I had a contract with Wilson in the early 70’s and they were considered one of the best club makers at that time. They were for me as good as you could get.
I just got fitted for this Wilson Carbon and was hitting it 20 yards further than my Callaway Epic. Impressed to say the least. Wilson is back!!!
In my opinion, it's cool to save money and still get top quality products. For me, that makes Wilson, cool AF!!!! Plus, they are a great historic golf brand. Wilson Staff irons won a lot of professional golf tournaments. If I'm not mistaken, they still hold the record for most Major wins with 62. Glad to see them coming out with great products at "reasonable for golf" prices.
Exactly, i played staffs & staff goose necks back in the 80's, they were great! Glad to see them come back into vogue so to speak!!!
I just bought this driver yesterday. I was at the PGA superstore trying out all Ping and TaylorMade drivers, among others and just did not like any of them all that well. Then this club was sitting to the side and just for fun picked it up. After I hit it a handful of times I chose it over all the others. I was totally sold. Awesome club. Great feel. Great sound. Great forgiveness. I just played a round and hit every fairway between 260 and 280 yds each drive. Like I said, awesome club. Chose it over all the other "cool" namebrands. Funny enough a month ago I bought a Wilson putter and love it. I have played golf for 25 years.
I've just bought it. I'm a massive Wilson fan so can't wait to try it. I have the Dynapower irons and have gone from 22 to 16 handicap in the last 6 months
You are right about the brand. People will instantly dismiss it because it isn't a TM, Callaway, Titleist, Ping etc rather than hitting it and going off performance.
I do think if they put 'Wilson Staff' or 'Wilson Staff Model' on the bottom though it would turn more heads. It's got a Wilson Staff logo on the bottom after all.
I got fitted for this driver yesterday. It performed much better than the other 7 options for me. Very straight hitter, lower spin, and OK distance for me. Very happy with it.
I just bought a used one on eBay. A super bargain and can’t wait to try it this weekend!
Paper routes and odd jobs financed my Wilson products (bb gloves, balls, golf clubs, etc.) all my life. They were top of the line then, including the Wilson Staff clubs. Staff was an unforgiving club design. Ping was the forgiving clubs of the day. I am glad to see them make a viable 2020's club; might give 'em a try.
Great review. I love the Wilson golf brand and would not hesitate having that driver in the bag. I have purchased the Wilson Staff CB irons last year which, considering I don't have a handicap yet, were the nicest to hit of all the other irons I tried. They are a great brand at a fraction of the price of the big 4. I am looking to get a new driver and when finances allow, this be what I will be purchasing.
I don't think you would regret it if you did Michael
I don't have a Wilson driver, I bought the Callaway last year. If I was in the market, I would totally check this out. I already play the D9 irons and am strongly considering the Dynapower 5 and 7 woods this spring!
Thanks!
I just purchased the Wilson Dynapower Carbon, after a Trackman 2hr PGA session. I tested all the major latest Drivers and it was virtually identical to the Ping G430 Max, as an equal best preformer. But with the price difference, went with the Wilson. The same proved true for the Irons and Fairway Woods, so I now have a full set of Wilson, with the Staff 54 and 60 degree Wedges. I was buying purely on performance, with the data to prove it. I'm a little shocked, but super excited by the outcome. Great channel Lee :)
I did the same thing with irons. I have new d9s in my bag. I dont care if they are cool or not. I care who is closer to the pin.
I thought the 430 max would be more similar to the DP titatuim than the carbon? The carbon more like the Lst?
I got Wilson set as a gift. Never knew anything better (I used before 30 years old Callaway irons I inherent before I got this new set). Now I’m on a market for a new Driver, and seriously considering to get this one.
I love my Wilson irons - D9 Forged - and would've seriously considered the Dynapwr driver if it had been released a few months earlier (I ordered a TSR2 in October). The price alone is amazing, but the reviews have been brilliant as well.
