Don’t worry about the job site becoming a mess….think of it this way real job site have laborer to clean all day after each trade gets done…you two are all the trades, Katie insulator Greg electrician, then you not have to become laborers….meanwhile holding down full time jobs and a weekly show….I’ve seen numerous off grid builds….you both are genuine, which is great to watch….love how you may not know the exact verbiage of the trade you’re doing but you get your point across….I know I speak for a lot of subscribers…if we were located near you, we would give both of a hand in your build… keep grinding it will be worth it!

Hahaha. Love ya'll ❤️ look forward to more!!

    Guys. You two.
This has been one of your best videos. I really enjoyed the randomness, as you say, Katie. I saw the rawness of you both and y’all’s day to day in this video. I feel y’all’s love, as well as strength and determination and will. It’s pleasing to see and to be somewhat of a part of. For sure. The channel is great, I dig the music, the flows and ebbs of life off grid and up on a dang mountain(!) are documented well and truly enjoyed. Thank you both for your hard hard work which I’m able to watch and experience from afar. Love you both! Plus, I love all of your animals and the way you both love them! Take care!
ETA: I’ve been watching since right before the build, the wind took some trees, I believe that was the first. I have intermittently gone through a few older ones and want to add this… the evolving goin on in y’all’s work side of making YT videos has gone up. I do love the simplicity qualities of them.

Morning Katie and Greg from a very windy South East England. We are under a red weather warning for 90mph winds today and I'm staying firmly indoors watching this with a cup of coffee. One of the best things you can do for nature water is to use a UV filter. That will kill all those things that you cant see. Of course running it thru a Berkey tank is a close second.

You two are absolutely rockin' it...this build is moving along and looking so solid! So well-insulated, with so much care and attention to detail. Always inspiring watching you two work together!
And gotta say, I love your t-shirt, Greg! :-D
Oh my goodness, but people can get so uptight about our bodies and bodily functions. Once I could read it I knew exactly what it was about. I remember back to when y'all installed that Tushy bidet and you were both absolutely loving it; talking about how life-changing it was. What a great piece of schwag that shirt is, ha!
Yeah, it is def a attention-getter/conversation starter, but once people can finally loosen up and accept and talk more about "what goes in, must come out" and how to deal with it, maybe bidets can become more accepted on "this side of the pond" and we stop cutting down so many trees for TP by using a Tushy (or any bidet, eh?)
Keep up the great work, and best to you both! *Aloha from Hawaii*

    About saving electrical power :
Do so research on how much it would to buy some motion sensors. In one of the previous videoes you mentioned something about that the room has living space and kitchen. Depending on how much it would kost my idea to sensors would be one pointing towards he living area. And one that points towards the kitchen.
And if the sensors are fairly cheap you could consider wiring the light with that in mind.
And one thing that need to be aware of is if they react to annimals(=dogs).

Hey guys awesome to see what's going on, just thought of a little trick for those super awkward places to cut and install all the foam and insulation and vapour barrier. We also used to do that while building houses. Now we buy the double cans and spray foam that area in the ceiling/floor joists. 2" thick and you don't need to add the vapour barrier and black death lol. Then all you need is a layer of roxul infront of it for fire.

We bought an old 1948 stick built home that was constructed using white pine from the property. There was absolutely NO insulation in it when we bought it. On the plus side, the thing was built like a tank. All rough cut dimensional, 1 1/2" pine sheathing on all exterior walls, 2 1/2 inch blue stone mined from the area. We ended up gutting the home and insulating the entire thing, then sheetrocking and putting in hardwood floors in all the rooms that didn't have it. The wife tiled two full bathrooms and the kitchen. We would have been far better off just building from scratch, but we ended up with a nice comfortable home for the two of us. Now we want to sell it and move up to your area. Dammitall.

I can relate. I’m renovating my 70 year old house in Japan one step at a time. Some of my exterior walls didn’t even have sheathing! Only exterior sheet metal siding. I’ve had to install sheathing from the inside, then install insulation. Much more work than building new! Once it’s all finished, I plan to sell and build an off-grid cabin in Canada!

why not use a ram pump to get the water to your house? is it too far away, or is it impossible to lay a pipe from the water to your house. Gr.Rob

Are you planning on having humidity control as the wood stove will dry the apartment out big time.

We'll keep a pot of water on the stove and we will be adding a heat recovery ventilation to bring is fresh air

Will your current solar set up supply enough power for the new house?
