- Life by You was just announced this Monday, and I am so excited to see yet another life simulation game in development. This video is a survey of the many life sims that are not yet released that could potential rival the Sims franchise. Have you heard of all of these games? Which are you most excited for?

I'm super glad there's _finally_ competition for the Sims. They've been getting away with being really the only life-sim game for far too long, and it kinda shows. The fact they've been doing a Rockstar and relying on content packs rather than actually developing a full replacement for the game for the past seven years shows they've been entirely relying on the fact their userbase hasn't really had anywhere else to go. It's made them lazy. It does make me think why on earth nobody else has made a proper decent attempt at making a Sims competitor until now. Usually the moment anyone creates _anything_ unique it gets copied or others jump on and start creating competing products - even when the original unique idea wasn't nearly as popular as the Sims has been.
I wonder if people just haven't realised how ready we were to quit the Sims for something better and if that's why nobody has tried for so long, or if it's just that life simulation is more associated to girls so they were not really interested, despite the huge success of the Sims..
Hmm I wonder 🤔 To be fair, GTA V has been around since 2013 and GTA VI has only just been announced. I know it's not a one-to-one, but thinking of another sort of RP simulation style game that has primarily men as its audience.
But yes you're right- Sims has been in dire need of competition for a while!!
I was mostly talking about the fact that the Sims has been the only game in this genre for a while, but for people who like pew pew games, there are so many options :)
Not true about being associated with girls. Boys built houses and simply played for different reasons. I watched a technical game mechanics video by a notable male player who had groups of male friends, like myself, playing. I'm a woman by the way.

If anyone could shut EA, its definitely Life by you . Paradox did a marvellous job on cities skylines, i’m confident with them, not to mention Rod Hunble is behind it🎉

Paradox has done some amazing games. I was skeptical about it being a shallow sim clone until I saw thier name attached to this game. I could see thier talent for randomly generated story telling being a potentially huge boon if they brought it to a life sim. However for people who get upset over DLCthis will not be the game for them. Don't know of a paradox game without atleast one DLC it's kinda thier business model.

the character creation in Paralives looks so customizable! at least for body types and stuff, hopefully for clothes too 😍

@@kylieee7402 As of yet. The game is in very early alpha. Has been for quite some time and will be for a long time still.
paralives just looks so cozy, it’s unlike most realistic simulation games and it has a very personal feel to it. while life by you looks great, i actually have more trust in paralives since they constantly respond to feedback. they are also including a lot of things in base game and obviously sims 4 copied some of the features we’ve been requesting for years so i feel it’s just as equal a competitor as life by you.
I do not know how long they have been working on this game .Can not find out when it will be ready to come out. think read some were it would cost like $40 to buy it .
@@patriciabanfield1483 it’s a few years now! The team has been growing steadily and while we don’t have a solid date to expect the games release, progress is made and shown often! Remember to check the roadmap to see it!

Hey, the sims 4 is older that life by you. Actualy it is from 2014 september month. They can't copy anything becuse they are the older game here. And wrong info is't going any where. 😮
@@solofargeklat4992 they can actually. because when the sims 4 released it wasn’t a full game and there were many things they left out. after paralives promised some of those missing features in their game, said features miraculously appears in ts4. kinda like curved walls. anyway even if they didn’t do that, they could still copy even as an older game as it still receives updates. hope that helps!
Paralives is my fav! I love the cartoony, low-poly art style. It looks so cozy and absolutely the type of life sim I’d gravitate towards. The small team also assures me that it will be made with love 💗

I'm personally starting to believe that Alterlife is one of the scammy ones. I have followed it since the first announcement and there are never any updates or anything to let people know that they are still working on it. I prefer games like Paralives that share multiple updates showing what they are working on. Its sad to me because from the trailer I am really looking forward to Alterlife.

its not really the game itself that im thinking will nuke the franchise. .
im thinking more so along the lines of the fans being so burned by ea that they go to the newer more mod friendly alternatives (paralives & steam workshop, easy mod development tools with life by you, etc.)
I don’t think so because they won’t be competing for sims 4s 33 million players. They’re going after the 6-7 million players who played sims 2 and sims 3. Of which a lot of them are happy with Sims 4. The big success of sims came with targeting 16-24 year old girls which make up over 60 percent of the playerbase themselves. The only way to steal those players from EA is to give them the pastel pop and the cottage living and basically everything you don’t like about sims 4. A game made by a company under investigation for mysoginy and mass sexual harrassment of female staff isn’t going to pull in the young women that make up over half of the sims playerbase as well. Personally as a woman I could never support Paradox Interactive after all that I’ve read. But this shouldn’t be your focus anyway, why care if EA are buried or not? Just focus on finding a game that you like, it shouldn’t be that deep and it’s not healthy to hate a video game.

