    Oh, this will be helpful. My 6 month old Goldendoodle, Sky, is very hyper and energetic, it gets tiring some times on walks! She will pull and pull no matter how much training and energy she lets loose before, she just wants to run haha 🙃 so we pretty much gave up. But her current harness, she slips out of it :( and her collar chokes her... so this will be interesting. We’ve pretty much given up on walks by now, it’s just the dog park and backyard time haha.
    Edit: I fixed a spelling error 😅

My labrador Lucius is good for me but no one else 😅 but I can't walk him with my other dog as they both tend to wind eachother up too much. I have some gencons (head collars) that work well to help them walk nicely if I need to walk them together ☺️ cant wait for puppy videos!!!

    We have a new puppy and have tried 4 other harnesses. They were difficult to use, expensive, uncomfortable for the puppy and did not fit right. Because of the poor fit our puppy was able to chew on each of the harnesses. One lasted a whole 10 minutes before our 5.5 lb puppy chewed threw it! Then I saw the Wildebeast harness that you recommended. It is fantastic! Very easy to get on and off, our dog actually walks with it on and he hasn't been able to chew it! I wish I'd discovered this video before I'd purchased the other harness~It would've saved me about $100!

      Yeah I actually do need the harness advice so the brand promo didn't really help me as much as it distracted me and I got weary of it... I currently have three different harnesses for my 3 month old labradoodle. Lol and she keeps getting out of them even after I try to twist up a leash around the shoulder pieces so that she can't stretch through. I have a three-year-old who enjoys playing outside... AND the puppy needs to be potty trained and she's scared of the trucks outside that drive past my house all day long. I'll never be able to potty train her outside if she keeps escaping and coming back into the house!!! Lately I've just been keeping the front door open so she is forced to hear the trucks all day... 😅😅

    • @trailmix_grapedog1913
      @trailmix_grapedog1913 4 года назад +1

      Jessie Henley hmmm...I’m no professional but maybe you could try using a smaller sized harness for your puppy? If you have the right size and she still escapes, I have heard about a harness that’s really good for dogs who like to slip through, you could try using them (although they’re a bit pricey 😬) ruffwear.com/collections/dog-harnesses/products/web-master-harness Also, it’s really great that you keep the front door open to desensitize her from the trucks! You seem like a really good dog parent, best of luck in figuring things out with your new puppy :)

    I've seen many people advocating against harnesses that cross the shoulder articulation, arguing that it restricts movement & it's bad for them... what would you answer? Currently shopping for my puppy since his medium harness is getting too small. So far we have an RC pets that works great, I am trying to decide if we go for the same model or something different. I recently got Yeti a new harness, due to getting frustrated with his old one. I do like the new harness we got, which slides on, much like your’s does, except ours’ hooks up on Yeti’s back.
    I like the treat pouch too. That’s cool that it hooks on.

    I don’t use or recommend anyone to use front clip harnesses. The reason is because they can damage and cause discomfort to a dogs shoulders. Dr.Zink (a veterinarian) has done articles on it explains the damage they can cause. I say this not to hate on the video or anything like that but to educate. You can find more info @helpingpawservicedogs in Instagram. Under her Victoria Stillwell post.

      I came here to say the same thing. Here's a good explanation of why this type of harness restricts natural movement: facebook.com/notes/tierphysiotherapie-brigitte-jost/reflections-on-chest-harnesses/1369929759778331/

  • @randomperson1943
    @randomperson1943 4 года назад +2

    I have one of those! My 4 month old GSD is super strong. This helps soooo much! But his new trainer who he starts seeing next week says not to use it cuz it hurts their shoulders. I don’t see how. It only cinches in enough during a pull to give a gentle hug to remind them to chill.

    • @bitchhp2973
      @bitchhp2973 4 года назад +1

      This style harness is bad for puppies because of where it applies pressure. To start, it is indeed an aversive, it works by casing discomfort. However, the problem lies in the fit. It restricts the gait of dogs just because of how low it sits over the shoulder, and if the design tighten when a dog pulls . This causes overall discomfort and it can mess with puppies growth causing long term issues.

    • @randomperson1943
      @randomperson1943 4 года назад

      THAT GIRL ;P so Rachel shouldn’t be doing a video on how great this is then?

    • @bitchhp2973
      @bitchhp2973 4 года назад +1

      Gingi W ideally I don’t believe she should be promoting this style harness, or at least add the disclaimer to not use this style harness on growing dogs. I also think she should have acknowledged that this tool does indeed work by discomfort and annoyance, as that’s part of the reason many people do experience success with this harness.

    • @randomperson1943
      @randomperson1943 4 года назад +2

      THAT GIRL ;P can’t the same be said for martingale collars, slip collars prong collars? I dunno...people gotta do what they gotta do. This harness just being on my pup keeps him from pulling. He doesn’t even try anymore. But if I clip the leash to his collar he freaks out and pulls and jerks and almost chokes. So even just the presence of the harness on him keeps him from pulling. Like complete loose leash. As long as you don’t use it wrong it is a great and safe tool

    • @bitchhp2973
      @bitchhp2973 4 года назад +2

      Gingi W the point of my comment wasn’t that it’s an aversive. My main point was it’s bad for the growth of dogs. Yes it’s an aversive and should be acknowledged as an aversive tool, but the main worry is how it’s dangerous to puppies growth. Anyways good luck with continuing training and starting to work with a trainer.

