- We finally have functional particles in the Blender master branch! They're a work in progress, and there's not a lot of features yet, but in this video I'll show the basic process of setting up your first particle node system :)

Thanks for the helpful video, I also really enjoyed the part at the end.
So no one will talk about that "Thought Tinkering" part of the video. That's very interesting and calming to watch. Thank you for that video segment. You've got a new subscriber. :]
I agree. Not only is it good advice and helathy views you are giving there, beiing in nature and focusing on the moment clears your head for inspiration in general and artistically as well. A point often overlooked by many (anyone knows artistic blockage :) )
Wow, for some reason RUclips duplicated my comment. Idk how it happened btw
@@boriswilsoncreations I was going to say, why did you repeat yourself? Haha
3D artist lives in wilderness. What kind of fantasy earth are you living? What a beautiful life. And love your video a lot. Thank you so much.
Thank you, Chris :) I am very lucky to be living in northern Finland where we have a lot of beautiful nature relatively close to us!
Update: Particle nodes have been put on hold by the developers, so in the latest versions there's no longer the option to try these out. The developement is now focusing on Geometry Nodes, which I also have some videos about. Check them out while we're all waiting to get particle nodes back :)
Thank you I was getting crazy trying to test this..!!! Thank you for your videos from Madrid , Spain!! 🤣🤣
Can we get the nodes of the animation in the beginning? It's awesome!
@@lajawi. The nodes wouldn't be of much use, because these particle nodes don't work anymore :/ They got postponed when the dev team shifted the focus to geometry nodes, and the upcoming particle nodes will probably end up looking a bit different.
@@SketchesForHumanity I got 2.91 Alpha, even after the release of 2.92 Alphas, so I can use it.
The thought tinkering bit caught me off guard and forced me to relax my mind :)
Besides the nodes, I enjoyed your insights about the berry picking even more. Getting to know the Finnish culture more is beautiful. Plus the concept of 3D and mindfulness is fantastic. We Designers barely focus on the moment as we always solve other people's problems from the past and future. Thanks 🙏
Thank you! I'm glad that you enjoyed the thought tinkering part also :) I agree that a lot of artists could benefit hugely from some simple mindfulness practices. Many artists do tap into the present moment when they get a good flow going, but it's always better to be conscious about it, and to try and bring that presence elsewhere also.
Btw, nice high quality videos on your channel also! Keep it going :)
That’s a truly exciting new feature, thanks for walking us through it with some practical examples and explanations. Also, amazing the berries thing at the end, giving us a little taste of the wonderful Finland. Thank you!
Shift + Left Arrow Key will put unthreatening playhead on frame 1.
Thanks for this video, can’t wait to see more!
This video just was so sweet, really enjoyed it!
Awesome video, please keep making these! :D Thanks for sharing.
Wow. Including the wholesome berry picking segment. That's something new. I love it. Beautiful. I'll subscribe thank you very much!
very nice intro :) it's pretty easy to adapt to as it's similar to the shader editor, love it, especially because it's looking very flexible. can't wait for that :)
This is so exciting! Thank you for the video.
absolutely beautiful
this reminds me of the particles system in fusion 9, glad something like this is in blender
This was so nice to watch, your voice is easy to listen to, you explained everything, and the whole atmosphere was refreshingly relaxed. I'm already brimming with ideas for this new feature! The aside about berry picking was nice as well, it made me think of going blueberry picking in New Hampshire USA as a child, we would canoe out to the islands to pick berries and eat lunch, always making sure to leave plenty for the local fauna. I'll be tuning in regularly from now on, much love good sir.
Love how your monitor stand is a palletgun box
And it's not even mine.. It's the box of my brother's really old pallet gun from like 15 years ago, and it somehow ended up at our office where I picked it up from :D
Great Video! excellent content!
Very cool introduction. I really enjoyed the video.
Others have already said it but the berry picking at the end of this was incredibly delightful.
this is amazing~
Truth is, we artists get very excited when super star coders like the beautiful person flex their coding muscles for the software we all love: Blender. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You're awesome.
Thanks. I love the berry picking
Ooo.. Love that I came for procedural particles, and ended up with a lovely Thought Tinkerings at the end! Wonderful!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
@@SketchesForHumanity I did! Will look for more content.
