I also think it's worth mentioning the relationship system in the sims 2. The fact that sims didn't automatically have the exact same opinion of each other, you could have unrequited love, you could have a sim think another was their friend when they actually hated them, added a lot to the game. And also, ghosts! Ghosts were genuinely scary in the sims 2. The sound effects, the fact they could possess items like the teddy bear and make its head spin, the fact they acted out their deaths and left behind puddles and burn marks, even the fact they could scare other sims to death. All of that was so cool.
Not to mention spouses with similar interests would resolve an argument while only suffering a minor relationship penalty, compared to those who had little in common.
IT WAS DRIVING ME CRAZY FOR SOOOOO LONG when I first played Sims 4!!! I was like WTF is going on with my relationships and how do I fix this??! Then I found out it's a feature not a bug and there's no mods (last time I checked) to rectify it 🥲🥲🥲🥲
The Sims 2 was made entirely by Maxis. Also, considering how hard hand and finger animations are to animate (to this day), shame on EA for reasons too many to count.
@@adorkible91 meanwhile Sims5 is probably on the way to official launch. But you're right. Paralives and InZOI are the better replacement. I just hope they don't follow the same bloodsucking formula as EA's super expensive DLCs.
@@MollyHJohns is inzoi really that similar to a sim simulator? I barely know about that game, the few stuff i watched makes it look like an open world game with social interactions.
@@Gonzas97It's basically The Sims but you actually get to move your character around instead of clicking. The premise of the game is still the same as The Sims
I miss how in Sims 2 when you made a group meal, your character would serve everyone food and they would eat together. The meals seemed to take longer too.
The meals were ENDLESS in the Sims 2 they were constantly talking and barely eating their food, I remember having to send everyone to school/work hungry because they talked instead of eating breakfast 😂😂
In Sims 3, if there's a party, you can choose an option of serving food for everyone on the loan or for guests only. They will come to pick up their portions and will eat longer.
I got into Sims 2 near the end of high school, about 2007 or 2008. I'd been playing the console versions for a year or so before that, but finally got it on PC and fell in LOVE! I had SO much fun, and what I miss maybe the most are all the absolutely amazing cinematics they had. It was just perfection! I collected all the expansion packs and still have all those disks sitting proudly on my game shelf to this day. The Sims 3 was my high-school graduation gift to myself, LOL! It came out literally on graduation day, or very close, as I recall. It blew my mind too, in its own way, even if it ran like hot garbage on my laptop, especially after Pets when it made bearded monstrosities out of especially horses until I got a new PC. Even now, though, it's still got ... issues whenever I go back to play it. It actually caused my PC to do a thermal shutdown last week... although to be fair the things 7 years old, and now it's doing thermal shutdowns every day. I also own Sims 4 and, while it will never measure up, I have had my fun with it. There are some aspects that I would have loved to see in earlier games though nothing I can't live without. I never did get my own disks for the original Sims. EA should totally sell it; you're right, they're losing a lot of money by not selling remastered/rereleased versions of the first 2 games. I WAS fortunate enough to snag EA's Sims 2: Ultimate Collection. I was super lucky because I'd not heard of it until just after they'd stopped offering it. I actually got a nice EA chat rep (shocker I know) and fed them all my Sims 2 registration codes I kept in a text file because I'm half-blind (no joke, Braille reader with some useable vision) and hated having to squint them every time I had to reinstall a game. Fortunately, since I'd already had them registered to my EA account so got lucky. That was almost a decade ago, though, so doubt anybody could get a free Sims 2 Ultimate Collection now without just up and pirating it. I mourn what the Sims series once was, and what TS4 COULD have been, even as I still plow money into the EA cash cow from time to time. I hope a game like Paralives comes out at the very least for something truly NEW to play: a game made with love again.
Lol, the sims 2 sold 4.5 million copies in it's first year and over 7mil by october 2006 and ea are making assloads off the people who play ts4. Trust me they're not losing any money over ts1+2 piracy. In fact, I'd prefer ea to keep pretending ts2 doesn't exist.
Ok, the couple sleeping and waking up together is pure wholesome gold. Really cute and really sad they took that out in later releases. I never knew couples could be so cute in the sims.

