    I got the acceleration boost on my Y LR more than 10 months ago. At first it didn't feel that much faster than before, but now it feels VERY significantly faster. I use CHILL mode 99% of the time, but if you know in advance that you are going to need a significant performance boost - say for overtaking on a 2-lane highway with limited overtaking opportunities - then the extra acceleration is very much appreciated. Highly recommended.

    Love your videos and humour. I’ve been subscribed for some time.
    I have a RWD MY and it’s bloody brilliant in ways which my BMW i3 isn’t so good in. Equally, my i3 has qualities the Tesla lacks, like acceleration and handling.

    Got the AB a couple of years back for my Y long range and no regrets. Its a tad bit slower off the mark than a Y performance but has very similar pulling power in the 30 to 60mph range where its most beneficial. The long range is value for money running smaller wheels with fatter profiles than the performance for daily comfort. Im going to upgrade to air suspension to improve the comfort and handling once the warranty has finished..... will be the perfect car for me then.

    I have a M3P and the acceleration is bonkers, I have timed 0-60 at 3.2 seconds and when I first got the car and floored it in sport mode it felt like I was on the Rita: Queen of Speed ride at Alton Towers, that’s how I describe it to people who haven’t experienced it. It is overly quick, but it’s fun and it never gets boring. I would love to drive the Tesla Model S Plaid, I can’t imagine what 0-60 in 1.9 seconds feels like!

    I bought my Model 3 Dual Motor LR AWD used with Acceleration Boost already installed by the previous owner. It's bonkers and takes the 0-60 to below 4 sec. The acceleration has genuinely made some passengers feel nauseous.
    My 94yr old mum loved it and made me do numerous standing starts!
    I drive most of the time in Chill mode though, it's fast enough for most daily driving. I have Sport enabled by a long press on the LHS steering wheel button for when I need to fly past a slow moving HGV.

    I had a M3 performance. Scary. Front end went light under full acceleration. Only tried it once or twice. So I am more than happy with my MY and found it does not need full gas to overtake anything I need to get by safely. So It's a totally pointless waste of money for me. I would sooner go for the enhanced Autopilot as this is brilliant. Much better than the standard auto pilot, and the auto summon is great at parties. I will be adding this to the Juniper when I get it.

  • @MikeProcter1

    Thanks @justgetatesla I only have an M3LR, and thought that chill was around 7-8 seconds, but standard is quick, at around 4.4 seconds officially. 0.5seconds off that is mental. I drive in chill most of the time. However, if you have Enhance Auto Commander fitted, it has kick down, so you can drive in chill, but if you press the throttle by say 95%, it brings in standard mode in around a second, so it is less brutal.

    Great video Ian. Interestingly I opted for the 3 performance 2 years ago. It’s crazy. 0-60 is 3-1. BUT…. when, 2 years time I change it, I would opt for the long range, probably Y, probably cherry red with white interior (not that Ive thought about it 😂). I’d then do the performance boost. The performance of the 3 perf is properly crazy and its mid range is actually quite noticeable over a ‘boosted’ long range. But you just don’t need the full on performance in my opinion.

      @justgetatesla  3 месяца назад

      My Y is a lard-arse compared to your 3. So is a good second or so slower to 60. As you say, it’s the mid range that is the difference- even with the acceleration boost. Whilst the stats don’t lie and my 0-30 time is quicker, it feels like the power surge through 30mph is where it really goes crazy. Like grab your guts quick. Great fun 😁

    Here's a thought: If you enable acceleration boost, does that count as a "Modification", or do the insurance companies consider that to be "standard build"? Your remark at the beginning suggests that the power is already factored into the specifications that the insurance companies use.
    If the insurance companies consider the optional acceleration boost as being part of the standard spec, should they? It goes back to my previous thoughts. If you go the other way and select "Chill Mode" and the insurance companies accept that your car is less powerful as a result, will they give you cheaper quote?
    Historically if you remapped an ECU on a petrol car, then that was always classed as a modification by insurance companies even though no hardware is changed.
    But would I buy this package? Nope. That would just get me into trouble, especially with the proliferation of absurdly reduced speed limits in the highlands (with more to come in future everywhere else).
    They (Government and various campaign groups) are suggesting:
    - 30 mph speed limits on country roads (which are part of designated "active travel" routes)
    - Government Guidance for 20mph in urban areas more generally
    - A suggestion that there will be a review of "National Speed Limits", which I think is code for 60mph going down to 50mph, and 30mph going down to 20mph.

