I kinda dig the new box design, this is definitely a day 1 buy for me. A lot of people were disappointed they were making another Star Destroyer but considering it's been 10 years since the last play-scale Star Destroyer I think it's totally justified for LEGO to remake. Though I agree that Cal Kestis should have come with a cloth piece!
the new star destroyer look off to me, i still am going to eventually buy it but i dont think im going to unseal it because of limited space and i already have the 2014 one
I was planning to buy the latest set before this for 2.5x the price, I'm so glad they released a new one. I just started collecting Lego March of this year.
@Regeor this one looks better imo. As a owner of the 2014 one its super plain. Plus interior space really isn't important on something like this. Most kids are gonna use this as a set piece and storage for figs. That what i used to do. The ship is perfectly find in this scale. Id rather it be small and better detailed, than big and bland. Issue is fans dont understand thst bigger isnt always better. Some of the smaller sets are some of the better toys. If they made it bigger that would mean more parts which would mean 200plus on price. Lego gets so much shit for the price they pick, and yet they still sell just as many sets as before, and every other large company is doing the exact same thing with prices.
I think the main reason the 2024 Star Destroyer's interior looks smaller is because the interior is actually built up. There's more detail and has more playability with said interior.
I customize the interiors of my playset star destroyers heavily. I have two 2014s, one 2006, the old Venator and the First Order one I've rebuild as an Interdictor cruiser. I build cabins for crews, armories etc. I look at this interior and I don't see much I'd change or add. Maybe a round table for 3 minifugs somewhere and maybe somehow enclose the desk. Not sure I can add a bed somewhere.
There are some really nice details, but it is still a bit too crammed up. Also having a ton of technic showing, even red and blue pins, that is just not great. If they are needed for structure and stability, the least they could do is put 2 technic 1/2 pins on the outside of it and slap a tile on it. If I can think of such a simple and elegant solution for it, so should the Lego designers. They have unlimited parts, including potentially new ones to choose from.
@@Producemgnfoodcity Yes it is not going to be perfect, no this is not just a kids toy. I suspect more adults are buying this for themselves than for their kids. Not only is the pricepoint too large for most gift sets, it is also from movies that came out more than 40 years ago. I know some kids are still into Star wars these days, but they are rare compared to the massive adult following.
The small box is not because it is better for the environment. They did this because they can then fit more boxes in a pallet, which mean because they pay logistic cost by volume, then it will end up saving them (Lego) significant amount of money per set. So lets not kid us that they are doing it for the environment.
An absolute beauty of a set. It’s like a mini UCS set and it being smaller doesn’t affect it and honestly it’s rly good because we have limited space and if the size works it works. The figure size is what you’d expect from Star Wars. $50 and under at least 5 figures, $50-100 3-4, 100-160 4-6.
I love how he always gets sets months before the official release , so if a potential buyer has some questions about a product can watch theese accurate reviews
@@blunzcsgoandmore9172I will add for anyone who doesn't understand: even if someone wants to be unbiased, it is much harder to care for the price of something when you get it for free (or cheap). And because you did not pay the money for the product, you will not treat it like a normal customer who spent their cash on the item. A lot of lego reviewers for example care much more about displayability and accuracy, because they typically have a ton of sets sitting next to each other, whereas a parent buying the toy for their child will be more concerned about the ease of building, the included characters, the build's sturdiness, interactive features etc. That child will get maybe 3 sets in one year, so size scale and accuracy are not that important.
He’s in LAN and sponsored by Lego. As many have pointed out, you can’t be an unbiased and objective reviewer if you don’t feel the pain of your money leaving your wallet when buying the product before reviewing it. It’s proven that even if you try your best, there’s a psychological factor you can’t get past if you received the product as a gift. So, he is inevitably biased, even if he tries his best.

Well this is the most expensive playset Star destroyer on retail actually 😅 But comparing the prices on the secondary market, then yeah, it is your most affordable option, enjoy your set ❤️❤️
Strangely enough, I think this model will actually scale almost perfectly to the Invisible Hand set, as the Imperial Star Destroyer was considerably wider than a Providence class ship (985.17 meters vs 198 meters), but only a little under twice as long (1,600 meters vs 1,088 meters). The height difference, for anyone curious, is 455.40 meters for the Star Destroyer vs 374 meters for the Providence.

I prefer the smaller size. I've been looking for a decent design for a large-scale MIDI star destroyer for a while now and I think with some slight modifications this will knock it out of the park. This looks moc-level almost, and the handle actually really sells it for me because sometimes handling mocs is HARD. The interior is just a neat bonus. Can't wait to get my hands on the instructions and expand the bottom panels to connect, setup a stand, and order all the parts. EDIT: The executor comparison sold me even more, holy crap.
