    For the average golfer having tons of shaft options imo is overkill ,I'm sure the 6 options Tokomo offer there will be one that fits , the most important of the options will be the weight of the shafts and most golfers know if they need a heavier shaft or lighter shaft due to their swing speed . Every year I play between 10 - 20 sets of different irons , flexes and weights ( I have access working in a golf store )and shoot the same scores ( I play to a 6 .4 index ) I'm getting older now , 60 and this year have played senior graphite 60 grams to D.G s300's which are 130 grams , with the heavier options I take out the 4 iron and add a 5 hybrid to maintain launch and distance , if your younger error to the heavier stiffer shafts and if your older error to the lighter softer flexes and remember you can order soft or hard stepped if you don't want to drop a full flex , and yes there will be exceptions but from what I have experienced this is a good guide for most players.

      Agree. Average golfers should be spending more money on lessons and more tine practicing than on gear.
      Consistency is what it's all about and until you're consistent, your clubs will have minimal input.

    • @sandersson2813
      @sandersson2813 2 года назад +7

      @@joestuart914 Your average golfer is off something like 16.
      Regardless of whether they have been fitted or not they aren't consistent enough to have the club on a consistent plane or path.
      Grooving a better swing will give them far better results than a new set of clubs. Bad workmen blame their tools.
      If you get fitted first before lessons then your swing and everything is associated with it is going to nullify that fitting as your swing becomes better and therefore will no longer be fitted to you.
      Just because you are fitted, doesn't mean that is you fitted for good, as golfers get better and worse your fitting will not necessarily be right for you, especially if you aren't very good to begin with.
      If you're off an average handicap, you're probably better with a half set of clubs and actually learn to hit a ball properly.

    In the US, PXG is an absolute no-brainer choice (especially if you qualify for 'hero' prices). Currently they will fit you for just $25 (1 full hour session in person) and that investment applies to the price of the clubs if you decide to buy. PXG is full customization including choosing specific irons in the set, loft, lie, grip sizes, and multiple shafts (several at no extra cost). Currently Takoma website is only sold as 4-PW so getting gap & sand wedges are an extra $99 . This narrows the real-world cost difference for most average golfers who are ditching the 4 (and often 5) irons in favor of easier to hit hybrids. I have no connection to PXG except being a firm skeptic who bought a set to replace my Callaways after a fitting and A vs B TrackMan testing (PXG's more forgiving and 1/2 club longer at same loft).

      PXG, anywhere outside the US, are an overpriced ‘boutique’ brand. A set of 5-GW is €1050. For game improvement irons they’re not anywhere close to Takomo in terms of price which are less than half that.

    Thanks again for your videos that included the Takomo line...one correction to what you mentioned here, you CAN get custom built irons from Takomo...I had been fit by PING and used my PING fitting (R flex, 1/2 inch over length, one degree upright) to custom order my Takomo 101s, which arrived today...Takomo has the KBS as its standard shaft but also has another steel option, as well as a Fujikura graphite option, which is what I went with in R flex...it DID take a long to get them delivered and I suspect it was due to the customization...that being said, I'm excited to try them out and they look great, especially given the ridiculously low price of the 101s...Takomo should give you a commission..cheers!

    One other point to mention, you can just buy 6-PW for the PXG while Takomo doesn't give you that option. Per club PXG is more expensive but if you don't need the 4 & 5 irons, they work out to be more or less the same price.

    • @mrmeman98
      @mrmeman98 2 года назад +2

      I feel like paying the same price but getting 2 less clubs shouldn't be labeled like a good thing though. You are still put in the same situation as you were in before. Not getting the longer irons is understandable as some don't play those clubs and others use certain irons for those jobs but I don't think that this is something pxg has over Tokomo. Tokomo is a very new company compared to all the rest, they will throw out more options with more customizability sooner or later.