The Sims 3 also has the couple animations! They kept a lot of other cute details too. Miss this kind of stuff in TS4.
you should've seen my face when i was playing ts2 today and saw there were mini interactions for slow dancing (holding each other close, putting the head on the shoulder, etc.) it made me so unreasonably happy 🥹
the best part about the sofa seat switch, is that in the sims 2 if you tell someone to sit next to someone that doesn't like them, they'll occasionaly autonomasly do that slide to block the sit down option.
@@Sitycims I will fall out of my chair laughing if that is true that they autonomously block the seat on the couch if it's someone they don't like. 🤣 This is why ts2 feels more alive. These kinds of details that can be seen not texted to the player but SEEN.
@@ladyselin35 - At this point, I'm honestly blown away by any update that ACTUALLY improves gameplay, but the lovestruck pack, has a lot of good things going for it, if you truly want an immersive experience. My very first playthrough of the sims 4 in 2020, having never played a Sims game before was super immersive, and dating was quite a challenge. After you figured out the romance mechanic though, you could bang pretty much any sim you wanted in 30 seconds flat. Now the mechanic being based largely around matching traits, and pot luck to that effect, really makes the individual sims feel more like actual people, and it makes romance more of a challenge, plus the relationship settings for full customization. Nah I can't even $h!t on lovestruck, even though it's obnoxiously LGBT-centric as usual.
@@Brakathor "boo-hoo queer folk in my franchise that used to have a completely bi cast until they expanded into having sexualities be unique to individual characters" Not sure where you were going with this.
@@Rad-Dude63andathird - Bi cast? I don't understand your objection to my objection... If you want to talk about specialized sexualities, they're fine, I guess, if they were ever needed at all. Wicked whims already takes care of all those needs anyway, so I could have thought up a dozen better things for the EA devs to put their time into. I will say from a gameplay perspective, it can actually be quite annoying that you now have gay only sims who will refuse to breed with your sims. This was PARTICULARLY annoying when I was trying to load in a breedable Father Winter for my female character. Back to my original point, I feel like this feature too, is probably skewed way too hard to pander to the lgbt players. In real life, roughly 1 in 10 people self-identify as lgbt. I feel like roughly half the Father Winters were gay. I loaded in about 20 before I was satisfied. From a strict gameplay perspective even, I'd consider this a balancing issue, when you have a gameplay perk like "Father Winter's Baby."
I also hate that they took out burglars in sims 4. It was always fun to try and catch them or call the police right before they struck! Also don’t like how everything is done by phone and you can’t drive vehicles or get picked up by them anymore.
I miss the time when I had Hi-Tech sims that could build delivery bot, security bot and scrub bot.. Every sims with malicious intentions were electric shocked.. lol
One of the nicest things about the Sims 2 is how with big events like birth and weddings and the like, everyone will stop what they're doing to go attend. But in 4... It's like nobody cares.
YES IT ANNOYS ME SM its like so annoying. Idk hiw it is with dead reaction but sims 4 seems even worse with reactions and sims doing their own stuff, not carinf
@Ilivepuppys Well... there is not just the family 😐 friends and the staff (if you called them) were there too. If you were celebrating a wedding all the guests and even the staff was cheering. In TS4 literally not a single f*ck was given... I just bought the base game and was so damn disappointed that I deinstalled it after 30 minutes...
@@lauravogt1022 you saying you just bought the basegame of the sims 4? dude you were scammed its free, double checked on steam since I dont own it on there and sims 4 base game is free and has been for months
One detail that I really love is how upset a child would be if they see one of their parents cheating. Even though it's only a game that made me tear up a little.
To add to that, I love how kids who have good relationships with their parents run over to hug them when they get home from work, or get excited to show them when they’re grades are up. It’s so cute.
AUGHHH the couple waking up animation is one of my favorite little things in the whole game 😭 The little kiss on the forehead is just the sweetest thing ever
The older games had so much more personality, now they’re literally like robots playing human instead of a game of actual simulated humans. I hope in the next game they add personality back into it and the charm of the older games, it’ll definitely make it more satisfying to play
I think the goal that the sims team developers set out to achieve while creating The Sims 4 was to cut corners & recycle as many animations as possible, Lol. Some people say "oh, if this existing animation can be duplicated to serve the new interaction, why bother making a new one?". And to that, I'd say that this approach has decreased the immersion of the sims 4 more than helping it. The Sims is a game that relies heavily on animations, we can only control our characters with mouse clicks, how do u expect people to not get bored if they have to watch the same animation for multiple interactions? Without providing unique & distinctive animation for each interaction, all the sims has left is....texts to read
I was watching a doc on it and it may have to do with the fact it was originally an online multiplayer game. Doesn’t excuse the fact but bet it was cutting corners cause it wasn’t originally meant to be a game the way it is today
Not to mention that you can default replace just about everything in the Sims 2, so it can look however you want it! You want realistic? You can do that. You want ts4-esque? You can do that. Alien planet? There's defaults for that. Medieval? You can do that too. You just have to do a bit of internet sleuthing to track some stuff down. >.
I loved in Sims 2 the whole teen sneaking out at night. If your parent caught you, there was SO much dialogue from the parent giving out to the kid. It was so cool. Also how the teens would sometimes be brought back home in a cop car. Love sims 2
So sad what happened to all the Maxis games. Both The Sims and SimCity were destroyed. I’ve been playing The Sims since day one. I got all expansions for Sims 1, 2, and 3 but I never upgraded to Sims 4. Sims 4 looked bad from the beginning and nothing I’ve seen in all the years since has made me want to get it.
