hell yeah, i went to this, it was my third Cars show, our first was in 1978 in Oakland, opening for Styx, then in NYC 1981 at MSG, we drove from San Jose to this gig...
The Cars, especially Benjamin Orr of blessed memory, inspired me pick up the bass guitar. Today, though I am a Messianic rabbi, I play in two bands in Syracuse. The Cars will always my favorite band. I truly hope this footage is public someday. This IS the Cars to me. Pre Heartbeat City (I love HBC but it marks a leap off a cliff to me - the production not the songs). They are tight, energetic and stripped down which is just fine to me. I am so glad I just found this!!!
15 year old me was there! This was a great set. Seeing the accompanying photos of the shade setting over the crowd brought back memories of being in that crowd and waiting for that shade to reach where I was and bring some relief from the 100 degree heat that we were in all day. That lead to memories of sleeping in the dirt with cars driving and people walking by, creating what amounted to a constant dust storm. I was blowing dirt out of my nose for a week after the concert. Was it worth it? HELL YES!!!
These guys are so tight. Each player plays their own part. So many intricate parts going on and no one steps on the other, I give tons of credit to Elliot and Gregg. All are spot on. Vocals are all great too.
Elliott, Gregg, David, and Ben are due writing credits and the associated cash flows for all the songs in the Cars catalog. I don’t believed that Ric wrote all those intricate lead guitar solos, layered keyboards, and drum programs. I hate to think Ric was like David Byrne or Brian Wilson who stole writing credits and money from their bandmates.
Night Spots is my favorite Cars song on my favorite album, Candy-O. "Oooooh, how you shake me up and down. When we hit the night spots on the town...Owww!"
They sound looser and more playful than usual and even on the verge of spinning out of control at times, but that may just be sound bouncing around. Either way I love this walk on the wild side!!!

Misfit Kid !! I bet that was a rarity
Thanks for the great concert a always looking for new old cars concert or anything live
Riveting, thirty nine years later. Thank you, Donna. I had to smile when they played Misfit Kid, such a rarity to hear. Our Cars are a rarity!
I've seen them 4 times and never got to see my favorite song - "Misfit Kid" live. Loved hearing them play so well again.
@@chucklewis9938 “Lust for Kicks” is another favorite and I think obscure song never played.
Oh gosh, it must have been an awesome experience! I hope one day the full footage will be available
I was there over 110 degrees that whole weekend !!!!!!
That’s great! Wow and Hot! I would have fainted but not cause of the heat 😉

Has the rawness of their earlier days.
I heard there was so much C backstage that it was blowing in the wind & it couldn’t be avoided.
Great sound quality. A gem of a find. Thanks so much for posting. Nightspots rocks it!

A really keen “Cruiser” love it loud
Man, if the studio version of Cruiser rocked as freaking hard as it does live it would’ve been a humongous hit!
The whole concert wow!
Almost 40 years ago and has lost none of its appeal.
Great days! Great band!!!
Looks like Ric got to the lightning bolt guitar strap before Benjamin. 😁. What a set list!
They bought it from Ace Frehley who needed beer money at the time.
Amazing Setlist ❤ & Coolest band at US FEST 82!
Fabulous 🎶👍🤩
That little Rickety Ocasek did wonders with The Cars! Best American band ever?!

Ric was a crap singer. This song would have been so much better with Ben as lead vocalist. Ric makes my ears bleed.
RIP Ben Orr , Rick Ocasek..
