When you are doing something complex for the first time, or even your not doing it regularly, mistakes happen…
It is part of life.
It's the little things guys !
Katie you are rare . You look great going and coming 😂
Holy ponderosa that pine is HUGE! Looked like you both were tiny kids trying to chop that it was so big!! It will make some fantastic mill wood though!! And Greg got to use his new toy to haul it! The windows look amazing, and I know how nerve wracking it is to break one, but Katie it’s good that your fear from that didn’t stop you from installing the next one. Also, I’m sorry about the loss of your birds to a predator. Love you guys. ❤️
from Besil
Hello from Texas...
That's one big tree you took down. watching from CT.
Watching from England. Enjoying watching as you progress ❤️🏴
Greg, you said it again! The saying goes "measure it twice, cut it once". Glad to see you guys are warming up inside with nearly all the windows installed. keep up the good work.
Good evening, looking great from Steve st.Stephen N.B Canada
when you are driving up hill towing something like that.. put some weight in your bucket by picking up some dirt... keep your front end heavy and you should be okay getting up the hill.
hey bud ! shes a hard worker/keeper
Watching from northern Michigan. Love the chickens!
I busted a custom pane walking out of the glass shop, Hate the stuff, Keep the Faith Kentucky fan
That tree felling placement was spot on👍that ain't easy now getting logs out of all the mud😞that creates a whole new set of issues you'll all persevere have a great weekend you two 😁✌
Well it seems that we're in a one step forward and two steps back mode ..... I see that even with the frustration there's a smile.. Soooo take another chill pill and keep pushing forward. You'll get your expert badge when you cross the finish line.
Everything looks great! So sorry about your birds. Keep your spirits up, you've come so far! xoxo
You both continue to amaze me. Your perservence through adversity is inspiring. Love you soo soo much.
Watching from North Battleford Saskatchewan Canada 🇨🇦
What a pain those windows were but you did it! It’s a shame you lost those birds, so sad. That beetle kill pine looks like it’s going to be some beautiful wood, it’s definitely one of my favorites!
Way cool aerial shot of the tree felling. Enjoying your efforts from VA.
That window breaking was a bit annoying but glad that you got the downstairs finished, I am watching you from near Heathrow airport in England
Watching from Belgium, I love the pioneer spirit you guys have.
I sense a less than happy household! Keep going.......from NSW, Australia.
Chilliwack, when chopping big wood always do the perimeter and work ur way. To center
With every job there will be some issues. You can handle this. Hang in there. Be kind to each other.
Windows 🪟 looks good that a big pine tree keep warm and safe GOD BLESS.
Such a cliffhanger!
I love watching you both work! Great team work and love for each other. Sorry about your two feathered babies …. You love them al equal, they do you too , they watch you work…. A bummer with the glass, however, bearing in mi d how you worked the night before, do did great! You are both tired, cannot wait to work inside in the warm , which will happen soon! Having got more wood , you will have enough for yr new wood burner in your new house.Keep smiling look how far you have both got too. Watched every one ! Xxx
Suction cups work great when dealing/handling windows. Enjoying the channel. Tks for sharing.
You guys are awesome! can't wait to see the end results! Keep it up! Winter is here!!!
the drone shots just look great !!
Throw a few of the big rounds in the loadeer bucket to keep the frount wheels down when towing a heavy log.
Wow , there is so much love in your household , I love it ! What a team !
Houston, Texas love this sort of thing !
looking good keep up the good work i'm watching from quebec
Been enjoying your journey. Like the music you use with your editing. Both of you are hard workers and are going to have great memories. Looking forward to new videos of your journey.
I have come over from MDF - will enjoy following your build
What a bummer about the window but it sounds like you are going to get some help too. Great work it's been fun watching your channel.
Great work both, I hope you both are keeping safe & warm from all the bad weather. If the British weather is anything to go by, your weather will be 10 times as bad. and if you hadn`t guessed I m in the UK. and it`s 10 to 6 in the Evening, and i am watching a hour after you posted this video.
Hey check you out, finally learned how to put a window in, congratulation sure is better when everything goes right 😊👍
Great video Greg and Katie
Good work you guys , and a good builders team , thank you for such nice videos, Robert in Australia
So sorry about the birds. Sure is nice to be cozy with the new window! Looks great! We need to get some new ones in our farmhouse but it won’t be this year now that it’s cold and the snow is flying! -Erinn
Too bad about the window, just found your channel, very entertaining, watching from SF- BayArea- Marin county, have a good evening
Nice Chix. Sorry you lost two. Too bad about the window. Glad you got the other one installed. Looks good. Nice log. Should make some nice lumber there. Thanks for sharing.
The republic of Texas. I've done many late night operations, and had a few accidents along the way.