I am seriously looking at the d9 forged, only thing is keeping me back is- do I get a GW or a 4i Also HC is 14 so maybe it's too soon for these harder to hit forged irons , not sure as of yet
@@conalsands4748 get fitted and order them! They are genuinely great clubs. I tried Mizuno JPX923, Cobra, Ping and Srixon and the the Wislons won for both feel and price (I would've gone the Mizuno but they are crazy expensive). As a 14 HC, you'll love them and will probably drop a few because the D9 Forged are so good.
Haven’t played a Wilson Staff driver yet but most of my clubs are now Wilson Staff. Love them.
I got a left handed Titanium version brand new in September for a ridiculously low £179 and I think its great. Took a bit of getting used to at first but I suppose thats the same for all clubs. Hitting much straighter than previously and although difficult to judge in Autumn/Winter certainly not lost any distance on my regular playing partners. Love it!
Another great review! Always have thought Wilson to be so underrated, this looks really great! Thanks
I’m watching this after trying it at the range today … I was having a final head to head with cobra against ping lst …. Decided on cobra then was given this in the carbon to try … was blown away tbh I’m bagging the demo to try on course Sunday .. can’t wait !
I have the New Staff irons. The softest feel and best ball Flight I have ever seen and I have had them all. Glad to see Wilson returning to the competition 😊
Deff going to give this driver a try -- I've always rooted for Wilson and they seem to be returning to making quality clubs this year -- Milled 8802 putters etc etc -- thx Lee!
That's it you've made my mind up going for a fitting for one of these
I tried the driver yesterday and it is amazing. Preformed better for me then the other drivers. So a proper step up from where they been for a few years.
If I where looking for a new driver this year it would stand between the tsr or the wilson for sure. But I will stick with my old rouge since it still works as well as the new stuff. Maby it isnt as forgiving but close enough 🤣
Yes! it was really straight!!...Glad im not biased so this could be my choice! and those 649 euros prices are ridicilous! As a principle...one club just cant be that valuable!! Thank you Lee for review!!
Just purchased a set of Wilson clubs. Underrated and good value for money.
Never had a Wilson drive, but have played wilson c17 irons in the past, and looking back they were great irons
I am looking forward to testing this driver, never said that about a WS driver before but love their irons. The fg59's are my favorite ever set of irons
I have a Wilson FG F5 with a stiff shaft, it is my gamer and I hit it very well for a 66 year old. Been looking at this DynaPower Carbon as a possible replacement, and from what I can tell, I can keep my shaft (Fubuki Z50 5ct, which I love) and just by the head. Both utilize the 6-way adjustability adapter!
I've just put this exact driver in the bag. had a fitting last week, came out with the Carbon model, and picked it up yesterday. Fantastic club, and performs as well if not better than the other big names. The fitter advised against the Callaway Paradym as it didn't perform any better, but cost almost £200 more. I'm a big Wilson fan anyway though.
Great video mate and love content from the minor brands I game the d9 irons very forgiving and at least 200 to 300 dollars cheaper than the big brands will be definitely testing this one
Love my new Wilson driver. So easy to hit. Amd for the cost, I got the 3 wood too. My handicap index dropped from 14 to 12.
Absolutely great review. I'm buying the carbon version in 9 degrees. Best driver on the market for sure
Just got it and it’s ridiculous!! Excellent ball flight and straight as hell -
I love my Wilson Staff clubs !!! From my DI9's , FG Tour M3's and D7's !!! Currently playing D7 irons , hybrids and woods as I dont play as often as I like and more forgiving than the FG complete set I have . The D7 driver was def a step up from the Spine ,Triton, and FG drivers I have. More forgiving and does have more distance than the rest. I love all the comments I get from players out on the course!!! Even stranger's love the look, sound and distance! I could spend more on the other brands...but!!! By choice I am a Wilson staffer for life!!!Get on the Staff!! Or feel the shaft!!
Off 10 and have the titanium version. Easiest 270 with 10-20 left to right I’ve ever used. A lot better than the G430 Max in my experience. It replaced a TSi3.
