challenge the impossible lair at any time is so cool
I just luv the pixel art (it even has this rotoscoped feel to it which is just a plus) and am super keen on jabbing this up on my Switch! As far as fav platformer 🤔 I don’t think I have “one” but my consistently favorite series would have to be “Shantae” ❤
This game looks absolutely amazing! i am definitely putting it on “Games to add to the collection” list. As for favorite platformer, Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps are in my top 3 for sure.
This game actually reminds me of a Sega CD classic called *"Flink"* it's one of the best looking 2D platformers of its time and was extremely unique. My favorite action platformer of all time though is "Metal Warriors" for the SNES, it was like a plaformer version of Gundam
Looks like a classic in the making. It's got all the platforming tropes, customization for different play styles, replayability, and it looks plenty of fun to boot.
Wow this looks great! Love the pixel art look, and the movement seems so fluid! Some of my favorite platformers were Super Meat Boy, Celeste, Kirby, and Rayman! Thank for the review
I would get this game on visuals alone, but I really appreciate the attention to detail and time the developers took to refine the game and get it just right. The Eshop can be littered with absolute garbage and this is a refreshing change. I find so many great games from your channel. Thank you guys for the hard work.
My favorite platformer is probably a newer one I have play called Grim Guardians. It is metroidvania style love the art, the levels, all the music and the gun of it. Plus a great story. Thanks you guys for always putting out great videos that are informative, and fun. Cheers
I've played a lot of pixel art platformers on the switch since I got it back in 2020. I have to say this game looks really really cool I would most definitely get this game.
This looks positively charming! I love that you guys help games like this step out from the crowd so we, who get easily lost in the eshop, know about them.
Seems like a cool light hearted game. The hammer bouncing off walls is what really interests me. My favorite platformer at the moment is hallow knight :)
Hope you guys are right about the 60fps! It seems like blessing nowadays to even have a pixel art game on the Switch run at a steady 60fps... so when there is one, I'm gonna scoop it up right away.

The Messenger is my favourite all time platformer. This reminds me of that game in some ways. I can't wait!!
Looks sweet! Reminds me a little visually of Sparkster on SNES, that was an excellent little platformer
Yeah it's very fun and pretty addictive if you enjoy a challenge! Mark
@@SwitchUpYt That’s good to hear the review was quite positive. The platformer I’ve been pulling hairs over recently has been the messenger after getting it on sale😂
Very cute artstyle, reminds me a bit of Astal or the Adventure of Lorax. Amazing to look at and fluent gameplay, these platformers never get old
Awesome video.
You guys are honestly the best and I watch all your videos. Keep it up
Oh this one is beautiful visually.
I like a precise platformer and the hammer is a fun addition. I can see me going for all the blue gems and red gems in each level.
I remember Fink - was a fun time! Mark
The game looks rad! Nice chunky art style.
All the vines remind me of the SNES lion king game. My God, that game was brutal.
Looks like a classic in the making. It's got all the platforming tropes, customization for different play styles, replayability, and it looks plenty of fun to boot.
Look like a Saturday morning cartoon from back in the day mixed with a sophisticated gameplay. Right up my street
My favourite platformer is classic sonic from the Mega Drive Era! This game looks really well done! Thanks for the video!
Wow this looks great! Love the pixel art look, and the movement seems so fluid! Some of my favorite platformers were Super Meat Boy, Celeste, Kirby, and Rayman! Thank for the review
The art on this is gorgeous!
I would get this game on visuals alone, but I really appreciate the attention to detail and time the developers took to refine the game and get it just right. The Eshop can be littered with absolute garbage and this is a refreshing change. I find so many great games from your channel. Thank you guys for the hard work.
It goes wayyy back to the early 90s, but Jazz Jack Rabbit was and remains my absolute favourite platformer. Hopefully Tiny Thor can steal the title 😊