Awesome!!!
good work!!
2 minutes in and I'm already amazed
in the beginning i accidentally clicked on 11:44 to watch the video. I was very impressed and thought it looked almost like a real thing. A very impressive CGI.... (rofl after a few seconds)
About time!
great, thanks :)
nice dude, ty
Also I think this "Thought Tinkering" part absolutely wonderful and more people could have such a little sidetrack in their videos! CGMatter or Curtis Holt for instance have separate videos on mindfulness topics they only regulary sidetrack for sponsors or patreon channel promo (Which I would not condemn! I love supporting them as well!) but having a 3rd track might be too much ;]
Thank you very much. Very very very much.
Keep up with blender 💖💖
Very nice that you go to the point to show off the capabilities that make it valuable to have a graph network 🙏! For some time I though well that's all cool, but why?! And then: AH! THAT's WHY! 🥰
excelente, saludos desde argentna
omg nodes are kinda amazing, just messing with them a bit, end up spend like 3 hours xD
I love your channel. Use the examples of these video in GN would be great.
Amazing! With all the great nodes systems added lately (like this and Sorcar) Blender will become a non-brain aneurysm inducing version of Houdini in a couple of years :P
Have you ever used Houdini?
@@gwynbleidd9000 : Unfortunately no, but I've watched a ton of tutorials on how its node based procedurally workflow is hard to get into, but when you've first learned it's way of working you can create pretty much everything.
Thanks for this great video! Is this a potential way to finally work with particles + rigid bodies? (even now in 2022 with geometry nodes and "molecular" being so difficult to master?)
So good looking cloudberry! Congrats from Russia! :)
Thanks a lot! :)
Wow, i have never heard about those berries! Now i want to taste them. How unexpected, i thought i knew all the kinds of berries in existence.
Oh yeah, they're very tasty! Rich in vitamin C also :) I think they're naturally occuring in all continents up north (canada, nordic countries, russia..), but yeah, many people don't know about them!
Whaaat??? Wow!!!
Finally...
This guy is Scandanavian AF. Look at him. Look at him!
Yup..
Somehow I found the berry picking segment more interesting than the node based particles :) We're a nation of mushroom pickers btw.
I would love it if you could give links for the Blender Build Process you used. I've been wanting to do that for some time now.
This is the first time I've seen a 4k option for the resolution.
great video man! I have a question: what software are you using to screen record, and also how do you get your interface to look so sharp while zooming in? thanks!
Thanks! I use OBS, with a very high bitrate and a keyframe interval of just 1, for speedy editing and also better quality on RUclips.
For the zoom I just use the Windows magnifier while recording, works great! And it has a handy ctrl+alt+scrollwheel shortcut, too.
@@SketchesForHumanity awesome! thanks for replying!
If they're making particles procedural, they should do the same for pyro and fracturing. Simulations need more love in blender.
So why has this gone quite, would really like to give this a go
I'll just have to live with the fact that my life will never be as awesome as his hair. 😢
Dude hat turbulence enabled when he was recording this video
This guy looks like if Ton and Where's Waldo had a baby.
Multebær!
Particles use a CPU or GPU for compute that? in viewport i say.
I guess there is no object instancing for point clouds (or any other way of actually visualizing the particles) yet?
Actually there is now! It came after I published this video, but in the latest build you can set object instancing for the point cloud :) It seems like it doesn't show up in the f12 render yet though, just in viewport renders. The instances respect the "radius" attribute, which is nice!
@@SketchesForHumanity I don't see any settings under "Point Cloud" (Aug 11 build) or do I have to configure this via a node?
@@benibachmann9274 Oh yeah, you have to parent your instance object (e.g. a sphere) under the point cloud, and then go to the object menu -> instancing submenu, and choose "Points". Then probably also hide the original instance object for better visibility. I hope that helps! :)
@@SketchesForHumanity Yes, this totally helps! :D Many thanks! Btw: For me the particles also show up in the f12 render (using cycles)
Hyvä demo!
Tulee vahvat animation nodes fiilikset tuosta uudesta particle nodesta, varmasti kova kun valmistuu :)
Kävitkö missäpäin lappia hillastamassa?
Kiitos!
