Good morning ☕️ where is everyone watching from?
Currently the rainy lower mainland. Boysenberries are delicious once their colour goes dark purple.
I am wondering if the local bear population will come after those berries.
I planted "wild strawberry" far away from the house, bears can indulge there. I got those from local city garden sale.
Blackberries and boysenberries both vine, so you may need to keep them pruned or supported.
Watching from South Africa 🇿🇦 U r doing a lovely job of making your garden 😀 Strongs with the chickens 🐔

Katie, why don't you cut the chickens' flight feathers so they CAN'T fly out of their run? Cheaper and quicker! It won't hurt them (although they won't like it ....
That’s what my grandparents always did
Yes we used to raise chickens and we would do the same thing
That's what I do with mine. You only trim them on one side and just the 3 or 4 flight feathers 🪶
Yes my parents had chickens and they clipped the chickens wings it kept them out of my parents veggie garden , if you clip the wings properly it won’t hurt just don’t go to close to the quill.🇦🇺🙋♀️🐔
That was gonna be my suggestion also by cutting their flight feathers. Sometimes you have to do this to keep them from getting loose and posibly being eaten by wild animals.
Keep up the great work Katie. Your doing a good job👍🏻🙏🏻😊😊
Just clip their wings so they can’t fly so high. Take some scissors clip the wings fairly short on one side only it’s best to do this once the sun goes down so they are easier to catch by doing that they won’t be able to fly over a 4 foot fence and it doesn’t cost anything and it doesn’t hurt the bird at all it’s like clipping finger nails there is no feeling in their feathers
Yeh, y'all that she'll is taking on a unique character all it own.!!! You be dressing her up, in all of th finest of houselike apparels. Brthrn Jeff B. It's looking good.!!!👍👍👍
Clip the chickens' wings. Clipping their wins doesn't hurt them and it keeps them from taking flight. They can still get to their roosts. They just can't get real flight.
You can trim your chickens wing feathers with a sharp pair of scissors. It does not hurt them at all, but will prevent them from flying.
As a New Zealander watching you plant a gooseberry bush brought back memories of eating them raw and the pies we used to make from them yummy
Greg you just seem like a down to earth guy. Praying for you guys great channel
Easy fix to chickens flying is clipping their feathers. Easy to do. Some only cut one wings feathers, others cut both to look more symmetrical. I’m sure there are Utube videos showing the process. We used to only have to clip a few chickens that trained all the others to follow. Enjoy your channel.
You’re an amazing young woman Katie..hard working, very pateint
I am from Ohio and have been waiting for your next one. Inalso contacted your supplier for off grid gear and they cant ship to US but he helped me find someone else.
Oh no, thays too bad. Glad he was able to help out though
you can clip the wing feathers on 1 wing so they can't fly... When I had chickens I clipped one wing to keep them in....ps laundry door should be at least a 32 inch door or 2-8 in carpenter talk....
FYI....clip the chickens flight feathers on one wing, that will keep them from flying. I have raised chickens it works.
Europe - Poland - Krakow Greets Canada. I wish you health and perseverance.
Hi Katy, I know this is an old video, just to say, when you plant any kind of cabbage, (as plug plants) plant it very deep, just leave the tips showing. You will get bigger plants ❤
Follow your dream. Let your passion lead the way.
A Jurassic Park moment with the broody hen. Wonder if some dinosaurs clucked like chickens and were broody
Hello Katie ENJOY your plans LOVE WATCHING your WONDERFUL VIDEO god KEEP on BLESSING you and your WONDERFUL husband you BOTH are a beautiful COUPLE
You guys are so lucky creators! You found your soul path early enough.
I wish I would have found my soul path at the farmhouse in Thuringia in Germany where my relatives live. Everything was there, everything I would want together with my brother was there at the beautiful farmhouse. But I did not recognise my soul path was there! You cannot imagine how much this hurts!
Hej from Germany, my God - a lot, a lot, a lot of to do for your little Team , great Job !!!