    It's so funny how in the UK people (mostly men) are obsessed with 0-60 times ! I have owned 911s and other fast cars in the past and they were nothing more than a source of frustration. Where I live they have reduced the speed limit on virtually every country road to 40mph and traffic means that I am usually stuck in it !! Seeing how fast you can go down a motorway slip road wears off fairly quickly in my experience! So 0-60 times are all about bragging rights down the pub, are of little use in the real world and put up your insurance premium for nothing worth having
    I have decided that all I need is to be able to overtake cyclists quickly and safely so anything under 7 seconds will do fine - that's why I got the RWD MY, which is plenty quick enough! Strangely, I do still appreciate the 0-30 performance for getting out into the traffic at roundabouts and the like. My BMW i3 is brilliant at that and surprises the hell out of people in sporty ICE cars at the traffic light GP! lol

    I have thought about it, and I won't be doing it anytime soon. I already broke the bank buying Perl (2023 MY LR AWD) and therefore I drive in CHILL mode most of the time in the hope of extending the life of my tires to at least 30K miles and hopefully 40K (12,832 so far -- second rotation coming up in 700 miles (the first was a little late)). However, I do switch to STANDARD when driving in unfamiliar semi-congested places and sometimes even on highway trips when I think that having the option of more acceleration available could render a material improvement to safety. I also once in a while switch to STANDARD just to experience the exhilaration of all that power under control -- I did it just a couple of days ago for a short drive in light to moderate traffic and was afterwards smiling all afternoon. So. Much. Fun. But as I said: life of tire thread is a real priority for me, so even more power isn't an option -- given that constraint.

    This is a good advert for why VED should take into account the top speed and acceleration time of a car based on manufacturers' published data. So a car that can do 150mph and 0-60 in 5 sec pays 10 x more VED than a car that can do 100mph and 0-60 in 10 sec.

    • @peterwilliamson1825
      @peterwilliamson1825 3 месяца назад

      The problem with this 'suggestion' is how would you define who pays what. The majority of all new cars accelerate from 0 - 60 between 7 and 10 seconds and can do at least 100 to 120 mph.
      With your suggestion , you'd have two slightly different versions of the same car liable from different levels of VED because one car might be a few kg heavier, thus slower and it falls into a different VED bracket.
      Besides, no one drives from 0 - 60 as fast as possible all the time. Thus discouraged people from owning cars that can accelerate fast isn't going to be a significant benefit to anyone. All it would do is increase administration costs for the government.
      The difference between a tax and a duty is that a duty is used to influence behaviour.
      For example, a strong alcoholic drink such as whiskey is liable for a higher rate of duty than beer to discourage people from drinking high levels of alcohol.
      Tobacco is another example of very high levels of duty, again to protect public health.
      Previously, Vehicle Excise Duty has been used to encourage people to buy cars that have cleaner exhaust emissions, although it seems we are taking a backwards step next year.

    • @PedalPowerPanther
      @PedalPowerPanther 3 месяца назад

      Why? VED is emissions based, EVs produce barely any. So why should an EV that has twice the acceleration pay more than a clunky diesel? It should pay significantly less.

    • @peterwilliamson1825
      @peterwilliamson1825 3 месяца назад

      @@PedalPowerPanther I totally agree. There are plenty of diesel cars that pay either zero VED or just £20 - £30 VED.
      They should go after these cars because they were far from clean.

