Max Ehrmann was an American attorney and poet who often wrote on spiritual themes. During his life, he contributed great thoughts to our literary lexicons, blending the magic of words and wisdom with his worthy observations.
Desiderata, which means “things that are desired,” was written by Max Ehrmann “because it counsels those virtues I felt most in need of.”

RedFrost Motivation You could do this amazing poem by ANTUN GUSTAV MATOŠ 1873-1914. Poet, essayist, and author of short stories, he is perhaps the most significant name in Croatian literature at the threshold of the 20th century, and a most influential author of modern Croatian writing. Please check this:
      SHADOW
I love the mournful shadow, the dozing light: light which dreams of the night. I love the shadow, twin sister of the warm sun and of the cold moon. I love the shadow, my eternal adopted sister and companion which slumbers beside me, walks near me, my dark picture and my caricature. Yes, I love the shadow, yellow, grey, black; the shadow, sad and silent as death.
All, all is shadow. The world is a shadow. And the sun is a shadow of a mystical sun. And life is the shadow of a mystical life. The shadow is a cradle. The shadow is a grave. Before my existence I was but a shadow. And, when I cease to be, I shall be a shadow. I am the shadow of that which I was and of that which I shall be: a shadow between two eternities of haze. All is shadow.
The shadow is larger than light, as it is greater at evening than the fields of my grandfather. Wheat and grain spring up in the shadow and die in shadow. Life arises from shadow, wanders in the shadow, and disappears into the shadow.
      We are shadows.
O, Shadow, child of the day and the night! Shadowy morning and purple evening! Shadow, child of darkness and light, pale daughter of enigma, opening melancholy silent weary eyes, and through them life peers wonderingly into mysterious death! Last night, my love, you were trembling against my breast with the moist eyes of affection and happiness. I named you beauty, happiness, and woman, but there remained a handful of ashes in place of honey. Love, you also are a shadow.
I am a shadow, and I love the quiet still shadows of the affliction which awaits the new Titans and the new twilights of the gods.
The shade told me, the shade which grew larger and larger behind the old oak beneath the moonlight whilst awaiting the dew and the dark song of the nightingale under the shrubbery of the hawthorne and brier rose, such shady, foggy and grey fables. The shade was whispering to me this morning as well, as it walked under the fleecy cloud across the field of stubble, caressing the larks' and the quails' nests, and kissing the quivering tops of the field flowers.
Shadow, thou soft pillow of light: Shadow, thou black bed of life! And when once the planets extinguish, you will remain the empress of life.
I love you, Shadow, pure silent goddess: lift up your soft mantle of fog streaked with golden secrets, and cover my weary eyes, to close them to embrace my shadow.

