    Just a point of fact . The clubs are “oh three eleven” and “ oh two eleven” Oh three eleven is homage to Mr. Parsons’ MOS in the USMC.

    I have the 0211 irons and am very pleased. I agree with your assessment 100%. It really is a matter of feel and budget. I’ve always believed a forged club is a tad bit tougher to hit because of their smaller sweet spot whereas the cast club is larger and easier to hit. Just my opinion.

    I owned the 0211 for 10 months and loved them, everything you said about them I agree with, the feel and the sound is amazing for a cast club and they perform very well. I loved them so much I decided to get the Gen3s, simply because I prefer the looks and you can’t beat a forged club. Although the 0211 sounds and feels great, the gen3s are the next level and then some! They are simply amazing and the playability is unbelievable, in my opinion they are the best iron out there. 0211 with the Core2 is good, the GEN3’s impact reactor is better. Like you said, it comes down to the individuals budget, either way they are both impressive in their own right.

    Great review Andy. I am expecting my full bag of PXG clubs in a few days. I agree 100 % with your assessment between the Gen 3 and the 0211. I tested both clubs and I liked the look of both irons. I ended choosing the Gen 3 XP because they gave me a little more ball speed, and they felt much more forgiving. Also, the wonderful fitter I worked with said the forged Gen 3 were easier to bend for my lie angle which was 3 degrees up. I have had five back surgeries over the last 25 years and I am still able to play this game. I really feel that PXG clubs are fantastic looking clubs that are so much easier to hit then other major brands that I have tried. I hope to get out on the links later this week with my full set of custom PXG clubs. Keep the awesome videos coming! 🏌️‍♂️Todd Ritchie

    I went to a PXG fitting gung ho ready to buy the 0311.
    Here is what I found...
    The P versions were a little too small (head wise) for me and the XP version was too big and too low spinning (because of the super strong lofts). I loved that 0211 was a blended set where the heads are larger in the longer irons and smaller in the shorter irons. It's really hard to blend the Ps and XPs because of the sizes and lofts, they just don't blend very well. I wish PXG made a 0311 blended set.
    In terms of feel, I honestly couldn't tell the difference. The fitter explained that they both use the same face and are both multiple-piece construction irons. The "Forged Feel" relates to irons forged from 1-piece of steel. It's a lot of marketing to say a multi-piece head with a forged back feels better, in my opinion. The feel, in my opinion is mostly about the face and the "goo material" inside the head, which are both wonderful!
    Personally, I do prefer the looks of the screws over the 0211; it just looks more mechanical and techy.
    In terms of spin numbers, a lot has to do with the lofts and I agree, there is not a lot of difference in real-world playing conditions for an "average" golfer. My 7-iron is 31 degrees and soars higher than my Miura 7-iron that was 32 degrees and has zero roll-outs if I hit it well.
    The milled back looks primo and is probably worth the money if the clubs suit your game.
    One of the benefits of a cast head is the loft and lies don't tend to move over time. Forged clubs need to be checked and adjusted at least once a year, I'm not sure if this applies to PXG forged clubs but definitely applies to 1-piece forged clubs.
    Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with any PXG iron in terms of performance and feel. I came to PXG from a forged Miura iron and quite honestly PXG feels better and are more fun to play.

      Hi, did you notice much difference in forgiveness?

    • @pipebliss
      @pipebliss 3 года назад

      @@gregcarnall9097 Not really, but I ended up selling the 0211s and getting Gen2s because I want heavier swing weights. There are limitations with swing weighting the 0211s because they don't have the weight screws. The Gen2s are now $125 on PXGs site and the 0211 are discontinued, the new 0211s are $115 so I think it's worth the $10 difference if you want specific swing weights.

    I agree. Spin numbers don't really matter. It is all about the golfer and how he attacks the ball. I have had Callaway Apex Clubs, Titleist T200 and now the PXG 0211 and I land them all the same. There is not enough difference in them. It is just what you want to see at address.