Sims 2 is pure gold in the series. I forgot some of these, but that was the point. I was so immersed I didn’t think about how cool and detailed it was. I was just playing.
All the lack of animations breaks the immersion, of course, but the worst part is with relationships. The cuddling while sleeping, the irreparably damaged relationships if you did something bad, the mere concept of CONSEQUENCES for what you do are almost absent in the sims 4. I still remember the first time I played in a rented lot in Saint Myshuno, an annoying neighbor told me I was doing too much noise and if I didn't cut it out she would have made me regret it. Needless to say I couldn't wait to see what would have happen. Try and take a guess? Nothing. It didn't even affect our relationship. This is the stuff that makes the game feel soulless. 😢
I have the same experience in that apartment. However instead of waiting what will happen, I simply let my male sim cheat with the neighbor's wife and got her pregnant. They broke up eventually but still lives in the same apartment lol. My wife? She knows it but oddly she don't mind it. I love breaking the game but this is a sign of underdeveloped games, lack of consequences. Because at the end, for some reason we become good neighbors lmao.
As someone who has been playing since The Sims 1 in 2000, Sims 4 is an absolute disappointment and after it I consider the franchise dead to me. Sims 2 remains the best game. RIP Maxis.
Tbh I'm torn between 2 and 3. 3, after heavy modding and some effort is really catchy and complex of a game. However it lacks the mood and vibe of 1 and 2, and complexity of animations is also sub par to 2. All in all I enjoy playing both 3 and 2.
@@YellowBriefs agreed. I wish they kept that mood. I miss 1 and 2 vibes in later games. That irony, parody of reality. It seems to me it was much more serious and mature than latter installments.
if it was named Sims ONE instead of sims 4, i would even consider it a "good game"... Sims 2 had AI at their best (still dumb but way better than 4 and 3) Sims 3 sacrificed storytelling and vehicle animations to deliver an open world experience with no loading screens. Sims 4 couldn't even get a fucking pool on release, and the "age states" were back to sims 1: children and adult only... and guess what? not even children were coded right! I just had a flirty little girl that started a relationship. I don't know if it has been fixed but i had the same fun as Chiches had with Saints Row: NONE. Played once and never touch it again
You can practically feel what a fun workplace maxis must’ve been in the ts2 and ts1 era through the work they did. I bet the devs had good synergy. The humor and zest of their games is so special.
Actually it was extremely painful and grueling to be a game dev in the early 2000s. It was like a hundred times more hard to reach deadlines than it is these days. You are just romanticizing it way too much. But once you stick your head out of the pink clouds and watch/read interviews with game devs from that era you will realize it was actually soul crushing and costed families and mental health. Maxis was definitely NOT a fun place to work in.
@@PatrizzaEatsApizza you don't have to be as rude as you are to explain this. Are you always talking with that much aggressiveness or is just because you're on internet and you feel powerful hidden behind your tiny keyboard?
My biggest "thing that was lost from Sims 2" is the genetics system, particularly when it comes to hair and eye colors. In Sims 3 and Sims 4, Sims inherit their hair and eye colors in a 50/50 coin toss between the parents' traits. In Sims 2, Sims actually inherit alleles from their parents which have dominant and recessive values coded in from the beginning. This allows Sims to inherit recessive traits from generations before their parents; for example, a brown-haired Sim and a black-haired Sim who each had a blond parent could have a blond child.
@@Ilivepuppys In The Sims 3, there's a small chance that traits such as hair color will be pulled from a grandparent, but it's random rather than via alleles and thus can result in situations you wouldn't get in real life (e.g. two natural blondes having a child with black hair). There's also a chance of "mutation," where a trait will be selected at random without regard for what traits are in the family. The Sims 3 also operates on Lamarck Was Right logic when it comes to dyed hair: if a redhead dyes their hair black, a child who inherits their hair color will have black hair, not red. This used to go for "unnatural" colors as well, but apparently there was a patch at some point that fixed that, so a Sim who dyes their hair blue won't pass on blue hair to their kids. The Sims 4, as far as I can find, has no system for inheriting traits from generations before the parents.
The Sims 2 genetics are crazy complex (there’s a video on RUclips covering it in detail). I get a little excited when that recessive hair or eye colour finally pops up after a generation or two. The recessive/dominant genes is one of the most detailed features of TS2 that doesn’t get mentioned enough.
@@florriebellerose I know, right? I love seeing if recessive traits will pop up again. I actually made my own little genetics mod to sort the hair and eye colors into their own unique genetic levels so that I could more efficiently Punnett-square my Sims' offspring. (It also makes green eyes dominant over dark blue because green eyes are generally dominant over blue in real life and the fact that they weren't in the game was bothering me.)
Yes! I had two black haired sims have a blond child. I was confused, but looked in the family tree to see that both black haired parents had one blond parent each, meaning they both gave their recessive trait. I love the genetics details and accuracy,
ive been wondering for years whats lacking in s4 and ive come to the conclusion is that the lacking thing is stuff like this. the characters human-like behaviour.
They won't even make a PS5 version of TS4 unfortunately.. The Sims 4 team are too lazy to render / code anything and that's why everything is broken - every update, every pack and every patch..
i think these days people making the game are not getting their fun from the work.. i bet in the 2000s making these animations was cool to do and fun to watch. now people just wanna get done with their shift and watch tiktok
This explains why the sims 4 needs so many mods to make it actually interesting to play. Sims 3 was bulky but the travel in towns was better since you could go anywhere, Sims 2 had the more lifelike animations, and Sims 4 has all these "options" but they all feel hollow and the interactions stagnant. In Sims 3 the characters really came to life. If I played sims 4 without mods I would never play it.
