What’s crazy to me is that back in this era, the experts called this fight boring and lackluster. This was a great fight. Loved both fighters.
TONY TUBBS was considered a "tough fighter" against everybody he fought, except for MIKE TYSON, where he was considered a "BUM" !!!! lol
Tyson only fought bums in the 80s.
@@DrLoverLover That means so did LARRY HOLMES
I would have loved to see Tyson fight Witherspoon, broad, Paige, Cooney, Weaver, McCall, bowe and Foreman. Seems like once Tyson got with king, he started ducking fighters like holyfield and lewis.
@@kriskalbfleisch5020 And why didnt RIDDICK BOWE ever fight WITHERSPOON, McHALL , BRUNO, MORRISON, MERCER, RUDDOCK, STEWART, MICHAEL GRANT, TUA, BRIGGS, FOREMAN, LEWIS, or TYSON, ????
@@kriskalbfleisch5020 Why didnt HOLYFIELD ever fight MORRISON, BRIGGS, , GOLOTA, WITHERSPOON, CARL WILLIAMS, TYRELL BIGGS, FRANK BRUNO, TONY TUBBS, TONY TUCKER, McCALL, DAVID TUA, or RAZOR RUDDOCK ???
Competitive fight between 2 skilled Heavyweights. They mentioned during the broadcast that Muhammad Ali had sparred with Witherspoon and other Heavyweights leading up to this fight, didn't know he was still getting in there in 1986.
Both Tubbs and Witherspoon sparred with Ali in the very late 70s and before Holmes/Ali. Not in 1986
Qui a gagné ?
Witherspoon by close decision. @@azleboug2938
Real Champions fought 15 rounds. Tubbs did have Fast Hands.
I always liked tony tubbs's style. For a big man he had fast and good foot work. His weight would let him down though but he had quality boxing skills and nobody can take it away from him as he became the WBA Heavyweight champion. many good fighter in the sport of Boxing has never become a World Champion.
He was a pure boxer or out fighter
He was a bum.
Definitely Tony Tubbs was a great fighter, outside of Mike Tyson Tubbs had the ability to make any fighter look awkward.
@@threerings1345 naah he wasn't a bum he was just undisciplined
@@threerings1345 He was a very good out boxer but lacked in motivation and sometimes had too punds.
This fight is incredible. Good fight man. Two legends
Tubbs was always super slick
witherspoon beat tha activator out of tubs hair lol!!
@@antoineemory6772 LMFAOOOO 😂🤣
That's called Jheri-Curl
Despite Witherspoon being one of my favourite HW fighters, Tubbs always has my respect for being agile, quick, tough, and a great boxing IQ - he was the 80's version of Andy Ruiz Jr.
Thank you for your kind words! Come join my new RUclips channel lots of old school boxing content coming!
Lol
Andy Ruiz fights nothing like Tubbs not even close
Read that this fight gets criticised a lot and it's not pretty but is still entertaining and competitive for the most part. I've seen much worse.
Lots of infighting in this match, and infighting can be either very exciting or very boring depending on your preference. But overall I thought it was fairly action packed.
@@SouthbaySpeaks tyson vs smith was super boring
Thank you - brilliant upload. If possible can you upload Bramble v Mancini 2 hbo broadcast please?
Was that Jimmy Ellis in Tubbs' corner?
Yes sir Judge was in Tony's corner he was always in mine too...The Ville Baby 4 Heavyweight Champion from that little City.can you name them?
Do you have Bonecrusher vs. Tony Tubbs? Would love to see that fight.
My Trainer and Friend My Homeboy And former Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Ellis in Tony Tubbs Corner..Tony Tubbs is fast like Dokes but I love the boys From Cinncy but Spooner I love too...I hope best man wins.
Tubbs was very underrated!!
Underrated fight two of the best savoy fighters
Thank you for your kind words! Come join my new RUclips channel lots of old school boxing content coming!
This entire event was a mess. It started with both fighters being woefully out of shape, Merchant stating that Tubbs had the quickest hands of a big man since Ali (e.g., prime Holmes and Dokes had quicker hands), the fight itself was dreadful, and the judge's decision (e.g., Witherspoon won by a comfortable margin) was typical of decisions cast by judges in heavyweight title fights since the mid 70's.
This was a great, back and forth heavyweight fight. C'mon man!