That's sweet that you were able to reduce the amount of time spent away from the homestead. All the best to you guys going forward!
Hello from New Zealand
Just watching your video re the chook problem, I remember as a kid, my mum had the same problem with keeping them in, she just trimmed one wing so they couldn’t fly straight, that kept them in the same place.
Keep up all your great work, you have made great progress.
Cheers
Defiantly clip the flight feathers will save you a lot of extra work with those little cuties
Lilac grows from root. If there are any buds on it it will grow no problem. One piece of good root will start a tree.
Don't want chickens to fly clip their wings. Keep plugging away and it will seem like you are getting to the end of your build.
Love and Peace. Blesse Be. Doug.
If you give the chickens something they really love outside the fencing and clip a few flight feathers, they are less likely to try to get to youre goodies in the garden.
Thus the saying, “flew the coop “.
Your videos are getting better all the time. I hope you can do well on RUclips.
Thank you
Give the thornless blackberries a lot of room. They grow big and travel.
Mom raised chickens and we clipped their wings to keep them in the fenced area, it doesn't hurt them, and it is not cruel.
gooseberries get sweeter when they have a red color.
Some people put those triangle flags on to of the fence in a line which stops flying chickens or birds from flying into garden. Even lining flags over the top of the garden from post to post. Just a suggestion.😁
im happy to be here with you guys ...LOVING DEM VIDEOS>...
It's starting to look like a house 🏠!!
At some point I would build raised gardens. Then construct a removable frame work , hinged and covered with chicken wire. It would keep out trespassing chickens and let in rain and sun light.
I am happy for you and your husband. This is my 2nd time on your channel and I enjoy your channel too. God bless and keep it coming in Jesus Christ mighty name Amen
Keep up the good work you’re doing a good job you’re very hard worker and I enjoy watching you guys good luck to you God bless
Cut their feathers a little so they don’t fly that is what another RUclipsr does and it makes sense because we trim our birds feathers too
I fenced-in the garden to keep out 🦌and 🐔and let the 🐔 free range
Get yourself some prayer flags and put up around your garden. It will really keep them out! Just take and put some wood post up were your other post are so that it’s a little higher than your fence. Then string up prayer flags all the way around your garden. It will keep birds and the deer out! Trust me it works great.
watching from Virginia (USA)
Watching from Colorado with a cup of coffee.
I have seen farmers clipping the wings of the chickens to control their flying out of their enclosed area. This could be one solution.
that was a killer movie here in the states, under the stairs.
It's getting there!! One thing at a time!! Looks great so far..👍🤓👍🤓 Randy.
Hi From New Zealand,be aware boysenberries and blackberries send up suckers every where and will take over your space, keep up the good work, spring looks wonderful.we are just coming into winter,no snow here though.
amazing chicken lady having chicken problems LOL
We have found that If you put a board across the top of the chicken fence that gives them a target to land on. We have a white poultry fence that is only 4’ tall. They have never flown out of the range area. I see you mentioned no top board. Good call. 😁
You can clip one of the chickens wings and it will reduce their flying.
Looking so good. Garden in. Might just consider closing in the garden if possible to keep birds out. Or put a sign in the garden "NO CHICKENS ALLOWED". Thanks for sharing.
Maybe what you need is fairly large Greenhouse and keep the doors closed so no animals can get and eat your greens.
Peter
I wanted to tell you that you can clip about 2 or 3 inches off of their wing feathers and they won't fly and it does not hurt them. Try that.
hello katy, it is impressive how your channel grows. To think that I was one of the 5 or 6 subscribers, I congratulate you for so much effort and dedication of both to do all that, the time comes that wears you out, I send greetings from Argentina, until next video, I don't miss any, bye
I've seen some homestead vlogs of people cutting the wings of the chickens so they can't fly up high. Just a thought.
