  • Gain MORE BOOST from your HY35 TURBO.In this video I wanted to go over a couple different options for making more boost from your hy35 turbo on your 00-02 2nd gen 24 valve cummins trucks with the 47re automatic transmission. The first option I go over is using a x-hook or a j-hook. The x-hook and j-hook simply connect to the hy35 on the front side of the compressor housing where the wastegate actuator is and then they hook over the wastegate arm arm back on the hy35 exhaust housing. I have never used a x-hook or j-hook but I believe that they are adjustable so that you can still allow the hy35 turbos wastegate actuator to open up and function but it will not open all the way, which will allow more exhaust gasses to spin the turbine and compressor wheel creating more boost for you. The second option i go over is simply installing a turnbuckle that you buy from home depot or lowes onto the hy35 turbo wastegate actuator. With the turnbuckle option there is no adjustment. It will hold that wastegate actuator completely shut allowing all exhaust gasses to spin the turbine and compressor wheel to create more boost for your 24 valve cummins diesel truck. Typically people want more boost out their hy35 turbo when they have added more fuel to their truck. Whether it be from big injectors or a fuel box/tuner on their cummins diesel. They look for a little more boost to go with that added fuel for a slight increase in power and to help keep lower EGTs. The hy35 turbo is still a very small turbo at the end of the day so it is not going to help lower EGTs a whole lot, but it will certainly give a small boost in power with added fuel mods. You won't notice huge gains from it being a smaller turbo with a smaller exhaust housing and turbine. If you are adding more fuel to your 2nd gen 24 valve cummins and want more boost to go with that extra fuel, it is probably smarter to do a hx35 turbo upgrade or upgrade to big single turbo. WIth the hx35 turbo upgrade you can adjust boost levels much easier with adjustable boost elbows and it will create a little more boost naturally due to being slightly larger than the hy35 turbo. same goes for a big single turbo on your cummins. The larger exhast housings and turbines create lower EGTs and the larger compressor housings and compressor wheels create more airflow and boost and compliment that extra fuel from your cummins big injectors and cummins tuner nicely.

    All I did was crush the vacuum boost line with some vise grips. About a 30 sec job and cost nothing (If you have a pair of vise grips). Works well too.

      How does the turnbuckle attach to the wastegate itself?

    • @JosephArata

      @@holdinator9855 the compressor efficiency map stops at 33 psi on the HY35. You're better off buying a new Borg Warner S362 turbo, and an adjustable wastegate actuator, to net 40 psi.

    I deleted mine and it pushes about 30 to 35 PSI out of it the Hardline the slides out of it it's got a little rubber o-ring on the bottom of it

      Tyler Webster how did you delete it? Did you plug the hardline? And did it stay connected to the compressor housing?

    Take that turbo, stuff it in a corner, and install a Borg Warner S362 with an adjustable wastegate actuator on the truck instead.

    What kind of boost numbers can a guy be looking at from a stock set up?

    • @purepanorama8484
      @purepanorama8484  5 лет назад +1

      If it's just the stock hy35 you're looking at around 20-21 psi on average unless you really get into it then it may jump a little higher. If you slap a turnbuckle on the hy35 you could see numbers up around 30 or just over. Hx35 turbos are about the same unless you add an adjustable boost elbow then you can get up pushing around 35ish safely for that turbo.

    • @purepanorama8484

      It's all going to depend on your fuel set up as well. Whether you have a tuner, injectors or both.

      I searched Craigslist and lucked out and found one on my first search. Have you thought about just ordering a modified hx35 from turbo lab of America? Its not gonna cost much more and you'll get a 63mm compressor wheel and 67mm turbine. Better performance all around for a few hundred bucks more. Comes to your door freshly rebuilt and ready to party! I'd look into that man!

      you fucked it up. no pounding on assembly. should slide together with slight gap.

    • @purepanorama8484
      @purepanorama8484  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah, you shouldnt have to pound anything back together. It should all go back together fairly easily, like it came apart. Did you check everything over really well to make sure there is no cracks in exhaust housing or anywhere else?

    • @dustindunphy

      @@purepanorama8484 I'm guessing it's because I freed up the waste gate while I was in there. I took my camper up in the hills this weekend and realized it's not so much a whistle but a change in tone. The exhaust housing was a b$%&* like in your hx35 exhaust housing removal vid so I didn't think twice when it was a pain getting it back on. Thanks for the reply and thanks for all the work you put into your vids. I'm a Cummins newb so it's very appreciated!

      @@g__wizz The slight gap is what worried me. Before I did the rebuild it seemed there was no gap. I was using a rubber mallet but I probably didn't clean the mating surfaces well enough.... thx
