When I went for my fitting at PXG for a 3 wood, we had trouble finding the right combination for me. The fitter decided yto put me in a 5 wood head with a 3 wood adult flex shaft, but tipped to make it a regular. (my swing speed is nowhere near you and Gaz) So we ended up with what we called a Frankensteined 4 wood, effectively but I hit it with way more control and on average, further than my driver. I can frequently get it out there 235-240. So when I slip into one of my stretches where I can't hit the driver straight, I park it and just play with the wood. I did that last week and had a great round. The PXG fitting experience is just outstanding.
I’m new to the PXG brand and grabbed a few of the gen 2 woods recently. The 3 wood in particular is amazing. Getting similar results off the tee of about 280 just a few yards short of my Ping g400 driver and 260 from the fairway. The hybrid is promising and I’m also testing out the 7 wood ala DJ for a 4 iron replacement. If you’re curious about PXG Jump on the sale.
I have had the GEN2 XF in my Bag for nearly 2 years now and love it! The quality of the product is amazing and after 2 years of use there isn't a mark on it anywhere and it still looks almost brand new! At these new prices, it's a no brainer!!!!!
Great review and really insightful! I have PXG 0211 and 0311 irons and stand behind the engineering and quality. I am now intrigued to try the new PXG driver and compare it to my SIM. Keep thes head to head reviews coming! Top quality! 💪💪👍👍🔥
Hi James you were asking if anyone else had bought the deal with pxg gen2 I bought one on Saturday afternoon there it was from American golf in Glasgow they only had 1 left it was gen2 driver 0811X with a stiff shaft hazard yellow similar to my spec in my cobra f9 speedback I really like the pxg driver only hit it 5 times on the course yesterday but was impressed with it James
I have the pxg prototype, its amazing how moving them weights a bit makes if feel like a totally different club. I've gained 20 yards on center hits. But even bettet is how much more consistent I am.
Good point on concentrating by hitting a club with a smaller head. They used to be that way. Maybe that thought would be good on all clubs and not take that game improvement for granted.
Now's the time to pick up PXG as they've really dropped prices. Picked up a 3 wood from them and boy are you right, the head size is more of a hybrid visual than a fairway wood imho. But they do pack a wallop if you hit it in the center (which I rarely do unfortunately). Even their proto drivers are under $400 right now.
I bought the PXG 0211 irons at the end of 2020 at a cast of $85 each. They are great feeling clubs. They feel like forged but are cast. I’m 68 years old. I was playing Callaway XR steelheads. The PXG 0211 feel better, are longer, and more forgiving.
Yes, I’ve bought the XF driver on “that” sale. Only been out twice with it before lockdown and absolutely love it! It feels a lot less spiny than my ping G. I took the 60g yellow hzrdus smoke shaft 1/2 inch shorter in a 9degree head. And I haven’t lost distance as far as I could see in the 2 rounds.
Try it on the course. I find that off mats, that my 3 wood doesn't fly as high as it does outside. Turf interaction, soft vs a hardish mat to hit off. Could if needed, loft up 1* as others mentioned. 280 is a bit far unless you use a 5 wood for the 250 ish shot. I was very tempted watching this to order that 3 wood.
I was considering buying a new driver just cause I've always bought used ones and after this video looked into pxg. Ended up buying the 0211 for the price. It was 249 in the US.
The Gen2 models were £600 for the driver and £450 for the fairways when they came out, the new 0211 models are the budget version with not much adjustability, Gen 3 models will probably be out soon with the normal high price tag.
I bought PXG Gen 2 0811 XF and I was gaming the Ping G400. Granted I was fitted for the PXG but there was no difference I could tell on course. Except possibly the sound of impact. Put both in my bag and went out to the course and the PXG won the job!
That 3W is a rocket! You could consider moving a little weight to the back. It would increase the forgiveness and spin while potentially regulating the distance.
I had the PXG LX 0811 driver.. low launch, low spin. Fairway fonder but couldnt hit it well enough to get the spin above 2000 rpm! Ball dived out of the air.. heat on the links and in the wind... her shot of it for the SIM!
Gaz, it’s good to see you are human and have miss hits, like the rest of us mere mortals. I like the look of the PXGs, kind of wish I had held off buying my Cobra King
When Gaz bought the PXGs and then told us the driver was £250 my ears were opened so today I have bought a driver from PXG for £250 called them and told them my age, swing speed, shot Shap hight etc so the ex with 50grm senior shaft 12.5 degree of loft with the option of vist to fitting centre to fine tune even wife was impressed. Just watched Gaz hit 3 wood i believe i have a bargain thank you boys
@@garymartingolf you are killing that three wood! Definitely think the loft up will give you a better ball flight but still allowing it to be very penetrating
