Double (and more) tracking vocals along with a little (or a LOT) of reverb / echo has been common for recording singers forever. We hear it more now since we entered the digital age and not because its being used more (maybe it is / isn't) but the quality of playback electronics are so much better now. When we used to listen to 45 rpm records back in the 50s and 60s, the 'needle' was more like a nail so you didn't hear much of the lower volume stuff. Check out the 'isolated vocal' or 'vocals removed' etc audios here on youtube and you will get a better idea of what tricks they used in the studio to bring up the sound quality of singers. Heres a simple sample/explanation: ruclips.net/video/qhaWVi9tjgI/видео.html
It is Morrison who sings. His voice changed a lot during 6 years of his career. Compare his voice from 1st and 6th album. On L.A. Woman he sings much lower then on the Doors album.
Yeah this one is sped up a whole step as well. Back then new bands use to go crazy with the speed variation knob on the machine because they thought it made them sound better, the Beatles even did that, but when they played live they realized pretty quick they didn't sound the same as the record so they stopped. This is definitely playing too fast though. The Doors played this song in G, in this recording it's in A so you would have to slow it down a whole step using a program like Audacity to get the actual recording. Ha, I just did it, NOW it sounds exactly like Jim, he sounds really nervous, damn this must have been like the very first time he sang with a band
its not sped up at all. they recorded it in A, simple as that. listen to the other 5 songs recorded during this session, including "Hello I Love You", also in A. Morrison's voice sounds exactly the same as on this. there was no varispeed used on this. nobody was doing that in '65
so her I am in Europe and the people are rich and have history I want to keep the band together the drummer want the band to break up are first contracts suck so we gonna do a live album to get out of the contract..we at a party and we find a studio musican in Europe a professional singer who got lawyers and music connections so after two alums with james or stage name morreison we sorta got james drunk stoned and ousted him out of the band ..are first lead singer still got revenue for wrtieng 3 songs on the album last I herd he was in los angeles writeing poetry but Morrison had alittle to much peyote ...the doors hired a two song writers to finish the first album which had a more pop song love song album it was a collection of other peoples music but an cover songs later dubbed Alabama song was left off the album in the states
so morrsion off the and out of the band and we hired a European songer who had stage prescence later on the doors first singer had a fan club religious and sober living they scereen all interviews and contract the doors first contrct wasn't cool later jim got or james got royalitys for 3 songs...but the people around la were making fun of james as has been while his mnusic was being played in Europe wher eamerican bands were huge and getting payed 10 times more from a older richier class of people money from the world war 2 war machine was making people rich the war was over but the companies were produceing remember in England 80 years for drugs in the states 40 years for drugs new York schools had England teachers and could fly to Europe for school California collages was music and arts people in new York thought of California people as lower james runs into a rich collage student who saw james and California boys as sex toys or sex kittens people were mean in those days she later tried to contact jim but her and jim got busted back stage making love so james had a warrant for making love in a public place later on james lawyer got the charges dropped each state each city had their government and cops
Mrclgreen Be okay if it was in tune. It's not, it's flat compared to the other instruments. And it's elementary in every aspect, very elementary if you know what a good harmonica player sounds like. I could duplicate that in two weeks, haven't ever played one, guarantee
@@CapstoneTider what do you mean by “elementary”? No one cares how fast you can learn it. Difficulty isn’t what makes music good. If you think so, I’m assuming you probably don’t play music
Its Jim and Ray singing on this version. Listen to it with headphones and its clear as day that there are two people singing the whole time.
Mrclgreen it’s not. They dubbed his voice. Morrison sang it twice to get more depth.
@@snuijt8815 I agree

I disagree; I hear Jim's voice double-tracked.
Great song , thanks!
Wow. Night and day difference from the version on the album and thank God, they waited, and did it later on the album!
Great bluesy sound

that endless and irksome harmonica! uugh! so glad that guy quit.
That damn harmonica nearly ruins this demo. Even Toots Tillman would disprove.
+HamerSlammerSeries The harmonica is the best part of this version

Actually I find the harmonica to be quite bohemian. It gives it somewhat of a mid 60's Venice Beach feeling.