Wow glad to hear just that as I have to decide between the TI. And the carbon and soon , I was always learning towards the Titanium as it is more forgiving and the carbon interestd me too ,tho it might not suit my skill level ( 13.8) or even s.speed ( 96?) Probably going to just set with the Ti. Tho the ' draw' description is putting me off a lil bit as I dont know how it will take off, btw I was going to try it with a ventus blue shaft
I'm a 72 year old golfer and had several sets of wilson. They used to be a number 1. They went down hill, they are making a come back the last ten years so no problem trying and buying.
I bought the titanium Wilson, and just played my first round with it yesterday... you're right this club is GREAT! It preformed just as well as my friend who has a Ping G430. (I tried out his club a couple of shots) This has the "Long Ball" part of the game COVERED! As for the Wilson brand, I like them, I've also been using the Wilson Triad ball for the past year; It is without a doubt the BEST putting ball EVER, no fooling. I say for anyone looking to upgrade their driver this year to save the money and skip the G430, the Paradym, the Stealth 2, etc... and get this.
What is it distance wise compared to the same year releases and is it true the only stock shafts are 54g?
@@conalsands4748 distance wise I could hit the Ping around 285 to 300 yds. same with my Wilson (longest one I've hit though was about 340 yds.) also true, stock shafts are 54g.
@@deankraft3350iv been looking at the Dp again, the titanium but I would much prefer a slight heavier shaft like 60g
As always a good review Lee. Would like to see it in your bag to show your not afraid to have Wilson driver on display. Quick question lessons on how to hit a driver or buy a new driver? For me lessons as a new driver can't improve your game if your technique is all wrong.
Had it in the bag today for 10 holes. Performed lovely
Lee, that was a solid review. Personally I am a big fan of Wilson clubs, and I am glad to see the Dyna Power name being used again. I have my Wilson Staff persimmon woods (1,3,4) put away for safe keeping and my Staff Fg17 Tour Blades too.
That new driver is certainly worth a look and the price is attractive.
I am still playing with old Wilson Soft Stroke fairway woods in my bag. 7 wood is 25 degrees! Very consistent clubs
I hit both over a month ago! I’m all in on Wilson!
This is $299 right now. Ai smoke is like $700. I just Put this in the bag today. Man it is straight and long. I like how it dont spin crazy and penetrates. Great driver.
I just did a fit and ended up with this Wilson. Funny it was said people won’t play it because it says Wilson. My fitter asked if I was okay with Wilson and when I replied, “I don’t care. I just want better accuracy and distance.” He said, “Good. Because you hit this the furthest, the straightest, and it’s cheaper than everything else we’re trying today. Go enjoy better golf.” 😄
@nk48 Nice! The people at my local PGA store have nothing but great things to say about Wilson. Now you have to try the Dynapower fairway woods. Those are the best clubs I've ever hit. They shoot rockets.
I think it is definitely cool . I play older Wilsons and they are very consistant. Great video, Lee.
I love my D9 Iron set. Unfortunately I bought a PXG driver just before the Dynapwr came out. Missed that. Would love to also play a Wilson driver
Good video, thanks for sharing
Watching this video and the door bell rings and the courier presents me with my Wilson dynopower carbon driver …. Spooky but GREAT 🏌🏻♂️👍
Congrats on the 2-mill views Lee, big milestone ticked ✔️
Thanks Colin
Good review Lee. Ego's shouldn't get in the way of a brand that has most major wins under its belt.
End of this seoson I changed my Titleist ts Driver to Wilson dynapower titanium an my 718 ap1 irons to dynapower irons and now I play abaut 5 shot less in every round than before. Wilson is best🎉.
Not surprised at your findings...I just dumped my P790s for Wilson Staff blades and my Ping G425 D and 3W for Wilson Dynapower...My biggest sin of all is I dumped my Cleveland wedges after using them for thirty five years for...you guessed it, Wilson wedges...I urge you to test them on your channel...I was getting 12,500 RPMs on a ¾ shot (75 yards)
I play an almost entire WS bag irons wedges and fairway woods.
