This was my first quilt box. I love love love Primitive Gatherings. The wool box last month was AMAZING! I have to say I was a little disappointed in this one. I was looking forward to the ongoing project. Lisa had a sample block and the fabrics looked bright and cheerful. I guess I got different fabrics because all I could think of when I opened my box was old thimble berry fabrics. I did like the other projects but probably won't make them because I'm doing Temecula Quilt Co. Mini quilt of the month. C+
A Golden Rotary Award, you are so creative and fun! C (average) for me, the style of the ongoing project fabrics are wild together. I'd curious to see the end result. The other projects are okay and the fabric okay for stashing if the projects aren't of interest. Not bad for $45, and not for me.
To me, the box was well curated for the “crafter” I don’t know how to cross stitch, but, I can only imagine how expensive it would be for personalized box. Thanks for sharing.
Ummmm....wow. That was a bit of a rough start to the battle of the boxes. While I get that you can't please everyone, this box felt all over the place to me. If I had ordered it I would want to sit down right away and create something right away. With this box I'd be creating a list of all the things I need to complete everything. The "bright spot" finishes at 18x18 and really should have had the FQ included so you could at least make the top. I love me a good scrappy quilt but wow- those fabrics had my eye brows clear up to my hair line! LOL I have no wall space for little things to hang so for me that is a miss....and although I am happy to see patterns included IN the box, I am with you that they need to be upfront that the blocks are ongoing and require a commitment on my part for a certain length of time. (otherwise I feel like you've tricked me into it). This is a small family owned business and I'm sure this box would thrill many quilters out there...but sadly I am not a fan. Because I could use the fabric as 'stash builder'....I will give it a C. Sorry
You said it " I would want to sit down right away and create something right away." that's how I feel about subscription boxes. Not complete something because you always have to get backing and batting. But sit down and begin on SOMETHING. Especially if it's really cute and I get excited about it.
I love the golden rotary cutter award! I liked the yellow and gray charm pack. It seems like they should have included a fat quarter for the one project. So I guess I would give the box a B-
I hand quilt as well. I would give the box a B. I would not be disappointed that I didn't receive it. I don't think I've seen any box you reviewed include the background fabric. Maybe I'm wrong and just don't remember. I've been wrong before and no doubt will be again.😂
B+. Liked all the fabric. Lisa’s sew alongs are always fun with unexpected results at the end. The notion industry is stuck on making a useful binding tool. Don’t need one or want another one. Primitive Gathering binding needles are the best and only ones I use.
Hi Holly. Happy to see this video. I’d give this box a ‘C’. I’m over cross stitch because I have a storage unit full of cross stitch and needle work. So wouldn’t even look at the pattern. And the fabric is not to my taste, which runs to batiks and florals. I’m very glad you’re doing battle of the boxes again.
I made the bright spot pattern. I think it is going to be a pillow. She has been up front about the ongoing project on her videos and blog so I expected that and have purchased what I need. I do love her patterns and fabrics and videos. I have learned so much from them. I’ve been to the shop and it is amazing but I get what you said about the website. The customer service from this company is amazing. If you join in the middle of the year they will help you get caught up on the ongoing project. I’d give the box a B. But the carmels get an A+!
Loretta thanks for this perspective! I usually do a lot of research before I subscribe to anything and I have not looked into this company. I’m so happy to hear that as a small family owned business they do take pride in their products. Also I love your idea to turn the small wall hangings into cushions! Brilliant!
I think for the price this box does well. I usually sock up for back ground fabric. With as much as this box gives to give you all the background fabric it keeps the price down. It’s not filled with a bunch of notions that would never use
I loved the fabric!!! Would never do the cross stitch and have no use for the needles and the binding spool thingy. That might go on the wall as a decor piece rather than using it as a functional quilting piece, in my craft room anyway. I'd have preferred a few more Carmels instead of the above, LOL! Also, would have preferred backing material for the small projects. But having said all of that I really really liked the material (which most times I do not as I'm an earth tones kind of girl) and I would definitely make the projects, so a solid B from me. ❤️
I would give it a B because that binding tool is useless. I wind binding around my hand until I'm ready to attach it. If something is required to be used instead, an empty TP roll is a better choice because it can be placed on a thread spindle to wind off of as the binding is being attached. Just my opinion!
Primitive Gathering will have a new site hopefully soon. There is a RUclips video with the finished one year project. Don't remember which one. I received the wool box there have been complaints that people would rather choose their own background and not liking the background fabric provided. I agree there should be a project that is complete with all fabric but that also lowers the number of projects that are provided. I think the cross stitch should have provided the fabric and threads. When total up the cost for what is provided does it meet your expectations? I really love Lisa's videos and teaching techniques.
