Thank you so much for this video! I’m a 50-something woman who has never done any kind of diy. Your very clear instructions gave me the confidence to give it a go and am thrilled to say I succeeded! I’m crazy proud of myself.
Quick and easy repair! Took longer to go and buy the part than it did to install it! I am at the beginner of the beginner level, and it was easy to follow this process! All of Roger’s videos are great!!! Thank you!
Thank you!! As a 70 year old female on a fixed income....I always try to do as many DIY projects as possible. Your video helped me feel really secure in this project and it works perfectly. Finally the end of the "singing toilet".
My son has a new apartment, first out of college. He sent me a text at 5:30 am. There was water under the tank. Turns out the fill valve was stopping at various locations and in this instance the fill valve floater didn't stop rising. Water was leaking from the handle. My son and I worked on it together and now he knows how simple this job can be. Not only did you save me money but also worry and anxiety! You communicate so clearly. Thank you so much for this video!
Pro tip, you can do the swap in about 30 seconds if you already have a fluid Master fill valve. After you turn the water off release the height adjusting collar, take off the old upper half of the fill valve then slide on the new. Lock the adjusting collar back in place and you're done. No need to take off the lower section of the fill valve or the supply line.
Roger, I just wanted to say Thank You. I am terrible with home improvent stuff. Your detailed instructions on the fill valve were outstanding. I can't believe I did!
I didn't think I could do this I'm a female and 57yrs old I watched this video while waiting on a plumber and went and did out myself so easy Try out folks Free is always in.
Nicely done, Roger. I just completed the repair based upon your video. It truly was as easy as you said it was. Perhaps even easier. I was originally going to call a plumber but then I thought "let's see how bad it is to repair...let's see what youtube has to say." Boy am I glad I took the time to find a video on how to do this myself. It might have been a bummer had the shut-off valve not worked correctly, but it gave me no problems whatsoever. I appreciate your "to the point" approach to making these videos, and especially going the extra mile to show the cut-away view so we can see what is really going on in the tank. My "screaming" toilet is screaming no more thanks to a new fill valve that I installed in less than 30 minutes. Thanks for the guidance, and please keep making these excellent videos.
I just replaced one today. First ever “plumbing” diy job I did. It’s amazingly easy to change out and get it working right. The hardest part is making sure the valve is set at the correct height, but even that is super simple stuff
did this on a toilet that wasnt filling up after flushing. works like a charm. even that exact model of fill valve. im not a plumber and have basic skills and was able to do.
If you buy the same model valve you don't have to remove the entire valve, just the top portion that's in the tank , you can still use the old stem that's connected to the bottom of the tank. Just lose the cufflink, slide out the old valve, replace the new valve in the same old stem and tighten the cufflink. Done.
This video helped save me a ton of money! Thank you so much! I hope that you and Paul Jr. put your differences aside real soon and start working together again.
I'm trying to stop the water from draining in the bowl as my tank is attempting to fill. I just installed the FluidMaster 400ah and the tank only fills about 4 inches and the water just keeps draining into the bowl. I have a better understanding of how the parts work after watching your video (and I've watched a lot of videos) and I think I will be able to fix it. Love your teaching style!
Thank you so much for this video - I was able to do this!! I also changed out the supply line because it did leak when I put it back on, when I looked inside I didn't even see a washer - so that was also very helpful advice. Aside for saving some money it gave me a nice sense of accomplishment. Thanks, again!!
Thank you!! Ours has been broken for almost a year, pipe of fill valve was cracked and would just run all the time...your video made it look so easy, and it was!!!! The one in there was so old it was mostly metal so it was very hard to get the locknutt off. But thank you for the confidence to be able to do it myself!!
This was great! I tried to replace the full thing but old waterline said no, so I tried to replace just the top half the lock would NOT cooperate.. so I took the top apart gave it a good cleaning until I can get to the store and get a replacement flex waterline, and then yank that sucker out replace that and the valve, and leave my husband wondering what happened to the awful squealing sound, when any place in the house used water.. (all three bathrooms are on my hit list, thanks hard water build up)
Hi Roger. Big thanks from me, your step by step instructions helped a novice do this fill valve swap in under a half hour. Thank you many times over sir!
My son & I were laughing while fixing 2 toilets!! Actually had fun together! The second toilet did leak because we didn’t put the rubber gasket in the bottom of the stem inside the toilet. Another good laugh and quick fix. Thanks!!
Your videos are great! I like that you put the steps and pro tips in the upper corner (maybe keep them up longer though). This has helped so much! Subscribed for sure
You need to show and explain in detail how to adjust and lock in the height adjustment. And, the novice DIY person may not know things that we take for granted. Such as, lefty-loosie ,righty tightly. Your videos are excellent.
great video, short and on target, covers everything. I'm just an office jock and over the years I've replaced fill valves several times. This video has it all with great pointers along the way. Thanks!
Also, before all this started happening, my other drains in kitchen and bathroom sink quit emptying. and That began last November when flushing the toilet bowl caused a "burping back"noise in the kitchen sink drain.
Ok, I bought the part and I’ve been procrastinating on this project for at least 3 weeks (flushing manually with a bucket). I have a feeling I’m going to feel like an idiot for not just getting it done! 🙄 I changed my garbage disposer after watching a RUclips video- surely I can do this! In hindsight, it’s an old house, and I was afraid when I turned off the valve it was going to snap off in my hand and flood my bathroom and then I’d run outside to shut it off at the meter and that old rusty valve would snap off, and then… Well, the fill valve works fine, but it’s cycling on about every 10 seconds, and I can hear water running in to the drain.😫 Going to have to see how to fix that now…