Quitting Sims 4 for Sims 2 and 3 was the best decision I've ever done, if there was ever a game that combined both Sims 2 and 3, I would buy that ASAP.
Yes, personally I don't even need an open world as I like to micromanage my hoods, but in Sims 2 I miss interactivity and fullness of the outdoors and some types of community lots from Sims 3, I must say Sims 2 has better restaurants though
The Sims 2 creators didn't have to go so deeply on the detail, like the rain on roof! I didn't even know about that! They didn't have to do that but they did. The amount of thought, love, care, effort, time, and money that went into this ... This is why this game has a shelf life of forever and we genuinely loved it despite its' imperfections, but only when we started wishing The Sims 4 lived up to it we realized, the hard way, how much the company had stopped caring for quality. These are just a few of the examples of how they're doing The Sims 4 on the cheap, skipping the details, replacing animation with teleporting (seriously, what's the point of the elevator when the door has more animation??), but without any pride in this game, they're going to lose their customers to their competition.
They kind of did have to. Like you may not notice it at all but altogether those details are why we still all loved the Sims 2 despite not having the open world of Sims 3 or the graphics of Sims 4. The immersion kind of happens without realizing it. Sims 4 I find myself so bored and these videos are helping me realize why. Sims is primarily an animation focused game. Cutting corners on that just makes it clicking and fulfilling stats.
This is because the company that actually developed The Sims 2 was the now defunct Maxis, not a bunch of EA's faceless studios that have nothing to do with Will Wright and his OG team. The Sims 3 (the base game) was the last time they ever developed anything for EA before disappearing for good.
@@MeadowStargazer You're deluding yourself. They're the same people. Here's a name for you, Lindsay Pearson. She was the person who developed both the Sims 2 and the Sims 4... The only person in the Sims 2 team that left was Will Wright, and he left after TS2BG came out, maybe stayed to develop a single EP and that's it...
I love how in Sims 2, personality traits of a sim also give different animations. Medium-Active sims change clothes at the dresser in a quick spin while lazy sims do a slow spin to change their clothes. Neat sims eat properly while sloppy sims tend to gobble their food while spraying food everywhere. Kids with good report cards run happily off the bus to show their parents while kids with bad grades crumple their report cards. I also love the lore that the creators built in the game. Each family/townie had a fun storyline that are play-ready. I miss The Sims 2 so bad.
the chess game was mind blowing to me, when I first noticed I spent god knows how much time watching my sims play against each other. The horse, looks like a horse, AND MOVES LIKE A HORSE. The sims 2 is just perfect.
What I really love about the sims 2 is that you can tell they took their time with the animations. As for sims 4 it just doesn’t look realistic, lacks emotion, and detail ugh. I miss the sims 2 bring it back! 😭
@@xtonibx5770 it's been a minute since I married a Sim...but I believe when I'm ready to start the ceremony, I clicked on the chairs or the wedding carpet the bride and groom will walk down on and it said 'please be seated' or 'please take your seats'. Then all the invited Sims started sitting down. They'll even sit according to who they came with or related to, and they'll stay seated until the ceremony is over. Some even cry and wipe their noses..it's hilarious. You have to wait until all the invited guests are there though, for you can only do this action once correctly. The hesitation when getting in the tub 😭😭 it's so relatable. Why does an old game have more attention to detail and quality than its modern day higher budget counterpart
ts2 came out 6 days before i was born, and i just started playing it in 2021 so there’s no nostalgia and i still think it’s better. i have a lot of nostalgia for ts3 (which i’ve been playing since i was little) but i still think ts2 is the best
I guess TS2 is better bacause the sims sit in a more realistic way 🙄 the game is empty as hell, there's barely anything to do. Barely no objects, barely any activities, the fears are wacky (like why are they all still freaking out over bugs), there's barely anything to do in the public lots but I guess the Pizza slice slops, oh wow.
The cheating animation was awesome! When I cheated on someone in Sims 2 and heard that POOOOIMMM sound, I trembled. Then broken hearts and fire symbols appeared, followed by slaps in the face and sim's relationship photo turned red. The betrayed sim stayed furious for days and kicked the trash can at every opportunity. It was a true tragedy to cheat on someone, with a heavy emotional weight.
@@ihavecrabs56They don't need to completely remove reactions though. The slap can be removed, they can just have the Sim yell at the person - which is really real to do and not abusive if you just got cheated on. They didn't have to make the guy just be silently disappointed.
How do Sims in Sims 4 do ANYTHING without touching knobs, drawers, doors and taps? I cannot with plates just jumping from the floor/table right into Sims hands. Did Don just CLAPPED while Cassandra is kissing Darren? Oh Sims 4, you are just slow. Yeah we buy clothes by taking the clothes OFF a mannequin. So realistic lol. Pizza is Sims 2 is still the best one in the series.
Especially the cooking animation! So much more realistic to grab a utensil out of a drawer while prepping rather than a knife just appearing and the sim slap-chopping it all over the place
Sims in TS2 have so much detail and nuance in their animations too, depending on their personality. For example you showed Darren eating the chips and shoving them into his mouth, but Sims who are very neat will daintily take the chip out and hold it between their thumb and forefinger and place it deliberately in their mouth, like they’re avoiding crumbs.