Good morning to you MS holly ,love the headband today😍 I love Corey Yoder but I am not a fan of yellow ,as far as on going project, I have plenty lol 🙆 thanks again for sharing ,RATING OF BOX C
The fabric is different in my Primitive Gatherings subscription box. Maybe they pulled fabric that didn’t sell to use it up. I really like Lisa’s quilts and projects so I have hope that the on going project will be something I’m happy with. But, that does mean I have to keep getting the box for the entire year. Love your videos! I give it a B.
This box would be a C for me. I agree that an ongoing project to rope you in is not what I expect from a monthly or bi-monthly box. I am doing the creative cuts mystery box this year and I love this idea. But its marketed as such. TFS
A few minor changes would have increased the value of the box a lot for me. It would have been fairly inexpensive to include a small piece of crossstitch fabric and thread. That would have made it really fun for me because as a non-crossstitcher, I would have sat down and tried that right away. Another addition could be an alternate pattern for the yearlong fabric, even if it was just a small tablerunner made of all hsts, even if it only used some of the fabric. This would encourage me to use it. The boxes that don’t include background fabric should give customers an option to have it included for an additional charge. Shipping is so expensive that ordering it separately becomes problematic.
I would give B, the background fabric should have been included for the small projects. Floss for the cross stitch definitely. Surprised they aren't using their fabrics..... Primitive Gatherings dies have some nice fabric.
3 projects nothing that can be completed without background fabric. Maybe cut a notion and add the fat quarter. Just my thought. I love the cross stitch. The binder holder or needles can go. Lol but if I did get this box and wanted to do something with it and had a zipper I would make a mini zipper pouch with the mini charm pack. Lol C + for me
I started this box this month also. The small projects are a trial in my opinion. I have mini charms and may make more of that project for a bed runner or a baby quilt. The amount of extra fabrics is not much except yearly project(the fabric is scrappy so go to stash and pull similar colors to reach the amount needed. Quilters are creative.
I agree with another Wish who said the fat quarter should be included. I like the patterns. I think I would make an 18" pillow before I made a wall hanging. I'd rather have more fabric toward a bigger quilt than so many tiny quilts. Pretty fabrics for the precuts but the other fabrics were not appealing to me at all. I don't want to buy 7 yards of fabric for a mystery project that takes a year. I don't mind the notions--I like the binding tool as I would like to make my binding in advance and store it to have ready once the quilt is done. Solid B for me.
It’s a B for me. I would t least like one full size quilt project. I liked the fabric in the charm pack and mini but not the block of the month. Although I do love an ongoing project.
Hello there! This is my first time voting. So exciting!! I have been a subscriber to this box since the beginning. So far I've liked them but like other comments made, I don't know why cross stitch is included in a quilt box. This is wasted on me; I don't cross stitch. I like the notions this time around. Not cheap and can be useful. I like the patterns and charm pack. (Good idea to suggest a background fabric be included on a small project.) Some of the QAL fabric provided will be incorporated in my stash; what I don't like will be donated. I give this box a B+.
It's a C for me. I would be so disappointed opening a box but not have one project I could do right then. Half the fun of these is getting a project with everything you need.
C for me Positives: Fabric and patterns are cute Any Cory Yoder fabric you can get your hands on is a win/win! Negatives: 7 yards of background fabric? 7 yards! No thanks! Way too much negative space. My other pet peeve, they couldn’t throw in a 1/4 yd needed for background for that Cory Yoder project? Maybe ditch the hand binding neeedles?
I surprisingly liked the fabrics, but as a person with minimal stash available, I'd have to spend extra time and money to complete the bigger projects. I'd rather have fewer projects and more fabric. At least enough to finish the smaller tops. The yearly QAL is a separate issue. Solid B overall.
Would rate this box a B. Enjoyed the fabric flip-through (my favorite part of the box-opening!). Agree with many of your other commenters that it can be a hindrance having to source additional fabrics for the background, backing, and binding, but also understand that the seller is probably doing it this way to keep the overall cost of the box affordable. Maybe the seller could include the background fabric for at least one of the projects in the box, so the purchaser of the box can get started on something right away? It would also help if the seller would provide specific recommendations for the backing and binding fabrics their testers chose, or offer finishing kits recipients could order as add-ones for the projects they intend to actually complete (if they don’t have stash to pull from or ready access to a local quilt store.
