I generally pledge only for ships with a very niche purpose that isn't pure combat (e.g. cargo hauler) or something with an intrigue value (e.g. Scorpius, being X-wing-inspired) and refrain from ships that might make the early progression too easy. I changed my mind upon the C1 being announced and decided to make it my daily driver, having liked previous Crusader ships, and if I didn't like it I could just melt it.
I'm really satisfied with the C1. I like the final design a lot, with small but significant changes from the original, and this is definitely going to be my daily driver. One of my favorite activities in Star Citizen is racing in a Fury LX, but finding a ship big enough to carry it but small enough to do so conveniently was a hassle. Enter the C1, which not only has a large enough bay to comfortably carry a Fury but also a tractor beam to conveniently put it in or out. I also have one friend who plays Star Citizen and the C1 is perfect for both playing solo and in a team of two.
The only things I wish the C1 had are an additional door and a manned turret.

    • @Farrister
      @Farrister  10 месяцев назад +7

It fits into that niche really well, I think

    • @gabzsy4924
      @gabzsy4924 10 месяцев назад +4

So basically you want the Cutlass black...fits the multiplayer role, it has a manned turret, fits a fury, has tractor beam, has two other side panel doors...The C1 is alright I guess, but the Cutty is still the better option in my opinion. Yeah, I agree the C1 has a better fit and finish and you can defenitely tell it's a more recent ship, but in term of what it offer it lags behind. The Crusader ships always have this sort of decompression chamber in between the cargo and the cockpit and is always in a tube shape with some components...I don't love this design. I feel like the components could all be left behind, in the cargo area and that decompression chamber could have a docking collar with a side ladder on one side and a suit and gun rack on the other. That would fix the entrance issue that afflicts all Crusader ships. As per the manned turret...I mean, I also prefer being pshysically inside of the turret, but I don't really think it would be possible in this design.

I also upgraded from the Titan to the C1. It's been fantastic so far, does everything from most VHRT targets to org box running support to getting around stanton quickly. 9/10, just wish it was either a bit faster and/or the wing cannons were already gimballed at their present size. I have also fit 120 scu of cargo in it, but those are dark and dangerous arts lol

I started with the Titan as well, but almost a year and a half ago. I ended up upgrading my starter package to a Cutlass Black. While I liked the way it flew, I really don't like the Drake designs. I rented the C1 during IAE and flew it around for two days. I loved everything about it, including the design. I instantly threw the extra 15 bucks in to upgrade from my Cutlass and don't regret it.

I didn't upgrade my Titan, I kept it. Since I have an Idris (crowdfunded by org) the Titan is the ideal shuttle/ fighter hybrid. But the Spirit was the aesthetic of ship I always wanted in that size class. The Freelancer looks like a 50s toaster sucked through a hose and the Cutlass a scrap metal space-K47, neither of which I enjoy the look or feel of.

Worth noting that the C1 can also easily haul 100+ scu of cargo if you use the extra space not included on the cargo grid. The central walk way will fit an additional 32scu box. You will have to manipulate cargo to get in and out, so it can be frustrating if you are solo, but I have found it manageable. As of a recent patch you can sell cargo not on the grid like other ships, so I am surprised no one mentions this.

The Spirit C1 is the 3rd member in that triumvirate of entry-level Medium Multicrew Multipurpose ships by MISC, Drake, and now Crusader. They each have their advantages and disadvantages; Drake focused more on firepower while MISC builds tough ships, while Crusader opts for nimble and quick.
The Spirit C1 is the choice for those players leaning more to courier work and other peaceful pursuits, especially within the atmosphere. When atmospheric flight comes into the game, the Spirit will gain an even better footing in performance to its competitors.
Lastly, your point of how this ship works well as a team member is a key point. That tractor beam, when on top, has a 360⁰ view and can assist big brother Hercules or other ships with moving cargo around, in addition to better preparation of gathering loot surrounding it than other ships.

@Farrister Thank you, kindly, sir. Some might like it to be a foursome or quartet and add the Zeus CL to the mix, but I disagree it belongs with the 3 I mention. Why? The Zeus is not an entry-level ship, both by price point and crew capacity compared to the Cutlass and C1 specifically, and the Freelancer by the general acceptance it should be a two person ship also. Though I digress, the Freelancer (especially after a rework) may try to straddle between the entry-level MMM with its base version and then the Zeus/Mercury "advanced" mediums with it's two variants competing with the Zeus CL and ES with the MAX and DUR respectively.

