Kinda sad how the astromech droid is literally the LEGO colors but the McDonald’s brand is way more recognizable
I feel like if they added blue and green it would look more like Lego colors, even if they might not be the strict Lego logo colors
It’s because they added too much yellow
It would look better with white legs, Lego logo don’t have that much yellow, that little bit of detail on the body and head would be enough.
But it’s easy fix, I think everyone has a ton of spare R2D2s so it’s easy to get white legs.
The problem is, there's not much yellow in the Lego logo so the yellow and red of the droid are more synonymous with McDonalds.
Imagine how many McNuggets I could get for $110
Super disappointing that no one is talking about how the astromech is named Lego and it is the logo colors. Yes it also looks like a McDonald’s droid but the fact that no one is mentioning the other side of it is is kinda weird.
Lol.
Honestly didn’t even realize that.
Though this is my first time hearing the droids name, it still would have taken me an embarrassingly long time to figure that out by myself.
@@benlandis6317 You'd think they would be better informed as LAN members who get sets early. Lego should really start hanging out some basic trivia/info to reviewers.
The swapping wings are known as “Uglies” in SW and are part of the lore, usually used by pirates who take remnant pieces from space battles to build these strange mashups.
Legends isn’t Star Wars, it’s garbled fan-fiction
@@elijahhamilton4097 Uglies are Canon in the Poe Dameron comics
@@arkhamknight_06 I dont consider anything sequels to be canon, it’s all literally canon breaking. I stand firm with Lucas film Star Wars, anything not that I don’t consider anything short of fan fiction

I weep for this generation. My man, read Plagueis or the X-Wing series.
the "L3-G0" is an easter egg for "lego" and it also has the same colors as the lego logo
Thank you detective!
I can see that, but I think the legs should've been black then to get the logo look more on point. The majority of white makes it more like McDonalds than LEGO.

Bro, every X-wing video he does lmao
What's funny about the gimmick of the wings is the engines for the X-Wing are on the wings while the TIE Fighters engine is on the main body so one gets double the engine power while the other gets nothing.
Lmfao that is so true. Also I think the swings cannons are also on the wings, while the tie's lasers are on the body. One has double engine power AND double lasers, and the other is basically an escape pod 😂

Ah yes, the X-TIE
Ah yes, the TIE-Wing
Yes, they were once known as Uglies and are now part of legends
@@hyejoohyecanon too
And this is my counterpart, Wing Fighter
@@hyejoohyepeople know “uglies” exist. They just don’t care.
Both characters’ names are jabs at LEGO-related things. Greebling’s name is self explanatory, whereas Scala’s is an on-the-nose reference to SCALA, the Lego jewelry theme from the 90s I think it was.
Also Sig like sigfig
These mashups were called "Uglies" back in the discarded expanded universe books from the 90s. It's actually kind of nice seeing them being recanonized under disney. Post-war groups would slap together whatever parts left over from the war that they could salvage to make anything flyable.
this is not "recanonised" as Rebuild the Galaxy is clearly not canon.
@@arrun5125 It didnt need to be reconanised, because Poe Damerons novels and comics already did it anyway..
So that's $90 total. How the heck did they justify an extra $20? The swapping feature isn't worth $20
LEGO doing LEGO things
Every set in this wave is overpriced
@@_IShowSlowDisney also plays a part in the price, the licensing alone is worth 10% of the whole price, which should only cost Lego, not us.
I am not buying anything from this wave unless it is deep clearance. Their pricing has gotten out of control.
I just looked it up on the U.S. inflation calculator, and it says that $90 in 2021 (when the previous sets were released) is now $104.31. So, most of that increase appears to be due to inflation, and I'm guessing they just decided to round up to the nearest $10. That doesn't make the price any more palatable, though.
L3-GO
LEGO
It’s the Lego astromech
The best part about this new X-Wing, in my opinion, is the angled sides of the nose. If they could use that technique on the 2019 X-Wing, I think that would look perfect.
This set isn't about what's canon or not, it's about celebrating LEGO star wars as a theme. All the minifigs are named as refernces to themes or other lego related terms and the whole concept of swapping feels like a great way to kick start a kids imagination. Looks to me like a great set.
Finally, a guy that GETS LEGO star wars.
Yeah. Both this and the Dark Falcon review were just David ranting about how he doesn't like Lego Star Wars media. Can't a Lego set just be fun?
It is almost as if as the review goes on he starts to get them because he is actually using them rather than just thinking of them as something to stick on a shelf. He also compared the price of them new to an older set at a discounted price, which these ones will be too soon.