    Praise, treats, and toys don’t typically act as reinforcers or distractions if you’re too close to the thing they want. If you have distance, a ‘let’s go’’ cue is helpful... but if you’re using leash pressure and negative punishment isn’t cool. We know better and can do better for our dogs. There’s also room for dscc and straight up desensitization.

    Hi Rachel and everyone in the comment section! First time watching these videos and love them. I’m a first time dog owner and I rehomed a very sweet mini poodle (now 1 year old). I’ve noticed that he does not willingly put his harness on. Previous owners thought it wasn’t an issue but I feel bad having to force him into it. It doesn’t look like he likes it. I’ve tried step in and over head harness and he ends up walking away. I tried to find videos from this channel on any advice but couldn’t find anything. If anyone can help provide some help that would be amazing. I’ve tried just using his collar for now but he does pull and I worry about him coming loose or hurting his neck. I read online it might be best to keep using collar while training him with the harness. It seems he’s associated it with a bad experience and I know I keep pushing him when I put it on. I feel stuck as I don’t want to keep making this a bad experience for him. He ends up liking the walk anyways after he shakes off the stress, but always bugs me when trying to put on the harness for the walk.
    Love this community and channel btw!

    The second harness I bought for my puppy has an additional leash clip on the cushioned chest triangle - I didn't buy it for that reason, if anything, I feel a little anxious about using it, but seeing this, I feel like I'm less anxious about trying that front ring out to maybe stop him from pulling towards other people and dogs.🙈 I usually use the one on the back, but he's getting heavier and stronger by the day, so I might have to focus on his pulling habits a bit more in the next couple of weeks🙏 it's not a wildebeest harness, though, but I love the idea of the flexible front part, I'll look into them asap - sure enough, the current harness won't be the last I ever bought 😅

    I am thinking about getting a golden doodle as a first-time dog owner, I am currently 17 and have been given the opportunity to get a dog and I'm extremely excited. I have been doing extensive research about taking care of a golden doodle and have so far looked into things to do with feeding, activity, and am now looking into brushing teeth ( have watched your video ) and grooming. Is there anything that owners of golden doodles or just dogs, in general, can tell me as a first-time dog owner? A reply would be appreciated, and thank you! P.S: we have found a breeder that provides several things with the dog (I.e. Deworming, initial shots, vet visits, crate, potty training, sit commanding, etc etc.).

    How do you keep it all around your waist? Is that a special belt for clipping on leads on. Please send a reference for it. I’ve tried hands free running lead set but the leads tend to be too long and the buckle not very secure. Please help!

    Does anyone have any tips on how to calm a puppy down at night, after I take him outside to potty? I take him out, let him do his business, and bring him right back in. He just cries in his crate and I was wondering if you have any quick hacks I could use. Just because I am in the process of training but, I would like some temporary hacks,

    • @yolog4137
      @yolog4137 4 года назад +4

      There really isn't any hacks. What I did with my dog was this:
      When you take your pup for it's late night potty, don't interact with the dog at all. Just simply grab the dog, take him outside to potty, bring the dog back into the cage.
      You want to make it as boring as possible so the dog understands that it isnt play time. Try not to turn on any bright lights as well.
      If the dog continues to cry you can let the dog sleep next to you in their crate and see if it stops. If it doesn't, just place it in a room where the whining won't disturb you and eventually the dog will learn to be quiet.
      Hope this helps

      I can relate my dog hates the crate maybe crate train your pup and get your dog to get use to the crate is also if your dog already pooped or peed and you are not going anywhere without your dog then your dog doesn’t have to be in the crate your dog can be loose in the house while be supervised. Maybe put a bed in the crate to make them more comfortable these tips i all did for my dog and they worked she before hadn’t been happy in the crate also make sure your puppy is exercised before you put him or her in the crate if you need anymore tips ask me I’m full of tip for dog training.

      It’s not going to happen quick there are no temporary tips it will have to permanent dog training takes time and Patrice if your dog doesn’t do what you want strait away you have to be very patient with your dog I was at the last point for potty training my dog but I gave it time effort and patience you will a trained dog soon don’t worry

      Try a blanket, there is also an amazing product on amazon (cause who DOESN’T love amazon?!) it’s called a snuggle puppy for puppy anxiety, it’s got really great reviews and many people are saying that it helped SO much with the first puppy weeks 👌

    Do you wrap the leach to your body? If so is that better than having it in your hand? What do you do when they try to jump on someone walking opposite direction?

    hi! just wanted to check if this is still the harness you are using and would recommend? we just bought the easy walk for our 26 pound 6 month old puppy because she's still walking ahead on the flat collar, what are your current top recommendations for easier/safer walks? thanks!

    Glad the harness is working for you, but a harness that cuts across the chest and shoulders and cinches when a dog pulls, like the one in your video, is not considered a great design by most modern canine physios and trainers, and is generally said to be not good for a dog's anatomy. A y-front harness like Perfect Fit leaves the shoulders free and doesn't restrict movement, and would be a better choice imo, teamed with training of course 🙂
    Just something to consider for your next harness. Take care x

      Jenny McK thank you! I’ve tried those as well. Worked excellent for some of my foster dogs. With Fin, they didn’t fit quite right. But I agree - training is #1 ❤️❤️❤️

    Can you take your dog for runs with this harness on them? Someone told me that it will hurt them to do that, but they aren't a very liable source. This harness would be amazing to use on my dog, he is so hyper and no matter what you do he won't walk nice on a leash. But we take him for lots of runs, would I be able to use this for runs and take him with me while I ride on a bike with this harness?