Hi James, I brought one in early December, I got the XF driver , love it just need to get it dialled in once we’re back out on the course, love the ball flight and it’s really forgiving 👍
OK........ all you did was justify my world. I game a Ping G400 Stretch 3 Wood. 13deg, but I can adjust it to 12 deg. I am 71, I hit this thing off the deck, 200-215. Mostly straight. Screw the Driver. It gets me in trouble. My bad. He was killing that 3 wood. Loved it.
I have a fitting for the 9th and really hoping they still have gen 2 0311 XF irons. Temporarily sold out online as of now. Would you have gone with the 0211 otherwise?
Good video! With regards to the difference in weight of the shafts. It's worth bearing in mind that the Pings are usually the heaviest heads on the market, roughly around 210g+.
I'm sure they are discontinuing these hence the sale however have released a more affordable model as well as a new high end model. I got the xf driver
Clearly just need some fitting The 3W is optimal the Driver needs to be set up for his swing. PXG will be getting a lot of attention this year on You Tube with your mates for sure! Thanks James... My new 0211 irons are on their way. Just can't resist the crazy low pricing! If I do buy any more PXG it will be at a face to face fitting locally especially for driver!
"a strong lofted 3 wood to hit it further..." You mean a 2 wood! From memory when I got a hand me down set of clubs 45 years ago it had persimmon woods - a 2 wood and a 4 wood. I still like playing a 4w
PXG looks great! Looked forgiving enough as well! Definitely been looking at the PXG website more. I know I can’t sneak another club purchase this year. lol going to have to see from a far.
Great video lads you don't see PXG against the top brands, I would like to see more against the other brands because I was like you Gaz I got the proto gen 3 with the best head over lol 👍👍
Picked up the gen 2 driver just before Christmas, then had a look at the putters and had to have one at that price, I ended up getting the spitfire one and now thinking of getting the 3 wood after watching this. The misses will not be happy.
What gapping are you looking to have after 4 iron ? After 4 iron i go 19 degree hybrid 15 degree 3 wood then driver 4 iron is 210 carry driver is 270 carry. Leaves 60 yards for just 2 clubs to fill. Maybe we should have more lo g clubs than wedges?
James good video. Need to control lighting and exposure it’s a little distracting. Try increasing little in the space, bounce of ceiling rather than the camera adjusting for exposure 👍🏻
Got some PXG gen 2 irons arriving this week along with the proto driver 😎 What is the head weight of the pxg driver compared to the ping? Ping are always quite heavy over 200g. Taylormade are normally around 195g... maybe Gaz just swings a heavier club better. Would be interesting to see what happens with extra weight added to the other drivers like the sim.
Currently playing ping g driver,3;5 wood about 3/4 years old, always admired GXG & was thinking of upgrading would love to try these & at the price they would look lovely in the bag if I can ever get the bag out again lol
I only wish I could hit it that long but I’d say the concern is the gap between a 290 yard 3 wood and 230 yard 2 iron but with that distance with a 3 wood Gaz don’t need a driver.
Great vid James and Jack (Whitehall) sorry, I mean Gaz ;).... I know a few mates who have bought from this sale, just hope they can take the stick when everyone starts shouting 'boom baby' after every shot 😂
Seriously he should buy the 5 wood. I’m gaming the same driver but using the 5 wood instead of a three. Easier to hit straight and with low spin it still gets close to 3 wood distance, but with a better decent angle.
Hell yes 👍 I'm jealous, I'd love to hit my 3w 287. I normally hit mine 250-260 but I am also jealous because I've wanted PXG clubs for a couple years now.
Love the look of that 3 wood. I’d be thinking could you leave the driver out, considering the distance between it and 3 wood is negligible, and then maybe look at a 5 wood or 7 wood to gap for the 250 yards?? Those 3 woods were off deck too. Realistically there’s no point in carrying a driver that’s on as far as the 3 wood?
I have that PXG driver and it is super low hitting. I hit everything high except the Gen 2 X. It is 10 yards longer on average then my epic flash according to shot scope on course.
Interesting comparison, not so much brand but distances of 3W vs. driver; sold my driver as a result and getting a new one this season. Is this a fitting issue or inability to hit a driver? Hitting my 3W about the same as my driver is terribly frustrating! Thoughts?
Interesting. Of all the drivers I have tested or owned and this includes most brands over time, including recently, aside from my gamer the m2, the only one which I really liked and improved my numbers including much reduced dispersion (thanks probably equally to the shaft that was used by me), the pxg gen 2 d 10.5 was by far the best including feel. Another great vids guys. Very interested in the PXG lineup. Hero’s pricing is making these a true contender. Love to see you test their putters!

