@@ZeekEOSZ I've never even used a real camera / DSLR. From what I understand only from watching the videos today. Shooting raw 2.5K or 5K 'cropped' means you're not using the full sensor, and thus need a lense that can compensate for that narrower 'whatever camera lingo'. So what about shooting raw 5K and close up shots? re lenses that aggressive going to be expensive? My primary uses for this camera are going to be a mix of shots between 1-15ft away and not much else. I'd like to get my start on the cheaper side to see if it's worth continuing. Yes I put the second camera closer a little due to the other wall not being fixed yet haha. I need to plaster it etc. But thanks for the suggestion! :)

Also not a Canon shooter anymore most of the time. But still interesting all this! One question is all manual focus or also proper video AF possible?
Hey Zeek! Amazing content as always. I'm struggling to figure out the crop factor of the canon eos M. If i'm shooting 2.5k raw 2,35:1 aspect ratio, i have a crop factor of 3,29X. So basically, a 10 mm lens is in reality a 32mm and a 24 mm with the speedboster, right? How am i gonna get wide angle shots as if i had a 10 mm lens? Thanks as always for your advices!
In 1:1 readout modes, the crop is 5208/width x 1.6. So 2.5K has 2500 pixels and is therefore about 3.3x-3.5x crop depending on the aspect ratio. Reducing the resolution means more crop.
I think you should give Topaz Video Enhance AI a shot. I experimented with some 2520 x 1072 footage that I exported to Apple Prores. Then, using that software, upscale the video to 4K. Sometime even at ISO800 indoor lights, the noise reduction is just insanely good.

The deinterlacing algorithm is better than Resolve's to my eyes too.
Man! I love your videos and cinematography. Very filmic and pleasing to the eyes. May I ask how big are the file sizes for something like 2.5k Raw and does the camera overheat? Is there a record limit? Thank you!
I've only had the camera heat, not overheat with cheaper cards. SanDisk Extreme Pro have been perfect 👌 File size are about 1GB per minute or so. No record limit.
Zeek. Please make a video, how you shoot in shadows and in light, what settings to use before recording, so that there is a maximum dynamic range. And most importantly, how do you deal with the color noise of the matrix. I don't get such clean videos. If you use a cleaning program, show it too. I think a lot of people will be interested in this release. And if there are Russian subtitles, it will be generally great.
I use high resolution modes. I export as DNG from MLV App and grade in Davinci. I find it's cleaner than MLV App straight off the bat. No noise redut is used.
Hey, just wanted to clarify, were you shooting in 15 second intervals or is there a way to increase the recording limit? What is the maximum continuous recording time when shooting raw?
It's all continuous RAW with what I shot here in 2K RAW. Most of these clips were recorded 2 minutes to 4 minutes long. Obviously I need to shorten them in FCPX for the sake of B-Roll.
@@ZeekEOSZ So your max recording time is limited by the size of your SD card? Sorry if you've answered this before, I'm new to Magic Lantern and just came across your channel. I've been considering picking up an EOS M and rigging it up, but I don't want to be stuck with 2-4 minute clips...
Yes. I've never experienced dropped frames in this mode. There is a greater reduction, if any, in aliasing and moire than 1080 mode for sure. The resolution can go up to 2.5K. But I like 16:9 1968x1080, 2K 1.85:1, and 2.3K 2:1

Can you do some videos on Dual ISO on EOS M? there's very few people who have info on it, but i've been experimenting with it a lot lately. One quick tip though is to only really play with the dual iso feature for LOWERING your base iso, by using the -4 EV setting, instead of increasing your ISO, since it'll cause weird purple stripes in your highlights. But it's incredibly good looking, it increases dynamic range and lowers noise by a fair amount, you just really have to be careful and very liberal with how much you use it.
I used dual ISO on the past. The problem with it is that It's like in beta mode. It needs development as it is not full refined/finished. You will get green colour cast flickering due to the timing of the dual ISO feature. It needs to be coded properly, but it's not an easy task so it has been left bare and isn't fully complete.
@@ZeekEOSZ it really depends on how you use it, you have to be very particular and careful with it, but you can get some incredibly impressive flawless results with it if used carefully

It's amazing what this cam can do, I fully agree with that, but the crazy formats with all the drawbacks as high crops are for me unusable to be frankly, but nice to experiment and fun to get the most out of it. Thanks for your good explanations in the menu's and quirks, it helps to get it done, thanks.