Sean Ford System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities.....
1, Show all living creatures; all the love and kindness as much as you can.
2, Only try to be honest with yourself. If you try to be honest with others, you will get into big trouble soon or later.
3, Aim only one target at a time; otherwise you are chasing two rabbits and you will miss both. So, the reason behind it. Have one powerful reason and never ever give up the one you want the most.
4, Don't try to be good person only but be the powerful person. We will grow to be the one or we will die. There is no other choice.
5, Always learn and look for to improve something your life.
6, You are not alone. Love and faith the high power reduces unnecessary stress in life. But never completely rely on it.
7, Success and happiness are the byproducts of our usefulness. So, always increase the possibility of success.
8, Life is not going to be easy. Because of our unnecessary things. Eliminate all the unnecessary things as much as you can by organising yourself well with the environments.
9, Never believe anything without the proper evidences.
10, Always try to give more than you take.
Because it is dignity/ character of the divinity within you.
🌎 As long as people continue to see themselves as separate from everything else, they lend themselves to being completely enslaved. Success depends on how well we relate to everything around us. Joy comes from that bliss of connectedness. I believe that unarmed truth and love will have the final word in reality. To love; you should have good heart. I am a good person until I see a person better than my standard of goodness. Being good is the progress towards a worthy cause. Love is God. Whoever lives in love, lives forever. How selfish it is to try to keep something forever? Love is all about nourishing, nurturing, sharing and expanding the love within you for all. The principle to which we adhere to is that we have kindness of love at heart for the whole of mankind. As long as there is the unnecessary differences within us; we can not live peacefully so we have to eliminate all the unnecessary differences among us so we can love all. People abilities may vary but not there true love. If we love a person/ God for a reason then we love the reason but not the person. No reason is the reason to love the person because true love never fails. So do not compare or measure the true love as first or the last but love all truly. If you love people truly then you can understand people. If you don't love then you don't understand people at all.
People are controlled by system why?
The Cyclical Consumption is the current economy all over the World. It is making the scarcity problems of the earth finite resources to deteriorate day by day. Current Monetary System is legalised theft. Real money is Gold and Silver. Scarcity gives the money more value. Real money won't lose it's value. When Governments stay away from Gold & Silver then very easy to transfer the wealth / resources to upper class the Rich (Corporatocracy) Elite. When the Governments are printing out more new fiat currency with reserve banks, our old currency is losing its purchasing power everyday. They are printing millions of currency everyday. All governments and laws are existing right now to transfer wealth to upper class the rich elite. The USA Government & other Governments are in many countries, bailed the investment banks & financial institutions in 2008 against the majority of the people. There is no democracy in any countries. Because of the Money System based on profits motive only above all else even humans lives and well-being. So, we do not have freedom to protect our values with the money so on. The violence, bankruptcy & all the negativities are build into the Monetary System of our society. All are owned (including ourselves) by Reserve Bank. Which is private cartel the corporation. So, in legal system, we are legally considered as chattel the properties. They make money in the capital markets with our birth certificates. They do not consider us as Humans. That's the truth. We are at the invisible war with the Elites (Corporatocracies). We have to fight for our Freedom. Resource Based Economy is the Solution. We have to declare the earth resources as the heritage of all the people of this world. So everyone has access to it. Please have your research about zeitgeist movement then you know the truth more.
Truth About Health/Drugs Industry Because Of It Your Life At High Risk The drug industry is a 1/2 trillion dollars a year worldwide conglomerate. Almost 300 billions dollars just in North America. That is really big business. What would happen if everyone were well? There is no money in health. You see, good health makes a lot of sense but it doesn't make a lot of dollars. Because everything they do is toxic. Every drug they use, prescription drugs, all drugs are liver toxic, bar none. If you've had amalgam fillings put in your mouth by dentists. It is highly toxic. There's cancer because most of the chemos are themselves carcinogens. To view the tumor as the cancer and we know the tumor is not the cancer. The cancer industry is 200 billions dollars a year. The more work they get, the more profit there is. You have to dismantle; If the truth ever came out about what we would need to do. 30% of people of females in America are at risk of getting, will get cancer of the breast. The ones that are already dead have been grossly mistreated by the medical profession and by the government that supposedly is supposed to encourage free research and development of all possibilities. Why would medical doctors who studied medicine and practice medicine and are heavily funded by pharmaceutical companies why would they go and look into vitamins? That they never had the answer orthomolecular. And as more and more of our population start taking their health into their own hands, there's going to be even more and more of changes. It can't go on the way it is. The system is failing apart. We must make nutrition the primary prevention strategy for the population. You are what you eat. You are everything that you have ever done to yourself. The choices you make directly affect the outcome of your life. - (Food Matters Documentary in Netflix)
😊 Well, I truly love God. I am not religious but very spiritual person. So, I believe 1) Religion is the beliefs in someone experiences But spirituality is having my own experiences. The mainstream religions people promote religious ideology by giving guidelines and guide but In my spiritual life; I do not want anyone or anything between God and me to restrict my freedom to worship God. 2) We do not need any authorities to do good work. The god work is the good work always. In contrast; organised mainstream religions are claiming that they have the authorities to do God works as leaders so on. 3) God is not capable of doing wrong thing, change the past for us and create anything out of nothing for us. Nothing means not anything. So, even God is limited. The mainstream religious people believe that God is unlimited. 4) God wants us to take responsibilities for our righteousness life but not for all the consequences of our actions because they are continued to exist among us. So, How can god punish us for all our consequences? The mainstream religious people believe we are full of sins because of all our actions. 5) Freewill is an illusion. People always choose the perceived path of greatest pleasure. So, we do not have choices all the time. In contrast teachings of the mainstream religions are promoting people to do god's will always because we all have choices of freewill always. 6) We can not separate everything into groups. So, everything for good and evil and there's no success and failure for everything. If everything is real then real things can not be threatened. Once you come to understand that God/The Holy Spirit is in each of us, You will no longer need a Book to tell you how to live. Then why we need religious scriptures? The Virtue is the expression of the basic goodness in our actions. The Basic goodness is the fundamental worthiness of every individuals. We are worthy to God always in everything. 7) Beliefs in a cruel God makes a cruel man. No matter what; every living creatures has the right to live and What makes their life cheap? Everything depends on everything. Nothing too big or too small in value. We can not love and hate at the same time; Being a vegetarian means love without cruelty happily. The mainstream religious people are killing people and sacrificing animals in the name of God. They promote God's cruel punishments. The Punishment is endless for Sinners/Devil according to religious scriptures. But God is love always. Overcome hate with love. If all religions for peace, unity? No way. Because they are not for peace. 8) Well, The God gave us everything to go from moment to moment in our lives as we do our part and pray only to thank god then the Love is in progress. The Love is always for everyone. We are always worthy of the God's love. Our greatest fear is; not to be loved by anyone but we are all loved by someone. When we eliminate all our unnecessary differences among us then true peaceful life is possible with the true love. If we can't find the peace within ourselves then we will never find it anywhere else. 9) This is the Fight for independence and freedom of humanity to worship God freely without religious guide and guidelines to restrict us. Unnecessarily, We do not want third party controls over us in anything ; especially in spirituality. 10) Revive Survive Thrive. Sincerely, The Real Peacemaker against religious oppression.