AlterLife to me seems like it's either a scam or it's essentially trying to be a new SecondLife. The big drawback of that 'hyper-realistic' style is that those textures don't work very well in every animation, environment or lighting conditions. For example when we see the lady cooking.. the dress, skin and hair all have neat textures BUT they don't work well together, don't respond to environment lighting and the shadows casted seem a bit glitchy in some places.
So I personally don't expect anything from that, I doubt it's going many places and even if it does continue development and releases I doubt it'll be popular with Sims fans (assuming it is even a real project at all), ParaLives however I have high expectations of, I really think they're going to knock it out of the park, they have a small team but they are so open to feedback and positive in their communication that it truly feels like a community project and that's amazing.
I am a huge sims fan and also big on hyper realism, we exist.
AlfterLife is very similar to "people of newbery" and that used storebrought assets, nothing selfmade or unique
Afterlife also has this Stock Unreal assets feeling, which to me is always a big red flag.
I love the style of paralives so much, it's so pretty. I'm suprised so many people don't like it. The building tools also look amazing
Honestly, I was one of those who didn't really like the look of the characters in Paralives but I think that was simply because I was more used to Sims 4's more polished looking character models. However, the look of the character in Paralives really grew on me and I now think they're pretty pleasant looking.
I'm a patron for paralives and honestly didnt like the early character models, but I knew it was something they wanted to change and they did. The models look much better now.
Paradox has a good history with up keeping its games, and having loads of support for modding. Also, they're unionised.

Paralives and Life By You look great. I prefer Paralives' art direction, but Life By You looks very feature rich and deep.

So excited for Life by you! (And paralives as well, I subscribe to the patron) The graphics for life by you really gives me a nostalgic feeling though, reminds me of sims 3 which I love. I'm really hoping for an immersive world in life by you. I want to feel like the world is growing and changing along with the played household. I want the NPCs to have purpose, reasons to go where they're going. I can't wait until more information is released about life by you :)

Didn't Alterlife turn out to be a scam? Pretty sure they used the same assets as People of Newberry. Both scams that arose, after the popularity of Paralives first started.
😱 I had NO idea! That's absolutely wild. I will have to look into that more; my only knowledge was from the trailer and steam page.
@@chonkikage Just Google the name of the listed developer next time. It's really that simple. If you find no company history, no names of developers, no previous games, that check out, nothing other than a donation page (red flag right there!!) and a few crumbs, like this Afterlife 'game' VGG Studio has, than be pretty suspicious, and just hold off unless you're sure it's legit. For example, when I first heard of Paralives, I immediately looked up the developer and found a whole host of history and games he had been involved in, and immediately knew that it was probably legit. It took...a mere 2 minutes max to do that. Steam obviously doesn't check this stuff out. It seems that anyone can put an 'up and coming' game on Steam - there have been a lot of fakes. Giving them airplay like this doesn't help and isn't exactly wise. There are a lot of naive people who will also assume that because it's mentioned on your channel, that means it's legit, as if seeing something in print makes it real, lol. You'd think people are smarter than that, but sadly they're not. There's a certain responsibility that comes with a RUclips channel - you're telling people what to think because they'll just believe you without thinking themselves. Make sure that what you're advertising to people is real, otherwise you're just helping to scam people. Even if it's not intentional, the result is the same.
They literaly used the same animation in the trailer! The man with the wolf tattoo is used in both!

A few comments think Alterlife is a scam 😭 I saw a reddit post speculating that they reused a lot of different assets and it's not a real game. 😮💨 I guess we will find out soon!

I’ve never heard of this game. I’m still going through this current simulation we’re living in.
I am very keen on Paralives since 2021 (the customization and visuals look very promising) and I am curious to see how Life by You will hold up since it’s being handled by Paradox and Rod Humble. Will be keeping an eye on it in March 20. AlterLife kinda turns me off for reasons I can’t describe besides the graphics being too hyper realistic and it being possibly a scam like The People of Newberry.

I think you will LOVE what they show off. It might be the best sims game once it's released, if they're able to pull off all their features well. I am still super excited for Paralives because I love that art style as well. I think a new era of simming is on its way!