The set, including the stickers the set looks amazing! I'm often very critical of stickers on Lego sets, but not here. Stickers on the outside peel off, but the inside, they'll remain as they won't be exposed to the elements.
I've been looking at this box and I've been thinking this set looks fantastic! Thank you SolidBrix I believe I'll be picking this up very very soon. Stay well dude!!!
I work for LEGO and the new 'open from the top' board game box style is also a new environmental choice! You'll notice the box flat-packs perfectly making it easier to recycle at home!! It seems to be fairly universal on all the June launches so I imagine it'll be fully integrated within a year!
I think it’s fine that Cal doesn’t have a poncho. This is the default suit and that outfit doesn’t have a poncho. LEGO is of course going to have the default outfit first. That’s my reasoning anyway.
When you’re paying 160 for a pseudo midi-scale set, trying to be pushed for a play scale sized set, it would’ve been a nice add on for fans. If you don’t like it, you can simply take it of
The big problem with this set in Australia is the cost is actually $181usd even after accounting for tax. The $199usd great hall that was put up at the same time is listed for the same AUD price as the star destroyer.
Ooh, I know its a little thing, but I like the new box style. Easy to open. When you compare the new one and the 2014 one, it really brings out how incomplete the back of the 2014 looks. More exposed engines, incomplete paneling, and the bridge tower is at a steeper incline.
Honestly, I'm not complaining with the minifigures because they all just barely fit in the ship together. Even if just one didn't fit, that would be enough to get young and older fans riled up.
I like the proportions on the new one and it being a little more compact works for me just fine with my space constraints. Growing up I really wanted one of the prior playsets, but this looks like the Star Destroyer I will finally own. Also, agree, Lego not having a poncho for Cal is truly criminal.
For those like me that do not have one in the collection, it is a must. But to be honest, I feel this ship should be given the attention the same as the Millennium Falcon. This ship is the iconic ship of the bad guys. It should alwags be available and always be being improved.
I think the only problem I have with this version is the bridge (the one where you set up minifigures). They had an amazing bridge layout on the first order star destroyer where the front and back extended to the outer edge of the ship and it looked more screen accurate to the normal shape. Other than that, I think it’s a decent set.
@@avationartThe design differences is more with the color scheme and computer details. If you look closely at the ISD bridge, the middle walkway connects to some sections that loop around the front, outside, and back of the pits. Some good shots of these are in Episode 5 with the introduction of the Executor where it shows the inside of the bridge and Vader looking out the front window, as well as one of the first scenes in Episode 7 where Kylo and Hux are walking along the middle walkway while arguing. If you look in the background of that scene, you can see what I mean.

Fun fact: the imperial commander included in this set is the same who reported to Darth Vader about the escape pod which R2 and C-3PO escaped with the death star plans
One thing to note: the carrying handle isn't new. The first order star destroyer I have, which is such a great set, has one. That came out in 2017, so it's not a game changing feature. You just forgot it. For an ISD, it's great. Looks good, feels good. Can't justify the price. Feels like I'm getting ripped off. I'd rather save and spend that on money to buy the ucs x wing to go along with my ucs tie interceptor.
He didn't forget, you're just misunderstanding. Most large sets since ~2010 have had a carrying handle. The thing that makes this one special is how it can be hidden inside the ship.
I have no Star Destroyer, never liked them until later this is perfect for me. I will personally getting more star destroyer technicians so I can have a full bridge.
The details are great! I just wish they kept the length because of the proportions that’s about it! This one does look way better by direct comparison for sure
good, i honestly loved how the first review on this set was this guy who is full of positivity and only mentions the flaws when they are *objectively* remarkable, it´s something i really missed on lego star wars reviews
It's great! Just finished building mine! Unfortunately, there were some obstacles as I got really sick just a day before it was delivered... Because of it, it took me almost 3,5 hours to assemble. But in the end, it was totally worth it and my inner child is 100% satisfied!
I'd be interested in a comparison between this one and the 2006 ISD, which itself was quite a bit larger than the 2014 ISD. Rough calculation has the 2024 model being around 3/4 of the length of the 2006 one.
@@johncampbell8405 I guess so, I really love this set, but “only the best is good enough” is kinda valid I guess, because $160 is a ton of money for a singular plastic toy
Yep I already know I’m gonna be picking up 2 of these!:3 though I’m still trying to catch up on some sets retiring this year:_ these include: 1 more Coruscant Guard Republic Gunship. 2 Mandalorian and Tie Interceptor dogfight packs. 1 New Republic E-Wing and Shin Hati’s Star fighter dogfight pack. 1 more Tie Bomber. Yoda’s Jedi Star fighter. 3 more Stormtrooper mechs. Darth Vader mech. Boba Fett mech. Mandalorian Spider tank 6 more 332nd Clone Trooper Battle Packs. And finally 6 more 501st Specialty Clone Troopers Battle Packs.