    I was basically debating between PXG XCOR2 and continuing use of my Wilson C100s. I went with the PXG irons, as I also took advantage of 0311 Drivers sale, and $50 fitting cost for all. The PXGs are basically a club up from the Wilsons (if I said that right). The XCOR2 4 iron matches the loft of my C100 3 iron. I feel like the PXG loft dispersion will give me wider flexibility among other advantages. I'm really hoping I see improvement / a better fit to my game. I'm also going from a Ping G10 driver to the 0311 XF. I'll let you know how it all goes.

    Very interesting and appreciated! I'd been leaning towards PXG (now that I'm a "senior" golfer) but I'm always drawn to the siren call of value -- which on the surface argues for Takomo. Trouble is, I don't know my ideal lie angles, optimal shaft etc. I had all of those set on my Mizuno MX-23's I got almost 20 years ago -- and then I realized they're still in great shape, my game has improved (finally down to 9 handicap) and my fall flight is straight and true if a bit shorter than I used to hit. The absolute best value for me, then, is to keep playing what I have but if I were going for new, I'd go PXG 'cause of the low cost club fitting and customizing my set -- I don't need a full iron set; fairway woods or hybrids fill the gaps from driver down to 6 iron for me!

Takomo clubs are 4-PW no options unless you buy just the heads and no lie adjustment. The steel and graphite shaft options were limited. The fitting option does not exist except for their online system so you have to know your specs. If you know a good fitter you could buy just the heads and have them built. I don't get it. Allegedly, the resale value -- IF you decide to resell the Takomo irons, which may be a doubtful proposition --- is less, so don't buy them. But they are less expensive to begin, so where is the loss?? I cannot see that that situation -- i.e., less expensive at first and lower subsequent resale value -- is any different than it would be for any product. In short, you saved your money up front.

      @@michaeloja8589 I think what the guys are talking about is immediate resale, ie: within the year or less, you just cant get along with them, then you will find the PXG will hold their value, maybe you lose 20-30%, whereas the Takomo you might lose upwards of 50%, but also the time/annoyance cost - the PXG will pretty much be snapped up if you put it at a half decent price, whereas you might be advertising the Takomo for a long time trying to find a buyer, and you might only attract tire kickers who make stupidly low offers. Ive bought and sold alot of clubs as im a club ho and love trying new things, and i can say Ping are such an easy brand to sell, whereas my cobras/taylormade took a little longer (despite being much newer models) and my current gamers Srixon i feel will be more difficult as well, and will subsequently sell for steeper discount. Its like Scotty Camerons... i dont think they are the best putters on the market by any stretch, but the brand is so strong, even 5+ years old they sell for only a small discount and generally are snapped up no problem. Now try selling a Sik or LAB golf putter - you'll find its a much longer odyssey ;), and you'll likely lose a fair bit on what you originally paid.

    I've watched quite a few videos on shaft flex. Quite a few blind ones too, including yourself. Most had no idea except for the tour flex stiff shafts. Which naturally are quite heavy and should be able to be felt. But normal through stiff no one had a clue. For mine it's got a lot more to do with the club head weight and what you like to feel through the swing.

See how they compare to the much more expansive clubs. Shes only 5'3 so she had to have custom fitted clubs for her over the stock wilson set she has... You also get a money back guarantee from PXG if you are not happy with your clubs. Interesting video. Those Takomo irons look lovely. Had a look at their website and found the custom fit options to be quite good. Lots of shaft. More than i originally thought after watching this. Certainy for a reasonably newby to the game who wants something new but doesn't want to spend a tonne. 7 irons for less than £400. I looked in my spec of 2 degree upright and half inch longer with the KBS tour 120g shaft. That's mega value. Had a look at the PXG. Did the same spec as the Takomo and £950 for 7 irons. Well thats a massive difference. If they are a direct to consumer model i'd be wanting to try them out for that and i don't think from the video you liked the PXGs much more than the Takomo. I'm wondering If i missed something in your video or wasnt getting it but their websites were very different in price to what you said. £550 difference. Which is significant