Yes!!! And like sims who are sloppy don’t make their bed unless you tell them to. and when they do that spin when undressing they do it super lazily. They will let the bathroom & counters get dirty if you don’t make them clean it they don’t even really care about getting bugs from leaving things out besides maybe being a lil annoyed. They might not even know if someone else takes care of it. Whereas neat sims will roll fear of getting bugs even if their lot is clean. if bugs ever show up on their lot they are like first to run to stomp them & that memory would stay with them for a few days. after extermination they will think about it & cry!!! but what I think really shows how much care went into this is sims who fall in the middle of “sloppy” and “neat” really are somewhere in the middle and it’s completely unpredictable! It’s not 50/50 it’s like for example I’ve noticed in my game those sims could typically make their bed most days/put away their dishes, but if they are in a bad mood they are not as likely to do these tasks. Like it’s so realistic!!! And sometimes neat sims get irritated at sloppy sims for being sloppy but sometimes they seem totally fine to clean after their roommate. lol a family I am currently playing when the two roommates eat together, one is stuffing their face so fast that food is flying everywhrre everywhere n the other is so polite and composed. but they are literally besties!. I just love that you really never know! Idk why I went on a rant lol but I have actually never seen the gameplay side to side like this before that really shocked me how different sims 4 is! I’ve never actually played it.
Sims4 is already 10 years old and still going strong. Where is Sims2 and it's nostalgic animations? Stuck in a time warp on your personal pc... y'all are a sad group of indies. Stuck in a nostalgic cloud that is Sims2. LMAO
I remember loving how sweet the cuddling in bed was with couples in TS2. And winter in TS2 is far superior; I loved the animation of the sims walking in deep snow! I miss a lot of the special child animations, like sitting on chairs that was shown in the video, but also them running off the school bus to show their parent(s) their report card if they got good grades and running to hug their parent when they came home from work. I was also so surprised how lackluster the witches were in TS4. In TS2, there was so much detail and branching paths you could take with your witch sims - and the fact that witches came with apartments was mindblowing.
4:59..... Uh.... are we supposed to assume that she shoplifted whatever tf that was, smuggled it up her cooter, and then awkwardly and most uncomfortably made her way out of the door hoping no one would notice? Because that's exactly what it looks like.
This was great to bring to players attention. I would love it if you did a video showing how often EA used that "swipe" animation in TS4 and what animation they got rid of from TS2. I have always hated how lazy EA is with TS4.
@@bullianas it's the one where they do a "swipe" animation with their hands when they're like removing items, picking up a plate, anything magically disappears when they do that and it's used over and over
I know we're talking about the Sims 2 obliterating 4, but don't get me started on the embarrassment that is The Sims 4 soundtrack compared to the Sims 1 build/buy mode tracks which are GOATED for life!!
I really crave a Sims game combinging TS2 and TS3, imagine the quality of life in animations, the huge worlds (open world too) different types of lots, the crazy packs like back to the future etc. real relationships. I remember playing TS3 for days on end as a teenager, always something to do with a single pack. I can't spend more then 20 minutes on TS4 without wanting to vomit, its boring, no quaility of life, bland interactions, no personality. Not even mods can make the game as good as TS2 and TS3. When paralives and other games come out, I'm completely ditching The Sims forever, the fact they thought this absolute trash of a game would go anywhere baffles me. Only think I really care about more in TS4 is how easy it is to place roofs now.
I'd say that it's somewhere in between... But they did use TS2 asthetics (models and anims), so it has more of a TS2 feel... Cooking, for example, in TS3 is a bit more detailed, because it uses the ingredients from recipes. I do wish they had open shops, like in TS2 instead of the grocery, bookstore and spa rabbitholes, and that they'd've opened the restaurant rabbitholes for ambitions instead of (or in addition to, but if we had to choose one...) the enhanced medical career...
I'm a huge Sims 3 player, I played a lot of Sims 2 as well but on PS2, not PC, so I don't really know the differences. And I play Sims 4 a little bit, and as the previous answer said : The Sims 3 is in between, it's still have some TS2 great animations, but also some dull ones (like playing chess it just moves randomly). I think that's why I love TS3 this much, it wasn't like TS2, but was still way better than TS4. I miss the open world, cars, and most importantly : the customisation in TS3 is the best we ever had. I was disappointed A LOT the first time I played TS4 on that point. If we ever have a TS5 one day, I hope they'll take in consideration what peoples miss the most, and bring it back in their game. (I can still hope I guess ?)
TS3 skimped a little on animations, yeah, but it does still have a lot of the important stuff. Plus, each expansion pack gives you TONS of stuff to do. That, combined with the open world, elevates it in my eyes. Granted, I've barely played TS2 and refuse to touch TS4, so I can't properly compare LOL
The attention to detail in 2 actually surprised me when I played it recently. Sims actually using an animation to get in cars? Them driving the car out of the parking spot? So good. And the I thought would this be possible in 3 and I'd argue no, not without looking like your car crashes every second. And probably leggy af.
When you send your sims to work, even when you cant see your sims career in the sims 2, sometimes you will have to take decissions that can afecta your sims' career, relationships or skill points. In the sims 4 you just wait for your sim to appear on the lot again. The sims 2 go to work in a car that upgrades as your sim gets promoted, and gets back home in it. If your sim has children in the sims 2, they will go and hug their parent when they arrive home from work. The Kids go to school on a school bus and say hi to the driver, go back home on the bus and show their parents their good grades. Every single detail is so crucial in the sims 2 to make it a timeless funny and wholesome game.
@@adrianblake8876 The chance cards for careers suck, they are more like “option” cards. In the Sims 2, the prompt didn’t include a warning as to the consequences, and the outcome for each was random. It was like the chance prompts that show up in the Sims 4 during holidays such as Love Day; you can choose the same option but you’ll get either a positive or a negative outcome each time.

