- In this tutorial I'll go through how to make a nice text effect using Animation Nodes and splines. This is not a complete beginner tutorial, I'll assume that you have a basic understanding about AN. This effect is useful for motion graphics, logo intros etc :)
If you've never used AN, I suggest this tutorial series by CGmatter:

This took quite a bit longer to make than I expected... Since it was so long already, I decided to skim over the animation/rendering setup part quite quickly. If you are new to animation/keyframes/etc, you can watch my "Animation Basics" tutorial that's shown in the end screen! :)
If you've never used Animation Nodes, CGmatter has a good beginner tutorial series to get you started:

Kindly keep making videos like these. We need people like you.
You sir, are a math wizard as per this video. I would of done so many things differently because i lack this math knowledge you posess. Great video! Keep them coming.
Love the Blender, love the philosophical, musical, discussions! Keep it coming :)
wow! this was the coolest AN text effect I saw so far. And I did it without screwing up for the first time as well, thanks to your nice presentation!
Follow your heart, man! I am loving your videos and discussions. ❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I feel it really placed me some levels up from where I was with Animation nodes. Please keep making such good tutorials. It will be nice to see what more motion graphics effects can be done with Animation nodes.
I appreciated your 3D tutorials even afterwards.
Like the Music and Human Cultural points.
Keep sharing! 😀
Great channel! Keep doing what you like to do. I’ve learned so much, thank you!
If I want to see pure Blender at high speed, I'll watch Curtis Holt, or any of the crazy 1-minute blender tutorials (I learn so many "solutions" from those). I wouldn't mind yours being faster-paced, but it's totally fine for me the way you did this too. As a software engineer, I love how Blender has incorporated some basic coding in a purely visual way. Reminds me of back in the early 90s when every program started out with pen+paper drawing flowcharts. Thanks for showing the capabilities of it for complex stuff, rather than just tutorials using 5 nodes to do something trivial.
super interresting, very organic sc fi reveal. A lot of creativity and technicity, really appreciate
Thank you very much, Tony!
I personally like the philosophical side of your videos very much and I share your appreciation for the music from JS Bach :)
Subscribed to both of your channels.
*Nice tutorial dude)*
Ty for helping to know something new!
Cool. Thanks a lot.
so cool! thanks :D
Awesome
Excellent Blender tutorial and even better advise on dealing with Covid-19! Subbed!
Do what you want as how you want :) iam happy to be part of your channel .
you are doing great job love from India
Who invented this setup of nodes?! It's brilliant :)
Well I don't know if I'm the first one to use this, probably not, but I did come up with it myself :) Thanks!
I used this tutorial to outline some text on my Animated business card, but have ran into an issue with my playback frame rate, also in the timeline I have 2 blue lines and one is way ahead of the other. I use to get 10fps now it slows down to a couple, and music now doesn't line up with the animation , i have tried all the suggestions on how to get better FPS but to no avail
thinking the added animation nodes have made my FPS suffer
Let's say the spline average goes from -8 to +8 depending on the x axis location of the letter. How come they start from left to right and not from right to left when the arrow moves? from -8 it takes longer to make it to 1. I can't understand this. I'm a beginner.
Can this tutorial be followed for any other mesh object except text ?
Yes, it should work if you just convert the mesh to a curve first. There's ways to do this effect straight from a mesh object, but the AN setup would be a bit different.
Hey maahn.. I honestly dont see any problem with you talking of stuff outside blender.. I am also curious to know if this tutorial works with EEVEE coz my laptop cant handle heavy stuff with cycles..
Thanks, good to hear also from those who don't mind the non-blender stuff :) Yes, this works well enough with Eevee, especially with bloom activated. I just really wanted to get the effect of the bright splines illuminating the ground around them, which you can't really get as well with Eevee.
@24:03, it's unclear where you are scaling those values down. I Think it's the "XYZ Euler" values, right?
It's the Scale X, Y and Z values. I just selected the object and hit "S" on the keyboard to scale the object uniformly.
At 10:15, I don't have an iteration input in Invoke subprogram - Falling spines
If you've already added an iterator to the Loop input node, the "iteration" input disappears from the Invoke subprogram node.
@@SketchesForHumanity So what do I do?
In the Falling splines loop you don't need the iterations input. It's supposed to disappear when you add the spline list iterator to the Loop input node.
why I can't find the animation node editor? pls help
Have you downloaded and installed the Animation Nodes addon from animation-nodes.com?
2.93 doesn't have AV Sync
Are u from Finland?
Yes I am :)

2.9 not working ...
works fine
Such a GREAT tutorial! Thank you! I'm fairly new to Blender and Animation Nodes, but I was able to follow along and produce the desired effect! I was wondering if you'd answer a question for me. I'm trying to do a mashup of your animation nodes effect and the countdown on this video: ruclips.net/video/nf79mn71SYA/видео.html However, I can't figure out how to go from the text object he's outputting to splines in order to invoke your subprograms. Thanks in advance for any advice!!!!
Thank you! Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a way to dynamically go from a text object to splines without converting the text to a curve object first :/ A text object in Blender doesn't hold any splines as the curve object does, at least not any that are reachable with Python, which is what Animation Nodes uses.
@@SketchesForHumanity Thank you for the response. If you wanted to apply this same effect to 30 different objects (for say a 30 second countdown), how would you do it? Some sort of loop to iterate through a collection?
Yeah, basically just another loop level where you loop through every object in the collection, and inside that loop you can then invoke these effect loops :) It might get a little slow if there's a lot of objects, but it should work alright..
