Like I'm certainly not the most avid Sims player and I agree TS3 was better than TS4, but I enjoy the game for what it is. I don't have a million DLC packs (I think I have...3? One of which I got free?) and again I'm not saying that it's the best game ever, but I absolutely disagree with saying it's the WORST game.

As easy at it is to blame EA for the state of the Sims 4 we can't ignore the role the playerbase had.
People are far too forgiving when it comes to the Sims 4. How many times have people expressed disappointment with how broken or lackluster a pack released only to say they'll buy it anyway because "the modders will fix it" or "at a discount when EA gets it together and fixes their stuff" or even "I don't care about the problems with the pack it has X feature I really like."
Guys, EA doesn't care how you feel about their game because they _know_ you'll throw money at them anyway. All they gotta do is put out a pretty pre-rendered trailer to get people hyped and you're hooked.
Other gaming communities would've straight up stop giving the developers money for putting out low quality content like this. Just look at gaming disasters such as Redfall, Fallout 76, and No Man's Sky at launch. Those games got torn to shreds when people saw the state they were in.
The difference is that at least No Man's Sky actually fixed their game and put out all their promised features and then some.
The sims 4 on the other hand...👁👁

I miss seasons, pets and generations, my most used packs, but you can have a really good time playing with no add-ons, and it actually makes me excited to add more stuff later and actually engage with each pack to the fullest (something I never really did before). It's frustrating. I WANT to like the game. I do. But I can't. It bores me very quickly and the gameplay is so shallow. I have way more fun playing the first 3 Sims games. What also frustrates me is how much money I spent on it since it came out (back when the basegame was full price around $60, before it was free every 5 seconds, and before DLC was always on sale).
Say what you want about Sims 3's store system, but you have to admit that when you play Sims 3, you can tell the Sims team still had SOME love and care for the game and the players. And the store was optional add-ons; not mandatory or anything, but your game can feel complete without it...store items just spruce things up. 4's DLC packs feel mandatory to make the game even remotely fun, but that fails miserably. Nowadays the Sims team are of touch and shallow. Ugh.

    FANTASTIC video! 👌🏾👌🏾
The Sims 4's first advantage for me was being able to be played on any computer easily, but that's not true anymore for a while now. I got the Sims 4 shortly after launch in a giveaway and I still managed to play 2 and 3 more. I uninstalled 4 a couple years ago. I still enjoy watching videos about it from people who like it (and don't like it), but that's the extent of my interactions with it. I don't even watch the trailers anymore. I'm so disappointed.
The second advantage: the mods for 4 are amazingly cool. That kept me from uninstalling the game in the past -- but modders for the older games have been catching up. I can get all the CC and almost all the mods I could want without having to go through the weaker game. So it's sayonara. It felt like a breakup, but uninstalling it made more hard drive space to download more stuff for the older games. You win some, you lose some. 😝

I gave up on The Sims 4 back when they released the My First Pet stuff pack thing. It was crystal clear at that point what direction the game was going in. And indeed, it got worse with each pack. The Sims 4 is a soulless, boring cash-grabby game. Comparing it to the glory days of Sims 1-3, it breaks my heart. This isn’t my beloved Sims game anymore.
I don’t have high hopes for Sims 5. Hopefully Paralives and Life By You carry the baton like Cities Skylines did with SimCity.

This just made me realize that I play the sims 4 almost everyday for HOURS but I never actually play the game, all I do is create a family and once they kids grow and I have nothing more to do I create a new game. I spend hours downloading cc to make the most realistic and pretty sims I can, and then decorating their house (because I suck at building), but then at the end I never actually play, I just keep making sims and decorating houses over and over again because I feel like I already did everything I could in the game (and still, I have like 7 dlc packs that I only got on discount because 39,99€ and 19,99€ for a dlc is just extremely expensive for a dlc that only adds a few things to the game). Today I decided that I wanted something new, and since I’ve seen so many people talking about how the old games were amazing and detailed, I went to CEX (a second handed store of electronic devices, games, etc) and bought The sims and The sims 2 (both were deluxe versions) and some of their expansion packs, all of this for 9,50€, cheaper than basically any pack of the sims 4. 😭😭😭 I still have to find a way to play it on my pc, since it doesn’t have a disk player, but I won’t give up. I am sure I’m going to love both games, and even though The sims 4 it’s not the best game, I still enjoy to play it. It might not be as interesting as the other sims games, but I still manage to do fun things in the game and having a good time playing it (even if I don’t spend that much time playing the actual game and just creating sims and decorating) 🫶

For DLC, many of the Sims 4 packs can be in one pack. I remember playing the sims 3, and there was Late Night which came with apartments, fame, an acting career, and vampires, dance clubs and lounges (which had so much detail in comparison to sims 4, despite clubs and lounges being base game. The gameplay is just so shallow), and even the basic interactions such as slow dancing added so much depth to the sims 3.
In Sims 4, to access all this you need city living, get famous, vampires, get together (if you want to add more gameplay for clubs), my wedding stories (to have the slow dancing interaction without mods, which is ridiculous that they’re charging so much considering the pack is broken and it’s even worst then dining out. At least with dining out, there’s a mod to fix it for PC/Mac players. But with “My Wedding Stories” the pack is just unplayable.
If you add all these packs together, it will be $160. Which is so much money just so you can have the same or similar amount of gameplay. Not to mention the world is so much bigger in Sims 3, they include apartments, and then they have upper and richer celebrities on the other side of the map. Late night is what Get Famous wished it was. Apparently in the new expansion pack, they are adding the option to build your own apartments which should of been City living, as the entire point of city living was literally living in apartments.