      @@maxflight777 I suppose in fairness it depends on where and how you drive. I have a daily runabout which I changed five months ago to an MG3 HYBRID, which apparently has a 0-60 time of 8.1 secs. When I was 'much' younger that would have been considered quick in hot hatch territory. At the time in the mid eighties a Ford Escort XR3i was considered a bit of a bench mark car completing the run in 8.6 secs!!
      My other car is a Genesis Electrified G80, which is a big (over 5 metres long) luxury EV saloon. Like its competitors its quoted time is (Genesis quoted) I think 4.7 secs, and in independent road tests 4.1 secs. This would put this car up against Ferraris from the 80s. Obviously as time moves on technology improves, and EV's by their very nature almost make a mockery of acceleration when compared to ICE cars.
      The point is, in the bit over two years I've owned the Genesis (which replaced a Maserati Ghibli and many Jaguars over the preceeding decades), I have never 'floored it' and on the cone or two occasions I put my foot down a fair bit, the acceleration just made me feel a little physically ill with an almost head spinning effect. Now before I get categorised as an old man (I'm 59!), living in a London suburb, where I would travel maybe into Central London (currently no congestion charge for EV's) or on any of the motorways, you are so limited by utter weight of traffic, or the speed camera enforced speed limits of 20 mph in all central London, and increasingly in the suburbs, or the variable speed limit cameras of motorways, where even if the variable speed signs aren't switched on, they will still catch you if you go much above 70.
      So for me paying extra for that performance would be a waste. I would rather put the money to FSD if they could get it to work properly on UK roads.
      I have limited autonomy on both my cars, and for me that makes a real difference.

    If this fools the insurance company, can we petition Elon to make us pay for Standard acceleration too? That would reduce the headline horsepower and therefore the insurance premium and if the insurance company does not take retrofitted Sport mode HP into account, it would also not notice Standard mode HP? I could live with Chill mode if it saved me money on insurance premium. One caution: my insurance (Admiral) uses a phone app to 'assess risk' (I wonder if it reliably discriminates between me driving the insured car or riding as a passenger in another car?), so if I bought Acceleration Boost and actually used it Admiral might assess my risk higher and increase the premium more next year. But this is another reason why I want Tesla insurance: they can take account of all the data and not have to make assumptions and no doubt set risk premium on the worst case.

    • @justgetatesla

    Love your work. But scratching my head a bit over this one. Bear with me ...
    Herzberg came up with his "Two-Factor Theory" of motivation which, simply put, says that if you give someone a big increase in pay, they'll be motivated to work hard, but only for a short period. They get used to the cash and it no longer motivates. You can apply this to, for example, a lottery win. To begin with, it's "I've won a million!". After a while, it becomes "Well, it's fine but it's only a million, and it's not really that much." I used to compete in rallying and was always looking for better performance. You fit a "Stage 2" kit (this was a long time ago) and WOW - what a difference. After a wee while, you're used to it and looking for a Stage 3 upgrade. My first time in an EV, I hit the loud pedal and had the same "WOW". Now? It's just normal.
    Nonetheless, I'm very pleased for you and hope you'll continue to enjoy the "WOW" for years to come.

    I find it intriguing how people have been so successfully conditioned to think / believe that significantly heavier vehicles, with hundreds of kgs of additional resources / materials strapped to them, manufactured in a distant land, primarily with energy from vast amounts of coal, shipped thousands of miles with oil, and which can then accelerate a vehicle / family to 60mph in

    • @justgetatesla
      @justgetatesla  3 месяца назад +1

      1. Not significantly heavier - compare with similarly sized fuel car. 2. Additional resources/ materials? Most moving parts removed vs fuel car, plus no fuel which needs drilling and shipping and refining with vast amounts of electricity then to be transported and pumped into your tank for 40% to be lost as heat. 3. loads of cars are built globally whatever the drivetrain. It’s all FUD love
      Your point about daft 0-60 times is valid. Then again you’re not complaining about Audi RS6 or BMW M5 so thats FUD as well

    • @BROOMEngineeringTMIET
      @BROOMEngineeringTMIET 3 месяца назад

      @@justgetatesla personally, I would call around 20% significantly heavier.
      The current UK standard driving licence now allows for 4250kg if 'alternative fuel', up from 3500kg. The new Ford e-Transit is now rated at 4.25 tonnes. That is to give similar payloads as ICE, and satisfactory ranges. That is additional weight and resources being added to vehicles, which then must be moved everywhere with that vehicle.
      I find FUD is a term throw around by those who have been successfully mislead by corrupt governments / propaganda / media, towards those who have actually spent time looking into things in more detail.
      I believe EV's do have a place in some scenarios, but much of what is currently happening, and things you advocate, is actually madness.