Sims 4 feels so uninteractable. Like, your sim will just stand in front of most things with no animations. When you have conversations with people none of the topics feel different from one another because they're the same three recycled animations. It's like your sim is a ghost.
5:55 is the crux of all this. TS2 just had more love and care put into it. It also has MOVING HAIR. 9:45 with all due respect to TS2, TS3 is the one that excelled in object customization.
It's kinda funny. TS1 had no object customization, TS2 had good customization, TS3's customization blows every other game's out of the water... and TS4 is barely a step up from TS1. Lol. Lmao.

As someone who only played TheSims 1, I'm honestly shocked at how good TheSims 2 is, never actually looked into it, but they really put a lot lof love into the game.
Paralives, Inzoi and Life By You are all upcoming hopefully sometime in the next year. Who knows how they'll stack up but they can't be worse than Sims 4.
@@King-Omega- I'm looking forward to all of these games, but still, The Sims was once a VIBE, and nothing else can ever replicate it, even if they end up having their own
Another huge detail that only existed in sims 2 was water physics!! When they jumped in the pool, all of the water is affected. Never realized how motionless the pools in sims 4 are until I saw a side-by-side comparison
I remember watching a chess match between my sims in TS2, I spent so much time weirdly intrigued by it and paying attention to every move they did. To see the state TS4 was brought to life (or to the lack of it) drives me insane.
the sims 4 is absolutely insufferable without mods at this point, it's so sad that the sims franchise took such a big dive after the sims 3 and sims 2 being far ahead of their time periods. EA sucks
I have t played The Sims 2 in years but this makes me miss it so much. That game just had so much life. It sucks that modders are the only thing kept the Sims 4 going for me. It seems like The Sims 4 is developed from the perspective of being a building game. That’s where the team puts most of their efforts.
Damn, it's really a shame. The Sims 2 doesn't just have so much more personality, but if I remember correctly, much more conflict. Sims didn't just click with your characters like in Sims 4, sometimes they just didn't like you. Death was a lot more prevalent. There was somewhat a sense of challenge. I tell a lot of my friends that Sims 4 sort of feels like a doll house, and a very bare one at that.
I had more fun with Sims 2 because it felt a lot more immersive and relatable thanks to the detailed animations. The little, subtle things make a huge difference!
It's delusional to think that animators and asset creators made all this grueling work with "passion and love". The gaming industry simply had better standards way back, this was the norm. Back in the age of Sims 2 social media was still in toddler shoes, game companies and publishers had to actually produce quality content in order to gain profit. There is no need to romanticize the gaming industry.
These videos are so important. I get lowkey a bit irritated when I see people defending TS4 and then they go onto say it’s the only one they’ve played in the series. And they make up a lot of the player base. The more people either forget or just don’t know how good it used to be allow EA to basically continue making Sims shovelware games…
I see a lot of people claim we only prefer sims2 because of nostalgia and they refuse to look any further. yeah I'm plenty nostalgic but I also have legit reasons..
THIS is the reason why I get MAD when people defend The Sims 4. I mean, you can see that there's literally no effort at all. And this game is SO FREAKING EXPENSIVE, it's the most expensive game in the entire WORLD. They take advantage of the fact that the majority of the player base plays The Sims 4 and The Sims 4 only, so they don't have any reference to know what a good game looks like. That's what irritates me the most, EA managed to keep this unfinished and unpolished game alive for 9 freaking years, while milking their fan base and taking every single cent out of them. I downloaded a cracked version to play when I'm feeling like it and I don't regret it one bit, not going to give my hard earned money to this disgusting company. We are talking about a 20 year old game beating a recent and "modern" game. The Sims 2 FTW.
if simmers buy a less well made game and they still make bank why would they even care? Blame the sims 4 only simmers who buy every pack even if its crap
It's because the team for ts2 was different than the ones from ts4. Also, it was still maxis now it's only EA and the downgrade is significant. The sims 2 was made with care while the sims 4 was made with money in mind only.
@@katet8639 I know right....sims 4 will never get better, infant update? more like annoying glitchy babies, toddler update? again glitchy toddlers which are annoying to look after, the only thing fun about sims 4 is build mode but tbh you can do almost everything in sims 3 and somewhat 2 you just need to put cheatcodes on.

