This was the first time a lot of us heard the name “Razor Ruddock.” This was when he was known primarily as a boxer and before he perfected his “smash.” Interesting seeing him in boxer mode: a good jab, decent movement and footwork for a big guy. Once he got the reputation of being a power puncher, he abandoned this part of his game.

Weird hearing the commentator at the start saying ‘Rudduck is not a power puncher but has the best jab in the division”.. Rudduck would later totally abandon his jab and soly become a 1 punch ko artist.. he literally threw 5-6 jabs in his combined 19 rounds with Tyson. If Rudduck kept to learning his boxing fundamentals and used his jab to set up power punch he could of been a real force in the division. He instead become a power puncher brawler with very limited boxing ability!

Harold Ledermen scored it 98-92 for Ruddock? I'll never respect that man's scorecards again lol Weaver landed several pounding jabs to Ruddock's head, snapping it back, and blocked a lot of Ruddock's shots. In round 4 we saw the famous Ruddock left hook, which clearly got Weaver's attention: it's why Weaver stopped going in for the kill after shaking Ruddock since he/Weaver was afraid to get hit again by that left hook (he covered up big time).
    Weaver: 2, 3, 4, 8.
    Ruddock: 7, 10.
Draw: 1 (no one did enough to win)
Tossup: 9 (Ruddock's flurry at the end, he connected on 3 shots, may have given him the round but Weaver was winning it before that.)
Rounds 5&6: I have trouble giving these to Ruddock since he barely did anything those rounds. The problem is, Weaver certainly did nothing to win those rounds either. So I'd vote them either a draw or for Ruddock.

Ruddock has never had great skills, especially defensive. Certainly when he fell in love with the Smash his abilities diminished because he was constantly and predictably looking for a knockout with his left hand. Also in the video above he had a good jab, which he then almost never used, good footwork, for that Weaver, who was slow on his feet, struggles to get close, but doesn't move his head or dodge his punches, that means having good skills.

Ruddock was a overrated boxer. He pretty much only had that great left hook. He didn´t use his jab and didn´t have much of a defence either.

I gotta say, I was really impressed with Ruddock's jab in this fight. It was QUICK and had an excellent snap. But he didn't know how to use it well enough. AND, Ruddock kept getting caught with counters, particular slow/heavy jabs from Weaver.
But I've heard from someone that eventually Ruddock fell so in love with his left hook that he gave up on the idea of being a boxer puncher and went more the swarmer or slugger route.

@Z Boy very true but consider that Mike Tyson after the abandonment of Rooney did not use the peak a boo as before, above all in defensive ambit, of angles of attack and head-body combinations. He was struck many times by Ruddock because he hardly ever moved his head and dodged very little, he remarked, in their first encounter how use the combinations defeated him, even if the fight by Richard Steele was interrupted prematurely.

@Z Boy when Tyson fought against Lewis he had been fake for more than 5 years. Ruddock didn't keep Tyson away, but he fucked up to swap the short distance. Ruddock was technically very limited, which cannot be said of Lewis, in fact he defeated him in two rounds.