The important message is not to have a debilitating disaster, and it seemed to happen while I was tired or over extended-especially mentality. Which reminds me-back in shop to finish a present. ; )
I love watching your videos, you are both very hard workers and building your for ever house, not just playing around throwing something together so you can make a RUclips video. I like the tractor you got and will get a lot of use out of it, not just letting it sit around because you wanted a new toy like some other RUclips channels. I hope that you both stay the same nice sweet couple and don’t start focusing the the camera on your partner’s body parts to get perverts watching just for more viewers. Your home is going to be beautiful and a beautiful place to live.
.....Great video....Canadian Dave living in Bangkok Thailand....
Got in despair for you in the first news and then a relief when you shared your good news...being in a construction is never easy...specially when you when someone working for you and doing things wrong and badly done.😉
Man, I know that sound...I feel your pane...lol The windows are looking good, thankfully you can make adjustments as you go. Kioti is a little power shy looks like, but ya'll I'm sure will get firewood. Love ya'll ❤
From southern California mountains ,I did the same thing with a big window once
I hope you guys are doing ok. Katie looks exhausted and fed up. Be well friends!
We genuinely felt the frustration of the window. We just got ours done before the snow.
Congrats on the huge window! That tractor looks fun. Maybe you need a tool to grab those logs?
Yes, there are so many attachments we want to get 😆 but we are able to pull stuff once we take the backhoe off, so that'll be coming up in a later video I think
England ( south )
Try splitting the tree rings you've cut from the outer edge working around it and into the centres, it should split alot easier then.
That's how I use to get them split down into usable sizes when I had a open fire place in my lounge.
Yes, great tip. We do that as well
@@ThisOffGridLife.. only just found your channel and started watching back through your vlogs.
Just watched you out doing the fire wooding video 👍
Can't tell on the vid how beefy the bucket is on the front of the tractor but you could weld a piece of plate and/or angle on top of it to mount a couple of hooks to for pulling in reverse. Nice job dropping that pine right where u wanted it! Cheers from the Trail area!😁🇨🇦
There's a tow hook where the back hoe connects but it'd be nice to lift the log so it doesn't get covered in dirt, we'll have to play around with different ways. Thanks for the idea
By the video I don’t know if you found a new piece of glass for the window but until you do just to see what up you could always go get a piece of plexiglass thick plexiglass and put in there relatively cheap and they can cut that any size you want this is Scott in Pleasant Grove Utah just a suggestion love the videos thanks for sharing your life with us
Turn around and go reverse up the hill. If you dont have a winsh you have to go reverse uphill.
Just need to fill up the front bucket with some weight and you'll be fine.
Either that or pull from the front and back up to where you want to go.
put in plexiglass widow first and keep in place till later day then cut glass the same fit save you in this winter cold
I have just finished binge watching your videos from the beginning…oh my goodness you should be proud of the achievements that you have made so far….I have had a life long dream of a house in a forest. Cherish every tree and view that you have and congratulations on all your hard work…it will be worth it in the end . Looking forward to your future projects….much love from Kent 🇬🇧 and Stay safe ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!!
Maybe use plexiglass for the windows. Its not perfect but will work until you can do better. I put it in my back laundry room when i didn't have one and that's been 15 years ago. It worked fine.
I think we will have to call you he-man and wonder woman if you can split that chunk with that small axe, lol, i think you need a heavier axe. Your little tractor can do it, lower the front bucket and put a chunk of wood in it and just have the log alittle off the ground and it could probably pull the log up the hill. Cool tractor, 🤩
YOU HAVE TO LEAVE 1/2 INCH SPACE ALL AROUND THE GLASS 2 1/4 inch shims at the bottom only put your window stop on the outside first use window tape stick the glass to the tape then install your inside trim if you don't do that your GLASS is gone crack in 2or 3 month
Great vid guys...two unsolicited bits of advice. Don't try and split big rounds down the middle, just take a small chunk off the edge, it seems to release the tension, and the rest will come much easier. Also, grab a bucket load of dirt to weigh down that tractor's front end to compensate for the backhoe and log.
Watching from haverhill Massachusetts
If you pull from down low the tractor won’t tip up so easily. You can double cable the tree. Tie off down low on the tractor (below the axle) and then just lift with the backhoe. Will pull much easier that way. It can actually be dangerous to pull a heavy load tied off above the rear axle.
use the front bucket to raise the log and back up the hill
Did you all design your house yourselves? I love the windows, and the views are so beautiful, and I love the light .
Yes, we did 😊
Love chickens. From Chicago area
a million years ago when I was little 4-5 we live in cold country. we got a 3 day blizzard complete white out for 3 solid days followed by a extreme temperature drop -20 to -40 the. old lasted must of been a week of driving everyone crazy because we were stuck in the house and we had snow stuff to do .
my brother discovered if he put his finger in his mouth then touched the giant picture window his finger would stick to it . after a few times he touched the window and there was a loud snap as the window cracked all the way across the bottom. smh
shortly after that we bundled up in our snow suits and we're allowed to go outside.. we made it about 2-3 steps . that's when I froze my lungs for the first time. you can't exhale or inhale and you think you are going to die.
