Enzo is red flashy. Hyped up. There are other very wild Ferrari's and they make more of them There are only 50 mc12s. And no other masserarti is a tiny bit like it. I find it much much cooler 😎👍
I've always preferred the MC12 to the Enzo, the MC12 was just so much prettier. Hopefully, they will go racing with the MC20 too. One of the most beautiful racing cars ever made, in my opinion.
The MC12 was designed by Frank Stephenson who is a legend in the car design industry. He also designed the first generation BMW X-5, McLaren P1,Ferrari 430 and 355 , modern Mini Cooper etc.
Yet another awesome car from the 2000s that got forgotten or never got much recognition. These were always far more appealing to me than Enzo at the time, and I think I still stand by that thought. Its refreshing to see some of the super/hyper cars of my childhood and teenage years begin to get notice. I think the super/hyper cars of the 2000s were and still are far more appealing than all the new super/Hyper cars that have just flooded onto the market place the last 12 years. They weren't all that common like they are now, I see more ferraris, Astons, Bentleys, you name it far more often than I did growing up. It was a high light of the summer to even see 1 of them, let alone anything over 3. Yet now.. I dont even have to live in a super wealthy area to catch a sight of a Bentley or a Ferrari. All I need is to live within a cities metro and be out on a saturday or sunday, and I will inevitably see that many new ones driving around.
Awesome video, love this car. The production figures are slightly off though, and one model variant is missing: MC12 (road) - 50 examples MC12 GT1 (race) - 11 examples, not 12 MC12 Versione Corse (track special) - 13 examples Total: 74
i saw one of these amazing machines at an auto show back in 2005, an oh boy was i excited back then, i knew how rare they are so i never tought i would get to see one live, to this day it is the most beautiful car i have ever seen
Frank is an amazing designer, every car he touches feel special, even the mass production ones, like the MINI. They all have a sense of refinement to themselves.
Hi Magnus The blue and red nuts on the wheels are actually RHD and LHD nuts and are colour coded to not mess up the threads. The Porsche Carrera GT has the same feature. It has nothing to do with tread on the tires.
wow what a coincidence ! This morning I watched the MC20 review then went back and watched again Jason camissa review of the MC12 released a year ago, The new Mc20 is no way near this beast from all perspective and it's a shame sharing Mc prefixe, This one was built based on a supercar, This car is just madness in all ways and it definitely worthes more than any other supercar for its rarity (50 road cars and 12 race cars were built in total of 62).
@@Xayuap totally agree 😂😂 that's what algorithms are doing out there hahaha but a kinda a coincidence, the day I looked for it the day they released this video 😂
The center lugs were different colors due to one side being reverse threaded, nothing to due with identifying tire tread direction, just for making sure the correct lug nut goes on the correct side of the car.
Seeing one of these racing along with an enzo during Targa Newfoundland years back is definitely a core memory. Such impactful cars! The enzo actually ended up crashing into the ocean. I believe there’s footage on RUclips
Exciting car, but the shaky cam combined with 0.5 second editing cuts during the track section was really disappointing. You guys normally do a great job but this one was a real let down.
I was fortunate enough to be able to see one of these in the wild when they were new. I can remember it like it was yesterday. My wife and I were sitting at a redlight under the 101 freeway in Chandler AZ. It came off the freeway and accelerated briskly under the overpass. It sounded like a fighter jet going by. Truly an amazing machine, not to mention BEAUTIFUL. Better than the Enzo could ever hope to be.
MC12 is better than enzo, even if design was not better for some, the car actually defeated the enzo on top gear lab and was the fastest car on that lab at the time, it defeated the enzo on nubergring and it actually did race (rather than being race inspired yet never race) and it won 6 FIA GT Championship with 6 drivers titles and 2 constructers titles, it's on the level of Mercedes CLK GTR, McLaren F1 GTR and Porsche 911 GT1 level of legendary
A had a client with one and it was the most incredible thing I had seen since the Countach and will always be one of my favourites. It made incredible noise and was thrilling to be in.
Since Maserati was able to make it faster than the Enzo I can't imagine how much more power it could have made. The reason the center locks are different colors is because one is right hand thread and the other is left hand thread. Lots or manufacturers do that.
@@scientificenigma That's the exact car I was thinking of. I know there are other cars that have center locks but aren't different colors and it is almost always race cars so the pit crew doesn't get the locks mixed up and waste a bunch of time trying to put a LHT lock on a RHT hub.
Maserati were under strict orders by Ferrari to make the MC12 slower so as not to overshadow the Enzo on which it was based. In fact, knowing Ferrari, I can just see them suing Maserati and issuing them a cease-and-desist if the MC12 had been as fast as the Enzo…
The 2-tone white-blue ones were all of the long overhang version. The shorter (and better looking) version was a lot closer in shape to he race car. I think those were all painted black or dark blue.
i clearly remember as a child that i received a small trade card with mc 12 photos & some stats of the car. the photos of the car just looked gorgeous thanks to designer frank Stephenson.
Most auto manufacturers have 1 or 2 heart stopping models throughout their history. Maserati has 1 or 2 ok models and nearly all (until recently, let's be honest) poster-worthy dream cars. Yes, MC-12, and the birdcage(s), the AGC6*#$@+!, Merak (flying buttresses ftw), Mistral, khamsin, 3500 & 5000 gt, granturismo, quattro Porte, Bora, mexico, Indy, the tripod, early Ghibli's (swoon) and even now the mc-20. Regardless of performance, reliability, etc I would gladly have any of these. Gimme the MC-12 for sunday's, merak for Mondays, Quattro Porte for long trips, granturismo for the wife, the birdcage 75th to suffocate in and the Alfieri to push around. Such a long, strange winning streak. Charmed design team at the very least. Sorry/ not sorry for the rant 👌
I remember drooling over one in the showroom/foyer of the Maserati factory in Modena back in 2008 (I only remember the year, as I had bought a Ducati 1098S the year before, so was over in Italy doing the Ducati factory tour........... and Lamborghini and Pagani too, though don't ask about Ferrari!). Jaw-droppingly stunning, utterly divine. An Enzo may as well be a Fiat Punto compared to this - and the fact it was faster than the Enzo, despite Ferrari's efforts, is only the icing on the cake. Superb!
I still want a Maserati with a Maserati engine. I know FIAT wanted to move the marque away from the de Tomaso years, but decades of Ferrari engines have diluted the Maserati brand more than the Biturbo ever did.
Before the MC20 came out, Maserati said it would’ve been the car that returned them to motorsports. That would’ve likely meant they planned on racing in GT3. But they have since gone silent and now Maserati have enter Formula E so I’m afraid it’s unlikely that they still plan on racing the MC20.
Even though i prefer the enzo's look i appreciate what it took for this car to not only become a much better car than an enzo but a better race car aswell, they managed to out race car ferrari!
Certainly no Jason Cammissa. The bed time story narration from the homeless guy sent me to sleep, however the video production is incredible (as always)
Lmao, did Magnus throw in the towel on "The Next Big Thing" when he realized the cars he wanted to review were on the up? Screw it, might as well just review the Already Big Thing! Nice review, but I almost feel like this is stepping on Jason's "Revelations" series, which is already exploring the iconic poster cars.
It's a little like the Alfa 8C Competizione. Beautiful to look at, great effort in some dire times of the company, but hindered by some weak tech like interior and gearbox they had to use.
Who cares about interior tech. It all about the engine, steering, and analog gearbox that needs mastering like a wild stallion. Lots of nice interior tech in Lexus, Kia, Greeley etc.