But the drivers always lacked. But seeing the good reviews this dynapower has been getting I may look into dropping one in the bag.
For those of us in the know Wilson Staff were the choice of champions for many years. Montgomery, Faldo and Langer all won with them Going back even further, Sarazen and Snead also won majors with Wilson clubs. Nothing to sneeze at here I can assure you.
Exactly !!! When exactly did TM become cool ?
Be cool to see you do a head to head with your ping driver
Agree on the name sometimes unfairly putting people off. I realised that when I went to sub70. Lower price doesn’t have to mean inferior.
i haven't played a Wilson driver but i really want to try this one I was put off with the woods after playing the D7's. When they were hit right they worked well BUT they sat badly at the address and made hitting a clean shot that much harder which just became annoying. It sounds like Wilson have addressed this so for sure would take another look. Love Wilson as s brand and you can't argue with the value.
I have got the Wilson D9 13 degree driver but with a 3 wood Aldila shaft in it. Massive improvement on the Wilson Launch pad I had. When I get it right what a club (just don't do it very often.) I've always struggled to find a driver I really like. Their are always Personal clubs .. the putter and the driver. I DONT think I WILL EVER change my sand wedge. I have a 54degree Titleist offset DCI . It's a Shovel wedge out of bunkers. Never had an issue getting out of the sand with this club
I went to PGA Super Store to buy the Ping G430 10K. I also tested the newest Callaway AI Smoke. After hitting about 25 balls with each brand into the simulator I was handed the Wilson Carbon from the PGA club specialist. I was handed the club and never asked what it was or even looked at the branding underneath the clubhead. I hit about 5 balls and loved the feed back from the simulators data and my ball was going much straighter and further. So now i must know what this club is. I look at the underside of the clubhead and couldn't believe it. It was a Wilson. Right away I was shocked but I insistead hitting the Ping and Callaway a few more times before hitting it again. I then went back to the Wilson. after hitting about 4 more balls I turned to the club specialist and said I want it. I want this club. I couldn't believe I was buying a Wilson but it just felt like the right club without a doubt.
Great drives with Wilson's latest.
I have played with Wilson clubs for many years and agree with you. But here in Australia Cobra Air X 24, Cobra Ltdx and Cleveland XL2 Drivers are all cheaper than the Dynapower.
I bought the Wilson Dynapower Carbon driver last weekend and it absolutely smashes balls down the fairway.. I love an underdog story, and with Wilson Staff putting out a premium driver that is just as good as any other brands’ best, I had to own it. I’m so glad I did 🔥
Great to hear!
Good for you for not being snobby about a top brand. I find golfers shut up pretty quickly about brand when they see you are hitting better drives than you did before. When the improvement is obvious, jokes turn to silent envy.
Had a session with a pro during the week and he gave me this and the Paradym, 430 and this to try. It was by far the better of the 3. I’m pretty much sold on it but going back next month to do a proper fitting before buying. I’m already leaning toward this though
Any update?
@@conalsands4748 yeah went last week and had a lesson followed by a fitting. Came down to Paradym X and the Wilson but ended up with the Paradym. Was a very close decision but the heavier shaft available in the Callaway felt more comfortable and I could control the swing better, was the only reason I didn’t go with the Dynapower. I couldn’t decide so hit one final shot with each and the Callaway was the better of the 2 so went with it, that’s how close it was
I got the carbon dynapwr half price at my local store on thursday and i was gaining ball speed from 152mph to 161mph.
I think this driver looks and performs better than the new AI Smoke and The QI10.
My first full set was a Wilson k28+, 1980ish, did not replace until 1999, Taylormade Burners, went at Adams Irons, and Now am gaming a 2019 M2 driver, M4 irons, IF, I needed to replace Driver, I would game Wilson Again, 60 yrs old.
Get it in the bag! Lee Whittaker hitting the driver consistently straight is a scary prospect... Looks like i need to try it as none of the others match up to my gamer TSI3 this year (aside from the TSR3 in the same settings).
Played 10 holes earlier and has a lovely power fade
Wilson is so retro!!