I hope this ship has lots of upgradability in the future, specifically in the wing sections, it seems like such a huge amount of space isn't being taken advantage of there, and I feel like it should either be rebalanced and given a larger shield or something, make the extra size and cost worth it over its competitors.
    Loved the video as always!

    • @ericwollaston5654

The wings 🪽 main purpose, like most Crusader ships, is to provide it with better lift and general performance in the atmosphere. Sure, atmospheric flight isn't in fully yet, but the Spirit will perform better than its rivals. Like on an airplane, the Spirit likely does store its fuel out there, which does give it a decent range, too. Of course, the counter to those advantages is a much larger silhouette.

I started my SC career with a Cutter and Upgraded it to a Vulture and then the Zeus II MR with an A1 loaner. My daily driver for a long time for general gameplay was the Cutlass Black that was usually the first ship I buy after a wipe. But then I tried the C1 of a Org member and immediately fell in love with it. The way it flies, the room and especially the optics are so awesome! This is why I decided to add a second pledge to my hangar and ought it. Now the C1 is my daily driver. Always loaded with a few Self-Storage boxes to carry loot and a Tumbril Cyclone for hostile bunker runs.
No interest in Cargo hauling with it as for that I have my beloved Caterpillar and C2 but the C1 is 100% the ship I want to start with after a Wipe. I just wish it would allow to lock the Airlock blast door in the back and if the gunrack allowed bigger Primary weapons like the FS-9 or F55. Also I wish it would have 1 or 2 jump seats for passengers. Beside that, the C1 is really the perfect allrounder and daily driver for travel, bunkers or other 1-2 player gameplay.

A big point that can't be understated is the ability to snap two 32 scu boxes to the grid. As more gameplay begins to involve loading and transporting cargo boxes manually, having access to this size is very helpful.
Further, I've packed over 100 scu of salvage cargo into the back of my C1, probably reaching closer to 120scu. Yes, it makes getting in and out tricky, but it can be done. I don't think you can get anywhere near that with the lancer or cutty.
Also, it's tractor is placed in a good location, and does allow for easy loading and unloading without leaving the ship.

It's one of the ships that truly works out really well for a solo player, and it peaks at 2 nicely. It doesn't require much to run, and you don't lose much to run alone. As functionality of multi-crew increases, that will certainly make the Freelancer and such have their own appeals but the C1 is currently, and should likely retain, great for it's size. It also has the great functionality that the Nomad also has in that the pilot never needs to expose themselves in the future if they don't want to. Hauls and drop offs means no one has to leave the cockpit, and the multiple doors offer great security in this regard cause no one can sprint up and shoot you before you can prepare. The C1 is a comfortable ship for the solo and duo teams, and I only see it getting more appealing when ships start requiring more hands to operate.

C1 has been a strange one for me. I love and have complaints about mine.
Pros for me: Handles nice, has decent pilot controlled firepower, hauls enough cargo to make it worth it, Looks good and is nice to live in.
Cons for me: Feels like it takes up nearly as much space on the ground as an MSR making it a bit clunky to fit places things like Freelancers can be parked easily, Has more engine to ship ratio going on out back than the MSR but is slower SCM?..., Vtol engines at wingtips just have to get near things to get torn off.
But I understand the SCM speed being more matched to the Cutty and Freelancer and the MSR is its own thing as the high speed smuggler.
So even with the cons I have been living in my C1. So nice to bedlog in and wake up looking up out the cockpit out in the middle of nowhere on some moon or Microtech, Even filled the fridge with LUX and beers. Got a few bologna sandwiches and some citrus beef burritos packed away as well. For the stone bug living in the other bunk, gotta have a friend along.

Love this ship. I upgraded from my 300i, and obviously its a massive upgrade from that.
claim time is extremely short. The ship is very fast, which makes it an absolute breeze to make quick cargo runs (picking up & dropping off prospector loads, and bringing along on salvage missions with friends in vultures). And its not terrible at combat either, so can be used in bounty missions (with a friend in a dedicated fighter) to kill the NPCs, and then grab all the cargo from destroyed ships.
Super versatile n useful ship to have in your fleet
edit: i'd also add that "the dance of doors" in this ship feels much better than in other ships (like the corsair for eg when going from cargo bay) bcs its a straight shot to the cockpit.. and cos the doors seem to open very quickly (automatically), sometimes even opening both at the same time.. tho im not sure how to actually trigger this.