@@SlicedBreadGolf you bet
Enjoyed watching two great mates trying out ones new toys. I can see Gaz getting a PXG 5 wood next
I can’t wait to see Gaz test them on the course

That PXG 3 wood 🔥☄️
I think what James said about the smaller head helping with concentration could be something
I did the full driver fitting and they made loft , lie angle, shaft and length adjustments. I am dialed in now. PXG fitting is worth it

Gaz just seems like a proper sound fella. PXGs look boss and as said very reasonable
Great review, I do like it when you have Gaz on the channel 👍⛳️✊

I love the PXG grips. They are Lamkin Z5 (5 grip zones). Unfortunately, Lamkin told me they don't make them anymore. 😕
Now's the time to pick up PXG as they've really dropped prices. Picked up a 3 wood from them and boy are you right, the head size is more of a hybrid visual than a fairway wood imho. Unreal! 287 with a 3 wood off the deck! Great video! I just ordered a new PXG 0811 XF Driver!
Brilliant marketing move on PXGs part. Got me hooked….
Really enjoyed this one James 👍be interesting to see a bit more of PXG now they are more affordable for the masses

Great content, two people who know each other and what they're talking about.
Thats a nice comment 👌🏼
I think if you use a different weight in the back it is supposed to be more forgiving and raise the launch angle
It's the truth about reinvigorating yourself. I rarely hit driver until I bought my F9, and ever practiced putting until I got my new putter.
keep at it Gaz!some day you ll be long enough to play with the guys l listen to at my course...
😅 Cheers
Will be interesting to see what happens on the course.
Stick with the 3 wood Gaz especially with those numbers 👍

That 3W is a rocket! You could consider moving a little weight to the back. It would increase the forgiveness and spin while potentially regulating the distance.
I just got that same PXG only a 5 wood. The head size is definatly scary. Nice to see him hit it better then the bigger Ping.
Excited to test my 0811 x now, noticed the shaft is 3/4 inch shorter than previous so will be interesting to see if easier to control!
Gaz needs to play about with those weights on the driver I think. If I were him I wouldn’t touch that 3 wood, it’s an absolute rocket 😂

If you adjust the driver to the PXG setting it will straighten out the ball left as makes it flatter lie (so I have been told)🤔
Since I'm a veteran of the US Army I can get those same clubs for like $300 total. I can get the 0211 irons 5-LW for $800.

Wait till you get the weight in the driver in the right place with your fitting .. will go way further than the ping .. mine does .
Same here. I went from the G400 to the Proto 0811+. Happy with my decision. However, never a knock on Ping. They make great clubs.
