I am a HUGE Constellation advocate and enthusiast. Here are some fun facts:
Because of its shape, power, and significantly lower weight, the Constellation series are actually faster and more efficient in atmosphere than the Mercury Star-Runner.
The Constellation's landing gear, plus the fact that its cargo elevator is immediately between those gear, mean that it has a TINY footprint compared to its overall size. A good pilot can put a Constellation down safely in a space where only a Cutlass might otherwise fit, and a Freelancer won't.
Connies' combination of inertia, thrust, and hardware make them extremely forgiving of mistakes, while at the same time representing a very good 'mirror' of the behavior of larger, heavier ships like the Hercules series, the Starfarer and Caterpillar, and even the big boys like the Reclaimer and 890 Jump. If you're waiting for your "baby" to become flyable, or saving up money for something bigger, the Taurus is a great way to familiarize yourself with how larger ships fly while also earning steady, reliable currency in-verse.
The Connie also sits in a nice sweet spot for learning the value of the instrumentation HUD, particularly the ship's disposition in vertical degrees. Keeping your angle between 0 and +5 on landing prevents most scrapes. Just remember how much ship is behind you: Aim to sit the cockpit at the far end of a landing pad instead of near the middle, and you'll be on target. Both of these techniques are especially valuable if you move up to a Hercules, which behaves in a very similar fashion on landing.

I don't know where you got the fact about it being more efficient in atmo, but i can say that you have a longer autonomy with the Mercury at the moment. I compared both ship for the Daymar rallye and the Mercury has almost infinite fuel but I don't know if it is a bug or the fuel scoop that is depleting the atmosphere of all its hydrogen. ^^

You know, one thing about the Taurus is for her size she is extremely forgiving to land. Because she sits so High off the ground, and size of her landing pads I think. On the other hand, I was constantly loosing pieces of the cutlass on landing if in the dark or a dust storm. I went from Cutlass to Freelancer Max, to Taurus.

Got the Taurus in-game last week, but I did try all the haulers at IAE, and the Connie is much easier to land than a C2, which likes to nose down on its front landing gear. I had no issues landing next to buildings in Clio during the Nintails medical supply missions, while Herc pilots were complaining about the wind, and getting in and out of the Connie is far less convoluted than a C2.
Interesting info about the MSR, that’s my next on my list for a fast runabout.

    • @shawnc5188
      @shawnc5188 2 года назад +3

Bought an MSR and a Connie Andromeda in game. The MSR is a better runabout that’s easier to fly, while the Andromeda feels a little ‘pointier’ than the Taurus, but the Andro’s Merlin is basically useless for a single player. I’ve been flying both my Connies for XT, the Andro for the antifighter segment, and the Taurus specced with size5 Omnisky for Idris pounding.

The Constellation series is a great line of ships. Sure, it can't haul all the cargo a Hull B can or be as good in combat as a Hurricane but it's definitely good enough for both. Definitely one ship I'd seriously consider if I had to stick with just one. Could use an interior rework though, it feels a little dated with the today's standards.

Those 50$ could buy you the better part of a small fighter like the arrow for example.
The only trade-offs between the Taurus and the Andromeda: The Taurus misses the snub fighter in the back, has one less armed turret and notably less hull hp.
BUT: A Taurus and an Arrow (for example) is what I'd rather go for than just an Andromeda.

Good video, but you failed to mention a VERY important fact. That rear cargo space is significantly more armored than the other variants and it is shielded against scans. Which means being able to carry illicit cargo is MUCH more feasible. Especially with pirating coming with the Pyro update.
I started off with a Drake Cutlass. It was ok. I then upgraded to a Freelancer DUR. Also not bad, although I hated the cockpit & significant lack of visibility. I finally upgraded to the Constellation Taurus. I LOVE the cockpit on this ship & have easily taken out 2 cutlasses on an 890 mission. And I can fit bothy Ursa & ROC in the back cargo bay, something the Andromeda & other variants can't do. I don't have friends, so I have no idea for another turret or back fighter. And with the next big update, they're drastically overhauling & improving cargo, which will make the Taurus even more valuable. That 174scu will serve me quite well.

I have this ship, and I love it. I fly solo. All components up to Military -A, except the Quantum drive which I generally keep as the slow Bolan, but keep two faster drives ready to go. As currently moon landing pads provide no fuel, I run the slow drive and stay out making frequent moon stops for cargo. I love the speed I can enter an exit the ship via the elevator in crew quarters. Typically I always return to Home with a full load. I have an MSR also, which sits mostly for data hauling to start, but I break out if I have a need for speed as I keep an XL-1 in her. My daily workhorse is the Taurus. I also upgraded the top two hardpoints to size 5 ballistic cannons....so typically I always run....until hitting QT drive, but I pity anyone who gets out in front of my size 5 and 4 ballistic and energy combo. You will be hurt...and with size 3 shield FR-86 I am confident all the time....even if you catch me on the ground...this ship is the best buy cargo hauler....as I loved my Freelancer Max....in tribute I run my Taurus in Orange Heron skin. She looks like a freight hauler for sure....strangely when in my MSR (I'm always in character) I feel the need to run fast and get in and out in a hurry...the confidence there lay in the speed.....with the Taurus I take my time around the Stanton system. I play solo or with two friends at most right now, so this ship works great for us. I also wanted to make some money trading and mining, so it does the job there. I do agree with others that a slight interior rework would be great (functioning table, better kitchenette, working or at least lit up screens around the interior, beds function as med bays, etc..), but prefer it’s purposeful design to some of the more luxury brands. Regarding the Taurus' "un-scannable" storage location: Given that planetary and station security forces will most likely be familiar with a range of ship models, wouldn't they know that the Taurus has a special storage location that can't be scanned, and therefore require that a Taurus be boarded and an in-person inspection be done? That would pretty much make the special storage room not as useful for hiding illegal or special cargo, except to hide it from pirates. The same could be said of the Mercury Star Runner.
The special smuggling compartments that Han Solo added to the Millennium Falcon worked because they were not common to the YT-1300f model.