@@redsaints Right! felt a bit disingenuous, though Lego has always been an expensive hobby. Also thought it was kind of funny when he was talking about how the one TIE had a better cockpit while the other one had better wings, and he was wishing they made a new set like that. The solution was staring him in the face!
@@JD-ud9qt Used to browse that old Lego star wars book (the one that came with Luke with a medal) all the time when I was younger. It's sad that star wars sets have become everyone's investment vehicle. People talk about the value being bad while still buying a UCS set for one figure.
I died internally every time David said "X-foils" :DDD
9:17 You have quickly become the best LEGO reviewer on the internet for me. This level of brutal honesty (that comes from a place of passion and not just bitterness), even when LEGO provides the sets for review… is truly the definition of integrity. Appreciate you for always keeping it real and making great videos! Glad I found the channel.
L3-G0 was the perfect chance to give us a classic lego guy themed astromech
Uglies! That's amazing. They're canon too if that matters to people
No its legends
The uglies now canon in poe dameron comic
I don’t care what anyone says, this set is absolutely perfect. Nameless pilots, generic ships that complement each other and look really good on their own. I plan on getting it
I mostly agree I love the Tie Fighter and I like the X-Wing and the figures are fine but I don’t really care about the swapping stuff and I don’t like the price
@@mr.Nooblinton I think the price is decent for what you’re getting, I think it could be $10-$20 cheaper personally but it’ll regularly discount to that at various places anyway. The wings gimmick is integrated well enough to the point where it doesn’t harm the looks of the ships, it’s just a good balance of a set for both kids and adults. I respect your points
When I saw this set I just wanted to get it straight away and I can’t wait for august
It's okay if, for some reason, you don't have a tie fighter or X wing already.
@@absolutezerochill2700 which is me for some reason
I actually think that might be favorite version of the X-wing. Or at least modern version. I still prefer my classics.
Where's jedi Bob!? Is he still behind the camera, David??
Videos of bob and his set are out already
@@RT-5897 Yeah, I just saw it 😁
MandR is always ahead of everyone else because lego doesn’t have a death grip on him😂
X-TIE looks like a V-Wing, neat
There will definitely be some alt builds of that👍
I love getting obscure ships in LEGO form for the first time, we’ve had it so good this year. The E-Wing, and now uglies!! So excited to add these to my collection
I'll definitely be sticking with the 2021 TIE Fighter and X-Wing sets for sure.
I do hope to grab a couple more of the TIEs for my Imperial Navy.
Same
I really feel like these Rebuild the Galaxy sets have been some of the best of the summer wave so far. They are just so cool and the figures are really cool, who cares if they’re canon or not.
idk, that Mando battle pack is sweet
If I have no attachment to the characters, why would I want them in minifigure form?
As an avid x-wing collector, I gotta say, I’m definitely buying this. That x-wing shape-wise is very good. Idk if I’ll wait for a sale, but I’m honestly pleasantly surprised as to how these 2 ships look, wasn’t expecting to like them
Great review as always 😃👍
Wanted to see if you recognised that not only is the droid’s name LEGO and the guy is Greebling, but also Scala was an older line of toys that LEGO made. They were larger, like dolls almost. All three characters are sneaky references to the company.
Much better than I imagined
This is a banger concept for kids, but wish this was sold seperatly for it to be more affordable. Honestly I'm glad about the wing stuff to make the Uglies, it's a super neat play feature and pushes toward interchanging parts more.
Love the Uglies, not a big fan of the base models though. Just never thought I would see the day where we’d have an E-Wing, X-TIE, and basically a Death Seed on shelves at the same time. Low key a great time to be an EU and lego Star Wars fan.
I appreciate how this one is more scale friendly to the play scale falcons. Usually Xwing playsets dwarf them
Appreciate the honesty here, love this channel.
I’d love it if they used the wing swap gimmick for a tie fighter set with interceptor, defender or other wing options
I love how both of these ships look and am glad they are both coming in a single set. It;s just so dissapointing that the X-Wing doesn't do the one thing that you'd want an X-Wing to do.
David let Bob free! We know you have him behind the camera and we know the starfighter “you were talking about”
Lego won't let him, L company.
MandR already dropped a review
Nah I'd rather boycott mandr
@@Gundamfan24k-wr4mv what did he do?
Did you have the wrong color shooters in each ship, or were they backwards for some reason?
Cool set
Not to mention if you swap them, all the engines go to the X-Tie. The quad engines from the X Wing and the Twin Ion Engine from the TIE are all together. The other ship has zero engines haha
just interested might be a stupid question but how is it that this set was first in reveals but almost last in reviews? how does the system work in this?
