- We are thrilled to announce the early access launch of the all new DCS: Kola map by Orbx. This latest addition to our growing list of maps offers you a new ‘green’ terrain, covering one of the most spectacular peninsulas in the world. At the frontiers of northern Scandinavia and Russia, DCS: Kola offers impressive immersion and great new game play opportunities for WWII, Cold War and Modern combat scenarios.
The DCS: Kola map spans an extensive area that features the rugged terrain and dramatic coastlines that define the Kola Peninsula. It covers northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Russian Murmansk Oblast and parts of the Karelia region. The map also includes large areas of the Barents Sea and Norwegian Sea to the north and west, ideal for aircraft carrier operations. The DCS: Kola map by Orbx is based on the current-day with some allowance for late-Cold War military features and functionality.

Unfortunately as far as I tested last night, Hornet pilot physics haven't changed that much so not sure if this is from upcoming update? 😊

@@ziepex7009 Same way that I saw the 'knee-located' kneeboard in the last big update trailer... nowhere to be seen in the game. Would be much more immersive without a huge kneeboard on screen.

This is the kind of map I've been most excited for. Enough with the bloody deserts! More EU / Russia / China / Vietname stuff. Oh, and ED, fix your trees! AI Tanks can see and shoot through them!

Any chance for an F-117? That would be incredible on a map like this in a 1980's NATO vs Warsaw pact campaign.

The majority of the modules didn't show up either. It's just a 2 minute long trailer...
Not a lot of F15's at the Kola Peninsula 😉 F16 (now retired and in museums)/F35 from Norway, Viggen/Gripen from Sweden and some F18 from Finland.

I recently upgraded from DCS 2.7 to 2.9.4 (finally new computer). Believe me, with such a big "jump" you can really see the DIFFERENCE AND DEVELOPMENT of DCS World.
I'm also glad that the simulator is 15 years old and still sets trends in this topic.
Which doesn't mean ED that I forget, you have some catching up to do 😁. Personally, I'm waiting for the P-51B/C, because the D version is a bit old.

Feels like it is highlighting the jets more than the terrain.
I was struggling to see the actual terrain. Cuts were too fast and half the time it was clouds,jets,cockpits. Beautiful as always. But not quite what I wanted.

probably still so much work in progress it cant stand the light of the day. looks like it's gonna be very beautiful once done tho!
Watch some videos, you will see why they didn’t highlight the terrain, especially down low. I can remember how gorgeous the S/A map looked in the teasers and then when I saw it for real…..not so gorgeous. In fact at rotor level it was awful.

I loved that game. Best atmosphere of any 90s sim.
DID EF2000 has been my first serious flight sim back in '95, yep those fjords remind me of that sim!
Yeah I loved that one! I remember Fjords and super gloomy weather, and the run to destroy an airfield with durandals!

I don't think this should be $55 for the promise of improved textures and quality in the future. It should be like $30 now and then $25 when to upgrade in the future like the Ka-50.
Finally mountainous terrain in Europe to fly. I wish the Caucasus Map was brought to the same level, something like Caucasus 4.0 I think I'm going to buy this one. Thanks ED/Orbx.

I believe there is a French NH90 in dcs being used by their military but that one is not available to the public.

145GB!!!!... And this is not the full version of the map yet. This is already some kind of madness... I'm not ready to allocate such a space on my hard disk for the sake of one UNFINISHED map.

Map setup should allow to select a different hard drive! My c: is full and I have a D: empty…
I feel you on this. I had to get a 1TB M2 drive dedicated just for DCS.

You'd be better off moving the entire install to a different disk (solid state obviously) for performance reasons anyway. Also, symlinks can be used if you absolutely have to.
Can you guys update Caucasus map?
Its our oldest map, using Hybrid map tech to even have it included. To redo would be a major undertaking so right now we are focused on new areas of the world. We may comeback to it in the future. Thanks! -NineLine/Norm

@@Razumist People ask this all the time, they probably wont ever fix it/upgrade it.
Besides, you can just install that mod that makes FC3 aircraft somewhat clickable, decent compromise.
@@Razumist I think most players getting into DCS have a rough idea of a module they're inserted in flying.
This is going to be a good map once it's finalized.

Fantastic trailer as usual, and great pilot movements now! The main wish I have now is better trees. Currently they look very similar, and they don’t match the tree types and density found in the far north. Any chance of an update to the DCS trees?
even the high detail area is pretty underwhelming, and big as it is 145GB is just completely insane, we're talking double the size of Syria map, something stinks here its almost like they didn't bother compressing any of the textures or something? Its only going to get bigger as well with the winter textures and more detail being added....
Exalent map. I literally spent 5 hours just flying around. The HD areas are just stunning. I can't wait to get back at it tomorrow.
You do realize this map has set the bar up to a very high level.
Oh and I only have 201 gigs left on my m.2 I sure hope Afghanistan isn't over 150 gigs.
When is South Atlantic Map going look this good. It is still in Early Access also.

Excited? Yes. Scenery looks great and it's close to home. Still a bit disappointed by such limited content on EA. Some more airfields and POI would have been nice at launch...

By reading the comments i'm inferring that Kola has to do with Scandinavia but I still don't know what exact area it covers .. is there a map we can look at that shows us what's covered?

Don’t get fooled by a good trailer, the map is pretty horrible and WAY overpriced, that’s caucasus level of texture
Eagle Dynamics - if you want to keep the RNOAF F-16 realistic, you HAVE to add the chute brake tail, as it was standard.

Nice map but I decided I will keep my money in my wallet until it is finished. ED has too much unfinished stuff and it's starting to get tired. The Sirya map did not get a serious update until a year after its release....