Ting ting Shiny 🏳️ Don’t trust anything fully 100%. If you do then your conscience won’t work fully. No one knows anything completely. One question leads to another then that question leads to another question so forth. Agnostic made the decision that we can’t know or we can know God, Atheist made the decision there is no God, Theist made the decision there is God, all are wrong. I am who I am as I am in my birthday. Source of creation is God. All depends on each other. We cannot separate anything from everything. Love your love everyday as much as you can. Live very meaningful life of joys then automatically you will share your joys with others. What you expect to do to you for happiness then do to others so you feel usefulness and gratitude to all. Only time truly you are ok when you are okay with everything. It doesn’t mean everything will stay the same forever. Everything will change. Do meditation or have sensory isolation tank experiences. My Father In Law passed away about 15yrs ago. When he died, while I was cleaning his closet out, I found this poem in a plastic sleeve sitting purposely & perfectly on an empty shelf he must've cleaned off himself. I said why would he leave this. I started to read it. As I read tears fell from my eyes. It was then that I claimed this poem for myself as a lover of poetry myself. I refer to it as my 10 Comandments 🙏😥❤✌

The soul is: mind (how you think) will (how you act) and emotions (how you feel)
We are all individuals. How we live on this earth is our responsibility.
Our ability to respond in any situation. Whether good or bad, all to do with the soul. Back to the beginning, mind, will and emotions. Capish?

In 1991 a new friend gave me this poem in a small, velvety book. The moment I read it, I knew the new friend would one day be an old one. Over 30 yrs later I can no longer remember my life without him or Desiderata in it. These comments really bring home how we think we're the only ones having certain experiences when so much is universal. Seeing how much this poem has meant to so many other people hit me in a deep, physical way. To all the people just finding it, may it take up residence in your soul and feed you as well. XO

Visakh Praveen System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities.....

The line, "You have a right to be here" has always been one of the most touching parts of this poem to me. My whole life I've tried not to take up too much space or too much time or be in anyone's way, always terrified of being burdensome. In fact, one of my favorite lines from one of my other favorite poems is from The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock: "Do I dare Disturb the Universe?" It's a banner I've always felt has hung over my life, but the line from this poem, "You have a right to be here" is a quiet declaration to the contrary. Whenever I want my voice to be heard, or when I'm looking at something in the store and feel as though I have to move out of the way prematurely; I always think to myself, "you have a right to be here."

Well said. You’re not alone many in this world incl myself grew up feeling the same. But not all of us find the courage to speak our truth even quietly. For me I found I could start with saying I’m no less entitled or no less deserving than any other. That helped. Because the message I got from so many was the opposite. But once you realize it’s about them and we’re all victims of victims and a lot of suppressed pain in this world it changes our filter. Keep strong and taking up space. You’ll inspire others to speak their truth and do the same and part of a new better world. 🙏👏

Randy Kunath System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities.....

Randy Kunath 🏳️ Don’t trust anything fully 100%. Whenever you're feeling low, may you remind yourself of this poem. Tell it to yourself. Speak it with your heart. For it will remind you how life is, not how it should be. May it reveal to you once more how to live life the way it's meant to be. For this is the Desiderata, the 'things desired'.

My brother was shown this poem by my grandfather one summer while my brother lived with him and my grandmother in a small, Mexican fishing town - the Spanish version. This week, I’ve gone through adversity and learned a lot about myself. He showed it to me because of my situation. Tonight as I walk and look up at the sky while listening to this poem, it’s as if my grandfather relayed this poem to me thru time via my brother, and I felt a connection with him for the first time since he passed. Life is indeed beautiful.

Ren Ren System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities.....

Desiderata doesn’t just mean “things that are desired,” but specifically: “things that are desired but which one lacks.” The people commenting ‘practice what you preach’ are correct to pick up on that because the poem itself draws attention to how preachers are often failed practitioners in its title. This is an old man recounting all the ways in which he has failed in his life. When he counsels against comparing oneself to others, it is because he has compared himself to others; when he counsels against feigning affection, it is because he has feigned affection; when he counsels to strive for happiness, it is because he has failed to do so. This poem isn’t about telling people how to live their lives, it’s about turning one’s regrets into wisdom which can be passed down to the next generation. Reading it as simple, didactic self-help doesn’t do it justice.