Mr. Wakefield, do you have any videos on adjusting a floatless fill valve? I have the type that has a plastic diaphragm at the base of the tank. Seems to be a rare beast in the float valve community. ;-)
Mr. Wakefield I really appreciate your videos. I have been watching one about the toilet and I have noticed the tank is very slow to fill up. I have noticed in the four years we have lived here the tank takes longer to fill up. Water quality is good and a gut feeling is the line is getting clogged. I am guessing the fill valve needs to be replaced. If I am wrong could you please tell me. Thank you and GOD Bless you and your family
I liked almost everything. The only thing I didn't like was the side shot. The side shot should instead focus on a closeup shot of the item(s). Do more cutting to close-ups and back to you. - Dane
Nice work, 1 thing that was confusing that you may be able to edit in a picture of is the gasket. It was up, down, flipped and quickly done where I couldn't see it. I'm sure I'll find it on the instructions but just saying that part was a bit unclear.
I have replaced many float valves in my toilets over the years and was really happy to find out I just needed to clean them. I have to shut the toilets off in the winter and put antifreeze in them but always get a bunch of dirt and sand when I turn the water back on. Now I know how to clean the dirt out of that top part, thank you. Do you have a good video of getting a bathtub with a clean out drain cleared? I have tried boiling water, vinegar and baking soda, and plunged the crap out of it. I put the snake down the clean out but I don't think it went far enough. Don't want to use chemicals bad for the septic system. I guess I will try the snake again, been using those since I was a kid.
I’m sure you’ve long fixed your problem, but maybe this will help someone else. Try Green Gobbler (Home Depot). I think it’s safe for septic systems, and it isn’t caustic like drain cleaner. It works with enzymes.
Thank you! For some reason my nut on the hose is stuck and seems to be “attached” to the fill valve inside. When I turn the nut the whole fill valve spins and I can’t loosen it at all. It’s driving me insane
what I do as long as the base washer is not leaking I leave it in place and just take the top off just pull up on the collar to unlock it and the valve just pulls right up and out I just changed 3 in one week all were put in around the same time
Hi Roger, I have a question. Can a Fill Valve make a whistle noise and cause water to spray outside of the tank⁉️ I have a picture of something from inside the tank spraying water all over and onto the bathroom floor.
The Fill Valve in my toilet leaks water at that top. It’s a bit different. Is it supposed to do that? Toilet hasn’t been flushing trying to figure out what’s wrong with it.
my fill valve has suddenly started making odd sound of filling then stopping and filling & stopping + filling and stopping until tank is full. The float is getting the water shut off at the right height, but it doesn't make the continuous water filling the tank sound anymore and it has stopped flushing the bowl.
I wished I would have found your video sooner. It would have saved me a ton of hassle. I learned not to use a sledge hammer and a pickaxe. I will stick with a wrench. Thank you. 😔
I have dula flush toilet. I changed the fill valve because it made a high pitch squeal. After flushing the toilet there is a loud noise in the pipe. What could be the problem?
Is there any adjustment for the TOILET FILL VALVE that I am missing? The level of water in my toilet is way down near the bottom ... too low! I have had a leak from the gasket of the TOILET FILL PIPE and replaced it. I adjusted the height of the float, and the extra little valve that regulated the rate of water filling. But, the problem is my toilet barely fills up at all. I did not touch the Flush Valve, and from all indications the Fill Pipe is installed correctly. I have a really weird very wide Flush Valve from my weird ( people tell me ) American Standard low flow toilet. When my toilet flushes it sounds like all the water crashed down at once ... doesn't sound like a regular toilet, but it has been that way since I got it, and it has worked, albeit loudly for over a decade. I removed and re-adjusted the Fill Pipe ( screwed it to the maximum height ) which is what the instructions to the Fill Pipe replacement kit said to do. It also said to open a little red valve that lets water flow in faster so it fills the tank fasters. I am stumped.
2:27 - "You want to make sure that this assembly is ABOVE the OVERFLOW TUBE". Don't you mean that "this assembly:, i.e. the float value needs to be below the overflow tube? Or, by assembly do you mean the top part of the Fill Tube assembly. I have had a problem with my newly rebuilt fill tube where the level of water in the toilet is way too low. Posted about it here today also.
Oh my God there's too many steps! I'm going to have to watch the video from the beginning. What's a fill valve? Is that the thing in the center of the toilet?
i would like to be a member of this channel except I don't have the cash to invest. I'm living on disability, renting a house built in 1880 from a landlord that won't do ANY REPAIRS AT ALL FOR ME... I just don't have the money right now to join 😔

Please update!
you just saved me a ton of money with this. I have a really old house and the toilets just seem to run constantly. Putting in new valves tomorrow!
Glad to hear! Keep us posted with your project!
Thanks Roger, you saved me $125.00 plumbing service call and I learned something new to help with my houshold maintenance
Thank you! Never messed with a toilet before and just successfully replaced the fill valve. Feeling very accomplished at the moment.
I am about to go do my first job replacing mine today.
@@gabolujan3109 I need to do mine tomorrow. The shortness of the videos I've watched is very encouraging lol

I'm sorry for your loss

Are you rebuilding your toilet?
Roger,
The fill valve keeps running water slowly and does not stop.
Should I change the entire fill valve system ?

Is it important to have the refill infill go into the tank or tube?
if the tank is not making a complete seal and wobbly while sitting on the back of the bowl, can this be a huge problem???
what I do as long as the base washer is not leaking I leave it in place and just take the top off just pull up on the collar to unlock it and the valve just pulls right up and out I just changed 3 in one week all were put in around the same time