    I went with the 0311 Gen 3 P irons over the 0211 because of the feel and I was just hitting the 0311 better . The 0211 is a good fit for for some but I got a better ball flight out of the 0311. Plus as a personal preference I “Loved” the look of the 0311 just felt like they were more PXG!

    Great review on these two.
    I have a fitting scheduled on the end of the month, December. I’m
    Focused on the 0211’s but will also be hitting the Gen 3 0311@: as well. Hi em the fact that the 0211’s are you on sale for $77 a club and the 0311’s are $133 a club I’m gonna to hit both during my fitting down here In South Florida. Obviously PXG is known for their Uber ohh end prices but at the sale prices I believe anyone lookin at a new set of irons deserves to have these on their short list of clubs to hit. I’m
    Currently playing an older
    Set of Titleist ZB forged blades. Great clubs but I just can’t hit the consistently like I used to…

    Andy - would love to see a head to head with the new Scottish club maker Caley Golf(aka Old Tom) vs the 0211. Looked at the specs, looks, and tech with minimal differences. Plus, the Caley is a sub-$400 set of irons and 0211 is now selling at $89 per club.
    Both budget-friendly sets but would like to see if it's work the extra price for 0211 or save some coin & go with Caley. It's easier to tell the wifey if the set is sub 400, but if I have stats to show why the others are better it would help my case.

    Another great review, Andy. I totally agree with the overhype on spin numbers. It doesn't need to spin back 20 feet on every shot: just give me a 15 foot putt for birdie and I'm happy.

  • @justinstephenson9360
    @justinstephenson9360 4 года назад +1

    Simple maths indicates why spin rate can be over-rated. Spin rate is quoted in revolutions per minute (rpm) so 6000 rpm is 100 revolutions per second. If a 7i spins at 6000 rpm and a good shot has a hang time of 5-6 seconds that means that when the ball lands it is spinning at less than 100 revolutions per sec, and a different 7 iron which spins 600 rpm less is spinning at most 10 revolutions per second less than the first club (due to degradation in flight it could be as little as 5 revolutions per second less when it lands). Peak height and descent angle are far more important to the average golfer.
    Back to the irons - being a Ping i210 player, I am believer that cast clubs can feel really nice. But those Gen 3s are just so beautiful!

    Great vid Andy , totally agree the average golfer is too caught up in spin numbers especially when it comes to wedges. It’s all marketing , they con people into changing wedges out nearly every season , we are not tour pros , they hit a thousand wedges a day ,compared to the once or twice a week round of Normal people , and they aren’t paying for any of their clubs

    Agreed on the spin up to a point. Where it does matter is on the very long clubs coming in at lower descent angles. Given that I'm not hitting many greens with a 3 hybrid and I'm more likely to hit it heavy and need the roll anyway, it doesn't make much difference to us weekend golfers. Height and descent angle is the overriding factor when it comes to holding greens and most of us hit them high enough to hold greens with mid and short irons with just about any ball.

    Did you consider strengthening the 2 degree of loft of the 0211 irons to increase distance?

  • @Jjwalways70
    @Jjwalways70 4 года назад

    Andy , spin is overrated for sure , however if you don’t have enough peak height and landing angle you will never stop on the greens , for example if the person generally has lower ball flights a low spinning iron would not be suitable .

    • @TheAverageGolfer
      @TheAverageGolfer  4 года назад

      I agree but the low ball flight should be addressed in the custom fit and finding a balance of ball flight, launch angle and spin are part of the process by a good fitter

    • @banditbaker1675
      @banditbaker1675 4 года назад +1

      That depends on personal preference, golfers who are used to steel shafts like the feedback through the vibration up the shaft into your hands, graphite reduces the vibration so gives you a smoother feel. These days with all the shaft weight & profile options there is pretty well a shaft for every golfer in both steel and graphite. But you need to try both and get fitted into the correct weight and bend profile for your swing.