Good Morning Just a thought If you clip the wings of the birds, they will not be able to fly out of the cage
Congratulations Katie on being able to do something you love. You and Greg work so hard. The house is looking so good I love the windows
Thank you 😊
By putting fence around the garden and other places like fruit trees and flowers make the most sense and let the chickens and other animals do what they do and that saves a lot of food cost for them.
It's also nice to see that y'all's spring plants & growth are putting on their leaves for th growing year.
WELCOME HOME ! ❤ Well,,, ALMOST ! 😁
Hi guys, i am watching from near Aberdeen in Scotland , love the channel
Yum,my grandma made gooseberry/strawberry pie every summer my fav, doing good job
Your chickens if you trim their wings it will help with stopping them from flying over the fence
Been watching from Kansas City. Just discovered your channel recently. Lots of good stuff info on the build and off grid living!
It may be easier to clip their wings, then they can't fly!! We did this with wild ducks and it works great. You have to do it every year though!!
You got a pretty smart feller, there girl
To keep them from flying out of the pen. You clip the ends of their wings.
clip the chicken's wings will help keep them in the run. cut the feathers along the back side of their wings. can do just one wing can't fly then. looking great.
15 in the bangs are really working
Hi, we follow you from New Zealand, whakatane, you two are doing well with the house build, much respect having to work full time and work on the house n
We cut flight wing , only one, on each chicken, every 6 weeks, our older birds we leave as they dont try anymore. We have had no problems with escapees
We have a 2 meter fence round our chickens and if you clip their wings - one side only - they wont get out - in 12 years ours have not been a problem - good luck with thenm!!
Hey guys, I noticed the door studs above the door and they look like pressure treated. That wood is carcinogenic and can cause cancer from the out gassing. I know it is a small bit but it taking out of the wall and using untreated wood is best for your health overall. Other than that it looks great.
in life u get what u spend
So happy things are flowing more and more🥰
Northeast Pennsylvania ❤
If chickens can see the top they can get over…..the key is to make a visual invisible top somehow.
The full time work is a killer when trying to build a brand/channel on the side. So excited for you to get to spend your precious time on something you love! We have really enjoyed seeing your channel grow and all your hard work come to fruition!
Thanks!
Kentucky United State. Cut the wing feathers off one side, they will fly in a circle.
Fantastic re taking time at home! Clip one of the wings and they will stay away.
Have you thought about just clipping their wing feathers? you can do one or both sides. painless and keeps them from flying
Save water from boiling eggs. Let cool and use to water in garden. It is high in calcium. I also plant a fish or fish guts in between my tomatoes.
Hello good day the work is getting very good, a hug to all 😎🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Oh yes. Love the wink! 😅
Happy to hear you're going to have more time!
Yes cutting their flight feathers works relly well. I was raised on a farm and that is what we did and it works really well. Saves you a lot of frustration and money as well.
Katie, clip 75mm of feathers off of one wing (tips) only and they will not be able to fly
what we did when i was a kid dad use to cut the feathers back on one wing , so they fly around in circles they cant fly over the fence
Greg, You have a very pretty gardener!! :-) Watching from Ohio.
We use to clip their wings and they stand in their containment
Seen all the sheet rock go up, it really help to envision the spaces. You both are such hard workers.
you may want to move to Florida as I am and hubby will have all the roofing jobs he would ever want
Chickens are relentless but I love them
Just a idea. (using Google translator, sorry). - Çut the main feathers from one of chicken`s wings. So they won`t have the balance to fly... Greetings from Brasil.
Insulate the interior walls of the laundry room at least. The noise of Washing machine and dryer are loud through drywall . I made the mistake of not isolating interior walls once to save money and totally regretted it . Could hear every fart in the next room
A whole lot easier to clip their wings. Thats what we do with ours and problem solved. You tube has a lot of videos on that
I am watching from Alberta
Katie Do have a Dad? He would be proud to see you and what you do.
PS Time to clip the ‘chickens’ wings.
I am watching from Sweden 👏🥰
I have followed you for a while now, I have been watching from Craig Colorado.
