I remember the many times I read Desiderata and it gave me peace and calmness in a turbulent difficult time of my life, I recommend that others read it and quietly learn from Max Ehrmann his gentle wisdom.I have just found it after many years.
Thank you for sharing this superb work. I remember reading it a few decades ago then stumbled across it again via the band The Fabulous Pop Tarts and their song Desiderata, which led me to Leonard Nimoy reading it and also to your more in-depth look into it.
Sir, thanks for reading this message of immense value to our world , be it considered prose or poetry it is a work of literary worth that stands out unique among the writings of centuries, I spite of the theories about its origin, one needs to focus on the fact that such utterances have been born from a mind and soul that experienced a lifetime of feelings and emotions ,peaceful and turbulent ,that he must have churned nights upon nights , years upon years to achieve this CREAM that rose to the surface for us to ponder upon, enjoy and practice. I have had the honor to have my choral speaking class recite the Desiderata, to an audience of parents and educators, who (, some had heard it for the first time,)were passionate about the inspiration they received from the wise messages within the poem.
I have it on my wall also. I read it also just to refresh myself and make sure that I am on the right track while I navigate thru this journey of life.
Yes thank you Sir... Desiiderata❤️i've been keeping this poem in my heart... Relevant as always...i never get tired of reading this poem.🌈 After my reading of it today, i get the affirmation once again...indeed the world is beautiful... And thus, Life is beautiful🌷🎶💃
This poem was a lasting gift to a healing group of friends, given individually to us all in a group of healers by a dear friend and group leader/ teacher! I kept it and just needed to hear it again. Thank you for sharing it 😊
Amazing...Thank you for sharing....We live in an awsome world when one person's peaceful thoughts can vibrate through , the noise of human activity and the endless mist of time. Peace be with you all
Actually Reverend Frederick Kates, included "Desiderata" in a compilation of devotional materials for his congregation. The compilation included the church's foundation date, "Old Saint Paul's Church, Baltimore AD 1692," therefore most of the people think that 1692 is the date of the composition of this poem, which is not correct. The actual date of composition is 1920 and it was copyrighted by the poet in 1927. literature4life.com/desiderata-a-didactic-poem-by-max-ehrmann/
Millenia means a thousand years. Even if you were correct in thinking the 1692 date was the date of its publication you'd still be incorrect because it's not over a thousand years old. As L&L said, it was copyrighted in 1927 so it's not even a century old although it's drawing closer.

Not true!!! The poem date back over a millenia.

Wasn't this really written by a shirt manufacturer?
No.
@@joganmore I think whoever told me that one did this was pulling my leg. Thanks for the correction.