I’m undecided I think the value was there, would rather have gotten all the fabric for 1 small project then a bit of each. I liked both patterns. The cross stitch was random and if the had left it out they could have added the fat quarter to the mini project The notions were not exciting to me but most boxes don’t hit on notions, I think I already have too much quilt stuff. B-
Not getting background fabric included is ok with me. I like to decide what color to use for background. A year long project is a QAL. Binding tool is not for me…. Liked the yellow/gray pattern for a scrap buster. B
I think there were a lot of projects but not enough of anything to finish a project. If I am going to spend $45 I'd like to at least have a great start on it and with all these projects you have a lot of fabric to buy, especially the larger quilt that you need 7 yds, that's a lot of fabric to me for not being able to pick my own pattern and fabrics choices. It's a C to me I"m not over the moon about Primative Gatherings
You were very kind, i say C. It is ridiculous to not even have one whole project or at least the whole block for the ongoing project. I think it would be better if they deleted one of the projects and had enough fabric to at least do the top or the whole block. Some of us want to start right away and to have to possibly shop is annoying. I do like the ongoing yearly project though where you will have a big quilt at the end (if you dont like it just cancel the box) I get the wool box, do not like this years (well it is a 2 year) project so i cancelled....
I love Primitive Gatherings. But I will not order the quilt box because it includes cross stitch. I do not cross stitch and I cant understand why quilt shops assume all quilters cross stitch. f for me
I watched this one while taking care of the chickens. My girls and I weren't impressed with this box. I'm not a fan of the sixties-esque fabric. While I'm an avid cross stitcher, I don't want them in a quilt box. I expect to have to supply stuff to finish ONE project in a box, but I don't like having to do it for MULTIPLE projects in each box. My hens and I discussed it, and we give it a solid C. The fact that the patterns were actually in the box boosted the score.
@Holly Schmidt my spoiled girls love any kind of melon! I have 20 hens, and all of them have attitude! The quilty boxes will have to do better to impress them. 🤣
I really like the box and I get this box...but I am really thinking about discontinuing it and getting another. You get nice projects but you have to invest so much more to complete each of them and I really can't afford it. I'd rather less projects but a more complete box. I also don't care for the cross stitch. It's another project you need to invest in. I don't have the threads for it.
I give this box a C. They could have left out the cross stitch and included the background for the smallest project. I can understand why they don't include background for larger projects, some people like light, some dark and some like a color.
This is a confusing box. There isn’t a complete project in it. I have scrap fabric coming out my ears, so I don’t need more, and this feels like a scrap fabric box. I like the that there is a cross stitch pattern, but it would’ve been nice if it was a complete kit. The notions are the best part of the the box. I think a C is being generous based on my own preferences and needs. I think the box started with some great ideas, but didn’t properly deliver what is needed to execute them. I’ve recently come across your videos and I like that you have a checklist for value. I am enjoying them.😊
I would give them a C-. I agree that the backing for the smaller projects should of been included. I don’t like BOM’s and for $45 every other month the project should be spectacular and it is not.
I personally don't get this box. I did like the small projects. Would like to have background fabric included with the small projects. I do like the Corey Yoder fabric very much. I am in the process of using this very line in a project. I give it a B
When you first opened this box, there was no tissue paper. Most of these boxes add that fluff, so that is different, but no deal breaker. The second thing I noticed was the size of the box vs contents. The box was kind of empty. Needles, binding buddy, a mini charm and a charm pack. 2 patterns. the value of the c ontents of this box really, you might as well just buy the stuff….no saving deal with this bundle. The fabrics in the carousel seem like modern meets civil war…those just dont go together 🤮 I rate it a D
I got this one too. I thought it. deserved a C. I don't like that you can't finish a project with the supplied fabrics. I also didn't like that every thing is so small. I don't do tiny quilts.
Honestly I wasn't impressed with this one. It seemed like while there were many fabrics included they were all tiny cuts and the patterns were for very small decoration only quilts. I think my favorite thing in the box was either the Cory Yoder charm pack or the binding spool. I could really use one of those and have never gotten one in any of my boxes.
I’d give it a C. It would be quite an investment to have to go back and order all the stuff needed to finish the projects. And no floss with the cross stitch. Really?? Not one thing u can finish…
First off, it’s labeled the February box but you received it at the end of April. Then the references 2023 at the end of the letter, really? It’s 2024.
F vote from me. That font on the info sheet is annoying lol. I have no use for the binding tool (my preference) and no use for the cross stitch pattern. Not having background fabric or the fat quarter needed for an EIGHTEEN INCH project is just stingy in my opinion. The 24x24 same. Those are tiny projects which are cute but having just the charm packs...nah. Beginners getting project boxes probably don't have a stash to pull from and after spending 45 to have to go out and spend that much again or more for such small projects is a big no for me. Same with the Carousel. Go buy more fabric before you can do the project which is part of a project that you have to collect all of the boxes and hope you have bought enough background to last for every box? Gets expensive! Problematic box. Fabric is pretty though we have to take in to consideration that you didn't like the feel of the Carousel fabric. So if you purchase and choose not to do the projects which happens sometimes, is there $45 worth of fabric? Considering you get what they send and don't take $45 to a fabric store and pick it out yourself (as boxes do) I'm thinking the value isn't there.
