Thank you for this! I love to fly airliners and always just made the routes and such on the default MSFS World Map screen. Learning how to use the FMC, teaching us how to use Little NAVMAP, and actually dialing things in really adds to the immersion of the Sim. Now I have been using this guide to do a Rough FMC flight plan on the MSFS default aircraft! Thank you again so much for enrichening everyone's MSFS experience!
@@jonbeckett my friend I have a question instead of using simbrief because I’m new to the fmc can I just go to departures and arrivals and pick the route from there?

Wow! What a great tutorial Jonathan! You make it much easier to do by explaining everything in simple terms. THANK YOU! Definitely going to step-by-step mine in now.
As others have stated, super helpful. I've been leery of commercial jets for awhile but your videos and instruction broke that barrier for me. Between the 737, the 146 and future craft I'll definitely be looking to your channel for helpful tips. The way you explain things along with the 'why' really do it for me rather than someone just blazing thru a chklist.
Jonathan Beckett, I am obsessed with your videos, so informative! I have been purchasing kit to build a few cockpits, a Cirrus SR22 and a Boeing 737 one, and your guides are teaching me how to fly!
What I very much appreciate of you is that with everything you do, unlike other tutorials, you explain the logic/reasoning behind it, which really helps me understand what I will be doing.
Hi Jonathan, just dropping line to say I really appreciate your guides and effort you have put into making them. I have been following your 146, MadDog and now the 737 guides and find them invaluable as it can be daunting to work through the PDF manuals/procedures from scratch but your guides are great for watching and following as I Implement them into my own Aircraft setups. Keep up the good work buddy
Please continue to help us noobs. I appreciate it. Now I can almost fly the 737. I always have problems attaining correct speed with AT during my climb and cruise
Thanks for your tutorials, they are easy to understand the way you explain them. To the point without any unnecessary information. I have just bought a hardware MDU/FMC for the B737 and it adds much more to the flight. What I haven’t been able to find is where on, for example, the simbrief OFP I can find the info that the FMC needs, a video about that would be very useful for many serious flight simmers. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
Yep - I'll do a video on simbrief integration soon - a few people have asked about it. It's worth pointing out before I do it - the integration doesn't load everything about a flight plan - you still have to go and review/revise it afterwards.
@@jonbeckett I have seen that and I think many serious flightsimmers would benefit from that. A clear guide about all the info you need to feed (and why) into the FMC at what stage of the flight and how you can use it. That video can also be used to make a good FMC “checklist”. Just my thoughts..
Thank you sir for this fantastic videos! You covered several things in this video that were assumed in other videos, for example connecting the ground power cart before enabling the ground power switch.
Thank you for this. I am also new into flight simulator and am really excited to get a more realistic experiance. This was the first video that I have seen of yours, and I’m really happy it just popped into my feed. I am now a subscriber 🎉
Thank you this is the best tutorial for the 737-700 FMC that I have seen. Your pace was perfect, I could understand every word. Also explaining the reason for a lot of things was very helpful. A lot of people seem to use Sim Brief for the planning side of things is it something that you would recommend. I really hope you post more tutorials on the 737.
I've only had like a half hour with this thing and this video because I'm actually busy in simulator training for the real thing. And I find this thing dizzying. Not because I don't get it. But because I'm actually surprised how accurately it all seems to work so far. IRL we have the ability to auto load the route and the takeoff performance data is more complicated than what you see here. But as far as routes, menus, holding, it's all spot on. What will really break my head is if you can do things like abeam points, build points a distance from a fix along your route, or place points via place bearing distance. Those are things that are technically not necessary for a sim, but would be incredible if they're there. Now what we really need are the weather radar and RNAV(RNP) approaches.
Just purchased this aircraft yesterday. Have a lot to learn after only flying the fenix a320 as my airliner over the past months. The PMDG 837 does seem like a great aircraft though. Got the -800 to use with a fedex livery out of KMEM
Little Nav Map has a fuel report (the tab next to flight plan tab). If you load the Aircraft Performance file for the 737 the calculation should be fine. I use the LNM fuel report function a lot for the CRJ and never had any problems.
Great video! First I've come across which explains how the FMC works rather than just give a rapid play-by-play of what buttons get pushed in what order. Very comprehensive tutorial. Do you have one like it to walk us beginners through how to work the autopilot?

Great tutorial. I'm new to MSFS after using FSX and P3D for longer than I care to admit. This might be a silly question but how do you zoom in on the FMC CDU to be able to program it effectively? I notice you were able to simply zoom in over the top of the FMC which is a lot easier than trying to program it with in the virtual cockpit view.
There are a number of CTRL+num keyboard combinations that move to default views around the aircraft - setup by PMDG - one of them is over the FMC. If you download my guide from ko-fi.com/jonbeckett/shop it has the various keys to press detailed in it :)
I have several flights in the 737 recorded on the channel - flying from A to B - where you will see me operating the various systems and explaining along the way. I don't tend to use VNAV, because it would leave me with very little to do :)

Go into the FMC, MENU, PMDG, LOAD STATE and choose the TAKE-OFF state - wait a few minutes, and see if everything has come on. It's a quick way of knowing if there's something wrong in the sim (maybe an add-on or something that's causing it)

Would you not usually wait until t/d to program the approach?
Could you make a video showing how to land using an ILS runway?
I've just done it - check my channel - the live stream into Nagasaki tries out auto-land.
Will this still work when u dont have...up to date Airac Cycles cuz im guessing alot of sids and stars will be missing and your flightplan wont match up correct?
i only have access to cycle 25 March 21 - 21 April 21 that was free... I dont want to spend money just yet until i im confident i can fly the airliner and understand it all as the 737 will be my 1st one...
I have the stock scenery. Every time ASOBO update the sim, they update the Airac.
Similar to the apollo lunar lander or a old HP calculator.
Hey Jonathan Thank you for the tutorial. Can I ask a question? What app you using in navigating the map?
It's "LittleNavMap" - it's free.