It's so sad that people who have only played TS4 believe that it's the best game ever. It feels so wrong. In a perfect world, I wish EA made a game with TS2 gameplay, TS3 open world, story progression, and the colorwheel, and graphics like TS4. I am sick of TS4 being so mind controlling in such a bad way. If you compare an expansion from TS3 to a TS4 one, you can see who EA has really become. Barely any content and still tricking players. Then, the Sims team tries to guilt trip us and try to make us feel pity for them, but as a buyer's POV,. this shouldn't be the case. At the end of the day, we are buying a product and expect it to work. Imagine getting a brand new car and the dealer is like "Look at this brand new amazing car with so many feature! Oh... but ignore the fact that it is missing two wheels, it stalls a lot, and the paint job is half done"

I've been playing The Sims since I was 5. And I was 5 in 2001, so I got to play TS1, then 2 (here, in Russia, the base game and, I believe, University came out in English first, but starting with the next packs, the game got a Russian release, so we had to buy the og game + University again) and 3, I saw them come and go. Those games were full of content, and even to this day, I like to come back to all of them, even the very first game, which might not have aged as well as the other two, but it's still full of charm and heart. Many find it eerie, but I find it oddly comforting and welcoming.
With this background, of course I was waiting for TS4. I wasn't too big on the way it looked, but I was interested because, hey, it's The Sims! And oh how disappointed I was. It was raw, boring, with not much to do. Sure, the CAS was great, but what's the point if I do not want to do anything with these characters? I like building houses in TS4, but yet again, what's the point if I don't want anyone to live there? What's the point of having these few good things if the main point of the game, which is life simulation, is boring and practically non-existent while potentially interesting gimmicks, cause that's what active careers and whatnot are, get old in about an hour? I only ever paid for the base game, which cost me nearly 3000 rubles in 2014, which was very expensive at the time, and never paid for a single pack. I pirate it every now and again to build a few houses and see what it has to offer, but I am not going to pay for a game that is this lazy and half-assed, not to mention so blatantly greedy.
Edit: Forgot to add, but there is one thing in particular that shows just how empty TS4 is. And for me, it's cheat codes. Rejuvenation chamber for TS1 (CC), need cheats for TS2 and TS3, I use them so that I can explore areas, mechanics and features. It may not be as challenging, sure, but the point is, there is stiff to do. In TS4, however, there's nothing to do. And what is there does not leave a lasting impression and is repetitive.

When I launch the Sims 4 the things I find missing are all the freebies they have offered that I tried to download (Jungle Adventure, and various kits and packs) as well as the Dogs and Cats expansion I bought years ago and that had been working up until recently. EA App says they're installed but the game says they are still downloading. Online help hasn't fixed the problems. What I like to do is take Sims 3 and recreate the promo pictures of Sims 4 to the best of my ability or most recently, used a rabbithole rug to create a walk-in horse arena (rodeo style) to play in Sims 3.

Avid Sims 3 player here, I can say that I've tried to play TS4 YEARS ago and could not. I maybe had it installed for a day or two before I deleted it entirely. I second-hand watch from Simmer on RUclips who play TS4 but man, what a shitshow. All of it. I do wish that the build mode in Sims 3 was as high-tech as it is now but I make do and I have lots of fun with creating solutions with cheats. I'll play all the Sims, excluding the 4th, until the end of time. It's my creative outlet and has done so much good for me without any stupid kits. When will EA hear our voices, ENOUGH DAMN KITS!! Focus on the gameplay.

The lack of care towards the ACTUAL GAME left it unplayable. Not surprised.
SIMS! aimed for better graphics ONLY. Just "startd there and be pretty" LAZY mindset that automatically destroys every income/meaning to buy the game
They also had the GALL to OVERprice it
You are going down with this one if you continue

I agree with all these points about the game, but I have another issue with EA itself that I'm surprised people aren't as angry about as I would have expected.
After waiting 1.5 years, I have finally been able to buy a new gaming laptop and all I wanted to do was run the Sims 3 smoothly - but it turns out that there is a big issue with newer processors. The game only opens once and then simply never runs again for me, despite trying all the fixes multiple times.
This has been an issue since at least Dec 2021 and EA has done nothing about it - they are still selling the sims 3 and it is often completely unplayable! I just don't understand why this isn't a bigger issue!