I have no played a Wilson driver before. But I have played the M3 3 wood and M3 Hybrid. In fact, I still am using the M3 Hybrid. And I used to play the V4 irons. I also still use my Wilson 1200 X3 double milled putter. I would test the driver out in the Carbon version and if the numbers were good, I’d put it in the bag. Especially if I get the right shaft in it.
My friend Jim Howell also played Wilson’s in the 90’s and even gave me his 60 degree from his playing days. That sucker spins like crazy. I still break it out every now and then.
Great watch Lee the Driver looks and sounds the business and £200 pounds safe in the wallet It's a thumbs up for me
Very informative and helpful video, Lee. Videos that stand for product performance are what we need as there surely are enough videos that only mention the top 5 or 6 brands. Congratulations to the golfers who rise above brand-image and buy a Dynapwr because it performed best in their testing. I had a Wilson driver for several seasons (I don't know the model) and I would buy Wilson again. Or any other brand, based on what tests best for my game. If you buy Dynapwr and your driving improves but your golf partners continue to joke about your choice, is the IQ level of someone you should spend your time with?
Just got mine brand new for $300 here in the states. Eager to use it
I think it’s one of the better looking drivers this year. Great review and hopefully more people will give them a go ! Curious which shaft was you testing with?
Hzrdus RDX stiff mate
Wilson Staff irons are fantastic. If they brought back the red/black logo, i’d buy again. This driver is tempting
A great review, Lee. Hopefully it will help get the word out about the Wilson. Great bang for the buck.
100%
Nice setup and video. May I know which projector are you having?
Hit the carbon version the other day to compare it to my Ltdx LS. Straightest driver I’ve used in the last 3 seasons and length was great. The Ventus Blue is a great choice for a OEM stock shaft.
Not the real ventus. If it doesn't have the velocore it isn't really a ventus. They don't come with the one technology that makes the ventus line special.
@@codycook3382 well that sure didn't stop me from purchasing a real one as I liked the feel of the OEM version. :)
And now I'm ca. $380 shorter than I was 2 weeks ago.
Just waiting to get well so I can go try it in my TSi3 in the local sim.
Switching from Stealth to the Wilson Carbon. Simply the better driver. A no brainer...
Well done Wilson
Great video, I love driver reviews but I just find it hard to take the prices seriously when you know a PXG 0211 is available for £199 with an adjustable loft sleeve and range of fitting options.
I bought one last fall when they were on sale. $149 CDN. Absolute steal and PXG service has been fabulous
@@TrixieTopper Yea we all bought one. I actually got mine with a Diamana shaft for $119. Sold it 3 months later because it was literally performing like a $119 driver. Even when I cranked it down to 7.5 degrees it was the spiniest driver I ever played.
Great review
I've never been a brand guy and personally I usually stick to just 1 brand and leave it there, I don't like the culture of having to change perfectly good functioning clubs or drivers simply because the newer cooler models just came out, when you buy clubs you're thinking of an investment for years to come, not something to change the minute they release the next sparkling new ones.
I was walking by a PGA store and saw these new Wilsons and I was so surprised at how good these clubs looked and felt, Wilson is a leading brand in many other sports, their lack of presence in the golf world doesn't mean much to me when I know for a fact that Wilson has always been an excellent brand in every branch they tackle, the humbling price compared to every other brand is so good for the sport as well, I truly believe they will position themselves in short time and other brands will have to understand that things don't need to be so pricey and start having more affordable options once Wilson starts winning more and more buyers. I can't wait for this.
After seeing all these reviews and the amazing feedback and surprise from everybody using these, I wouldn't be surprised if I bought the set myself once it's time for new clubs!
I will have to take a look before this season starts!
I don't think you will regret at least trying it
Good review Lee, only better you are getting with the reviews. I can tell you like this side of it much more than Dan.
Issue for me in Ireland is local golf shops won't have this Wilson to test.
Can you tell me what it compares to most at address....does it sit like a ping or Callaway?