The set is quite a bit smaller than the 2014 version which was already downsized from the '06 version. The bridge also looks significantly worse with far less space, and obviously the minifigure selection is lacking. But the exterior and the larger "half" of the interior are downright beautiful. The hologram table is an excellent feature as well. I think the rear half of the interior is a huge upgrade over the 2014 interior. Rather than a new Star Destroyer set, in the future I'd like to see them recreate the Executor in playset form, as maybe a 200-250 dollar set. They could include the bridge, and then either the room where Vader converses with the Emperor or his meditation chamber, along with a small area to hold some Stormtroopers. That would be a more interesting possibility for me.
As someone who doesn’t have that much space, the smaller size is perfect for me. Definitely getting this set.

Can't wait to get my hands on the instructions and expand the bottom panels to connect, setup a stand, and order all the parts.
EDIT: The executor comparison sold me even more, holy crap.
Unintended bonus: this set seemingly scales almost perfectly to the Invisible Hand.
The improvement on the detail is really impressive!
Utterly amazing set, love the details, thanks for the review, dude 😊
The rollout of the new imperial short destroyer class !
"I'm not that kind of RUclipsr" LOL
The set, including the stickers the set looks amazing!
I'm often very critical of stickers on Lego sets, but not here. Stickers on the outside peel off, but the inside, they'll remain as they won't be exposed to the elements.
❤ omg this set is nicer than I imagined. Can’t wait to get it. Thanks for the great review!!!!
Great review. Everything about this set from the boxing to the finished product is very appealing. I will definitely be getting this set in August.
I did not expect that box to be that thick
I've been looking at this box and I've been thinking this set looks fantastic! Thank you SolidBrix I believe I'll be picking this up very very soon.
Stay well dude!!!
Sheesh Lego must have put a bounty out on MandR. So many shots fired
I wasn't sure about the set, but after your review I'm definitely going to buy this! Great video
Looks great and agree with the mini fig critique
I work for LEGO and the new 'open from the top' board game box style is also a new environmental choice! You'll notice the box flat-packs perfectly making it easier to recycle at home!! It seems to be fairly universal on all the June launches so I imagine it'll be fully integrated within a year!
6:03 «My lord. Is that legal?»
“[LEGO] will make it legal.”
Definitely gonna buy it. The build looks great, and Cal Kestis is what tipped me over the edge on my decision to buy this set.
7 good minifigs is really nice. And the Star Destroyer is just an iconic set to have, no matter the size
I think it’s fine that Cal doesn’t have a poncho. This is the default suit and that outfit doesn’t have a poncho. LEGO is of course going to have the default outfit first. That’s my reasoning anyway.
I like it without the poncho as well, would cover up his torso printing
i also agree
When you’re paying 160 for a pseudo midi-scale set, trying to be pushed for a play scale sized set, it would’ve been a nice add on for fans. If you don’t like it, you can simply take it of
@@zennar1537and it's not that big of a deal since the game allows you to customize the character
BD-1 exclusion is a MUCH bigger issue to me.
The poncho isn’t important.
The big problem with this set in Australia is the cost is actually $181usd even after accounting for tax. The $199usd great hall that was put up at the same time is listed for the same AUD price as the star destroyer.
The smaller boxes are kinda weird to get used to. Even tho it's just a cardboard box, it kinda removes a "wow factor" of getting a big set imo hahaha
“I’m not that type of RUclipsr.” 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
they’ll need to buy that stormtrooper mech to get their second stormtrooper
I will for sure be picking this one up. The only thing I would change is to add another mini fig like a grand moff tarkin
Lego isn’t that nice. 😂😂
definitely getting this set
Ooh, I know its a little thing, but I like the new box style. Easy to open.
When you compare the new one and the 2014 one, it really brings out how incomplete the back of the 2014 looks. More exposed engines, incomplete paneling, and the bridge tower is at a steeper incline.
Honestly, I'm not complaining with the minifigures because they all just barely fit in the ship together. Even if just one didn't fit, that would be enough to get young and older fans riled up.
Mate I was sitting right on the fence with this set but you’ve absolutely sold me on it. Lego owes you a huge favour 🤝🏻
You went ham with the editing at the end, there is jump cut after every phrase.
I don’t know if this counts as a Star Destroyer play-set but in 2017 the first order Star Destroyer was released. 0:40
4:14 The headpiece would look good for a custom Cere Junda figure, Cal Kestis' mentor!!!
