I enjoyed this video... as always with yours. You're the only flyer I know that does a touch and go with an airliner. That was neat to watch it Autoland. Also the outside view of the wing and the flaps at the end. PMDG are topnotch programmers.
NIce Job !! My 737 plane blanks the screens strangely sometimes when I land, or when I turn on the APU and turn on the generators. It's like a blackout on the aircraft's screens makes it unpilotable. Do you know how I can solve this? Game on Xbox Series X
The 700 and 800 are essentially the same aircraft - just different weights and sizes. The 600 is much cheaper, but you don't get the different versions (cargo, business).
The 737 doesn't really have a CDI in the same way that an HSI would. The primary flight display and navigation display have multiple modes - you can select them with the knobs and switches above.
Whenever I try engaging the second auto pilot it doesn’t work, it’s always around 2500 to 3000 feet when I engage it and approach mode is already engaged. I’m also in the range of the localizer.
for an autopilot landing on a ILS is it better to enable VORLOC rather than pressing the APP button in order for the aircraft to capture the glide slope localizer then once the aircraft intercept the localizer then only press the APP button?
Another good video just a strange question has anyone got problems with the nose steering on the ground after landing the plane steers heavly to the right every time after landing?
Hi Jonathan. Great video once again. So you basically just push the autopilot disconnect button as soon as you have touched down and apply rev. Thrust and brakes during autoland?
I pulled the throttles as soon as there was weight on wheels. There are automatic brake systems on the 737 too - I didn't use them in this example (there's only so much you want to show somebody in one go) :)
Not to sound picky but there a few things that can be improved for casual manual landings and autoland. Regarding your second landing 120knot approach speed is tad too low. Bug it to 140knots for a flap 40 and 145knots for a flap 30 landing at least even for an autoland unless you're landing below 56tonnes gross weight or it was a 737-700 which doesn't seem to be case from the video im seeing here. The final flare pitch on the autoland is wrong purely due to the lack of speed and it just promotes tail strike. The aircraft should never be pitched greater than 5degree for touchdown. For manual landing just before 1000feet start trimming your speed to between 140-150knots and gradually keep aircraft pitch within 1-2 degree with a descent rate of v/s -600fpm to -800fpm. At 20feet cut the throttle and pull the nose to a 2.5 to 3 degree pitch for a safe firm landing you can also pull the nose up more gently if you want a smoother landing but not more than 5 degrees. Aircraft weight can be a major issue when it comes to landing so its best to use the fmc>fs actions>payload and make sure the aircraft weights below 63tonnes for an easier landing. Heavier than 63tonnes you're looking at an approach speed higher than 150knots. At max landing weight the 737-800 approach speed can be at 156knots flaps 30 and this coupled with stablized approach criteria brings along additional difficulties for newcomers when it comes to the final 50feet to touchdown.
It was titled beginners guide for a reason :) It's not a full guide to limits, procedures, and so on - just a functional guide to get people started. The big problem with covering everything you've highlighted (which again, isn't exhaustive, because there's also the FMC data, the autobrakes, the wind, outside air temp, etc, etc) is the video ends up being two hours long, and doesn't teach beginners anything before they lose interest.
Love your functional vids Jonathon. So comprehensible. Great knowing SOPs but “everything comes in good time”. Do you have any vids on (or even good reference suggestion for) your video creation/editing? I’d love to memorialise my progress in flight sim. Thanks
I don't edit! What you see is always a direct transcript of me sitting down, hitting the record button, and doing one take - every time. I use OBS to record, because it was free, and it's capable of doing far more than I will ever use it for :)
these PMDG planes are such a pleasure to fly. thank you for teaching me! I bought the 737 600 (whatever one is 34 dollars right now) and i have been enjoying the hell out of it. Do you think its worth it to buy the 7 and the 8 as well, or do they more or less feel like the same plane?
They are bigger and heavier versions of the same plane. The 700 and 800 have a cargo and business version - which adds extra functionality - but the actual aircraft flies (procedurally) the same way.
I did :) To be honest, I was just showing the functional side of operating things in the cockpit. If I did a full run-down of landing going through the FMC, auto brakes, flap speeds, etc, etc, it would take 2 hours and lose most people's interest. A little at a time :)

Sir, Thanks for all the instructional videos on the various aircraft for MSFS. Your tutorials are the best available. Cheers!!
Glad you like them!
Great video! Thanks for sharing knowledge with us rookies.

Thank you once again for all these tutorials, very well received 👍🏻
another great video! thanks a mill for this comparison. autoland is impressive, but I myself also like to do a manual landing
awesome video
Thanks!

Definitely prefer the “my aircraft” type of landing. Great video
Same here!
The video's great! Good job!
Thanks!
Even though the papi lights have me at the right altitude I still get “too low terrain” and see “pull up” in red ?
Very good. I'm still trying to decide which of the three released 737s to get - I think the 700 is most likely.
The 700 and 800 are essentially the same aircraft - just different weights and sizes. The 600 is much cheaper, but you don't get the different versions (cargo, business).
Did you arm spoilers?
I do prefer doing by hand even the navigation to final!😂
Thanks for the video! How do you enable the course deviation indicator? :)

@@jonbeckett alright, thank you for answering! :)

Did you tune both NAV radios in to the ILS ? And set both courses ? And have both flight directors on ?

Hi. Thanks for a great video. What is the mapping tool/program that you used in this video? Regards
LittleNavMap.
Do I really need to tune in the nav freq? I thought it would be enough to set the appr ils like in the a320.
Another good video just a strange question has anyone got problems with the nose steering on the ground after landing the plane steers heavly to the right every time after landing?
That must be a control configuration issue you have?

You did use the airbus throttle quadrant for that didn’t you?? Cuz I have one and I want to buy this
Yes. I have a video about how to configure it :)

@@jonbeckett Wow thanks. I tried once but had issues and gave up. Must be my spec/settings. Will give it another go. Thanks again 👍🏿
Thank you sir 🙏
Most welcome
For auto land you need flare more to be active, does that happen by itself or do you have to set it up to activate?
I wasn't aware that any GA aircraft have auto-land.