For me, the Sims 4 was a shitshow in a good way, comedy gold if you're watching someone else play. So many RUclipsrs just sit back & let the Sims do their chaos while stringing together a narration of the madness unfolding. The pricey DLC packs with 8 items each is unforgivable though.

I love the Sims But i don’t know for How much longer. The game is very laggy and my Im getting quite upset about them freezing and not doing anything. Sometimes it can take up to 15-30 ’Sims minutes’ before they continue doing what they’re supposed to Do. I don’t know How much longer i can endure this, If the team don’t address all bugs and glitches..

I haven’t BOUGHT a sims 4 pack since like the 2nd expansion I think? I wish others would follow suit and start telling EA how they feel with their pockets because the CEO doesn’t care what you say if you’re still buying the damn product. As long as the CEO’s pockets are getting filled it doesn’t matter what the devs want and it doesn’t matter what you want. But sims players just keep buying everything that comes out so the franchise is gonna be run into the ground just like fallout. I’m sure the sims 5 will be like fallout 76 and piss everyone off but I really really hope they get it together. Maybe the competitors coming out will motivate them to do more but I doubt it

just to put a dissenting opinion in the mix, i've been playing the sims for since launch day when i was 13 and since then i have put about 6,600 hours into it. i've also played at least two thousand hours of the sims 3 and still return to it often. i like the games for vastly different reasons. the sims 4 is the best sims game for imagination and storytelling, and the modding community makes the game worth it for me. i know a lot of people don't want to play a game that requires some level of roleplay to have the most fun while the mechanics aren't too great, but i still find a lot of joy in creating a sim or two that i'll play to their deaths, then carry on playing at their descendants, crafting complex interpersonal storylines that fill in the gaps of gameplay. the older sims games have personal dealbreakers for me that suck a lot of my fun out, like frustration in ts3 about my sims getting stuck on everything (even after doing the tricks in game files and placing furniture farther apart). and i find the sims 2 unplayable because the way you go backward in time when you come home from a community lot makes the sims' days feel so non-cohesive and unrealistic. the sims 4 is a game that requires a lot of heavy lifting on the part of the player and the modding community, and i understand a lot of people think it makes it worse, but it's what i love about it. i dont have any issues with you beefing with the sims 4 and ESPECIALLY ea, get your bag messy king. i stick around for your sims 3 builds and gaming and funny blunt personality. i could keep talking in defense of ts4 but i wont make this comment any more miserably long than it has to be.
closing argument/ tldr: people who play this game love it for good reasons.

I will admit that with 100gb of CC and mods, i think you're absolutely right. I was able to make passable short films in the sims 4 bc each sim basically does what whatever you want (eventually). Also, as much as I despise the emotion system for game play, if you are sneaky with it, you get the facial expressions you need for screenshots and filming.

@@Rekowcski yes, this too! i used ts4 to make my character/house from a ttrpg campaign, and using MCCC to give my sim whatever moodlets i want and set up various animations made my references to show other players much more lively and accurate than my friends who found 2D art online

The thing i hate about The Sims 4 is that you have to create a family first before you can edit the town so when u get to edit town then save and exit the game. So when i load the game back up you have to go back to the family you created before you can edit the town/world again. This was not in other sims games as you can edit the town without having to make a family first and another thing is the worlds/towns look to cartoony nothing like the other sims worlds where they looked realistic

It’s been 9 years. 9 effing years with the worst installment in the franchise. I knew since day one that it was not good but I never thought it’d be such a bad game EA should be ashamed they released it.
Whoever has faith and hope after all this time, they’re delusionals and they’re part of the problem. Cause if you buy you actually tell them “hey it’s good, we’re spending money so nothing’s wrong. Not the fact you withheld content only to upsell it later, nor the fact that the game is broken and bugs from over 7 years ago aren’t fixed, nor that your updates break the game even more, nor that you charge 40$ for an expansion that isn’t an expansion, nor that your game is too vanilla as if we’re all 10 years old, nor that after spending over 1000$ the game is still shallow and lackluster, nor that a Shit 4 expansion pack is the 1/4 of a Sims 3 expansion”.
Shall I keep going? I can

I collected all the Sims games, EXCEPT Sims 4. That I pirate and even then I can't be bothered to play. I noticed the decline in Quality in Sims 3. And it's always in the little things. the Microwaved food doesn't spin inside the microwave. Sims do not physically open car doors anymore. Animations become a lot more simplified. The Sims 3 could possibly be excused with it being a "big world simulation" but the Sims 4 lays it all bare. The Series peaked with Sims 2.

Bought the base game when it first came out, having been an avid player of the first three games. I was confused, then shocked, then angry when I realised how pared down the game was. I shelved it after my first playthrough and never touched it again. Fans were gaslit and dismissed when they expressed their disappointment. I will never buy another Sims game.