I love negative comments pertaining to this era like this. And then I actually watch the fights and they were more often than not, better HW title fights than th eras prior, and current. For whatever reason thus era of HWs was just put under a skewed light. I just watched Pinklon Thomas vs Tim Witherspoon.. One of the most stunning displays of HW BOXING I've ever seen. A complete farcry from what critics made the era out to be.
Tony Tubbs having the most hand speed after Ali whilst it may not be true it was not far fetched as he did have very fast hands. I don't see it as a "mess" rather an opinion
22:10 start
.
Tony Tubbs was like Michael Dokes, a waste of great talent.
That was a good fight people don't realize those inside short body shots will paralyze a regular person
I trained Tubbs when he grew up in Cincinnati. Always had a weight problem.
Often ate other boxers lunches and threatened to knock out anyone who complained.
I once told him, "TNT means Tony's Not Training." He'd come to training eating donuts and pastries.
Nice video, but how do you cut off Chef? Isn't it enough he was brainwashed? 😏
Seeing that crook Don King sickens me
Stop kissing tyson.
Tim Witherspoon was underrated, I would’ve loved to see him and tyson, if the scumbag don king didn’t blacklist him
it was witherspoon who got knocked out by smith in the 1st round otherwise he would have faced Tyson
@@theinformationbomber7102 he took a dive in that fight, to get free from don king.
@@Jumpman90 naah he tried but couldn't beat him
If he wanted to take a dive then he would not have gotten up from the 1st knock down
Smith could bang hard and Tim thought he could outbox him
Tim got ko'd hard

@@Jumpman90 I don't think so
AND IN THIS CORNER, WEIGHING 244 LBS, WEARING THE “EXTRA LARGE” WHITE TRUNKS, IS TONY TUBBS,,,
😂😂🤣
@@theinformationbomber7102Tubbs was better than Douglas
@@Mike_Williams32 Douglas in shape was a formidable opponent
@@theinformationbomber7102Was good but not a phenom.
Never had great chin.
Tubbs had better skills and hand speed.
At Tokyo, said Rooney, also Carl Williams could won Tyson.
@@theinformationbomber7102Watch Tyson in 1986, he almost get hit.
In that shape with more experience Tyson could ko any ATG in history.
I was 12 when this fight happened - which must have been not long after Spinks's first win over Larry Holmes - and even though I used to know the history of the heavyweight division pretty thoroughly, I can't actually recall who won this fight (which makes watching re-runs all the more enjoyable).
But I can see, early, that Witherspoon is just stalking Tubbs, from the opening bell. Tim Witherspoon was one of the harder punchers of that era, it's a shame that he kind of went the way that Riddick Bowe went a decade later.
Considering that Mike Tyson fought Tony Tubbs just 2 years later, it's plain to see that Tubbs had nothing for Tyson. He never stood a chance!!
Tim Witherspoon, on the other hand, could have presented a real problem for Mike Tyson ... which is probably why Tyson never faced him.
Tyson's early career has been much lauded and applauded by his biggest fans, but in retrospect, who did he really beat during those years that was all that impressive? His win over a 38-year old Larry Holmes, who had been inactive for 2 years, was more disgraceful than it was impressive. And real boxing fans, at the time, knew that Michael Spinks stood absolutely no chance against Tyson either - even though that fight was ridiculously billed as "The Superfight!" The following year he took care of Frank Bruno and Carl Williams before a capable boxer, like Buster Douglas, fought the fight of his life and exposed the weaknesses that astute boxing fans always knew Tyson had, in Tokyo in February of 1990.
Tyson was UNTOUCHABLE FROM 86-90. WITHERSPOON,lost his shot at Tyson. When he got blitzzed in 1 by Bonecrusher Smith. Who hugged Tyson. For 12 rounds.
@Exar You must be out your mind.
@@juangarcia-ml1by Witherspoon took a dive in that fight, which was very easy to see. Witherspoon wanted to get away from Don 🤴, and that's why he took a dive in the second fight with Smith. Smith was good, but Witherspoon beat the turkey stuffing out of him the first time, outclassing him. C'mon man!
@Exar Yes and Bonecrusher stunned Tyson bad in the last round ,if it was a 15rdr Bonecrusher wouldve laid Tyson out cold.
Douglas won only cause Tyson was completely unprepared.
Tony Tubbs was also known as tubby Tony.
What you so mad about a black eye for I'm the champ the world champion it's nothing that's mahmammad
Tyson wouldve killed witherspoon
Witherspoon wanted no parts of Tyson.

Not a very good heavyweight championship fight. Look like two old men grinding it out. Ray Leonard exaggerated this fight.