Sits very similar to my ping driver probably why I like it so much
Definitely trying the carbon one!
thank you
I went for a fitting before season and was fitted into Wilson Irons and Fairways/Hybrids. I kept my Callaway driver. I am now wondering if I should do some horse trading and go with a Wilson.
Well having Wilson on it won't bother me one bit. It's 2024 and I have never played a Wilson driver but I am going to buy the carbon version . Played many a set of Wilson irons and wedges but never the driver. Time to give one a go !
Another great review
Thanks again!
I will be buying this
Good review Lee, 👍
Thanks 👍
Great Review!!!! ….and it is cool to „bomb“ down the fairway with the „underdog“ and did save 200 pound! -isn‘t it ??😂😂😂😂
I’m looking at this driver as well as Tour Edge 723 C driver . What shaft were you using in the video ? I’ve played Cleveland, Srixon, and Taylormade . I don’t care about brand .
HZRDUS Smoke Black Stiff
@@LWG Which driver do you consider to be the better option for you between Wilson Dynapower or Tour Edge C723 ?
Good review Lee 👍sounds like you need to put a G430 Max vs Wilson video out soon! Winner goes in the bag for 2023? Would help me out as I have a G410 and looking to switch to G430, not so sure now!
It’s very close between them.
I have played the carbon version of this driver for a year now. My ball speed is slightly higher with this driver than the big brands and pound for pound I keep up with my buddies. I tried both versions of the driver before I bought my driver and the titanium version spins too much for me. And because no one was buying this driver the dealer allowed me to test all of the shafts and choose the one I wanted…the big 4 might be too popular to allow that option. IMO this is a great choice for a budget conscious buyer who wants performance….and remember that ppl notice scores if you keep putting them up vs what you are playing.
I didn't know they had a new driver out but will definitely go and try it now. Was looking at a new driver in the bag and have been put off by the prices for what will be little gain on the course. How adjustable are the drivers?
+2 degrees or -1 degrees
I agree it is a great driver. The Wilson factor hurts it because their professional players don’t play it and the trade-in value will probably be about 60 bucks in comparison to paying Taylor Mather Titleist, Cobra, etc. but since I’m trying to win I’m playing Wilson.
For a mid HCer would the titanium be the better choice,? If there's more forgivness .. all the new drivers have this ' carbon ' description like it's a must have in anything new so if the titanium doesn't does that make it just like the ping g15?
Maybe you mentioned it and I didn’t catch it but are you putting this in your bag?
Also, love the format of your club reviews with the course testing and then getting numbers on the monitor! Great job!
Will play a few rounds with it but ideally need one a little better specced for me but it’s a high possibility
Had a custom session today and tried a few different drivers and to be honest the Wilson driver came out tops by far, there was a close second by the new ping but at £150 more it wasn't worth it.
Hot tip. Pickup the Wilson D9 for half the price of this. It's 9/,10ths the same ! I just grabbed one and its amazing. 105mph swing speed here.
Really? They were saying the d9 was good but not quite up there with the other big names was this new one not a big step up? Did you hit both side by side
@Conal Sands yep, side by side. I was 3 yards shorter with the D9, with roughly the same dispersion. In Australia, the D9 is now $300AUD, versus $700AUD, so was a no brainer for me. The dynapower feels more solid, but the results were very similar for my 105mph swing speed and angles of attack.

I first picked up Wilson Staff when I bought a barely used 4-GW Di7 iron set for $200. They have "fat shafts", that don't taper down to the club. Apparently most people cant stand the look or feel. I hope people keep dismissing wilson staff.
That way, I can keep getting their top of the line products at a discount.. 😅
I tried out all the new drivers yesterday in a fitting session and the Wilson out performed everything so stable and consistent. I have no problems buying a Wilson. If anyone does then they are not serious about golf and just a pier with their overpriced big brand driver
£350 - £400 and considered a budget driver......the world's gone mad.
Lee, your right about the name, but I only see Wilson golf on RUclips, they need to get in to pro shops, push there product more.
