@ndrednecks - I looked at that stuff for sure - It's really great by the looks of it - But to be honest, I was too impatient to wait for the shipping, so paying the extra 3 bucks for this was ultimately more worth it to me =) Thanks For The Comment Though! I appreciate your input!
+TheLukey21 He may have knocked with different force but not that much different, if you watch the video with no sound you'll see that the hand movements weren't much different, the sound contributes a lot to the perception of impact, so, if there's less sound for the same exact impact then the impact will be perceived as a smaller one, an inequivocal way of doing this test would be to put one sheet of metal with the stuff and one without and hitting very hard with a hammer to the point it severely deforms of punctures so the physical damage could be compared in order to determine the true imapct without the influence of the added/subtracted noise.
@@anonimoanonimo4544 Clearly his intention was to overemphasize this stuff's effectiveness the first knock/tickle. The reason these roofing products are not an effective or efficient alternative are many. Most roofing products are made from asphalt or a combination of asphalt, bitumen, petroleum distillates, and/or low grade rubber. These in most any combination equate to a low grade adhesive. Because of this, these products are intended for use on low sloping roofs, typically not exceeding 30°, as their their adhesive is the limiting factor.
-Peel N Seal and similar products use a rubberized asphalt as a filler and a mild adhesive. The problem is that this material softens with heat. Also, its water/air proof structure traps small air bubbles underneath the mat when being applied. These pockets of air expand when heated, further pushing the mat away from the surface. Then the softened mat stretches and pulls away from the surface.
@HemiRacer77 - Hmmm I see what you mean. I just rewatched the video @ 0:15 - At first glance it does appear to be a can of something - But it's actually a 25ft roll of mat. It's just wrapped up real tight =)
dude this was the best shit i bought this summer i drove to Rodchester MN from the Wisconsin to pick up this stuff its totally worth it you sir are a true car audio mastermind
Its funny that you put this up. I went to a carshow in 2007 and a guy was telling me to use the same thing. He had four 15's in a honda civic and it sounded like the car was full of cement when you hit it. I never got around to trying it out. I also heard that getting the rubber that you put on a roof works. You just have to buy the adhesive.
Also, come winter, the rubberized asphalt dries and hardens, causing cracking as well as the adhesive drying out. So it will never stick back down. Also, you need 2-3 layers to equal the same sound deadening rating of a thick, butyl based mat such as Second Skin Dampifier Pro, so price must be taken into account for multi layers. Its good to let your viewers know of cheap alternatives, but let them know why its cheap, and what they can expect from it.
You sir, have just fixed my biggest problem in life. Does this stuff keep out water as well? Thanks a bunch for this video man! Your a real life saver.
I've been waiting all week for a new video:) this one is super helpful!! I was about to buy a bunch of dynamat until I saw this. This is definately good enough for my application! You're a hero exo.
Bro you rock, love the enthusiasm! Your passion for this makes your videos so much fun to watch. Dynamat seems overpriced, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for taking the time for us , keep up the good knowledge friend.
I'm really glad you did this Exo, I've seen this stuff around the internet before but ive always been skeptical. But it looks great on your install and that quarter demo was the selling point for me! I think I'm going to do my cargo area, doors, hatch, and pillars with it. I'll post a video and let you know how it goes!
This stuff IS great! Thanks for showing this product to me! The only issue I have with this video is when you were knocking on the covered and uncovered floor showing the difference in sound. You were knocking much harder on the uncovered floor, then lightly on the covered section. Either way, it rocks, definitely made an improvement with the bass.
Just a few things about deadening. The purpose of all deadeners is to lower the resonant frequency of the sheet metal so it it will flex at a frequency outside the range of human hearing. (Below 20hz). The deadener accomplishes this by adding weight to the sheet metal. However, in EXO's case, a cheaper and simpler solution would be to glue some weights to the floor of the car. This will do a better job at stopping rattle because it allows you to add more weight to the panel.
i did the floor of my saturn in this stuff, and it does work! Probably a 20-30% reduction in road noise, just from doing the floor! I recommend if u want a huge improvement though, go for a couple of layers.
Soundproofing is fantastic! I always do it to my vehicles all the time. I don't expect similar levels of sound deadening as of a Rolls Royce standard but hey it works :D! Nice martial arts manouvers at the end.
wow thats awesome, ive got some mean trunk rattle that needs to stop. definately gonna go buy some tomorrow or saturday. good shit keep up the vids, and i wish i could flip like that haha. cant wait to see the wall-install progress videos man!
99 Cadillac sls....3 1/2 layers of peel and seal on my trunk lid and has stopped the majority of my rattling but most of all it has improved my bass response and its overall efficiency.
Damn that shits awesome Exo and dude you should become a Ninja with all those moves you've got at the end of the video. Wish I could find a decent hardware store here in New Zealand that has stuff like that so I could deaden my car.
ty EXO. you are putting up tutorials for everything i need. you are great!! can i request a tutorial though, how to know if you need a better alternator for your system or not
@afroman0794 - depends on what you plan on doing with it - You really only need to deaded certain areas - But if your doing the whole thing, be prepared to buy over 100sq feet
just got done with my peel and seal install on my rear seating area and where my speakers go and it was a pain in the ass but it was worth it in the end
@jcashpaidinfull - I bought a few rolls, but ended up only needing one :D The other stuff I bought in the video (that you see come falling out of the cart) is actually material for another project ;-) I put in a little "Are You Smart" annotation with a smiley face to see if people could guess it :D - Hope that helped. You won't need to buy anything else.
@xxsnowball10xx - I never said it was mang. I'm merely showing how well a product can perform regardless if a third-party company paid to get their logo printed on a almost identical oem material :D
hells yea , i use this stuff its great ! you can buy it online real cheap too. 12" x 33 1/2 feet long , 3 rolls for $113.00 . cant wait to see the build progress EXO ! im pullin for ya , & soundstream bil too :)
Sweet. Going to have to try that peel and seal. Sold my AQ HDC3 10"s and now im rocking the new Sundown SA-8s. Things slam for 8s. Need to deaden my doors and cab back.
@EXOcontralto I would say it is a great alternative and comparable to other low thickness, thin foiled, rubberized asphalt type deadeners such as fat mat. But in my mind, its a Fiat Compared to the Bugatti Veyron of SS Damp Pro and Dynamat Xtreme. I am just worried some people may see this and set there expectations too high. I am commenting to let them know what to look out for if they decide to go this route.
I used roofing aluminum "peal and stick" for my civic, and it worked great! only rattle now is my change cup, don't listen to haters, "peal and stick" is the same, just no fancy name making it 3 times the price.
RUclips is fishy sometimes, Ed ~ I've used many brands myself, several in fact, I listed in the video. I can see where you're coming from though - Don't get me wrong...If I could afford dynamat, or second skin, or even to sacrifice my vehicle to concrete, I would. But all things considered, this is still a great alternative.
Exo! Seriously thank you!! Your awesome! You help me cut costs of things so much!! Seriously thank you so much for your videos! Oh and great flips at the end!
@avn909avn - Careful though, this stuff isn't made for this - I only used in on the floors because of the fact that it's not strong material, and doesn't add much reinforcement like other deadeners.