@@SketchesForHumanity Uskon :)
Niinpä! Varmasti tulee hyvä kokonaisuus kun on valmis. Vuosi-pari kun jaksaa vaan odottaa :D
those are good speakers
Yep, Yamaha HS8's :) Not very high-end or anything, but plenty good for what I'm doing.. The biggest problem right now is my room, but hopefully that changes in the near future!
@@SketchesForHumanity they have a great frequency response for affordable monitors. Do you also produce?
@@Skyefaux pssst: 🕵️♀️description 😉
Anyone got the object for particle attribute working? name object/instance seems to do nothing but if you don't add something to the name field it crashes when you play the sim.
They changed it in 2.93. I sure hope they fix things to enable me to do what your doing. Otherwise I would have run an older version
Yeah particle nodes are on hold, unfortunately.. Let's hope the devs bring them back soon, once Geometry Nodes have a solid foundation :)
Nice can you share your Build, i dont seem to have the experimental feature on mine (1st of August version 2.91)
Sorry, I forgot to mention that in order to see the "Experimental" tab in the preferences, you first have to enable the "Developer Extras" option in the Interface tab.
Hyva hyva!
I’m going to need to get a new computer for this I feel :D
i didnt try it but i could do similar stuff in other progs even on my old core2duo from 2006 no problem.
So sad...never downloaded the alpha...those particle nodes are exactly what I'd need right now...there's no chance to download 2.92 alpha anymore right? qq
Yeah, it's sad that particle nodes were put on hold.. then again, they're now fully working on geometry nodes, which seems to be a long term solution. And it's scratching my "procedural motion graphics" itch pretty well :D
I'm sure you could find the old builds on the web, but there's not much point since the feature set was still so limited..
Hi, How can we install Blender 2.93 on windows7, any suggestions ... thanks
Hi, go to www.blender.org/download/ and you can download the installer from there :)
edit: ah, sorry, I missed the win7 part. I think win7 support has ended by Microsoft so it isn't so safe to use anymore. That's why the Blender Foundation decided to also drop the win7 support of Blender..
How to set a material to a particle system?
Does this replace the current particle system?
Eventually yes, but not for some time.. when it does there will be a nice set of default node groups that cover all the basic use cases, so that people don't have to dive into the nodes if they don't want/need to.
What screen do You use?
It's an HP z27s IPS UHD screen. A few years old, but very good quality!
@@SketchesForHumanity thank You.
ı downloaded 2.91 version but there is no particle node implementation at all where can ı find it sorry for my ignorance. please some help me
Copied from another answer:
The function/particle nodes kind of died out when the dev team started working on the new geometry nodes. There's a branch for that, but it doesn't have these dynamic particles yet. They'll come later.
The geometry nodes are a bit more universal system, designed to also include procedural modeling, set dressing, etc. Unfortunately it means that the particles got delayed, but fortunately they'll be able to use some of the code later when dynamic particles get the focus again..
Hope that helps :)
@@SketchesForHumanity AHH THANKS A LOT I GOT CONFUSED AND BECOME FURİOUS WHİLE I WAS TRYİNG TO FİND OUT WHAT İS GOİNG ON. THANKS AGAİN ::)
@@SketchesForHumanity But it was a very good implementation ı hoped they didn't take it even if temporarly removed
4:35 those passage should be done by default once you create a new simulation, this probably will happen later...
anyone still remembers softimage ice?
F for particle nodes
Sir, I want to make a particles to mesh simulation, please kindly help me
So you want to calculate a mesh from a pointcloud? AFAIK that's not possible in Blender right now. I think it is planned for the future, but no one knows when that feature would come..
@@SketchesForHumanity Sir, do you know how to do things similiar to that in blender 2.8 or 2.9? Can the glowing tree animation you did in 2.8 functional can be done in 2.91@?
Pro tip: use Steam to manage your Blender.
2.91 haven't experimental feature 1 august 2020
Sorry, I forgot to mention that in order to see the "Experimental" tab in the preferences, you first have to enable the "Developer Extras" option in the Interface tab.
@@SketchesForHumanity Really helpful mention!! Thanks .
How fix every distributes blender 2.8 ♥

Thank you! It's super nice to get feedback on that segment, since it's a very important part of the videos for me personally :)
