Since you are suggesting books here, I'd like to suggest one back to you, I hope you can find it in English, it is called "Tsar/King Radovan's treasure" it talks about a lot of stuff but also has a good part where it talks about women, and I think the writer nailed (pun intended he, was a ladies man all his life) that part perfectly.

My advice is to not depend on having a partner in life but to focus on yourself. And court someone who is worthy to court. And really get to know them and go through trying experiences together to truly see how one is like before rushing into marriage. Date, not have intercourse, with many people to truly know who you are compatible with. There really are good people out there. A lot of the time, it's two people who should have never married in the first place. Either way I hope people can find their happiness. Relationships are important. The problem with marrying the woman at or above your level is that women inherently need to look up to a man for something. If it is not money or status it has to at least be a sense of power. If a woman doesn't feel like she has something to look up to in a man it's very hard for her to respect him no matter what she says.

Most women make less money after their 30s than before, while most men are making more money after their 30s than before, and this includes those "hard working" female managers who supposedly love their job.
They dont age as well as men, they will want to focus on family/social side more, they want less stress, etc... and you will be expected to make up the loss in income, and if she divorces you after she has reduced her wages to have her balanced life, then you will be back to being with somebody below your level.
You may get lucky and she leaves you while you are making less money and you get some small alimony, but its still too rare to be a worthy stat and you are still at a loss of resources and out of the work game because you were likely slacking because you expected her to keep up her game forever.
I have seen too many guys who think they found that special woman and 5 years later found out it wasnt so, too late.

I tried it both ways... I was initially married 23 years to someone who earned one fifth of our combined family income but spent like she was earning 5x that amount. On top of that, she was unfaithful. Divorce was tough and unfair to me but absolutely necessary.

As a woman, I would give this advice to men regarding this issue: yes, hypergamy is a problem. Women going for 'Chad' and "Tyrone' as they say. And it is a rather good comparison, because these are age old primal instincts that new technology are messing with. I was engaged, and our wedding was going to be this month. We called it off two months ago. Recently broke up with my fiancé around 3 months ago. Was with her for 6 years. Been getting used to single life and now some girl who is about 10 years younger in work who is incredibly beautiful is really into me. I’m trying to watch this stuff and stay away but it’s too easy for me.
