  • Surprise, surprise - the gents have had this in the Vault for a while and have never reviewed it. Could it be an elaborate excuse to drink a bunch of Islay on a Monday? We can only speculate.
Big thanks to Michael Schneider for the bottle. Cheers ya M.B.!

Aye, I'll always tune in for whiskey's that actually exists. Like I'm sure all those regional small bourbon distillers make good stuff, but unless I can drink it I don't care much for a review of it.

The quarter cask is actually my favorite Laphroaig. It still carries enough peatiness to be a Laphroaig but it has an extra hidden layer of fruity sweetness hidden deep within that I just love, even more than the 10

The obvious right way to go is call it "Ye Olde Cashgrab" bourbon. Then include the cleverest but completely honest description of what you're doing, but make it clever enough so that the bottle is collectible, not the bourbon. Think 'Pet Rock". Expose every lie the industry tells, and you'll rock it.

Love this scotch! My neighbor introduced me to the QC. Went out and picked up a bottle. It has a sweet honey/vanilla taste upfront with an ashy fire log on the finish. Love how it transitions from sweet to smoky fire log! Great fall single malt when sitting around an evening campfire! Can't wait to compare this one to the Laphroaig Cask Strength.

The Laphroaig 10 used to be pretty good too some 5-10 years back. Now its a little on the sweet side with the peaty flavour feeling less like your mouth and sinuses being invaded by an angry smouldering block of wood and ash.
I know a lot of people that couldnt stomach the amount of peat and the smell that, that particular whisky had but I loved it because that was its unique character

This is how I've described it to people for years: It's like if someone took the hull of an old fishing boat, burned it, buried in peat for 6 months, and was now gently trying to see how big of a chunk of it they could fit in your mouth. Personally, it's an experience I love.

Massive fan of the Quarter cask. Its such a shame we only get the 40% version of Laphroaig 10 over here in the UK. Personally I find the sweetness of the 10 a little artificial somehow where the QC just gives a blast of sweet caramel just after you swallow. Love love love Laphroaig and very interested to try their new sherry cask.

Yeah, but here is the tldr of that review (having just watched it): "It's Laphroiag. It's real good. What more can you say?" It's funny watching those early vids, with them really establishing their characters. They spent more time on the exposition of character (somm jokes, mooch jokes) than on the actual review content.

I bought myself a 10 as my first islay/heavy smoke whiskey. The smell was pervasive, it lingered in the room for hours. I felt like I was at a bbq restaurant or smth. The taste was only smoke. Only smoke. My friend said he thought the 10 it was underaged, but I don't have much to compare to.
1,5 years later, I don't know if it has mellowed in the bottle or if I've gotten used to it. But it's much more pleasant. Very smokey nose still, but with a hint of sea-breeze, and some other very faint scents. Maybe the bottle has lost potency, but I sure like it better now.

Best Laphroaig price/quality wise is the cask strength one imo. Although I like the quarter cask more than the 10. At least it's 48% abv and the 10 only 40% abv. Damn Europe! The cask strength is 58,6% abv and just so good. I could drink it all day..
BTW Laphroaig had a new sort off manager for Belgium. And they focus sadly on supermarket ones. So the 10 and quarter cask from price is cheap like 40euros,.. But the cask strength I payed 150euro (still good price/quality) I ordered 1 online too in the Netherlands and its only 111 euro..

this one is insanely good, such a step up from the 10 and not that much more expensive, very intense. its like the most intoxicating centuries untouched honey made by ancient hornets high on ancient steroids. the heavy, oily sweetness clings to your tongue and throat and doesnt let go and suddenly you get punched by the smoke and the barbecue and the maritime seaweed flavor and the light undertones of disinfectant which you rub on your cut up hand after you smashed your fist through a window in blind rage thinking about 3 past failed relationships

If you think quarter Cask is soft, I'd love to hear opinions on Four Oak. It's hard to find, but man is it a gem