Team is essential for the C1 to really bring out its full potential. During IAE, me +1 made big Bucks with Salvage pairing the Vulture and the C1. Thanks to the tractorbeam-turret, neither of us had to leave the ship too often. We could fit some salvaged cargo and almost a full scrapped C2 in there.
Ofc this could be done with others ships aswell, same goes for cargo-hauling with it, but all ships comparible lack in one or two things that the C1 can provide.

omg, I love this ship! the look, the sound of the engines, everything. it has everything i need to play solo and do so happily. after upgrading it and running multiple missions with it, this is going to always be in my hangar. even took down my first Hammerhead with it last night, so it's definitely staying unless CIG makes something that can compete without breaking the bank.

Now that the sizes of cargo containers has been determined, they really need to go back and look at the older cargo ships to make sure they work. For example, the Freelancer is supposed to carry 66 but I don't think there's any way in hell you could even fit two 32 containers because a decent chunk of its capacity is in that little airlock room.

There's a lot to like about the C1, especially as a ship you're going to be using heavily. The newness of the design really says it all - there's so much accommodation in the C1, it's sort of hard to get at - personal lockers for you and your copilot, for instance, on top of the internal inventory and cargo space. Suit lockers and weapon racks on top of that, and a good amount of cargo space that you can still likely use ALL of, even while carrying a thin vehicle, like a Nox or later on, a Tumbril Ranger. I'd be interested in seeing if it can fit an STV without compromising the cargo grids - if so, that's a pretty nice win, on its own.
What it means overall, though, is that the C1 is not only a multi-role ship, but one that will likely be able to perform multiple roles AT ONCE - doing box missions or bunkers, for instance, while also doing cargo runs, with plenty of extra supplies and fuel for long-duration runs, and crew quarters that actually feel like quarters.
About the only thing I can say I dislike about the C1 is its vertical profile and its footprint. In combat against maneuverable enemies, the wide, flat pancake design of the C1 is likely to put you at a disadvantage, especially considering your limited shields. On top of that, it's low-slung with very wide landing gear, and that long ramp to boot. It's still a smaller ship, but to land it comfortably anywhere but a pad, you have to be very picky, very reckless, or very lucky to find a spot where it'll lay nice and flat. That can count for a lot when you're involved in shady business, where you might want to park, say, out of sight of a bunker's guns or the prying eyes of others loitering around a drug lab.

The only issue I have with this ship is that landing in stations, they always throw you in smallest hangar available - and it FEELS like you have to be aligned down to the inch before entering the bay or your wing or tail is going to hit the edge when descending. They need to up the size of hangars that are hailed when landing.

As for the twitchy tractor beam, I find hitting Q to turn on relative mode makes it a lot easier to use like most turrets.

I would ding it points for the cargo doors not being as wide or tall as the cargo space. It creates a limitation that you cannot load things that would otherwise fit.

I pledged it at concept. Was upset at first when hearing it wouldn't have a gunner turret like it's competitor, the Cutty Black. However, this ship has been amazing, even without the turret. Picking up cargo, fast traveling to meet up with friends or even combat. The C1 has been very comfortable doing group HRT's. If one of those ships you destroyed had cargo, you can just hop in the tractor turret and place it in the cargo hold.
For me, it is the ultimate daily driver. If I want to multi-crew, I have much better ships for that anyway. Some complain about its size when landing in hangars. Hasn't been any kind of issue and shouldn't be if you're a pilot with decent experience. If not, it doesn't take long to get used to, the C1 is very responsive.
This ship just gives you the feels. Very easy to get immersed when flying in it.

The bigger window on the Spirit is LOVELY. That it looks so nice aesthetically is a really great bonus. Also my friend has a Constellation Aquila so I don't need something really big for my solo ops (I was previously thinking about the Taurus). Thank you for sharing. Having the components in the rear for changing or repairing them is an excellent design choice. Additionally, having the cargo off on the side so you can easily walk through the cargo bay is another good design choice. The tractor beam design was well thought out, and with a bit of practice, I could use it with a few issues.
Are you able to deploy the fuel port from the cockpit?
Additionally, we have spoken about components before, and even though it would slow down the ship considerably, I suggest a person think about swapping ours to an Industrial drive like the Huracan or the Bolon. The negative on this swap is you are about four times slower; however, the positive is that you can extend your range by almost four times. The bonus with an industrial drive is that they are allegedly more durable. This substitution may be warranted when you think about areas like the "Pyro Preview" we were looking at.

