Full Poem:
Defeat, my Defeat, my solitude and my aloofness;
You are dearer to me than a thousand triumphs,
And sweeter to my heart than all world-glory.
Defeat, my Defeat, my self-knowledge and my defiance,
Through you I know that I am yet young and swift of foot
And not to be trapped by withering laurels.
And in you I have found aloneness
And the joy of being shunned and scorned.
Defeat, my Defeat, my shining sword and shield,
In your eyes I have read
That to be enthroned is to be enslaved,
And to be understood is to be leveled down,
And to be grasped is but to reach one’s fullness
And like a ripe fruit to fall and be consumed.
Defeat, my Defeat, my bold companion,
You shall hear my songs and my cries and my silences,
And none but you shall speak to me of the beating of wings,
And urging of seas,
And of mountains that burn in the night,
And you alone shall climb my steep and rocky soul.
Defeat, my Defeat, my deathless courage,
You and I shall laugh together with the storm,
And together we shall dig graves for all that die in us,
And we shall stand in the sun with a will,
And we shall be dangerous.
Victory is sweetest when you have known defeat.
Wow I lovd that Victory is sweetest when you have known defeat Big thank for sharing Yvonne million Cornwall England

That is the antithesis of what gibran is trying to say
victory is never remembered doesn't teach you anything other than rising your ego up a level and build a confidence without simplicity victory is shallow u wont get gibran not ur cup of tea
This has nothing to do with what he's saying.
“My soul is from elsewhere, I'm sure of that, and I intend to end up there.”

Indeed, doesn't seem to be on Earth
Your opponent is not necessarily your enemy, your opponent is like a friend that will show you your strengths and weaknesses. -Bruce Lee
Nice!
When you are defeated by life, these words pierce your heart like anything.
+This is true. And maybe you are partly meaning here, that it expands your view so that you can see what is happening through another lens of meaning.
Could somebody pls tell me what does " defeat, my defeat " mean? 🥺
I feel this way
@@nhessserrano3603”defeat, my defeat” I believe he is making it personal. Like how you would talk to your lover in a tender moment. “Lisa, my Lisa.”
What a poet. Incredible.
Let us all be dangerous.

Yes, let us stand in the sun, and let us be dangerous!
That always make me smile and smirk..in a all or nothing..joker way but also with that feeling of one more min in the ring of life
And let us stand peacefully resolute in the beauty of the rain.
very good ✋

"Defeat" is indeed the least likable word for people of social media age, yet it is one of the Most Powerful Poems I have ever heard today!

Defeat. The strongest foundation of life.
Well said

I can listen to gibran's poetry for my entire life without getting tired. He was indeed a man with great perspectives. He had an ability to express feelingz through word in a best way possible. His poetry is my comfort.❤️✨🖤
Definitely a perspective changer. Never thought of defeat to be a friend... a gem of a poem for sure.
bbababonbon..bonfire! Who fails more than the genius, the inventor, the expert? Perfection requires defeat.

I have to get more of this ,so tomorrow I'm getting "The Prophet " at my local book store, what a better way to support all beauties of this world, and make sure they always stay with us for our kids and new generations that will come after we're long gone.

It's an amazing read. Speaks to something deeper than the mind, deeper than logic and intellect. Enjoy, whenever you get it
I am speechless. What a poem ! What a recitation! It just shaken the root of me.
I am finding solace in listening to this somehow. To embrace my humbled circumstance and yet... feel ennobled by the stripped-down immediacy of my experience, the doggedness of my soul to endure the burning of its own flame, the pluripotency of unencumbered being.
This one and "how did you die?" I think are some of the most beautifully spoken words I've ever heard.
The Heretic is also a beautiful poem.

At 2:03 the voice modulation is phenomenal ❤️💫
"And none but you shall speak to me of the beating of wings"
This voice knows the art of pause, modulation, intensity, diction & articulation.
I donno how to thank him for writing this...this poem is a masterpiece that shall live by,inspiring many like it did to me..
I feel the savage ache of defeat acutely in these words. Thank God for those who go before us and sprinkle our paths with the flowers of wisdom they learned behind them...
Kahlil Gibran was the key figure in a Romantic movement that transformed Arabic literature in the first half of the twentieth century
What I love about him is that he not only is a great Arabic poet, but a great American poet at the same time. He somehow picked up on the faint echoes of Semitic poetics in American culture which echoed through the centuries through the King James Bible, Milton, and revived that strain, made it sing out strong in a shockingly modern and fresh way. A meeting of two worlds.

I have known this poem for nearly 2 years, and is still powerful everytime I listen to it. On days that I feel like fate has it out for me, and people are so cruel I listen to this. In my failures and misfortunes I listen to this. And when the shallow comforting of people seem to me like noise, I listen to this. Thank you sir for being here, for being the voice that can reach my freezing heart.
The voice of my ancestors are as eternal as the dna we carry forward from the mouths of their spoken word. Wisdom and character impregnated through the journey of a thousand thousand souls. The lights that guide the way forward and the warriors that stand behind us. Thank you so much dear uncle for all the beauty and inspiration you have gifted to the world, and for the pride we feel in our hearts when your words are read and understood...Blessings.

Hey Love,
It's from the book, the Prophet ..
Copy pasted..
"Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable."

Khalil Has Some Good Words Of Wisdom And Insight.
Thank you for sharing such a gem.
Gibran Khalil Gibran was monumental, not only in his native and gorgeous Lebanon, (a country I had the chance to discover eight years ago) but throughout the world.
Beautiful! I used to have all of his books in my library and read regularly. His accompanying artwork was great as well, inspired by the spirit. I always hoped (and I'm not alone on this) that he would never be forgotten, so thank you!
We learn the most from out “defeats” and It’s what we take away from it and how we pick our selves up and move on weathering the storm that matters
A billion likes! I truly envy the voice.
Tagore and gibran...the beat poet world has ever produced what an insight..Man
Writings of gibran shaped my mind and soul. Love and lots of heart for choosing one of his.
That voice is like a thunder, though the only damage it causes is wakin' us up to deep knowledge and profound poetry. For those who haven't enjoyed another masterpiece by Kahlil Gibran, I recommend the animation - The Prophet. It keeps you glued to the screen to the last word.
I am not afraid of being alone anymore.
These poems reach a whole new level with the regal voice of this man!
The beauty in truly accepting defeat
Gibran was, and still is an underrated writer. Beautiful poem...and what a voice!
his voice is amazing, it made the poem more meaningful.
One of the most gravitating poem I've ever heard intertwined in such a modulated voice. I can't help myself from subscribing for more.
I've have never read or heard this before. It may be about defeat and loneliness but its stoic, even hopeful. And beautifully read.
I've learned more from my failures than from any of my minor successes. In the end there are no winners. We all lose our lives whether we die rich or poor, alone or with many others.
Almost weeping whenever I hear this poetry!
Gibran has a way with words that even famous and lauded authors seldom achieve. I remember to this day where I was the first time I read the Prophet... when I read of loving apart and how the oak and cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.. This poem evokes the same chills of awakening to a new perspective I had then. Thank you for this video.
I can feel this voice reverberating deep in my chest.
I have never been given more my defeat then anything else. Will and courage, this is a powerful thing.
For me as someone who just gave up applying for a PhD, because I felt I couldn't make it, it was very relatable
I cry from my soul when this is read to me. Moving, is an understatement.
I love listening to his poetry and voice !
Where there is defeat there was a battle. The reader of this poem knows how to impact with the intonation of his voice.
Developing one’s character through your video’s is really fulfulling! Thank you sir.
