      When I sticker those boards to dry, I try to keep those strips spaced no longer than 3 feet apart preferably closer. It helps them dry straighter and not bow or warp as much.

    Option 2 with matched stain all the way... For sun on the windows, you might actually want to consider external shades or shutters to block the sun *before* the heat gets into the building. Will cut down on A/C energy costs over curtains/blinds inside.

    You are getting to be a master tractor operator. As well as a well rounded farmer. My Dad was a life long farmer and proud of it. He always said he had to master many skills. Carpenter, welder, plumber etc etc. i was thinking Katie and a bunch of previous videos and todays tractor display moving that log, but I guess this applies to Greg also. Ps I’m a 62 year grandmother. Respect!

    I love a nice stained wood but mix it up. Decide how you want each room "flavored." Wood says warm. Do you want the room to feel warm? Paint is going to be colder, more formal. Every room does not have to be the same but your stain/paint colors should be consistent throughout the house & tie it all together.

  • @darzoom

    Your videos are great and I love watching your progress. Maybe consider some solar window film that will keep the heat out. Y'all can put it on yourselves! My vote is paint the base bolding and stain the ceiling molding. It might look wonky if the base was stained and it didn't match the flooring.

  • @bay9876
    @bay9876 Год назад +6

    That log could've rolled down the bucket towards the operator. Maybe some welded stoppers on the bucket just to make sure this doesn't happen might be a good idea. Stain to match window trim.

    Sure love how you guys treat your goats. They're so happy, browsing around the brush and running along on your daily walks with the rest of the menagerie!
    A tip I discovered with reflectix is to apply it to the exterior of the window wherever possible. It's not really R value that helps with reflectix, but reflecting back the radiant heat from a direct hit of sun rays, so it's quite a bit more efficient if it can keep the heat from hitting the glass at all. Otherwise, the reflectix absorbs heat from the glass and radiates it back into your room.
    I was living in an old house at the time that had very little insulation and no air conditioning in a semi-desert climate. Had to do a mix of interior and exterior application depending on how accessible the windows were, but it actually kept the house bearable in high 30 temps. Give it a try! :)

    To keep the heat out, try using 'Coleman Emergency Blankets' (I get mine from Peavy Mart for around $4-5 dollars a pack) You can tape it on with painters tape to your windows or window frame and you can still see out and it works wonderfully for keeping out the heat. I use this in my home and it works great. I love your shows and watch them daily. -Wilf, a happy subscriber

At the time, I had 2 little boys who loved to run their racecars down the hallway and crash. So I added a quarter round piece in front of the baseboard stained the same as my hardwood floors to 1 protect the paint on the baseboard and 2 act as a bumper from my little nascar drivers lol. You guys should think about investing in a high velocity fan that if you put in one window facing outward then open up all the rest of the windows on that floor about 2/3 of the way it'll create a little whirlwind inside kind of the same way that a fantastic fan does in the roof and then whatever you do I would stay out of the upstairs during the heat of the day because obviously heat rises and you should try to work on the downstairs during the heat of the day and the upstairs in the mornings and evenings when it's cooler, by the way Katie, you're a master on that tractor. 😁

Bonus if you go with stain and after awhile you don't like it any more paint it bummer though if you go with paint stain option is out . One tip if you stain pre finish with a coat of prestain to reduce blotching . The advice of removeable sun block on the outside is right on . Cool in summer remove for winter to gain heat . Just a reminder I know you want the home finished but things get done when they get done don't burn yourselves out .