I'm excited to see what comes of all of these upcoming titles, but I am by far the most confident in Life by You. The level of thoughtful and future-focused design they've already put into the game is so refreshing, and I cannot wait to throw my money at the finished product. On the other hand, Paradox is known for robust post release support of the base game. Major updates come with DLC, but also with free gameplay and content additions.
You don't need to buy every DLC to have fun with the game (that's true for Sims as well), and you won't get a decade of post Launch support and upgrades to the base game without some sort of post launch monetization. (And I'd rather have full DLCs than lootboxes, battle pass or even micro transactions. )
@@LostInNumbers They do have a recent history of releasing lackluster products as DLC platforms though, so I'm still a little worried and not at all on the unquestioning hype train.

I am stoked for Life by you and Paralives! Alterlife looked good until she mentioned that there's a virtual meeting with friends...not a huge fan of room chats and avatars so idk if I am looking forward to it. I am just excited for Sims to finally have competition, they now can't be lazy for project Renee if they want to see success.
Paradox knows how to make gameplay where time flies by and I’m not just talking about Skylines but I’ve played about every one of their games.
i'd appreciate either one of these, with online co-op at the very least. i just don't understand why we don't have that already
I predict Life by You will be the most popular of these. Its reminiscent of Sims 3 in a lot of ways, thus will be familiar to the masses.
AlterLife will depend on computer playability.
Life by you accidentally caught my attention from a video just yesterday and I'm really interested in an alternative to Sims 4. I see a lot of similarities with Sims 3 in a good way. I have to admit that AlterLife has such a high level of details, game dynamics, and other elements. Too bad it won't be palpable soon. Paralives is good in its own way, but it didn't fully convince me, maybe because I saw several variants. Anyway, if I were to buy, I would choose the first two mentioned.
I think Life by You will be the most similar to the Sims franchise. I can't wait to get more info on it later this month!!

@@danielm.595 i just searched up the day before and it says it was removed due to the release date being delayed. it was supposed to launch on march 1st of this year but now it's november 10th so it will most likely be added back at some point.

i am a big paralives supporter (having been a simmer since TS1).
The dev team for paralives has actually said previously that there will be modding tools in their game. i will try and find the roadmap they have so that i can show you.

That's amazing, so glad to hear they will include modding. Paralives has been on my radar for a long time bc I fell in love with the art style and all of the innovations they showed off super early :)

Paralives has me so excited for the build mode, and I love the character creation.
Alter Live is absolutely beautiful and love the realism, but hopefully the movements are more fluid before release.
I love the Sims 4 and I personally don't mind DLC, but I hate how much money you need to spend just to have what should be the base game.

Paradox didn't kill SimCity, EA did that themselves by making it online only which was a bad decision
EA are trying multiplayer again for Sims 5. Sims 4 was multiplayer but they had to make it single player due to the backlash of Sim City.
With the recent news of Sims5 potentially being heavily monetised, even more than Sims4, these games are gonna save the life simulation game concept
This is the first I'm hearing about Alter Life and I have to say that this simulation is the one that I'm most excited for. I just love how realistic everything is.

I'm not sure if Alterlife is a scam or not, but even if it wasn't... I don't like the hyper realistic characters. I prefer characters with a more cartoony look. So I probably won't be looking any further into AlterLife.

One of my favorite things about the Sims, especially the Sims 2 and 3 is the goofiness. I would love to see a Sims like game that could replicate this element of the Sims.
The modding community is pretty much carrying the Sims franchise and in order for the alternatives to succeed they all need to consider supporting mods. Paralives seems to be to the most promising candidate out of that list because of their community-focused approach 👀
Definitely agree, they've been doing such a good job!! I know we will get mods from Life by You, but I am not sure about AfterLife. Honestly I have so many questions about the latter--I hope we get more info asap!
They have a cheat sheet. They just need to look at all the most downloaded mods for Sims and make sure to make it a built-in feature of the new game.
They intend to support mods as they have said so in past interviews and allow it for their other games
First time i've heard life by you, but it reminds me a bit of signiti who were making a sims-like game with realistic graphics (they seemed to have stopped?) paralives has potential too.

It's Paradox Interactive, they always have DLC for their games like Crusader Kings 3, although they're DLC policy isn't quite as crazy as the Sims 4 or even Sims 3 but I'm 99.99% sure it will have DLC, but if it has more depth and is still cheaper than Sims 4 DLC onslaught, it'll be well worth it
out of all of these Paralives looks the most intriguing to me!! I love that they have their own unique style and it seems like they've put a lot of thought into making building customization that gives you lots of freedom without being overwhelming or complicated, all of the design tools look intuitive and nice to use!