Inflation type TIE fighter
Check out BaufmanBricks' TIE fighter if you want the ultimate form of an inflation type TIE.
I like the way the xwing with the tie wings look
L3-G0 = LEGO
(He didn’t mention it)
I hope someone on Rebrickable takes advantage of the swappable parts, and makes tank treads so I can make a Tie Crawler.
As usual, the TIE Fighter doesn't have the grey supports on the inside of the wings. Why is this never on TIE Fighter sets except for UCS?
I like this because the Mini X-Wing and TIE-Fighter look kinda cute imo.
Most of the time I don't agree with your opinion, but your camera work and lightning is really great imo.
i loved the yoda chronicals when i was younger
I love how the original characters are all references to LEGO!
L3-G0 - Spells LEGO (also the colors of the figure are the colors of the LEGO logo)
Yesi Scala - Scala was an old LEGO theme
Sig Greebling - The community term Sig figs and the greebling LEGO technique
I’m so excited for this set!
I have to give credit where credit is due. I didn't like your duel on peridia review but your last two reviews have been exceptionally good. Great work david 💪
06:17 it’s not a gimmick. Whilst sure LEGO/Disney have seized on it as a gimmick idea to redo the x wing and tie fighter sets rather than just having another redo of the ships individually, these two mashed up ships do exist in pre-Disney and pre-LEGO/rebuild the universe canon. They are known as “uglies”. Fighters and ships assembled from random parts or whatever was available. They existed in post-ROTJ Star Wars after the Empire fell apart, no empire and the manufacturing facilities kind of went to shit. So ship builders started making these to use up parts they had. But some uglies were deliberately designed that way.
My point is that these kind of ships have been in Star Wars canon since before Disney in the expanded universe.
I guess the Mandalorian's upgraded Naboo starfighter would count as one of those.
Bro I was just watching your August 1st early reveiws today and was wishing someone had this reveiw (the best August 1st set) and 5 hours later...TADA
I think I will pick this set up
Honestly the best playscale x-wing ever made accuracy wise
While not commenting on anything else, I think the design of the X-wing is the best Lego Star Wars has done in a while (in play scale).
Thanks for the review, Solid! I've noticed that in certain parts of your reviews, the narration doesn't seem to match up with the footage of the model. I'm not sure if that is intentional, it just seems delayed by like 10 to 20 seconds, lol. A piece of the model will be shown, then talked about after moving to a different shot. Overall, though, awesome video!
People should really compare these lego sets to the models used in the movies. Because these 2 ships are definitely the most accurate tie and x-wing lego has done at this scale yet. The designers should be proud with this one.
I agree on the X-Wing (though the lack of a wing mechanism does really harm it imo), but that TIE Fighter is absolutely hideous.
Scala is a reference to the old Lego Theme. Greebling is named after all the little details modelmakers use to detail models.
I like the idea of this set, but wished there was more rebuilding from this set than just swapping the wings
Dude keeps saying kids will have fun with it, he looked like he was having so much fun.😀
Thanks for saving me money, David. I'll stick to my 2021 X-Wing and TIE
In a fan of this Wave, I like the Creativity
I love my first order tie fighter even better!
If it's cheap enough at some point in the next year or two I might get one set, but I personally am content with the older versions as the 'upgrades' are more side grades in my eyes. But as Minifigure scale, they draw me in if super discounted 😊.
I love playing tennis with my racket joints
When you talk about "At least we are getting notable iconic vehicles [...] these are not just random ships", it's an interesting point.
Of course it's good to have new versions of Lego ties and Xwings and get to see how they improve with times, but I have to say that I really love having some new ships in my SW and getting a chance to get those in lego form. It could be a bit boring to have just Xwings and Ties for ever.
Same about minifgs : new characters in SW, new figs in Lego, makes sense and it's one of the purposes of those specific sets.
I'm absolutely going to be picking up this set soon as I can. The builds are great, the play features look fun and its an awesome example of the Vs. sets Lego has been making. I feel like the points about non-canon characters being included is a little ridiculous given it's for an original show. Plus even if you don't like them you still get civilian looking characters along with some generic pilots for generic ships. I think having just regular no-name figures are fine, I'd even like to see more. Put a little bit of City into Star Wars.
for someone who just starts buying and collecting lego star wars, should i buy it?
I just realized this now but the Xwing with tie wings on it kinda looks like the classic V wing , kinda funny lol
Hopefully the next Xwing and Tie Fighter we get are in the old bigger scale
Definitely agree on the price, I think maybe a year and a half ago through normal small sales on Amazon I got the TIE Fighter, XWing, and Obi Jedi Fighter for $100.