otally agree with you Zeek. For me it is a hobby, curiosity, passion and fun to get the best out of this sensor from this small camera with the fantastic ML software the, same as you have. Even then, the sensors were more than good in 2012. I have the native bmpcc, bmpcc 4K and the Canon C70 (now with the RAW firmware uodate). With all the humility for these top cameras, it surprises me enormously that I often get the same beautiful Canon images and colors within certain limits, however However, I use CinemaDNG and do resizing in Davinci Resolve with super scale / retime AI, f.i. 4K. One thing struck me recently. I looked into buying SL1/100D. On paper it looks very similar if not same as Eos M. I wonder if it have same RAW capabilities as Eos M? I already own M but DSLRs at that time was way ahead in AF plus it takes EF lenses natively and it takes same batteries as M. So if it can do same job as M with video it would be no brainer in my opinion. Cheers and great video as always. 🥂
Hi Zeek - I was thinking of getting an M6 mk ii - I know it does not shoot raw but what do you think of its 4K quality vs. EOS-M - if you know, of course. Thank you.
I don't recommend it for the price! I shot This video with the Sony ZVE10. A6400 is also better because of Log. M6 ii is contrasty without log and lacks dynamic range.
I'v seen a lot of your videos showing your lens with the follow focus' gear on, but I don't think I'v ever seen one of your videos with an actuall follow focus on. Which one do you use? I did some shooting yesterday with the small rig mini ff on an M50 cage with the M, and boy did it help to pull the right focus, but also helps a lot to reduce the shake you can get when pulling focus by hand
I use them mainly for grip. I had a follow focus gear once, but I don't like the bulkiness of it and prefer the feeling of just focusing by hand. Feels natural to me.
Hi zeek im a huge watcher of your chanel and the reason i purchased one of these cameras, Have you ever ran into an issue where the iso is too dark at night even if the Iso is bumped up to 3200? I am having issues tonight and was not sure if this was a "thing"
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks, thought you made it without adapters Here's video from zeek: ruclips.net/video/1betuj0eo58/видео.html for those, who'rr interested about ef-s to ef
I used it in the past. But it's like in beta. Needs more coding and development with one particular area, that is the flickering of a green cast in your exposure.
Speaking of boosters, which do you primarily use? I tried the viltrox with an m6 ii and an EF 85mm 1.4L, my best lens, but it's the only lens that didn't work (maybe because they're both newer). Tried updating viltrox firmware, no luck. So I'm eyeing the metabones. Is it worth the premium price?
The Metabones is the best and is the one I used. AF will work fantastic with the Metabones, better corner detail with wide lenses and colour reproduction.
I used to own the GH5. 4K will obviously have the high resolution, but the color depth of the Eos m are very nice and filmic. GH5 is great, they're different cameras in my opinion. I shoot RUclips with my two Sony ZV-E10'S, but for hobby filmmaking, there's a joy of just pulling out the Eos m and shooting raw video.
Hey brother! does your mlv app crash on you? because mine always does. I have to convert my footages in batches. Do you have any solutions for this problem? Im using PC to convert my footages. Do you have any tips of smoothing out my workflow?
You get magic zoom, zebras, false colour etc. Other than that, not really. I actually like the kit lenses for RAW Video and photo. 7Artisans or TTArtisans are also nice native mount lenses.
Hello, there is purple electricity in some frames of my raw videos. For example, if I shot 1000 frames of raw video, half of the 10 frames are purple. What is the cause of this situation? What is the solution?
I have the Canon M3, is there something similar I can do to make it look more cinematic? I'm a film student and have my final project coming up soon :)
I would focus on lighting and good lenses. The M3 is limited by codec, but with the right lighting and lenses you can make a difference. The EOS M can shoot RAW so that's why I think it's a step ahead.

I'll see what I can do, and if I have the original .MLV Files.
@@ZeekEOSZ ok will appreciate , I have the same lens (55-250) , I want to see the entire footage put together
It does have very similar capabilities with ML RAW.
Hey Zeek... are you using the Feb 2021 build or June 26 Build of ML these days?
June. I'll share it soon. 😎👍
@@ZeekEOSZ cool,waiting for it!
So, after seeing all these guys with their big expensive cameras, I hope you managed to get a good sound. That's the main thing.
