Great Berbick quote, “I never use my mind that much because I know what psychology is all about, when you need it, it’s THERE.” 😂

This was Thomas 2nd WBC world title defence, coming from a 8th round KO victory over former WBA world HW champion Mike Weaver 9 months prior. Thomas was beside Larry Holmes and Tim Wither spoon regarded as the best HW boxer active (!).
While Trevor Berbick, a 7-1 underdog was a very sturdy and strong heavyweight, Pinklon Thomas was overall a better boxer, and yet he could not for some odd reason get past Berbick, who showed his strength, meanness and toughness was enough to steal the fight by a close UD (115-113 x2 & 116-113). Thomas did not let his hands go and did not use his good jab work!
Thomas would have one more shot at the world heavyweight title in 1987 against young-prime Mike Tyson and a showdown with Evader Holyfield in 1988 before career best days was past. Had two iconic fights against Riddick Bowe and Tommy Morrison in late 1990 and early 1991 respectively until final career moment came in 1992 when winning both inaugural minor titles of the
    IBO & WBF heavyweight titles!

He couldn't "knock the stuffing" out of any great boxers though.

@@generalwadehampton.2578 Pinklon thomas was a good boxer unfortunately him and mike tyson had the same problem Drugs why do people not understand you cant stay on top and expect win fights if you are not doing the right thing training wise. Tyson would only stop a few weeks before the fight in case he got tested. But it doesn't really matter anymore i believe you should go of what in the history books he mike got beat holyfield and buster

Significant at the time but really two alphabet "champions" with only a fragment of the title. Fantastic pre fight extras.

Had the winner of this fight known he would next fight a 20-year old phenom named "Iron" Mike Tyson, he would've dropped this fight. Tyson was not in the tournament at this time. He would be included in the tournament after Witherspoon beat Bruno, which was after this fight.

8:01 "a good judge always gets a winner (of the round)"
i disagree with this, and it's why so many bad scorecards happen.
if there is not a clear winner of the round, then it must be scored even ie 10-10.
if two fighters do nothing for the whole round, one guy flicks a jab out which misses, that doesn't give him a 10-9 round. it's still 10-10.