At one time, I had both the Andromeda and the Taurus in my pool of ships. I purchased the Taurus as I wanted a bit more cargo capacity than the Andromeda offered for running trade routes. I found the Taurus to feel quite "heavy" during flight and maneuvering. The thruster response was sluggish and inertia felt like it was maybe 15-20% greater than that of the Andromeda. That feeling may have been poor server performance (perish the thought, right?), but it was enough to coerce me into trading the Taurus up for a Redeemer. Not saying I won't buy another Taurus at some point....

Change the top S5 gimbals for fixed Omnisky XV and you will be doing 4760 DPS, which is insane, specially for a cargo ship. I know I'm commenting on a fairly old video but, although the Taurus is classed as Medium Freight it is also as far as Fleetyards and SC Wikia, the Constellation set are classed as a Large Ship type with the Taurus being slightly longer at 63m (the other 3 are 61m long), looking around on the net, I found out that the Taurus is cargo length wise capable of hauling 1 Spartan 8x8, but sadly the Spartans turret makes it too tall to get in with the turret hitting the hull, if the turret was removed from the Spartan it should be able to fit but might be a little tight, the Ursa is a little wider than the Spartan, but the Ursa if aligned correctly scrapes in fine.

The only draw back I could potentially see is slow combat maneuverability compared to the other variants. @@ciarenbunt306 I'm assuming they'll have a sale when they are finished with it. The ship is on the progress tracker this year but but isn't listed for any of quarterly updates so far. I'm starting to think I might be leaning Connie of Corsair but since the Connie is always on sale the and The Corsair isn't (and might get a price bump) I figure I'll just wait and see.
I'm kind of afraid the Corsair will be a lot more fragile in the end without the speed to make up for it. It needs to be a fair bit more maneuverable or get the same shield upgrade as it's armor is supposed to be pretty weak. I also suspect a likely fire power nerf... Though didn't CIG talk a while back about wanting to revisit the Connie to allow for size 5 fixed guns on the bottom wings (which also seems really strong for PvE at least).

I really love the cargo and bridge section of the Constellations but I can't stand the B section and the wasted space in the D section. Also I'm not a big fan of how the ship is basically a huge tube divided in different sections. It's just too linear. The B section is just bad and poorly utilized and I feel it would benefit the whole architecture of the ship if it was moved on the back of the ship and merged with the D section before the Merlin bay for increased Crew Quarters (AND BETTER BATHROOM PLEASE!!) and improved disposition so you won't have an airlock lift just in the middle of the walkaway of the crew installations. So you would end up with Bridge/Cargo Area with Entrance Lift/Crew Quarters with added kitchen, real bathroom and armor storage/Merlin Bay without the empty room in between them for extra space for the crew quarters.

And you're discussing a Taurus that has 174 SCU holds? For me it is a bit incomprehensible. It's not worth buying this for real money. It's only 3.3mil so it's best to buy it in-game.

CIG spent 6 years putting this on and off the roadmap and they couldn’t even bother to make the taurus gold standard, so they spent all this time for nothing lmfao.

It's a pretty nice ship, I like where it fits in, although like you I do wonder if it will be revisited, and if so, why it wasn't done on release.

What if the only real NASA projects are Taurus and Taurus oriented? What if it is only one month of contact and content and communication a year, just during Taurus. What if the only real constellation projects of space documents is Taurus? What if it is needed for proof of authenticity of leadership and intelligence and citizenship. Regarding how much damage has been happening with people who overlooked absolute answers for privacy and public. What if there is no other pathways of instructions and education? Regarding the proof needing to be made independently and exampled for debt collections evaluations regarding proof that the wrong answers are costly and concerning. The truth of globalization and time keeping and landlords... The truth of dungeons and dragons. Maybe the year can be esque and not specifically matter, like the year of the dragon but the month and identification of Taurus does matter... What if the hidden truths of DND are like the gatekeeping of the development projects of true counseling and therapy. Beginning with acceptance and admitting that the other 11 projects will be independent... Coming out even after all 12 are finished, done by Taurus laws of ethics and morality... Harder than believable when the others deny freedoms of the Taurus's... It's like a cultural virus socially being demonstrated using dramatic arts claiming that society fails, like there is no way to fix it. Super despairing... But, revealing the truth of Taurus is like coming to a conclusion that they will all try to say that they are now Taurus like the influx can be contested...

I hope the Constellation series gets a complete rework. They really need a second deck... especially the Phoenix and the Aquila. This means they would inevitably be made larger. If you look at a top down side by side comparison with the 600i, you'll have a good idea of how much bigger they should be: external-preview.redd.it/vB12qtBnefNcsaou3ZwDHLZ-yVJyuVdDQlYJGcnk_YM.png?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=305a0d92f67179cd126f27dce69e07a543f7fc66

On the one hand, yes, on the other hand - part of the simplicity of the Constellation series is that it's just one deck
