- 2nd Gen 24 Valve hy35 to hx35 turbo upgrade explained more. I didn't have time in the last video to really explain much about the hy35 to hx35 turbo upgrade in detail. This video I give a little more detail on what it takes to upgrade your 2nd gen 24 valve cummins to a hx35 turbo from a hy35 turbo. This video can also be used by anybody looking to upgrade to any turbo. I go over the simplicity of changing out your turbo on your Cummins truck. If you're planning to upgrade your stock hy35 or hx35 turbo to a s300 or s400 series and keep it as a single turbo, then this video will explain how easy of a process it is to remove the old turbo and strap in the new one. The beautiful thing about these cummins trucks is that everything is so easy to get to and to take apart. My hx35 turbo install took me one hour and I got it all done on my lunch break at work, right in the customers driveway! Time to order a hy35 rebuild kit and clean that thing up.

This summer I'm putting a hx35 as the small turbo with a s480 as the bigger turbo I'm pusher compound turbo kit on mine and when I'm doing all the work on my Cummings I'm going to drive my clean go to town or out to eat 7.3 until the Cummings is done
OK...take a look at that oil supply line. It is installed incorrectly. It should bend to the left not to the right. Why you ask? Obvious to some, but It is over the exhaust manifold!!! which my guess is that it runs that oil to the turbo 20 to 50 degrees hotter? (maybe more) way more than it should be. The temperature of the oil entering the cassette is getting way too hot; it is that super-hot supply line over the manifold.... that is a (your) bigger problem. Shoot a hand pyro one foot to the left and tell me I am wrong. Funny the OP does not realize this mistake but what about keeping the turbo oil supply cooler? Not like this. Trust me, mine is on the left and for good reason.
my 1998.5 24v auto came with a HX35 from factory
I use a borg warner
K27 450hp supportable turbo
Nice, I'm save up for a big single 63mm, I already have hamilton 103lbs valve springs and Hamilton heavy duty push rods to go in. I live in Canada and have a 2000 Reg cab 5 speed Cummins and the floor on the driver's side is completely rusted out with a huge rust hole about 3 inches by 10 inches 😅
That's what I have planned to do with the hx35 when i send it out. That will be coming down the line and possibly a completely different set up in general. I can't say too much about that though just in case it doesn't happen for a little while. I don't want people getting upset haha.
can you get a piece of metal welded into your floor board?
I thought you guys in Canada use Krown?
FYI Stainless steel has a higher linear coefficient of thermal expansion. It stretches more than cold rolled steel fasteners per input of thermal energy, which can lead to premature gasket failure, and thread degradation. Stainless is much more sensitive to mechanical property change from temperature cycles additionally.
How did you remove the bottom flange nut closest to the cab holding the turbo to the manifold? Any wrench combo tricks? This last nut has defeated me right now!
How did you get it out I’m having the same issue
@@24vmarc95 get yourself an S type wrench. Harbor Freight or wherever has them. It’ll work. You’ll get enough leverage on that bastard of a nut! Worked for me. Let me know.
@@mistymtnhop6821 will do , appreciate it brotha

Why not upgrade to a 4 inch adaptor for your exhaust on the back of the turbo? 2004 /2005.
High temp header paint would have held up better than the engine enamel.
I know it. That is my fault for using what I had at the house in a attempt to get something on it and install it on the truck. I may have to pull it back off and respray it. The egt's get too warm on it.
900 degree F caliper paint works really well too
Maybe I'm an idiot but what's the trick to getting the rear bottom nut off? I can't get in there with a socket.
Did you get it? Cause I’m currently trying to get it too and I can’t
@@btu_snipez_yt3070 harbor freight extension I think. Good luck.
First. How big is that vband clamp on the elbow for the intercooler piping 2" or 2.5"?
I'm not sure off the top of my head. From looking at it I would guess it is a 2.5" though. I can double check it. The compressor outlet flange has to be at least 2.5 inches on the hy35 and hx35 turbos.
scratch that, the vband actually appears to be a 2.75 i think.
VHT ceramic engine paint. 2000F rated
Bro my 2002 Cummins is missing.. idk if it's my turbo or what . Can you get me some tips plz
If its got a miss then I would think i would check the injectors out first.
I wish there was a factory upgrade that was this easy for my second gen 12v since I already have the hx35
Nice with that hx35👍🏻 A tips, dont use stainless bolts on the exaust, they look good but break more easy than a 8.8 grade and if they sit a while and you want to remove them they will probobly snap off. Keep up the good work👍🏻
Where did you buy the hx35 from ?
Found it on Facebook marketplace.
Do you know if a hx40 turbocharger will mount right on a 02 dodge Cummins or do you need certain mods I know its gana be 4inch pipe all the way back didnt know about everything eles to make it work?.
Who does turbo machine and rebuild to the hx35? And does anyone make a swap kit for this mod? And would you recommend buying the turbo from a junk yard or from the internet?
I'd look for one on Facebook market place/craigslist. Contact turbo lab of america. They are familiar with machining these turbos. If you're swapping from a hy35 turbo then it is a direct swap, no kit needed. Just replace your gaskets for good Insurance.
@@purepanorama8484 awesome stuff. Where can turbo lab do a total rebuild with new shafts and all?
If you have 125 over injectors you probably need way more turbo than that hx35. That truck must smoke like a sob.
Kind of sounds like you have a boost leak
How much was for the turbo it self
And how much is for the whole set up
Need one for my 06 5.9 Cummins
I bought the hx35 used for 200 bucks and then 50 bucks for a rebuild kit. Just rebuilt it and cleaned it up then installed it with new gaskets that are a couple bucks from diesel auto power.
so long-winded good info but man
That turbos nice !! Good job smoking out those bikers lol !!
I usually don't do that stuff, but when people get up on your rear end and act like they're in a hurry and I gave him a chance to go around me and he didn't but still kept riding my tail side... well, let me give you a little tailgater repellent.
pure panoRAMa yeah... A sport bike squeezed in between us and the white line while we were passing on a two lane dotted line road... We kept him in the opposing lane till he just got in behind us and we blew soot all over him lol !! That's what the butt deserved lol !!
That Powerstroke Bloke lol, drive like an idiot get treated like an idiot. Some people would tell at us for that behavior but they probably do the same thing👍 haha
pure panoRAMa haha ikr !! But I drive like you treat me.. Treat me right I'm nice. Be a butt.. I can be meaner lol !!
What’s so cool about blowing smoke on anyone who rides a bike? They weren’t tailgating or anything. Blow smoke on the pedal bikers that fuck up traffic.