I was done with wanting to do snow shit. lol
Wow, that's one hell of a storm
Son of a gun on your window. Maybe some fine grinding with the chainsaw if you have another tight one. How about a bucket full of dirt to give you some front weight. Hard to lose a flock member or 2. Thanks for the video. Great as always. Watching from North of Edmonton AB
eastern north carolina
Watching from Surrey, England. It looks like the tractor is a bit lightweight for hauling out logs that size at this time of year in your part of the world. Probably ok when the ground is dry. Shame about the broken glazing unit.
Maybe get a guard goose ?
The guniea is supposed to be a guard bird. I did see them *try* to chase off deer once haha
@@ThisOffGridLife I think geese are just a lot more vocal, and can definitely be more violent. It’s just not good losing something you have reared.
Guys when your dealing with a log that size don’t try to split it In half take chunks off the outside edges
Az... I , Would Hope You Get A Suction Devise To Help You Install Those Windows..All, That Wood And Mud..Cool , Video ..
That tree is heavy!!!
nice

sometimes when splitting larger rounds, "peeling the onion" can be easier, by shelling off a couple inches around the perimeter, possibly a couple times on the really big ones...
I tried, ponderosa is one of the hardest woods to split around here. It's not too bad if a round has been sitting in the sun, but a fresh cut is a killer. Need a maul axe for sure.
i am not sure why did not pre cut the frame inside and out so you can frame the out side and do all your calling and that and put in the do the inside , that is way we use to do them when I was a carpenter ?
That girl knows how to swing a maul, good help you're a lucky dude
Please build the chickens a safe enclosure free from predators
I watch you 2 regularly from Windsor Ontario . 1st of all , are you ok ? Hearing about all the flooding and devastation BC. has endured I TRULY hope your ok 🙏
2nd Thank-you , for sharing I know it's challenging for you living and building off grid , it's your joy in your success that inspires people ! Me included .
In closing please be safe & well and let us ALL know your ok .
Your loyal fan
S.Meadows
We are okay, no flooding here. Thanks
Turn the tractor round and reverse uphill, the way you are doing it is a accident waiting to happen.
Ask your window supplier how much expansion space to allow and the best materials to mount in. If you are mounting these windows into a tight fit, I'm guessing it'll either crack the glass or break the seal from expansion and contraction due to temperature changes.
1/2 inch on all sides. We had a bit less for tht window plus the 2x6 must have had a bow to it, lesson learned
Nevermind - just saw the big window install details - looks very good to me. AND the jerk from speeding up the video right at the point you two had that window in the maximum horizontal bowing stress position to go into the frame ALMOST gave me a heart attack...
Those two big windows in the corner sure look good! For the future - consider a good quality horizontal opening pleated shade that splits left and right and totally clears the window when open - manually operated. Provides some additional insulation value when closed, goes with most decor, easy to operate, totally clears the window glass and minimal size when open. Not great for light control but very good when what you want is unobstructed view and night time privacy/security. Major downside - a good quality shade in this format is pricey but if something happened to my large window shades and sliding door vertical shades, I'd replace them with the same in a heartbeat.
S#IT HAPPINS !
Those Windows looks so cool! But i dont think they isolate very well. Alot of heat will escape through the glass.
they have argon gas in them for insulation value
@@ThisOffGridLife Ok, that helps!
😳 hope get Windows new one. Lol
Vai ser mais fácil vc ficar a árvore 🌲, muito peso pra puxar no trator,
I know you will eventually show us how you will do it, but is it difficult to trim out those type window installs with all the plywood stops you put top and bottom for the pane of glass to sit on?
Yeah.. am realising this is going to be a difficult and crux to work around.
Sad, we raised ten guineas we have one left, seven in one day disappeared saw coyotes take two out of the yard.
Hi Katie.. continued prayers for your good health and beautiful teamwork.
Sorry about the chicks... heartbreaking:(
In a flurry of ironic meandering this morning I realized first, how much I like your title.. "This Off Grid Life", and how my life is perpendicular currently, and is more "This Off Life Grid" 😊. I'm sure you get it...Be well!
Just saw the crack.. ouch! I'm sorry...just part of your story is all. You guys will overcome. I love your music choices btw.. ❤️
So sorry!!
Hey, what model kioti is that and are you happy with it?
I'm clearing 3 acres and figured a 2610 might by helpful here on the east coast.
Ck3510, we decided it was worth paying more for the extra horsepower. It's awesome