As for the cross stitch, this is a QUILT box, cross stitch is too hard for me with my eyes and if you sign up for quilting who wants cross stitch?! I am changing this to a C-
I'm trying hard to find something nice to say about this one. I liked a few of the fabrics, and the caramels looked tasty. The needles were a good choice of notion; you can never have enough needles. Um. Yeah, I'm sorry, this box feels like a money grab to me. If one is paying $40+ for a project box, it's not unreasonable to expect to get at least one complete project in there. At the very least the background fabrics should have been included, and a bit of floss for the cross stitch project too. I went to the website, and it seems like they aren't doing this box anymore? I hope you at least got everything you needed to make the ongoing project since posting this video. It would be awful to get partway through a quilt and then not be able to finish.
I find it disappointing that the cross stitch did NOT have the floss. What if someone doesn't have any floss? They would have to spend a bunch of money on several of them when they only needs a fraction of the skein. Also, all of the projects only have the charm pack. None of them are complete projects (all fabric except backing). I would have been happier with the fat quarters and one less item. For the ongoing project, there really isn't that much fabric. What were those fat 8ths or less? The project requires 7 yards of background you have to buy? Seems very lopsided. I'm not that impressed. I give it a "C+".
I'm not a fan of this box. You have a lot of partial project but can't complete anything. I'd rather have one project that has at least the quilt top completed. I'm also not a fan of the fabric for the carousel project and that would be all year 🙈 Of course, to be fair, I am not a 'primitive' fabric fan at all.
A bunch of small or little projects …. and you have to add your own materials to make each one! The candy and notions do not make up for the price of this box! Sorry, not a fan of this box at all. Grade: D
I really enjoy your honesty when opening the subscription boxes.
Thank you Holly.
Holly I have never seen a box yet that gives the background fabric. I do a lot of times see the binding included
I give it a B because I like the fabrics and the patterns.

I’m with you on your comments, Tanya. Several projects but need to buy lots to even get started. C is the most I am willing to give.

Not getting background fabric included is ok with me. I like to decide what color to use for background. A year long project is a QAL. Binding tool is not for me…. Liked the yellow/gray pattern for a scrap buster. B

First box. I give it a B-. I am not excited to commit to a quilt needing 7 yards of background fabric and I have no idea what it would look like.
I’m underwhelmed. I had high hopes for this box because I really like Lisa. I’d take one less project to get more to finish one of the others.
I was a little disappointed in the projects. I would like to see enough fabric to complete 1. I liked the notions. I would give it a C.
Give your hens a little extra of whatever hens love from me. I love chickens!!
@Holly Schmidt my spoiled girls love any kind of melon! I have 20 hens, and all of them have attitude! The quilty boxes will have to do better to impress them. 🤣
This one would be a solid C for me. Too much fabric you would need to purchase to complete the projects, and I'm not one for the year long project.
C for me. There was nothing there that excited me or made me want to do those project. Fabric was ok, but not anything I would purchase.
I would give this box a C. Too much extra fabric to buy. Not everyone does cross stitch.
I haven’t seen any other reviews for Primitive Gatherings appreciate your honesty. I rated this box at a C. disappointed.
I'm going with a C. Nothing you can start in there without background and worse, a project you get dribs and drabs of over a year. Not for me.
First off, it’s labeled the February box but you received it at the end of April. Then the references 2023 at the end of the letter, really? It’s 2024.
Gets a c from me. Not a lot of fabric unfortunately.
GM. For the price and not even 1 project able to complete from the box. I would give a C
This is a no for me. D
I wasn't thrilled with the box. I would give it a C but I am also not a fan of primitive themes.
Not my cup of tea. I wouldn’t use any of it besides the binding needles. My vote is a C.
Oh no way! It’s not supposed to be a BOM club is it? It wasn’t marketed as a BOM, that’s sort of entrapment. F!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm not a fan of this box. You have a lot of partial project but can't complete anything. I'd rather have one project that has at least the quilt top completed. I'm also not a fan of the fabric for the carousel project and that would be all year 🙈 Of course, to be fair, I am not a 'primitive' fabric fan at all.
Not my favorite. Maybe a b
Primitive Gatherings is a C.The lack of a background fabric for everything is a turn off.
This box didn’t excite me. C
Not to my liking! You cannot complete anything unless you have background fabric in your stash or take a trip to the fabric store. A “C” for me.
Id give this box a C. It’s just not for me
This oñr gorgeous mr is a no. The colors aren't appealing. Having yo ho Nd buy fabric right out the gate is to much.
Not worth the money. It would be better to have a complete project instead of 3 half started projects, Imo
A bunch of small or little projects …. and you have to add your own materials to make each one! The candy and notions do not make up for the price of this box! Sorry, not a fan of this box at all. Grade: D
Too expensive for nothing
Not impressed.I like Corey's fabric. Don't care for the patterns.