Love making my eosM, cosplaying as a fancy camera :)
Hell yeah !
Hi zeek im a huge watcher of your chanel and the reason i purchased one of these cameras, Have you ever ran into an issue where the iso is too dark at night even if the Iso is bumped up to 3200? I am having issues tonight and was not sure if this was a "thing"
I haven't. I shoot ISO 800/1600 in pitch darkness, it's fine with DaVinci Resolve Denoiser. What lens are you using? Maybe detach and re-attach?
@@ZeekEOSZ i was using the canon 10-18mm i will switch it put see what happens, thank you for replying to me I appreciate it!!
What’s the brand of the cage for the the camera thank you
Hi, I think MLV manages highlights better. 06:33 more information. what do you think? it seems slight better DR
Both are good, I do prefer grading DNG with Davinci tbh. I could pull the highlights down more with DaVinci too and recover them.
@@ZeekEOSZ max wright speed is around 55MB/s? so, an sd with 60 MB/s wright speed can be enough.
hacking sd card improves speed?
@@St0nice tested it yesterday. I go max 60.3 MB/s,
You can use overclock, which helps. I used 192 MHz overclocking.
How did you mode ef-s to em? I tried to buy a fisheye samyang 8mm ef-s, but it didn't fit viltrox adapter, so I returned it. Thanks!
On eBay you type EF-s to EF Mount Adapter and it should come up.
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks, thought you made it without adapters
Here's video from zeek: ruclips.net/video/1betuj0eo58/видео.html for those, who'rr interested about ef-s to ef
Did you use meta bones? My speed booster doesn’t like the 55-250mm
Yep and Viltrox. Both work fine!
@@ZeekEOSZ hmm I wonder why I get error? Maybe just for photos
@@LouisLuzuka I haven't updated the Viltrox Speedbooster, ever.
@@ZeekEOSZ Hmm I wonder why it doesn't work on mine because that would be so nice to have a F4 IS but tiny and lightweight 😭❤️
@@ZeekEOSZ I will try it again tomorrow 😅😍
My fps override looks different. Just numbers. Low light and high jello settings yours has? Have you tried them? Get rid of rolling shutter?
ML build is here:
bitbucket.org/Dannephoto/magic-lantern_jip_hop_git/downloads/
Hopefully you didn't get the build from the ML Website
@@ZeekEOSZ I think I did get it from ML website. Thanks Zeek :-)
Cool!
@@ZeekEOSZ what is bad about getting the build from the ML website? 💀
@@hotdogdog4740 it's out of date. Limited modes, less reliable etc...
Do you use the dual iso feature? Not many videos about it. Would love one with your expertise.
I used it in the past. But it's like in beta. Needs more coding and development with one particular area, that is the flickering of a green cast in your exposure.
Notifications gang checking in
Speaking of boosters, which do you primarily use? I tried the viltrox with an m6 ii and an EF 85mm 1.4L, my best lens, but it's the only lens that didn't work (maybe because they're both newer). Tried updating viltrox firmware, no luck. So I'm eyeing the metabones. Is it worth the premium price?
The Metabones is the best and is the one I used. AF will work fantastic with the Metabones, better corner detail with wide lenses and colour reproduction.
@@ZeekEOSZ Appreciate it. There goes my kid's uni, lol.
Hi zeek, Any sugestión to improve AF?? Are you using manual focus or both? My AF doesnt work very Well...
I only use MF. AF is Contrast Based, so no fix for that.
I understand that this cam shoots raw, but have you compared it to the GH5 ? I'd be curious to see that!
I used to own the GH5. 4K will obviously have the high resolution, but the color depth of the Eos m are very nice and filmic. GH5 is great, they're different cameras in my opinion. I shoot RUclips with my two Sony ZV-E10'S, but for hobby filmmaking, there's a joy of just pulling out the Eos m and shooting raw video.
please shoot a music video by this eos m cam , its a request
Would love to! 😎🤙🔥
Impressive
HI Zeek , just wanted to ask whether Magic Lantern is working in EOS M50 and what about audio recording using magic lantern
Unfortunately not. Audio is fine. I just prefer external audio
How do you attach the power bank?
And remember: BOB IS UR UNCLE :D
“You shoot 2k resolution to 2.5k mode”??? Which is it? 2k or 2.5k? I don’t understand how you have both at once…
Hey Zeek when you upscale to 5k do you loose quality or sharpness?