Life by you has a chance of blowing ea out the water former sims colleagues are working for paradox and life by you team now and they’re alresdy taking feedback into consideration and they have something unique than just another cartoony life sim i love how mature and realistic it looks!
paralives will have an in game custom content shop(/loader) of sorts from what i remember (don't quote me on this), or at least integrating mods will be VERY easy. that's quite literally one of the team's goals, paralives will greet mods and cc with open arms

I am soooo excited for this. I can already see The Sims 5 failing (unfortunately due to EA) as soon as they announced cross-play with MOBILE with The Sims 4 already being held back by being cross-play with console, this is not good and it gives into the lower quality just for mobile to be able to sustain the game. You think TS4 is low quality now, you don't wanna see mobile. Not, only that but, the fact that they are making the game Multi-Player. You can see what happened with SimCity (before EA destroyed that franchise too) when they decided to make a game, designed to be a sandbox, single player game, in which everyone enjoys it that way. They are headed down the same route with TS5, I don't want to see The Sims franchise fail, but unfortunately, it's been a looooooong time coming. You could see the slight drop in quality from TS3 (though I love that iteration probably my fave) to the massive drop in quality in TS4. I wouldn't be surprised if Life By You as well as Paralives (and any other LifeSims) put The Sims franchise 6 feet under. I mean really, if Will Wright saw his game (and I am sure he can see) he wouldn't want that for his game or for any people who LOVE life simulation games.
Mobile devices are VERY powerful these days, you seem to be underestimating them a bit.
@friendlyotaku9525 I don't underestimate mobile devices but to compare a mobile phone to a gaming pc or even a laptop (which games are primarily built on) or to even compare them to consoles where you are running huge games that take up gigabytes of space is disingenuous. The game would have to be severely cut down in size/ambition (especially if you want something like TS3) in order to accommodate mobile devices without sacrificing performance. Which, in turn, makes the game not as good for PC and console players. TS4 was already seriously lacking but an additional issue constantly brought up by the "gurus" is that they didn't want to amp up the game because they wanted it to run on console and lower-end pc's. Now, if TS4 is the way it is now just to accommodate lower end pcs and console, what do you think it would be like trying to accommodate a mobile phone? Life Simulation games are massive, they aren't like online ready to play games like fortnite which can run from a multitude of devices. That's why there are few life sims in the genre now. Life Simulation is ambitious, costly and time consuming.
@@Natsumikurei it's far too early to really know the ambition of Project Renee though from the first look we know they want to increase customisation options including bringing back the color wheel/create a style from Sims 3 but even more in depth. And as technology keeps evolving who knows where will be when The Sims 5 actually comes out, all we know is it is a few years away.
@friendlyotaku9525 Them bringing back the color wheel will not save the game. What people complained the most about TS4 was the lack of GAMEPLAY (what makes a video game). Them adding customization on top of customization will not change what the players have been complaining about. That's why most TS4 content on RUclips is of people doing builds and CAS. The game is a dress up simulator, that is it's issue. Not customization. But like I said, I don't want the game to fail but continuing to hear news of multi-player (which hardly anyone asked for) and trying to make the game compatible on ALL devices, will make the games quality suffer, I have no doubt in my mind about that. Though, you also must pay attention to who owns the sims franchise. EA is notorious for taking and destroying franchise after franchise. TS5 being under EA and it returning to its former glory like TS2/3 (and more) is gullible especially with players complaints with EA over the past decade with TS4. I have become smart a long time ago than to trust EA with my money, but I will wait for the reviews to roll in upon TS5 release and make my decision then but, these simple things that no one has asked for and what has made TS4 bad will, not bode well for The Sims Franchise, even if it's my favorite game.
tbh I most likely wont get any of these games when they come out, but I do think the building customization in Paralives looks awesome and I actually really like the hyper-realistic look in Alter Life
I love Paralives art style. I’m of the opinion that stylized art and graphics still have a place in their respective industries. Not everything needs to be hyper realistic.
I’m excited for all the upcoming life simulations because it will encourage healthy competition. The Sims has been a monopoly for too long. This is coming from someone who love the Sims dearly (I’ve been playing Sims 1 since soon after it came out in 2000) but EA has continued to release broken pack after broken pack and I’m just ready to give another life sim a try. I’m excited for all of them expect Project Rene.

I Love Paralives art style and I also love Life by You's features that really bring the game together from what I've seen. I have real high hopes for these games!