Go placidly Amid the noise and haste
    And remember what peace
    There maybe in silence
As far as possible without surrender
Be on good terms with all persons
Speak your truth quietly and clearly
    And listen to others
even to the dull and the ignorant
    They too have their story
Avoid loiud and agressive persons they are vexations to the spirit
If you compare yourself with others
You may become vain or bitter
For always there will be greater
    And lesser person's than yourself
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans
Keep interested in your own carrier
    However humble
It is a real procession in the changing fortunes of time
Excercise caution in your business affairs
For the world is full of trickery
But let this not blind you
    To what virture there is
Many person's strive for high ideals
And everywhere life is full of heroism
    Be yourself
    Especially do not feign affection
    Neither be cynical about love
For in the face of all aridity
    And disenchantment
It is as perineal as the grass
Take kindly the counsel of the years
Gracefully surrendering the things of youth
    Nurture strength of spirit
To shield you in sudden misfortune
    but don't distress yourself
    With dark imaginings
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness
    Beyond a wholesome discipline
    Be gentle with yourself
You are a child of the universe
No less than the tress and the stars
You have a right to be here
And wether or not it is clear to you
No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should
Therefore be at peace with god
Whatever you conceive him to be
And whatever's your labours and aspirations
I'm the mousy confusions of life
    Keep peace in your soul
    With all it's sham
    Drudgery and broken dreams
It is still a beautiful world
    Be chearul
    Strive to be happy

Thank you for original post. I gave a copy to my cousin Eddie when he came to visit me 25 years ago. I typed it for him from the hanging on my wall because I had never seen him quite as moved m
by anything. He folded it neatly and placed it in his wallet. We lost him to cancer 8 years ago. His sister told me that he still had that in his wallet and had read it to the family one Thanksgiving Day. We loved each other dearly although work and time had separated us many miles apart by the time we were 30. I’ll soon be 60 and he had 7 years on me. Of course I think of him and smile every time I see or hear this poem. In memory of Eddie; the one who never married, decided to always look after his Mom, simply let every one wonder what his plans were, laughed and said he had no plans. Wherever Mom wants to go, he will drive. It’s the least he could do until something else happens. He did outlive her by a couple years or few. Now my memory is shot, so I can’t be exact. I’m sure they both preferred it that way, as I sure want my son to outlive me :)
OF COURSE I wish you many many years of long happy life ahead LoL! Had to edit that in, as your saving your copy is what touched my heart and the only part that reminded me of my cousin, how important this can be to we who understand it. Thank you again. Namaste’

Such a motivational poem with enlightening life lessons!
Envisioning an ideal world where everything is hunky-dory is like living in a fool's paradise. The real world is run-of-the-mill.. ugly.. harsh.. scheming..hypocritical..heartless.. gloomy and yet welcoming n marvellous. It is our own approach to living..of being our own selves in the face of adversities n our responses to them.. that make all the difference..

My dear teacher shared this with us years ago. Thanks to her once again. I got teary-eyed listening to it after a long time. These are some really wise words spoken so beautifully, in a form of a poem. I really needed this in my life right now. I will come back to this. Every time that I feel like I need to.

This poem has been my rock since I left my parents home at the age of 19 for further studies in canada - still here after 52 years - I have shared it with many family and friends .

1 of the most moving poems of all time. I heard it first in Spanish but is as beautiful in English. It brings me so much peace and to shed tears of joy. I want this poem to be read at my funeral!

I’ve memorized this poem from high school subject, I didn’t know the deep meaning of this until I became a mom of 2 this sums up my realizations and learnings in life.
“Don’t compare yourself with anybody else for always there will be greater and lesser person than you.”

I think this incredible voice is suited to a savage protector. A man that sheilds his family no matter what. What a voice sir. ❤

I had this poem tacked to cork board on my bedroom wall when I was a teen. It really meant something to me. Hearing it just now, having just turned 59, it struck me that back as a teen, this poem embodied the qualities of the person I wanted to be.

How did you do with "Desiderata" on your back burner all these years? I'll wager you've become a person worth knowing.

"You are a child of the universe, no less than the tress and stars. You have a right to be here." A timeless poem written so beautifully. This is truly one of the best pieces I have read.

This Video came out on my birthday in 2020, little did i know they would be words to live by. 2020 was my most challenging year, not only because of the pandemic but because of a spinal injury that made me feel absolutely worthless and depressed, that i felt it best to end it all. Now two years later, I'm happy things are 10x better than they were then, "strive to be happy, this is still a beautiful world" always stuck with me. Thank you for making this video, And sharing this poem.