Yup!
I like the proportions on the new one and it being a little more compact works for me just fine with my space constraints. Growing up I really wanted one of the prior playsets, but this looks like the Star Destroyer I will finally own. Also, agree, Lego not having a poncho for Cal is truly criminal.
Great video as always! Thanks for the reliable content :)
Other than that, I think it’s a decent set.
isn't that just because the first order star destroyers and ISDs have a different design? This model looks just like an on screen ISD.
@@terminatort9254 the design of the resurgent class and ISD are completely different tho
@terminatort9254 the executor isn't a ISD btw, the ISD Bridge looks similar
@@avationartI never said the Executor was an ISD, it’s just that all the Star destroyer bridges are very similar, which is my point.
I used to watch people like MandRproductions, but you are now my new go-to for reviews. You are not all whiny and complaining like Ryan
Not if but one of the most goated Lego RUclipsrs of all time 🗣️💯
YES I've been collecting since 2018 and I've wanted a playscale destroyer since day 1. It's literally a dream come true for me!
You know LEGO got excited when they saw Cal can be seen/played without a poncho. They took that opportunity to cut a corner in a heartbeat.
Crazy how it’s been 10 years since we got one of the most iconic space ships of all time in Lego play scale
You would have made a great English teacher. I love your channel because your reviews are not only objective and real but also easy and understandable. I like your tone and gesture too. I totally agree with your impressions and opinion. Thanks for great review! I can't wait to get this set.
Aurebesh translator here! Just so you know, the sticker with the droids on it says "The Droids We're Looking For", and the cargo crate of course just says "Cargo". I noticed that Lego used some of the special letters with the droid sign, like the double-Os and the Th
I find his lack of poncho disturbing
Dang, dude. You actually beat Mandr on this one, congrats! I enjoy both y’all videos!
Where does MandR even get his?
@@brandon-frandsenusually he gets them from retailers selling them way too early. If it released somewhere he’ll snag it at 2-3x the reg price.
LOL this set comes from Lego due to LAN and Ryan/MANDR has to hustle to get his otherwise when he cares to do so. Not sure why you are surprised
The details are great! I just wish they kept the length because of the proportions that’s about it! This one does look way better by direct comparison for sure
MandR is gonna be salty he didn't get the first review out 😂
good, i honestly loved how the first review on this set was this guy who is full of positivity and only mentions the flaws when they are *objectively* remarkable, it´s something i really missed on lego star wars reviews
That man is always salty he’s such a baby
It's great! Just finished building mine!
Unfortunately, there were some obstacles as I got really sick just a day before it was delivered... Because of it, it took me almost 3,5 hours to assemble. But in the end, it was totally worth it and my inner child is 100% satisfied!
YES
I'd be interested in a comparison between this one and the 2006 ISD, which itself was quite a bit larger than the 2014 ISD. Rough calculation has the 2024 model being around 3/4 of the length of the 2006 one.
good vid
This set looks alot better than i thought it would be! Definitely getting this when it comes out
Mandr is gonna be pissed
Why
@@somerandomguy4943 He always is.
@@johncampbell8405 I guess so, I really love this set, but “only the best is good enough” is kinda valid I guess, because $160 is a ton of money for a singular plastic toy
Yep I already know I’m gonna be picking up 2 of these!:3 though I’m still trying to catch up on some sets retiring this year:_ these include:
1 more Coruscant Guard Republic Gunship.
2 Mandalorian and Tie Interceptor dogfight packs.
1 New Republic E-Wing and Shin Hati’s Star fighter dogfight pack.
1 more Tie Bomber.
Yoda’s Jedi Star fighter.
3 more Stormtrooper mechs.
Darth Vader mech.
Boba Fett mech.
Mandalorian Spider tank
6 more 332nd Clone Trooper Battle Packs.
And finally 6 more 501st Specialty Clone Troopers Battle Packs.
David > Ryan
Totally right
Awesome review!! The minifigures look awesome!! Can’t wait to get this set
I missed out on the 2014 version. This one looks great for what you get, even at the price. Hope to get it soon.
2014 is more chunky, while 2024 is more accurate
This is the first lego set i've ever pre ordered and i'm super excited
Lego needs to STOP downsizing their sets. It sucks!
Cry harder
It truly does! 😞
Smaller sets, higher prices, L greed
This set is 20$ less than the last one and is much more detailed than the last one.
@@amorgan5787 who asked
The very first Star destroyer was still the best 😌
So glad I own that.
Lucky Lad
woah the jab at mandr lmaoo
I can't wait to get this set. Great review too.
My man got the pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-order