Upgraded my Avenger Titan to this, and my only gripe is the lack of access to the cockpit without having to walk the entire length of the ship. I have to say, the component and cargo isolation door doesn’t really make a ton of sense in that context either. I can’t think of any reason to have it closed, ever. Maybe once ship fires are introduced it will make more sense. I would also really appreciate a few jump seats somewhere.

The hangers that it gets are mathmaticaly viable, but after getting the Reclaimer's hanger for my C8R so many times, CIG should give the C1 a larger hanger as default. It took me a while. Starfield is not a spaceflight simulator; it plays like Freelancer. It's all mouse/keyboard, you don't take off or land, and there's no atmospheric/low altitude flying or air to ground assaults. All ship combat takes place in space (like Freelancer or Privateer). So unfortunately, although you can design an awesome ship you don't really fly it like you would in Star Citizen. But you do get to build the interiors, although the designer system needs work. So Star Citizen still scratches that space flight itch. But somehow I haven't been that itchy lately.

The C1 has a very big cargo space compared in it's price range. Only the more expensive Max has a much bigger cargo hold. Or the Raft.

I've got one as a Zeus CL loaner, and my only complaint with it is that I wish there was an elevator or something behind the cockpit.

So I own more than a few ships and I love the MSR. But I keep using this c1 from everything from bounty hunting to just cargo runs I can hard level bounty’s at the moment with some damage and make off with the cargo bit I find from some of the random encounters totaling in the millions. It will be my main ship and daily driver

Daily driver for a few people, I think :)

I have been using it for HRT and VHRT bounty missions and loading her up with the booty. In the hands of a competent pilot it handles higher level bounty missions just fine.

I use a C2 with max Mil A for ERTs, looted 220scu from a Cat a couple days ago and made 20mil AUEC from one bounty mission.

I was looking for something to replace a 2950 BIS Cutlass. Hello black and gold C1, Crusader design is pretty cool.

Not sure if I could recommend the ROC idea... Might be me, but having it loaded glitched all over the place, including glitching me into the wings and straight through the roof multiple times. Other than that, I love mine. Using it for smaller gold trades and HRTs/VHRTs (and their "financial extra benefits")

I'm not a fan of the "dashboard" taking up as much screen space as it does when you're sitting in the pilot's seat. But the C1 is a very useful ship 🤷‍♂

I didn't think I would upgrade my Avenger Titan, but I just made the jump to a C1 after watching your videos. Absolutely love it so far!
I actually appreciate the rear air lock, because with only one entrance it could keep any possible cargo out of sight when exiting the ship.
Also, one design point I really like is the ability to lock the door to the cockpit. This feature paired with the remote tractor beam shows that the C1 is designed to get in to and out of dangerous cargo spots while keeping the crew as safe as possible.

I've had my C1 for all of about two hours now, but it's been lovely so far. it's a decently capable little ship, and fun to fly around in. my only concern is that she seems to live up to the name "spirit" because every so often i hear a metal pipe clanging against something and i haven't got a foggy where the noise is coming from so i think she might be haunted.

I love my C1! It has become my daily driver. My only gripe is the hanger size that it is assigned to. Some of them are too small for this ship.

Wish they would move the rear components forward with the other components, put them on one side and add a ladder up front like the Zeus.

I've been really enjoying the C1. I've been flying the MSR a lot which I bought in game. I would like to buy the MSR but can't justify the cost. So initially I thought the C1 was my consolation prize. But I think longer term for me as a primarily solo player it is a better option than the MSR.
It's feels fast, especially in space it's acceleration is very quick. And overall I find it easy to fly. It is big though and can be a tight squeeze into hangars. CIG need to bump it up to the next size assignment class for hangars.
Can certainly carry a fair bit. Getting vehicles in and out is easy. Good for salvage mission. For trading it probably doesn't carry quite enough to make it viable, especially for low value commodities. It's perfect for trading gold, I've normally been able to get a full 64scu of gold and made about 110k profit. I haven't tried any illegal cargo yet, but suspect that anything small volume high value will work well.
C1 has definitely become my daily. Crusader design ticks a lot of boxes for me. The C1 is one of those ships that gives me a little thrill every time I enter the hangar.