It helps if use a heat gun when installing. Not everyones trunk is flat and easy to work around so I found that heating The area you want to apply peel and seal to will help it stick better and heating it while smoothing it out helps too. It does stink for about a month but it will dissapate after time. All in all peel and seal is a great alternative to overpriced dyna mat.
@trevorb9 - It really doesn't smell though - But I see what you're saying - if it did, I installed this on the floor of my vehicle only to ensure a sealed environment for the exterior frame of my wall to rest upon - No smells will be escaping that beast for sure =)
@Prideusuck29505 - There was no glue involved in this install - You just roll it out firmly & it sticks like a champ. I even tried removing it once applied.... Even UNDER water!! LOL - needless to say, the mat won ;-)
I'll definitely be putting some on the roof - this was just a quick video introducing the project and letting you guys know what's going on right now =)
thanks for the tip man! ive been looking for a cheap alternative for dynamat. I went and picked up a few rolls today and will be installing it soon, ill let you know how it worked out for me.
People looking for a cheaper alternative to proper sound deadening seem to flock towards the roofing department at their home improvement stores. Products that are typically found and used are Peel & Seal and other similarly produced roofing membranes. Often these look and feel similar, if not the same, as actual vibration control products so it becomes an obvious choice.
It's actually not bad, but I hear you - I'd much rather go with Second Skin ANY DAY! - You have to remember, this was a while ago, and I've come a long way since then.
Exo, I could be wrong BUT I was under the impression that that type of sound deadener had asphalt in it that will stink up your car very badly because it isn't specifically intended to be used for automotive use, so its smell isn't really a factor. Knocked hard on the first panel and tickled the second
Indeed. They sound the same to me.

Frost King peel and seal works great also. It really adheres nicely. Since its made for duct work there is no smell either .

it really helps not having a car with a trunk too hatchbacks and suvs dont rattle nearly as bad

nice! i just got some for 15.97 here and got the first layer on. thanks soo much man!
dude! awesome flips at the end!

cool. I was thinking about going with second skin. but based on what ive seen price wise, I think i'll try this first. Pretty cool find.

nice flips 0.0