1.2K likes and no commentary, let me fix that
Not to mention spouses with similar interests would resolve an argument while only suffering a minor relationship penalty, compared to those who had little in common.
The puddles are so creepy, once my whole lot filled with weeds and i had to call a gardener to help! I guess that was payback from drowning her.

The Sims 2 was made entirely by Maxis. Also, considering how hard hand and finger animations are to animate (to this day), shame on EA for reasons too many to count.

On point!
Also they should’ve never switched to a cartoony style!
I was watching a doc on it and it may have to do with the fact it was originally an online multiplayer game. Doesn’t excuse the fact but bet it was cutting corners cause it wasn’t originally meant to be a game the way it is today
Hence the amount of "interactive" caves now where all you do is read text lol
But if the game had a special unique animation for each aspect, the loading screen would be longer than sims 3 !!!!

So sad what happened to all the Maxis games. Both The Sims and SimCity were destroyed. I’ve been playing The Sims since day one.

Pretty sure you can inherit from grandparents in sims 3 and 4, but I do agree the real genetics should come back
@@Ilivepuppys In The Sims 3, there's a small chance that traits such as hair color will be pulled from a grandparent, but it's random rather than via alleles and thus can result in situations you wouldn't get in real life (e.g. two natural blondes having a child with black hair).
Yes! I had two black haired sims have a blond child. I was confused, but looked in the family tree to see that both black haired parents had one blond parent each, meaning they both gave their recessive trait. I love the genetics details and accuracy,

9:23 that pizza is a perfect representation of what it's like comparing the sims 2 and the "sims" 4

@@flaekonAgreed. I wouldn't mind if it also change color and textures like the Sims 3.
@@slpm3253and also the ridiculous cartoon style that the sims 4 has. I hope they use unreal engine for the sims 5!