No
My images have horizontal dots and have pink flares
Hey brother! does your mlv app crash on you? because mine always does. I have to convert my footages in batches. Do you have any solutions for this problem? Im using PC to convert my footages. Do you have any tips of smoothing out my workflow?
When the black window appears after loading MLV App, don't remove it.
Does Magic Lantern also affect the photo quality in the Canone EOS M? If so, what are the photographic possibilities of Magic Lantern ??
No it doesn't
Hi, just wanna to ask, is the autofocus working on the latest magic lantern build?
ML doesn't change AF. It will always be contrast based AF, so not reliable.
Is there any advantages to using magic lantern if I'm just taking pictures? And should I just stick with using a kit lens?
You get magic zoom, zebras, false colour etc. Other than that, not really. I actually like the kit lenses for RAW Video and photo. 7Artisans or TTArtisans are also nice native mount lenses.
Hi, friend! What was idea to scale into 5K? There is no monitors or TVs with such resolution.
Increase of detail. Raw contains a lot of data, so why not? It's mainly just a test, but there is a noticeable increase of detail.
@@ZeekEOSZThanks for you answer. I just trying to understand why did you choose "5K"? There is no such standard! Why not to 6K, 7K, 9K or 20K?
@@kolodiazniy You will increase the file size by doing that. Even upscale to 4K is fine, 5K was just a test.
cool intro)
Appreciate it 😎🙌💯
Hi! Does AF works using the viltrox speedbooster and af lenses on the Magic Lantern with this camera?
Depends on the lens. It does, but it's not good continuous AF, more for single shot AF.
Hi Zeek, don't you use a monitor?
I do, just not for this shoot.
nice.
Hello, there is purple electricity in some frames of my raw videos. For example, if I shot 1000 frames of raw video, half of the 10 frames are purple. What is the cause of this situation? What is the solution?
High FPS can be the cause or the wrong settings, e.g. FPS Override.
What sd card write speed is needed for this raw video?
90 MB/s Write is good enough. SanDisk Extreme Pro is 🎥🔥
Хороший канал и ведущий. Я глядел много видео и... купил себе вчера eos m. 👍👍😂
😎🙌🍻💯
Can I use this camera with my Ninja 5
Ninja V isn't compatible and won't work unfortunately
Hey! What cage did you use for this camera?
Camvate EOS M Cage
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks u!
mlv app wow
can i record and just throw it on adobe premiere pro?
You can export from MLV App as DNG and then work in premiere. Export is very quick.
How does a F4 go down to 2.8 with a speedbooster?
Extra stop of light.
@@ZeekEOSZ Yes, I know that, is f2.8 is what ml shows?
Which sd card is best for 2k frtp resolution
SanDisk Extreme Pro
Thanku sir
30 fps. Shutter speed can only be used 58 / 1 sec?
You can use image-finetuning in ML Tab 3 to fine tune the shutter speed
Did you set your davinci clip rec709a? Thats maybe why its washed out.
sRGB
@@ZeekEOSZ i see! Not sure what was the problem but with regards to color spaces they are "supposed" to be similar no question. Not sure how wrong or right i am as I have no experience with Eos m (tho i do want one tho cause of you!!!).
@@KanaievenTokyoI have some downloadable clips in my last videos. Grade for yourself in MLV App and DaVinci and you will find the answer. I do prefer Davinci DNG workflow tbh.
Are you alive brother?
Hello from Russia. Do U know what does "Z" mean? ))) Thanks for your support ))
What is the fun behind killing so many ukrain civilians, families & children without any reason at all? destroying all their houses and make them leaving their country?
Only very sick minds are able to do such evil things…
First letter of my shortened name: Zeek 😎🤙
Germany banned the letter Z. Three years jail if you use it (on its own). From now on your name will be eek. :)
To bad I kind find this camera guessing canon got.pissrd off
Dude, very like your videos, god bless you for them really. But, there's one (important) off-topic I should say to you.
It's about your logo. You see, I'm from Russia. My country has invaded Ukraine and I can't stand anything that reminds me of that barbarity. I stand with the civilized world and against my government in that matter.
And that "Z" really triggered me.
If you could, maybe, do something about it, change it to your full name or to some symbol or logo, that would be tremendous.
this camera is not 200usd It's almost 800!