I still love my sims but it will be interesting to explore and play other simulator games out there
I own a lot of games made by Paradox, and I'm honestly so excited. They're really well-made games, and they're responsive to their fanbases. They definitely like to release DLCs like EA, but they're actually pretty packed with content.
I wouldn't be too sure about Life by You not having a lot of DLC. Paradox have a lot of DLC on their other games just look at Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis 4 and Stellaris. That said they often don't like locking core mechanics behind DLC and DLCs often have new mechanics as part of the base game and then an expanded version of the mechanic in the DLC. Modability is a big plus

They have a LOT of in-game editor tools for items, mods, dialogue/storytelling, quests, anything you can think of, and they confirmed full modding capabilities will be available! IMO even if they do have DLC, they definitely seem to be prioritizing the simming community and making sure everyone can have access to lots of supplemental features off the bat.

and is tomorrow the day they will reveal more about Life By You, wish this game shows up soon so we can start playing it and enjoy finally a treat to the Sims monopoly, and i just played TS1 and TS3, that two hours i spend on TS4 barely count as i had played it, just found boring not be allowed to walk freely in the city without load screens. So Sims 3 being my favorite, i'm excited to play LBY, from what they showed, just the lader i think was strange, everyone that try to go down on those stairs probably you get an acident and die much younger

If Paradox releases this as a fully loaded finished base game, and then sprinkle some nice LITTLE DLC releases here and there, then I wouldn't be upset. Life by You looks very promising and since it's being made by Paradox, I'm pretty excited for it.

Alter Life graphics are amazing and I favor that over every other game.
However, I have to give The Sims their flowers for starting all of this and giving us life stages. I know Paralives will have life stages but I don't like the cartoon look the characters have.
Life By You may be working on life stages but I don't think it will be ready by September. I see nothing about life stages in Alter Life.
I plan on getting ALL of them.
To be completly honest out if the three games you showed I think paralives looks the best. Making a hyper realistic 4K HD unreakengines is fine within a few years, but after 20 or even 10 years the games will age extremly poorly.
Also one of the things I like about the sims is how cartoony it is, you have aliens, supernaturals, unicorns etc that that aren’t apparent in the real world which makes the gameplay a bit more zanny. If the sims was just literally a hyper realistic life sim I wouldn’t play it.

I feel like a lot of people who play the Sims 4 just feel taken advantage of at this point. They charge so much for so little in their different packs.. Most should have been combined, but for still less than they are charging now. Packs should not be the same price as the main game. I grew up playing the sims and have always loved it. Sims 3 was and is amazing, I can't remember the game play of the 1st and 2nd. I still play sims 3 as I can have bigger families, have horses, it's an open world and more to do, more sims to interact with, bigger towns with more houses. I got sims 4 because it was the newest thing, where the graphics and everything are cute, I wasn't entirely thrilled by how little there was and how tiny the worlds were. I like in Sims 3 that you can view lots and houses before you buy them. I have the pets pack and I love them, but compared to sims 3 the pets are sooo needy, so much of my time goes to taking care of them. Also having kids is a time sucker as well and my game tends to glitch where the parents won't leave the baby alone and results in the parents and baby super upset with low motives.I know people who have spent so much money on all the different packs, but I go to look at the packs and I really don't understand why they have such a big price tag for hardly any content. In my opinion a lot of the content, not all, should just be included in updates. Some packs should have definitely been combined to possibly make the price more understandable.
I completely agree, the franchise needs to be made more accessible and affordable! I like the idea that the base game went free-to-play, but I agree that the expansions (and all the other DLC) are still overpriced especially for the amount of content we get in them.
I’ve said for a while that if the sims would make a game using unreal engine it would be awesome. So I’m interested to see where Alter Life goes.

I am truly excited for both Life by You and Paralives to compete with The Sims franchise.
Also, I like that now we have more options to play with. For example, if you are a person who loves cartoonish and calming vibes type of game, then Paralives is for you. But if you are that person who's into semi-realism games, then Life by You is perfect.😍😍😍
I trust paradox with everything, CK3 is amazing and seeing how big their regular updates are and their dlc that is just how dlc used to be where its not something that should be in the game but just adds spices and flavoring to the game as a whole
It would have been great to have more information on AlterLife, i'm more up for hyper realistic than cartoonish sims but that doesn't mean i won't play Paralives, however, I can't wait for Life By You.

I am optimistic about life by you. As a long time player of Paradox games you can come to expect a modding community that is capable of creating complete overhaul mods that rival or surpass DLC content, however, it is a bit naive to think Paradox games don't have $100's in DLC released over a games life. EU4 has something like 24 DLCs excluding cosmetic packs.
So glad there is finally competition for EA and Sims!