I love the idea of an X-Wing and TIE combo pack but they should’ve tossed in a stormtrooper and rebel trooper in as well, the actual builds look really good though in scale with the other recent fighters released.
You switched the laser bolts. The TIE fighter fires the green bolts and X-Wing fires red.
X wings have their thrusters in the wings so when you swap them, there is no thrusters therefore is just gliding
The x-wing with the tie fighter wings looks like a republic v-wing
Low key fire set
As an x-wing there, I feel like that might be an excellent "elevated" version of the OG...
Thanks for the purist Cobb Vanth legs Lego!
I think that the TIE bomber was the test bed for the blacked out cockpit window. I have a feeling that's likely how all TIE Fighters will be from now on.
To me this set is good for being a vehicle builder, similar to how people say the clone battle packs are good for army building, if you want the X-wing and tie fighter builds without spending loads of money for finding the original releases then i can give it a go,i mean sure I'll toss out or sell the nothing characters from the rebuild the galaxy show but for me there is worth here, especially if i get into moc building at some point
I think the x wing looks pretty ok tbh for its size, not so keen on the tie fighter, looks pretty squashed and goofy but u wouldn't call it terrible. I am also pretty sure this whole idea is based on an original idea from star wars legends, i remember seein ages ago how parents cobbled together and mashed up parts between the x wing and tie fighter which they have clealy now used for this concept.
I was considering getting this set just for the two aircraft, but I don’t like how the Tie Fighter looks compared to the other model you showed, and the X-Wing is ok at best
The helmet of the tie pilot is different then normal its missing the silver striped that go down the face
As someone who only recently got back into lego, being able to tick off two of the best ships in one set is a massive boon for me.
Now I just need to find a standalone interceptor for a reasonable price...
I like your honesty in this review! For me these might be the best versions of the 2 ships, especially that I have the TIE bomber set and I like it's windshield design (if only the view of the pilot wasn't blocked, it would probably be perfect). The TIE Fighter's guns in the front and the absolutely awful sticker engines need changing to match the bomber but otherwise it's great, especially that it's actually minifigure scale, not like the big 2017 one. The X-Wing seems more sturdy than it's predecessor and I like the landing gear. I love that we get an unnamed rebel pilot and not an another Luke's X-wing this time but I agree, the rest of the minifigs are a little underwhelming. Also, thanks for speaking about the pricing issue.
The X-Wing body with the Tie Fighter sides is similar to the V-Wing. The X-Wing's wings are also technically S-foils, S being for strike.
Anybody know why these new August releases are all up for preorder apart from Jedi bobs starfighter?
You could use the two rebuild the galaxy minifigs as rebel soldiers
Can anyone tell me where he gets his display stands, I’m looking for those exactly and can’t find any links for them anywhere
I love how people complain about non-canon figures but don’t complain about how putting the TIE fighter solar panels on the X-Wing fuselage wouldn’t work because the TIE’s engines are on the main pod and and the X-Wing engines are on the wings.
i kinda like those new build mechanics at the entire cheeks and nose of that x wing
I like the idea of this whole line / series and they are so frustratingly close to making some great sets for it but they just aren’t quite cutting it for me
How the hell is the x wing with the tie fighter wings on not falling over
Great video, loving your content recently. A tiny correction though, it's "S-foils", not "X-foils". Despite them being X wings, "lock S foils in attack position" is what's in the films
I’m actually glad these ships came out and it’s cannon not a gimmick they are called uglies and there are many stories in the canon about them personally my favorite is a Tye-wing. They were usually built and used by pirates. Also Yodas starship is in the clone Wars TV series not just the LEGO Yoda chronicles that too is an awesome set.
I like the more old school approach to the X-wing but REALLY don't like the Tiny scaled down TIE Fighter mimicking the scaled down TIE Bomber.
I feel like were going to be seeing a lot of these sets on discount bins in a few years
Yeah just like the old tie and x-wing, those things were everywhere
I love the look of this set and its proportions are so toy-like!!! OoO And as for the non-canon characters... That makes it cool! XD You can create any story in a diorama with them! XD
I need to put the McDonald's droid together with the IKEA one! XD
The 2021 X-wing actually made an X when the wings were on attack position. This new one makes more of a >-< shape... kinda like the in universe T-85.
I have both previous versions of these vehicles and I'm pretty happy with them, not too thrilled about this set...
The potential for crashed ships in MOCs might improve with the detachable wings add some fire and swap some blocks for black to show damage I think it'll be cool for that - Buying the parts on bricklink - not the set sets wayyyyy to expensive thp
My favorite scale for a Tie fighter is the one from 2011
