      Octavius's device had to be more energy dense, maybe even by orders of magnitude. It didn't just fuse a bit of hydrogen together, the machine was intended to cage an entire micro-star that was self-sustaining once activated. I would bet money that Tony would take one look at Otto's machine and call him a crazy son of a bitch for essentially trying to put a star in a box.

Brilliant use of the environment, with the fight starting on the bridge, moving onto the road sign and ending underneath the bridge. Having the hostage situation helps raise the stakes and also gives the fight an extra element than just 2 characters smashing each other. I guess. The issue with Doc Ock is that he really shouldn't be able to take a punch. Spiderman is super strong and fast compared to normal humans. Doc Ock has the arms that are strong and fast so they can keep up, but the rest of his body is normal middle-aged academic. If Spiderman punches him in the face or hits him with anything that isn't intercepted by the tentacles, he should get real hurt, real quick. There is a segment in Spiderman 2 where Doc takes one on the jaw from Tobey while they're fighting up the side of a building or something. Ock should have been out like a light or have the tentacles taking over or something. But it was like nothing happened. Knocked me right out of the movie.
      Ditto a character like Kingpin who is at the top of baseline human strength, but not super strong. Kingpin needs to beat Peter with strategy or henchmen or something, because he can't go toe-to-toe in a one-on-one. There's at least one scene in the comics where Peter kicks the ever-loving crap out the Kingpin because the Kingpin crossed the line with Peter's family.

      One big problem is that the only way He would be able to pick anything heavy up in the first places is if the arms themselves generated an upward force equal to or greater than the force of gravity on his body & suit. This is the only possible way it would work, because otherwise anything too heavy will still crush his back. With precision like that, he should be able to fly, but he doesn't. The only other way he would be able to pick heavy things up is if arms were angled like a human arm where the elbow is anchored to thr table during an arm wrestle.

    • @princeytron
      @princeytron 18 дней назад +2

      @@JosiahFickinger I mean the arms are attached to a metal brace on his back, so the force generated by the arms would go into the brace, it must be immensely strong to withstand such weight forces and not just collapse and kill him.
      Other depictions like in Into the Spiderverse are even worse! Girl Ock’s arm suit doesn’t even have a brace, just a simple suit attached to her that would 100% not dissipate any of the force and would certainly kill her if she lifted anything heavy.

    • @JosiahFickinger
      @JosiahFickinger 18 дней назад +1

      @@princeytron I guess that's true, but the force would still press him into the floor, regardless if there was a back brace. At that point, it won't be the back that collapsed, but everything below. Gravity still works. He would have to have a full-body reinforcement down to his feet in order for it to still work.

    • @princeytron
      @princeytron 18 дней назад +2

      @@JosiahFickinger Yeah I agree, I just mean at the very least they have a comic-y “explanation” for why it works. But the physics definitely don’t work. If he lifts anything, the weight goes into his brace, but the brace is still attached to his back, that just means the brace now weighs just as much as whatever he’s lifted, right? And all that pressure is put on his body.
      I guess *maybe* if his other arms have lifted him off the ground and are on the floor, the weight could be taken by the lower arms and not directly on his body?
      Either way, at the very least it’s a hugely dangerous dice roll every time he tries to do anything that could easily just snap him in half. Or rip the nodes out of his spine in a very violent manner.
      But yeah, you’re right, he’d need everything below the brace to be literally indescribable to be able to use the arms effectively.
      Especially if he’s actually standing with his feet on the ground. At the very least he usually lifts himself up by his arms when lifting to take some of the weight off, but really he’s gambling heavily with every move he makes.
      It is fun reading into the physics behind marvel/DC powers and abilities. Especially the tech-based ones. Cuz with magic and powers and whatnot you can always say “well his ability just negates that consequence” which is boring but fair enough. But the tech based ones are less able to hand-wave away. You really just have to rely on your suspension of disbelief.
      And honestly i can do that, even if realistically the arms wouldn’t work as they are shown, I can still enjoy the character and his powers y’kno?
      Like for example there are many situations where doc ock jumps rediculous distances and catches himself and just ignores the laws of conservation of momentum!
      Like remember the train scene from SM2? Where he leaps from the super fast train onto a building and just… lands on a building, utterly fine. Even if the train was stationary, the leap itself was huge and fast, stopping that quick would do untold damage to his squishy meat suit even if the arms and brace would withstand the pressures. And with the train moving at immense speeds? Not only the momentum of the leap itself but the fact that he’s going from moving at god knows how fast to immediately stopping. Those forces together would have sheered him in half no question. But he just shrugs it off.
      It’s almost like these tech based heros get a certain kind of plot-based invulnerability. Like Iron Man. He can be hit with tremendous forces and be completely fine. And it’s just explained by “oh his suit is super high tech and can protect him” but physical laws of momentum still exist! If he’s going at ludicrous speeds and suddenly stops by being hit, sure the suit itself could withstand it, but his squishy meat self would be thrown against the inside of the suit and turned into paste! It requires legit sci-fi inertia dampeners or something.
      But again, suspension of disbelief. I can ignore the fact that realistically it wouldn’t work if it makes a good story/character.
      The only times I get genuinely annoyed is when the writers make the rules and character but then break their own rules and set character motivations, then there’s no excuse really.

I have had to go through this myself for various trainings as various event organizers since when something major happens those in charge need to be in charge. It is also why at accidents most eye witness accounts are inaccurate since the adrenaline messes with the memory in the heat of the moment.

Peter does hold back when fighting people, but I'd like to point out throughout the whole fight Peter only got a chance to punch Doc once 1:56 and he was too slow. The rest of the time he is blocking and dodging for his life. Otto is from barely out of the 90s New York, wireless was a pretty new thing even if the super hero world has AI and super strength serums, so him not considering bluetooth exists is both smart and really funny.