@adrianblake8876 "the only person" as if werent other that the crestor himself and the most important part of the team
You can download it for free on the sims 2 subreddit :)
If that's what TS2 looked like in 2004, imagine what TS4 could've looked like if the same effort went into it...
No way, closing the kitchen drawer with hip detail is insane... 😮
the chess game was mind blowing to me, when I first noticed I spent god knows how much time watching my sims play against each other. The horse, looks like a horse, AND MOVES LIKE A HORSE. The sims 2 is just perfect.
Even better -- in The Sims 1, the moves were strictly mapped to real movies. Will Wright was a stickler for it.
What I really love about the sims 2 is that you can tell they took their time with the animations. As for sims 4 it just doesn’t look realistic, lacks emotion, and detail ugh. I miss the sims 2 bring it back! 😭

Then all the invited Sims started sitting down. They'll even sit according to who they came with or related to, and they'll stay seated until the ceremony is over.
Some even cry and wipe their noses..it's hilarious.

all this and the idiots on the sims reddit will still claim that nostalgia is the only reason people say ts2 is better than ts4
It’s really funny too cuz for a lot of fans of ts2, we never really stopped playing so there is no nostalgia. It’s just a better game.

Sims 4 defenders are delulu
I guess TS2 is better bacause the sims sit in a more realistic way 🙄 the game is empty as hell, there's barely anything to do. Barely no objects, barely any activities, the fears are wacky (like why are they all still freaking out over bugs), there's barely anything to do in the public lots but I guess the Pizza slice slops, oh wow.
the difference between these two games is that The Sims 2 was made with love
Probably because maxis and will wringt worked on it and didnt just see it as a soulless way to make money

Sims 2 giving life lessons right there...
thats becaues the game would get cancelled for fetishizing and promoting phyiscal abuse

The Sims 4 was made without basic things like the swimming pools that only came with a free update, the toddlers that only came in 2017 and much more!

Yeah the knobs situation in TS4 simply drives me crazy 😂
The sims 2 pizza actually looks delicious.

It's so good to finally see other people talking about this as well, thank you for making this kind of videos

The woman in Sims 4 legit looks like she straight up shoplifted.
This was great to bring to players attention. I would love it if you did a video showing how often EA used that "swipe" animation in TS4 and what animation they got rid of from TS2. I have always hated how lazy EA is with TS4.

The Sims 1 music is timeless and iconic.
I legit still listen to those soundtracks. Meanwhile I dont even remember what the Sims 4 sounds like on the top of my head
Sims 3's soundtrack is swell as well. I still have the build mode themes AND a few of the radio songs stuck in my head all these years later.
No wonder I could play ts2 for days while only buildmode can get me to play ts4 for more than a couple of hours. Sad
Someone show this video to the developers of The Sims 4 for the love of God!!!
4:23 You forgot the part where everybody stood up and walked off mid ceremony
The Sims 4 is really good for building houses and dressing people up. Other than that, though? It has the absolute bare minimum to qualify as a game.
I’d like to see a comparison to the Sims 3! I know it stepped down in a lot of detail aspects, but I’d like to see the comparison
Honestly sims 3 was less detailed but I'm not sure it wouldn't have ended up as a slideshow with more.
The attention to detail in 2 actually surprised me when I played it recently. Sims actually using an animation to get in cars? Them driving the car out of the parking spot? So good. And the I thought would this be possible in 3 and I'd argue no, not without looking like your car crashes every second. And probably leggy af.
i like how she actually picks up the plate. some of the anims in 4 are kinda not full anims :O

It's like the Sims 2 is supposed to be a life sim instead of you just controlling a robot
I remember that if you placed flowering shrubs on your lot, over time, they would attract butterflies.
and shrubs got overgrown and needed tending too! i miss that
When you send your sims to work, even when you cant see your sims career in the sims 2, sometimes you will have to take decissions that can afecta your sims' career, relationships or skill points.
There are chance cards in The Sims4 as well, though...
But the lack of vehicles in TS4 breaks it hard...

And ea wanna layoff employees? They need more animators😭
I've always felt that the Sims 4 graphics are really blurry and pixelated. The Sims 2 looks so crisp and clear in comparison.
I had more fun with Sims 2 because it felt a lot more immersive and relatable thanks to the detailed animations. The little, subtle things make a huge difference!
This just makes yourealize how much love went into the developement of TS2. You can see that the team was clearly passionate about this project.
It's delusional to think that animators and asset creators made all this grueling work with "passion and love". The gaming industry simply had better standards way back, this was the norm. Back in the age of Sims 2 social media was still in toddler shoes, game companies and publishers had to actually produce quality content in order to gain profit.

I like how even in a race a sim from TS2 would beat one from the TS4
This is what happens when a for profit company buys a game from a company with good intentions
Sims 2 was made with so much love 😭💚

They wanted one game for phone, console and pc and multi-player
if simmers buy a less well made game and they still make bank why would they even care? Blame the sims 4 only simmers who buy every pack even if its crap
It's because the team for ts2 was different than the ones from ts4. Also, it was still maxis now it's only EA and the downgrade is significant. The sims 2 was made with care while the sims 4 was made with money in mind only.
